IMO some of the praise heaped on the team last week was OTT, a good five minutes against a much weakened Villa with a flattering score line, in the same vein some of the criticism of yesterday is well OTT too.
I thought it was by far our best performance of the season and the result didn't do us justice, if we play with the same passion effort and commitment the rest of the season we won't need to play a CL qualifier next season as well make top 3 for sure.
Anyone who had before yesterday or still has belief in a title challange for this season please explain why? On what grounds is this based?
Our team, not club! But current team is very capable of top 3 only as chelsea and city are this season too strong for all others including us.
I said before a ball was kiicked
1Chavski
2 city
3 Us
And nothing good or bad has changed my opinion

Agree G62,

As I have always said,

Top 4 challengers? Yes.

Title challengers? No.

Agree0 Disagree0

We will be miles off the title winners that is easy to see. You have got to ask why are we not challengers and yet again top 4 contenders? Its not good enough any more

Very disappointed in yesterdays result, Spurs were there for the taking and once again we did not get the job done. With Arteta, s injury(not good enough anyway.)plus Flamini despite his massive heart is not good enough, has someone has already said let's try Diaby and Coquelin.I rather lose next Sunday(and lose we will)trying a different line up, then going down big time with the same old same old.Yesterdays result is just another example of AW not learning from past results(wins and loses.).Oh why oh why was Ozil out wide again, his AW so conceited and arrogant of his managerial that he thinks he can get a player who was rated one of the top midfield players in the world and get him to play out wide when it clearly doesn't suit him or his he a control freak who will not do what the whole world and his dog knows(personally I think its both).I for one did not go overboard over the Villa result taking everything into account, to be honest I don't even fancy it Weds night against Galastaray.Coming back to the Chelsea game I really fear for us, the only way we could get something out that game his to get rid of Wenger and bring someone in with tactical knowledge and set the team up to get something out of the game, Ronald Koeman and Soton are a great example inwhat you can do with the right tactics, but that ain't going to happen. What will happen is this, leading up to the game Mourinho will wipe the floor with Wenger verbally, then on Sunday his team will finish the job.If anybody thinks I paint a gloomy picture sorry folks but this is our I see it.I said in a earlier post that we have quite a good squad(2 players short maybe)but we are being let down in the managerial department.Take care people.

Unfortunately, agree with the majority of that post.

so you would rather carry on with arteta and flamini, if you wish to carry on with the same old atleast justify it, with reasons why? if you can think of something better than coq/diaby until January I would be happy to read it.

I totally agree with you heybridge, mourinho the arrogant so and so knows he can rile wenger the wrong way and will use every trick in the book up until the match.
lets try something different in defensive midfield, give us some bite otherwise chelski will destroy us on the break. anything is better than flamini and arteta, no disrespect but they are not arsenal class.
if we can stem their midfield and attack, we got a chance, its going to take players who are willing to run, chase and fight for every ball for 90 minutes, we don't need passengers on sunday. if ozil plays he must be given a free role in the middle.

I would ditch the 4-1-4-1 system altogether.

To play that you need a monster CDM. We don't have a Monster CDM so, as I've said many times, why play a system that requires a player we don't have.

4-3-3

Wilshere, Ramsay double pivot behind Ozil. Ox and Sanchez on the wings Welbeck center.

Obviously Ramsay is out for Chelsea. So Flamini will play out of necessity against them.

No point in starting Diaby as he will have to be subbed at 60mins. He's also not a proper CDM as he prefers to go forward. This weekend is the first ever mention from either himself or Wenger of him becoming a CDM.

Coqulein (in spite of what he might think himself) is best at RB which is where he played at Southampton. He looked lost anytime I saw him play through the center.

Ramsay has not been playing well and if he doesn't revert to basics should be dropped. But the current system doesn't suit him. He's best as a workhorse covering ground and making a nuisance of himself and running from deep. Not as a faux-No. 10. Removing Arteta/Flamini from the equation and instituting the double pivot would see him drop further back and make the most our of his natural talents.

Same old, same old.

Lots of possession, dominated first half hour, huffed and puffed, created chances, missed them, other team has one or two chances on the counter and puts one of them away, and then we spend the rest of the match chasing the game.

I think I will save the above post and than just cut and paste it for after our next home game.

Disappointed.

Hi all

yesterday was an unbelievable draw but we should have walked away with all 3 points considering the amount of possession we had.
our soft underbelly was for all to see yesterday and it will keep on appearing until we rectify our problem - THE DEFENSIVE MIDFIELD POSITION.
arteta is not good enough period- flamini is not good enough period. both unfortunately are on their last legs as footballers and are causing many gooners sleepless nights knowing that the defence will be left exposed and the opposition will run riot. if a team like spurs can exploit our weakness which they did on numerous occasions when they broke through on a counter - both flamini and arteta seemed as though they were jogging on the spot - just think what better attacking teams will do. if we do that against chelski we will be obliterated with the quality they have upfront.
I am writing this now and still know deep down wenger will pick flamini on sunday and in the champions league. all this BS about their experience in big matches is nonsense they haven't done nothing to make the position their own.

me personally I would drop both and put in diaby and coquelin atleast until January. diaby will give us power and coquelin will give us speed, he was like a terrier against Southampton and showed hunger and desire which our defensive mid lacks. he has a point to prove and even if its till January he will put in a shift. if diaby does get injured jack can come in alongside coquelin. I know it will mean upsetting the jack - ramsey axis but with ramsey injured and arteta aswell we need to tighten our defensive side to stop teams running riot on us. we can't afford to go a goal down and then start chasing a game leaving our defence exposed.
why wenger played ozil on the left again after probably his best game against villa beggars belief! wengers stubbornness to do exactly the opposite of what the fans can see is detrimental to the club, if you have a winning formula stick to it, its like the 4141 - WHY? I would go 4231

szecs
chambers merti kosci gibbs
coquelin diaby
ox ozil sanchez
welbeck

this formation is imo more solid. ox sanchez and welbeck are all happy running back and closing down defenders but can also attack with pace - coquelin with his terrier like play can break down play and diaby can add power and height plus they can support the defence - ozil can have a free role with no defensive duties. with jack santi and rosicky and ramsey when fit rotating it looks a much stronger team, with theo coming back soon it will only get stronger.
I know this is all hypothetical but atleast it will be something better than what we have now. we are not far off from being the finished article, but our soft underbelly and wengers stubbornness and unwillingness to make quicker substitutions to change the flow of the game will be the undoing of the team everytime.

over and out

You were going good untill you mentioned Coq/Diaby

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm confused. Coquelin? Speed?

There's a very good reason Coquelin hasn't played for us for quite some time. He's not good enough. He's on the bench for 1 reason. We have no other defensive cover.

are you seriously telling me coquelin is slower than flamini or arteta. come on man! he is a better option atm up until January.

Its a shame about debuchy and jenks (different reasons obviously) because if we had one or both we could play 3 5 2 Calum Mert Kos in the absence of a DM worth talking about

Agree0 Disagree0

Hulk.

Speed apart he's in my opinion like I said defensive cover on the bench. He's not very good. It's quite something wanting a player who hasn't played for us in a long time who couldn't hold down a place in a poor french team while out on loan. The only reason he's still an arsenal player is because we didn't sign enough defenders. It's desperate times when we want poor players to start.

Banter pls. Ed. Thanks.

I am pretty sure Arsenal will lose against Chelsea. fingers crossed against Galatasaray oh well :(

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are losing to chelsea for sure but by how many I don't know

Agree0 Disagree0

We will lose on Saturday of that I'm sure too derby, its just by how many that's to be decided.
The good news is Liverpool utd spurs and Everton will all leave the boot sale ground empty handed too, so in the 3/4 place race it won't be decisive

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed gunner you are correct. i'd take a one nill loss now. Would pain me to see a big defeat again where the games over first half. i'm scared mate

Not sure how I feel about yesterdays performance. Obviously a draw is dissapointing but I think we did play well. On the day Kaboul and Vertonghen played very well, Lloris also had a blinder.

We created plenty of chances and dominated possession. In the end an error from Flamini cost us. I thought Ozil played well and was trying to create chances but was let down by lack of movement infront of him. Cazorla looked great for first 10 min then faded away. Sanchez, Wilshere and Ox also looked good in short bursts. Welbeck was average imo.

Think Ramsey injury good be a good thing as it allows us to play Ozil in his preffered CAM role and the Ox/Cazorla get gametime as they've been playing better recently.

Chelsea will be tough, that's all i'm going to say.

My thoughts on yesterdays game;
Probably our best performance in terms of dominance this season. Great football, great atmosphere and great battling by the players, even ozil got stuck in at times.
leaving sanchez and pushing ozil back out wide again was puzzling and probably cost us a win, therefore I believe the injury to ramsey, although a big loss, may become a blessing in disguise. He was capable of performing quality moments still, but was just looking like he was trying to force the issue at times.
this could mean ozil bcomes a regular at CAM, and hopefully sanchez and ox on the wings.
back to the game; we should have won, sanchez should of started or atleast come on earlier, chambers and ox combo looks quality, the more I see chambers play the more I feel we have got ourselves a world class defender of the near future.
our performances are improving, the players are gelling and as long as we don't get any further injuries in defence, things are looking to be improving. Just one big hurdle next week, and if we come out of the tie with a positive result, then I can only see things improving further.
Like I said before, let's judge after 15 games, it will test our patience but I have faith it will come with great reward.
Take Care gooners,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Improving? If we are improving then i'm watching the wrong team I think. We learn nothing. Same mistakes

Agree0 Disagree0

With all due respect nobody gets15 games in the premier league. Wenger shouldn't need 15 games and the league could be well and truly
over by then. Why should we need 15 games, wenger is supposed to be experienced and knowledgeable. The bloke is either capable or not and at the moment not. A good result at chelsea would change a few opinions and for me tell us everything if we dont.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are out of the title race already. miles off

Well, after all the dust has settled on yesterday's game, I think some people have mentioned the same problems have arisen again.

For me, the left wing position isn't currently being filled by the right player. I keep saying it but a Robert Pires of old. Pushing Ozil, Wilshere or Cazorla out there becomes ineffectual. Personally in the current squad I would use The Ox and his pace. We HAVE to play Ozil through the middle and Sanchez on the right for now whilst Walcott is injured.

Ramsey hasn't been playing well of late and the injury might be a blessing in the fact that he can recover and come back ready to go again. Arteta and Flamini have not been good as DM but then again, we all said that and hoped Wenger would upgrade our danger mouse but he didn't.

Galatasaray aside, Chelsea is a massive game and I would snap your hand off now for a draw and us remaining unbeaten. However I fear Fabregas and Costa doing a job on us. Dare I say it, Chelsea have started the season like we did in 03/04 and look strong.

If chelsea win and go 9 points clear of us then it will be a huge bodyblow!

This year is going to be a bit different, we will have fair results against the small clubs (like today) and better results against the big clubs.

Also, this is really setting up nice for Diaby he has a good chance to shine. I am thinking he has one of those breakout Van Persie/ Nasri years then off to Spain for 30 million ;-))
