Hi Ed, i am curious to know why football ownership in the premier league is not like la liga and bundesliga.

i know in bundesliga there is the 51% rule but don't think it is the same in spain but still two of the biggest teams in spain are owned by fans and they have elections almost every few years.

I assume there are no laws preventing fan groups from owning clubs, so why shouldn't fans form associations, charge membership fee and then buy the clubs they supposedly love instead of moaning about owners all the time?

{Ed002's Note - They could not raise the money to buy nor sustain the business.}

Which ones failed with take over and which ones failed to sutain? And how come the bundesliga teams can sustain? schalke alone has 144k members if i am not wrong. Then why can't clubs as big as united and arsenal with their worldwide support, have a bigger membership association that can take over and susutain the club with yearly membership fee payment?

{Ed002's Note - Sorry, you don’t understand. There were no takeovers. You need to find something else to think about as you don’t understand about this.}

Exeter City are fan owned, by the supporters Trust, bought the club for £20000, all they had in 2003 after relegation to the conference and taking on a debt of £4.5 million and the owners being done for corruption and they also struggle to produce the money to sustain the club, even in league 2.it would be nigh on impossible for Utd, arsenal or whoever supporters to come up with probably several billion or so to take over. In Germany the 51% rule ment the fans never lost control, but trying to raise the capital to buy back in once its lost would be impossible to coordinate.

Thanks Ed for the replies.

Eden i understand your point. The value of clubs has sky rocketed and that alone makes it impossible for fans to buy back clubs. Think The UK government should have done more to help with laws governing ownership.

{Ed002's Note - It has nothing to do with the Government.}

G62 you were saying the other day that you think dick might be trying to play the long game of installing a system over the quick fix of just trying to get points, I heard mourinhos presser again and was struck that it was similar he said something a long the lines of we were brilliant in the first half, pressing, attacking. What do you want attacking football or results? And left me thinking if he acknowledges the pressing and attacking was brilliant whys it taken him 2 years to try, if he had tried to instil it before, his players might be used to it and.

Bugger posted that before I'd finished! . His players might be used to it and be proficient at it by now, but he's been going for results and in the long run it's not worked out. so credit to dick if he is sticking to his guns at the expense of immedate results, just fingers crossed results also align with the change so the fans don't turn before he'd had a chance to fully implement it, but as can be seen on here some fans can write him off after only a couple games.

Hi Eden mate, I think Dick isn't afraid to back himself and his own ideas as we are not a sacking club and he will get an absolute minimum of 2 seasons even if we finished 10th this time round.
Jose actively chased the United job and I think he is desperate to justify what a good choice he was but he hadn't anticipated Pep making City quite such formidable competition plus the rise of Liverpool under Klopp, finishing 3rd playing the premier leagues poorest football would be hard for United fans and board to accept while finishing 4th playing more of the type of football United fans have been brought up on would most probably by him more time.
In my opinion if he can't win the premier league or the champions league he absolutely has to entertain.

We're not a sacking club because we haven't sacked someone for 20 odd years, this is new territory and trigger fingers could get itcy, Utd weren't a sacking club. do you not think if we finished 10th or even 6th and a large portion of fans became disillusioned keeping him might become untenable? I would hope if the long term vision is good, then the board would stick with it, but if the fans start to turn it can be hard to ignore. I've seen Ed Ed002 say that Utd had a clear long term vision with LVG that would of been coming to fruition now, but the fans turned and they bottled it, scrapped everything and got in a manager who they didn't really want and ment starting all over.

Personally I think the board have proved how broad their shoulders are with Arsene mate, few clubs would have resisted the pressure for change for so long as ours did.

I think it would take threat of relegation to make the club panic in the first 2 seasons while 10th would be considered a disappointing but not totally unacceptable first season and time would be given.

Oh and as for the fans mate well some will be really upset if we don't make top 4 this season and see that as not good enough even for season one and for a few 1st and the Europa league wouldn't be good enough simply because Dick replaced Arsene but I think majority accept Dick inherited a squad well below the standard of other top clubs and it's going to take time and patience for us to bridge that gap especially without the benefit of billions.
I doubt very much we will finish as low as 10th but equally I can't really see us troubling the top 4 either this season but next season I would expect us to be 4th place chasing at least.
