Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

29 Dec 2012 23:14:05
We have sold better players than Theo in recent years, however at 23years of age if we do let him go, then the club really will be making the ultimate statement that finances are of more importance to them than football.
Todays performance may just be another reason for AW not to dip into the transfer window in any major way, that would be a huge dissapointment in any development.
Great performance today and i still maintain Giroud has a lot to offer us, gervinho must be replaced.
Ike.

I`ve been told that Theo Walcoot will be soon wearing the Red and Black of Man Utd, the same source who told me RVP was going to Man U, I hope that their wrong, IF he does then Wenger time is definetly up, and who ever deals with contracts should be sacked, also

The choice to sign lies with Theo.
He looked pretty emotional at the end of the game with the fans chanting his name.
He needs to decide if he wants to build on that and become an Arsenal legend or take the money and fade into insignificance.
Thierry back at the Emirates at this time leads me to believe he will sign.

Actually Im a Gooner and Have been for 30 Yrs, Believe me, Don`t Believe me, I wont lose sleep on it. Thats what i`ve been told and im passing it on, Personally i hope he stays but the longer it goes on, the longer i can see him going, I don`t believe that Wenger or the money grabbing board will allow Theo to walk away for Free, its never going to happen, IF Theo still hasnt signed by the Final two weeks of the transfer window, he will be sold, End of, And if you believe Wenger that he will not sell him then you have obviuosly not learned your lesson on Nasri, on cLichy, on etc, etc.

Does anyone actually believe that Arsenal are NOT trying to sign Theo and that AW is making some kind of stand against offering big wages? Keep hearing that we need to get rid of Stan and bring in Usmanov... why- do you think Usmanov bought shares in Arsenal cos he wanted to chuck a billion down the tubes? get real Arsenal will be a properly run club when all the billionaire dilettantes hve got fed up and pi**ed off back home - leaving some clubs in a shambles

Greetings and salutations my fellow Gooners,

A few quick observations from today's match:

1. Theo creates opportunities! I do believe he has tremendous potential and does indeed have room for growth, lets gets this deal done and have him signed!

2. If TW14 decides to leave his selling price just went up in value. I am not in favour of this option but the decision rests not only with the club but the player too! If Theo chooses to depart the emirates then I say we get as much as we can, a performance like today wont hurt his value.

3. Demba Ba is a good striker and a viable option if Theo does decide to leave. He may not be "our" first choice but at 7.5m and premiership experience he represents good value.

4. Our back four needs to stop conceding such opportunities. I believe we need to light a fire under our players. This is where Steve Bould needs to make it emphatically clear that underperformance is not acceptable, 2 of the 3 goals were clearly avoidable with more conscientious defending.

5. Arterta for me has been our unsung hero this season. He plays game in game out, but I do believe we need reinforcement at the DM position. I love Diaby's talent, I love Coquelin's potential but I believe this is a position we can upgrade and if necessary as some have pointed out promote Kos to this position.

All in all I liked our will today. Walcott can be a difference maker. He is far from the finished product but he is OUR product and I believe it sends the right message that we are done selling our best players if he was to re-sign (I hope he understands this too).

Gunners4Life, IN AW we trust!

Believable16 Unbelievable2

Doesn't make a difference to his value rising cos he can sign a pre contract with another club in the new year and go for free in the summer

Agree13 Disagree1

Im sure as a club we understand this option and are prepared to sell if a contract cannot be agreed to. I would highly doubt we as a club would allow this scenario to occur. I sincerely hope this will not occur. Theo I believe can be part of the solution and as such I would prefer his services to be retained, hopefully he will feel the same too!

What a game really enjoyed it, must admit at 4-3 I thought it would end at 4-4 but I was proved wrong. Defensively we were pretty poor, and I was pleased to see Wenger point that out in his interview rather than just discussing our cutting edge in attack. Thought Podolski put in a really good shift and played some great balls, Giroud came on and was really impressive and Theo's finishing was superb, really good game for him that cross too Giroud wow. Don't want to detract from a good performance but I do still think that his decision making can sometime be a little poor as highlighted when we broke away and he shot rather than pass, but I hope that will improve over time he's only 23 after all. Really hope we can get his contract sorted with each performance he is only strengthening his case for the money he wants. Arteta also put in a great shift, just goes out and does what is asked of him. Got to say I was really impressed with Demba Ba as well, I know Wenger said he wont sign him but I think he would add to the team provided and this is the key we don't have to spend huge money on fees that make his low release clause redundant otherwise I say wait till the summer and try and rival United for Lewandowski. If we sold Chamakh and Bendnter, I think Giroud Ba and Walcott would be a decent strike force and we would have good cover should one or more be injured. Also desperately want us to sign a defensive mid, Arteta been great in that deeper role but we need some steel in the midfield, would also mean that days like today where Cazorla seemed tired we could rest him with Wilshere and Arteta moving up the pitch and a defensive mid behind them. Did see in the paper today that we could get m'vila for a cut price and in one in fact that we had been offered him, could be an option, although I know there are others people prefer. Also seen a few rumours linking us with Arda Turan, I know the name and have seen him play a few times through out his career wondered from others who may have seen him more how good he is? Hope we can keep this run going.
Will

Believable10 Unbelievable0

It's not really his decision making i think, it's more to do with being greedy. He has something to prove so it's natural to be a little bit greedy but this has go on for a little while. He has to pass when it is right.

No question, great game by Theo today...but...let's see him repeat that kind of performance game in and game out...or at least on a more regular basis...then you've got yourself a case. Until then, it was just one great game. For every one of those, I can cite 10 times that number where he was crap so, what's your point?

Put it this way.

If the board, Wenger or whoever is responsible allow Walcott to leave after that performance, along with his recent showings, The Emirates signing "sign him up" we as a fan-base need to do something about it... Lets just hope it doesn't come to that.

It looks like it has just 'clicked' for him now. He's full of confidence whereas he used to look timid/clueless on the wing. I'll admit I openly criticised him for his decision making, poor crossing and propensity to go missing in games.

Not anymore. Looks hungry, at home in the middle and can cross. Yes his decision making is still so-so but that'll improve in time. It's such a shame he has won me over so late... I think our penny pinching club will see £££ signs and sell to the highest bidder in January. Hope I'm wrong!

Defence still needs more protection though. Wayama or the like.

Lets not forget how many of their top players Newcastle had missing, Ben Arfa, Cabaye to name a few would make a massive difference. Yet another win with a huge dose of luck. When we play the big boys then thats the yardstick to go on. I aint impressed at all by taking the lead 3 times and Newcastle equalising 3 times against a weakened team.

Wilshere was class, arteta was neat, cazorla was quality but was roughed up, was fouled soo many times yet ref gave no free kick.
Walcott was ok first but exploded in 2nd half. 3rd goal that even Henry would be proud of.
Podolski=beast.. Strong, efficient, smart, lethal what else you want
Ox has soo much energy and always looks to make things happen. Great goal too.
Also great cameo from Giroud cud of had a hatrik.

Agree totally with above comments, spot on. I don't know who Gibbs was trying to sell a dummy to other than himself on their second goal. quite commical knowing that we won in the end.

Would just like to know what the hell game plan did we have in the first half. In fact it was quite weird all over. I've seen more excitement, movement and noise at my local park on a sunday afternoon than there was at the Emirates last night. It seems the players and the fans are feeding off of each others nervousness. We need to shake it off because boy, when we do get the bit between our teeth we can be awesome.

Well pleased for Walcott. I've been one that has slated him alot for not getting into games more, but last night he rammed that thought down my throat in the best way possible. Again once he and Arsenal got going Brilliant!

Even more pleased for Giroud. He will get better and better. Been really pissed off with the people slating him before he's even settled.

Overall more of the same second half performance the whole game.......minus the goals conceded. And let's breathe some life into the Emirates, that place could really rock.

Accepted 7 times over, there is no excuse, wage cap or other not to sign him, even if their concern really is only money they could pay him £150k a week on a five yr contract then simply sell him in the summer for really big money.

I don't want him sold, just saying there is not one single legit reason not to sign him whether he is even the real deal yet or not. What truthfully are they waiting for ffs.

He is doing ok, just ok, consistency is problem for him at the moment... In wilshere's case, 2 seasons ago he also had a lot of average games, some bad games as well but he had fabregas playing next to him, and that guy made his average and bad games look less average and bad!! I have always thought Defoe is the closest there has been to Wrighty. But this aint gonna happen.

What about Charlie Austin at Burnley. Similarities to Wrighty, started football life late, loves to score, has been prolific this season, puts himself about and would be cheap.

When i say 1-0, i don't mean to imply playing to score first and resting back to defend strong. i'd just like a performance, or should i say a string of performances, where we walk away with maximum points and clean sheets to boot. i think the midfield lacks serious confidence when moving forward.

Pod and Ox stay too close to the middle and Cazorla is basically neutralised by the seventeen men put to mark him. a good run of games where Shezza isn't picking balls outta his net will do the team good, more so in attack. it's not that i don't want thumping victories, i'd just prefer a more sober but a more confident performance from the team.

Anyone else feel bad for Arteta that he hasn't played a single match for Spain yet?

I know Spain's midfield is just far too good at the moment, but if they are playing against some team that can barely tie their laces, they should give him a run, just once at least.

Class player, he really deserves a Spain XI call up at least once in his career.

P.S. could we make an online petition for it? group maybe? haha

Spain first choice midfield: Busquets, Xabi Alonso, David Silva, Xavi, Iniesta

Spain Second choice midfield: Javi Martinez, Fabregas, Jesus Navas, Mata, Carzorla

I feel so sorry for him. He would walk into most countrys teams. Surely if say 3 of them were injured for next world cup he would get a call up? Even then Isco, Jose Callejon, Munain and Thiago Alacantra will be on the scene. It may never happen for him.

Giving him a cap against Saudi Arabia or someone would just be patronising wouldn't it ?

Arteta can do the same job as most as Xabi Alonso, no doubt in my mind

Arteta is Basque. Is anyone even sure if he WANTS to play for spain?

Hi all

Just this came to mind ? want to know what are your views on the following ?

can't we use giroud as in a similar way , as what David Moyes has done with Fellaini. From what i saw Giroud has the identical physical as well as technical aspects. I have seen in recent matches Giroud does track back and do defensive duties as well successfully. Also his tackling is quite sound, which i think he has done quite successfully in most of the matches he has played. Upfront he will always be a threat and can hold the ball and win headers , which will help Theo. Also he has a good passing ability and awareness and vision to assist in creating goals. As he has created 3-4 assist in recent matches. 2 assist i remember , in the same match he assisted podoski with a fine measured touch cum pass. the weight of the pass along with vision and awareness shows he has the ability . What do you think ? is it possible ? because i feel he can score goals but he is not center forward who can provide Arsenal 25-30 goals every season, which rvp , drogba, Henry, sergio aguero etc... are capable of. he was top score in ligue 1 with 21 goals. plz reply. Just a thought it is . i am checking my football strategy and management skills .

Idk about the rest of you guys but despite Giroud not being a big star like RVP, Aguero etc, I'm still eager to see him fullfil his potential as i can see him being a gun one day.

Very good shout. Definately something Wenger should at least look at in training.

I for one think Wenger is doing the right thing with Henry. Letting him train, which is to the benefit of our younger players... Theo, Ox, etc.

But not pushing him into the premier league - as it make tarnish his amazing reputation. If we took off our rosé tinted glasses last year, Henry was the the player who left as "the king".

reckon we are going to sign fellaini for 25m. about 2 minutes after David moyes comes out and says he won't sell anyone.

Shows quite how reliable is

I think Wenger should go back to 4-4-2 like the old days. Giroud and Theo up front could be a good option if you ask me.

Would rather see a quality pacey clever winger rather than Ox
