Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

29 Jul 2014 23:18:39
With Chambers being quit quick and versatile any one see us playing a 3 5 2 formation in big away games next season?
Gibbo and debuchy bombing down the wings!

We need a DM mate, especially away to the big boys.

If Wenger plans on playing Chambers as a DM than cool, but we have to sort out our soft underbelly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed mate a real proper DM would be ideal but in his absence I think a sweeper covering Merts pace and buying the rest of the team time to regroup when our MF gets exposed defensively might be an option against the big boys

Agree0 Disagree0

People always seem to forget that the big boys 'catch you out'

thing about that literally. for the most part the wingbacks are smart enough to know when to defend and when they have a chance to push up.

because they can get forward doesn't meant they always will. there's been as many times I've shouted at the tv for gibbo cause he's in their box, as there has been me wrongly shouting at him to get forward only for the play to turn and him be perfectly ready for the interception.

Who would be happy if we could sign Khedira or Vidal to go into the season with the squad as it is now?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Jul 2014 00:03:52
I would be as happy as that bloke, what's his name, Barry, Gary, Harry?

Oh yeah, Larry.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah me too haha. Defiantly the last piece of the puzzle

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 22:40:34
Eds, do you know if alexis will feature in the Emirates cup?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no I don't sorry.}

I would be surprised if he didn't get some sort of run out

Agree0 Disagree0

He should do having missed out on austria

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 21:38:12
Who is this Costa we seem to be after? Never heard of him is he any good? Or are we just chasing a coffee shop!?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2014 21:36:40
Who do you reckon will start then? Chambers or Debuchy?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Jenks :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Debuchy for sure. french and wenger has said he is a player for the future. then again does anyone think wenger would consider them rotating? or is this to old fashioned these days?

Hello peeps, Hello eds (love your work)

Not been able to get on for a while so not seen what's been happening on here. Question, with this stuff about Reus apparently rejecting a new contract, is there anyway on earth that we'd a) be in for him and b)have a realistic chance of getting him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he hasn't rejected it, they are still in talks, just an initial offering was turned down.}

29 Jul 2014 23:42:23
Spot on ed media love to jump on a story, with no feet to run with.
But then I'd jump on the chance to sign him.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 19:29:59
Ed's, with the doulas costa rumours I was just wondering, what sort of player he is as I don't know much about the player. Is he only really a attacking midfielder or can he play as a striker or on the wings?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't actually know to be honest. I haven't seen anything of him at Shaktar (that is if I am even right about that being his team!).

30 Jul 2014 00:05:30
Apparently, a striker.

Poor scoring record, 1 in 5.

Agree0 Disagree0

The only reason he is being linked (like he has for the last 3/4 summers) is because the does not want to return to Shaktar due to the unrest in that area. He is another Solomon Kalou.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is an attacking mid (again) and played 27 games, scoring 4 and assisting 9. He is great player, but I'm not sure that its what we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 21:23:48
Just throwing this out there.

Wilshere straight swap for Barkley, yes or no?

PS, good news Ed025, your boy signing 4 year deal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Every day of the week and 72 times on a Tuesdays, surely its a no contest yes please

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, any day and all day.

how about Giroud for Benteke?

Agree0 Disagree0

No
I would take Jack, He has us in his heart,

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 22:32:47
Nope, while there both players that still need to reach there best (wilshere mainly) I think jack has more in the bag then Barkley.
Ask again in a couple of years and any Answer anyone gives May well be different, but as I said jack for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep, straight swap

Agree0 Disagree0

Welsh if Arsene was to race Usain Bolt you'd put your money on Arsene and if jack was to have a smoking contest with a chimney you'd say he was lead ashtray

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^^^ Brilliant^^^^^^

Totally outclass Dags with that 62

Agree0 Disagree0

U could not give me Barkley and 10m for jack he's custard

Agree0 Disagree0

Wilshere for me too, barkley has only had 1 good season (so far) and wilshere has had 1 and a quarter. also wilshere for me has more effect in games, whereas barkley has moments. imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wilshere got owned by Barkley twice last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Barkley all day long, much more athletic dosent go down everytime and can run with the ball. Jack on the other hand has not lived up to the potential to many injuries and sometimes I believe his heart not in.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 21:13:23
Can anybody look at Red Rooster's Avatar without laughing?

Cracks me up every time.

But than again, I'm easily pleased.

OOH, a squirrel.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That's what its there for. If anyone loves the Ars more than Merse please show him to me!

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 20:28:28
Not that I don't like Santi but I would be happy if he left to make room for Costa - not sure there is enough room for both.

Thoughts?

If we signed Khedira and Costa plus a TV5 replacement then I am thrilled

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I never like the idea of replacing a player with another who is really no better. Continuity in my opinion is much more important, especially in a summer when we're making so many signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 21:09:39
I think he's pony.

An out and out number 9 who has a goals rate of 1 in 5.

Costa is not my cup of tea (Did you see what I did there?).

I amaze myself sometimes, really I do. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 21:12:29
Normally agree but Santi is not so different to others in midfield where Costa offers more. Happy to have both but not sure squad can handle both and want to stick with Jack.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 21:33:46
Who goes to Costa for tea?

Ed - how about a different poll: Starbucks, Nero, Costa or Prett?

Agree0 Disagree0

Santi is just abut the best two-footed payer around right now with maybe Sniejder or Pirlo. As such he can switch play from the middle of the park quickly and at will. He can also score from range when the fancy takes him. Not sure what Costa would bring but I know which I would rather have.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 20:03:57
Been floating around on the Southampton site, the general sense of opinion is, out of all the players they have sold, Chambers is the one that has pi55ed them off the most.

I think we have acquired the services of a damn fine player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think it's more that even the academy players are trying to jump ship, rather than any reflection on quality

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 19:48:08
Going through the Spurs pages, I see they aren't happy with Levy and Baldy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No change there then mate, mind you they don't enjoy being happy any way its why their tottering fans

Agree0 Disagree0

BANNERS
im doing my best to have the crowd all fired up 1st day of the season
With Levy out

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 21:05:09
I think Baldy is a very lucky man.

Once they sold Bale, he was the man who brought in all the new players, he hand picked them himself.

When it all went Wrong, AVB took the wrap and got sacked.

Lucky man Baldy.

Agree0 Disagree0

One Spud is telling me how well Levy has done financially? really, how much have they had to pay Managers over the years, how about all the money they got from Bale? wasted

Funny bunch

Hi eds? Are still active to find a DM? I've got this feeling we are going to get Kehdira on deadline day, because Real like to mess clubs around! do you think it's possible?
Regards!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - we are still in for a dm

Cheers for getting back to me

So Eds 001, 002, 007, 025 and any other Eds who want to answer who are your tips for the title in the season ahead?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - Chelsea for me

Thanks 027 as things stand I have horrible feeling you might be right, but hopefully by the 16th things will look very different :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think Citeh will retain it personally.}

Cheers Ed001, without doubt they are the two to beat and any one getting 4pts from those two has every right to fancy their own chances very highly

"Arsenal's French midfielder Abou Diaby, 28, is confident he can establish himself at the club this season after enduring 39 injury and fitness lay-offs since joining the Gunners from Auxerre in 2006. "

cool he is confident, no need for additional signings then :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I like Diaby (christ knows why, i've hardly seen him play)
But I think its time, we payed him when he plays. Its all good and well feeling fit at the start, then crocked every year, 3 weeks in,
I keep expecting him to pop up on the benifits street program.

Agree0 Disagree0

In fairness to old porcelain legs, I think he stopped taking wages after this last stint on the sidelines, said he couldn't do it.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 15:16:34
If that's Schneiderlin's attitude then he deserves to be at Spurs. If you're not willing to fight for a starting position and prove how good you are, then you're obviously not as good as you're made out to be in the first place.

Glad we're not getting him. We need a DM who's going to give 100% week in, week out. Not someone who will be happy with a starting position and become complacent.

Pogba, Khedira or Carvalho will do just fine.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So on that logic, where do you stand on Balotelli? Would he do that?

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooster are you related to merson, christ you look like him

Agree0 Disagree0

Really, when we face cold hard facts, schnederlin isn't good enough anyway. He's not even a regular in the France squad. He's not absolute top quality, which is what we should be looking for if trying to challenge on several fronts. He's not much of an upgrade on flamini or arteta. In fact, I think I'd rather have flamini playing that role than schneiderlin.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am going to go hell ya on Flamini more heart in his left boot than Schneiderlin's whole body.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 14:56:52
Looking through the photos of the Austria training camp and Chambers (though he's officially been given the Number. 21 shirt) was wearing the number 5 shirt.

That can only mean that Vermaelen hasn't joined the team there.

Interesting.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't read too much into it. Players often wear the wrong kit in training

Agree0 Disagree0

YES look at bentner he had a strikers top on

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 21:19:00

Anyone know anything about who will be club captain next year?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2014 16:47:44
I'd like it to be Ramsey, although I think Kos might get it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am positive it will be Per.

Agree0 Disagree0

1404
Im with you Ramsey wouls be a good one, though his form dipped when he was the welsh captin, that's why I think we didn't make it to the world cup

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - no WG, it was because 70% of your players are crap mate...sorry if the truth hurts.. :)

If he gets his act together and consistently performs I'd have Wilshere or if not him, Ramsey. Both could potentially be captain for the next 10 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I supose the mighty English lasted 3 more games than us.
But I fancy us as an outside bet for the euros.
500-1 I think the bookies have got that wrong.
IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im english WG, and we are very poor mate, that still makes us 10 times better than wales though, and the bookies have got it wrong...it should be 10,000,000,000 to1..fella :)

ED
Ramsey will be the new
Owain glyndwr.
Have a cheeky pound on us, you will thank me.
I better get mine on before the rush.lol

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i will buy a fire extinguisher just in case,, :)

I think Ramsay should be made vice captain. I'd imagine per will be made captain, unless tv5 stays, in which case I wouldn't be surprised if there are no changes

Agree0 Disagree0

If there was a Great Britain football team, only two Welshmen would get in the 11. That should say everything you need to know about wales.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cs
with all respect don't tell me you would pick the shower of rubbish you lot got,,
May the lord forgive him, have you been hibernating or what.
The only way we aren't better because you lot have closed the welsh hospitals,

Agree0 Disagree0

Rubbish I agree they are, but a much higher standard of rubbish than the welsh squad. The overall quality in the welsh squad is dire at best. Apart from bale and Ramsay, I'd suggest on par with Scotland, if not slightly behind.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 14:33:03
So on in training picture on the Arsenal website, Chambers is wearing a 5 shirt, I thought he was 21. Does this confirm Vermaelen's departure?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Vermaelen has not joined up with the squad yet. Don't read to much into it.

29 Jul 2014 14:24:16

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - yes

29 Jul 2014 15:34:32
And his assistant is Bruce.

Sorry, boring day lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bruce Forsyth is a lucky man as every time I have bumped into him after a match and asked him about it his reply is always 'good game, good game'. Dags you're right boring day.

As far as I'm concerned, 16m on Chambers isn't over paying at all. He may not have a heap of premiership experience, but he has experience. Young talent is always going to attract a higher fee as well, look at guys like Hazard, Jovetic and Lallana. Add to that, the fact he's English and therefore, helps our quota when 21. He seems like a bargain!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2014 12:23:36
Totally agree, he looks like a fantastic addition, we could have paid £27 million for an 18yr old who isn't even fit!

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 12:49:32
That was supposed to say Lamela, not Lallana, Can't call him "young"!

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 14:30:09
And my 2 cents as a MUFC fan - You paid the going rate for young English talent. Should be a good buy.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 15:41:07
You been peeping through my curtains again Rosie? Lol.

Have to agree with you, I think he will be a success, as will Luke Shaw.

2 decent signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 11:08:22
This window has been 90% perfect in my opinion! I can't be upset because Sanchez just makes everything great.

But if we can't get a really good CDM I think we're still just below teams like City & Chelsea. Will struggle in big games especially when away from home. Really need a big physical presence to sit infront of our back 4 & dictate the game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2014 12:25:30
I will be amazed after the City, Liverpool and Chelsea score lines if we do not pick up a quality DM otherwise we'll be in exactly the same position.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - nah jenny...jack will sort it.. ;)

I think we have a better chance of tightening the score lines if we can get Gibbs to stop bombing foreword with recklessness leaving the boys exposed at the back.

Its great that he is skilled but we have to respect the big boys in our league and pick our spots. That's why we beat Liverpool in the rematch. COYG

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed025, u being sarcastic? Jack won't sort out that problem this year. If we buy a mentor for him like khedira even thou they different types of players. Than in a few years, I c him steppin up to it.

{Ed025's Note - i was being sarcastic nam, as i just dont see him up to that job mate..

I know this belongs on the Real Madrid forum but its dead over there so, what's jese (Rodriguez) like as a player? I remember playing against him back in 2011 and he was incredible (although he was 3 years older than me)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2014 13:43:03
Decent player by all account's Saint.

Scored plenty in RM's B team and has a decent record for the 1st team.

As a side note, we lost 3-1, although yanno it was Real Madrid under 19s and I was only 15 . Drew against there under 16s though ;)

I had this 'hobby' as a child, where if I found a player I thought was amazing on Football manager, I'd follow them in real life for a bit and see the comparison.

It's something I do now as an adult as it just stuck with me!

So I've watched Jese for a while and I like him a lot, but he never returns my calls
So it's a bit akwar. you mean as a player. oh.

Jokes aside, I like Jese, he's very talented, has a good turn of pace,
Can score a few and likes a dribble.

If I remember rightly, he had a good run in the first team last season before a horrid injury put him out.

All the time we were linked with Morata,
I really hoped we'd get Jese instead.

The issue is, Jese is a striker, he wants to play in the middle and he wants to play often.
Madrid use him as a winger more often than not and even then it's only as a deputy to Bale/Ronaldo/Di Maria.

From what I gather, madridista's love him and the club want him to succeed as they've lacked a true academy talent in their ranks for years.

But due to limited game time, I really think they need to do something similar to Carvajal, where they sell him to a foreign club on the cheap with a buy back or just send him on a long loan, so he can show the club what he can do and come back
To make the strikers place his own!

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 10:12:23
First post for a long while.

Just watvhed the Calum Chambers interview on Arsenal TV and he says Wenger has talked to him about playing RB, CB and CDM now I know people have been talking about we desperately need a CDM but I think Chambers could fill this role. Now I know he won't 'Scare' anyone but what CDM does in thier first season? Judging by his performances last season Ithink he could be a very good CDM going into this season andwith a few games under his belt could do the job that Schneiderlin does.

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't see him as our starting centre mid alongside Ramsey. He will be on the bench with the ability to cover these positions and a defensive winger option - Like Monreal was often used from the bench last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 11:37:52
He's not the shortest of Lads he has pace, can make a pass and can tackle well, I don't see why he couldn't play there. Just hoping he doesn't turn into a Phil Jones

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 09:18:56
Can I just say I for one would gladly have a really boring transfer deadline day, knowing that we've signed 5 players early and they've had time to bond with the squad.

Times are changing at Arsenal. Following the £42.5m signing of Ozil last summer, Wenger has followed this up by spending about £70m on four players! Who'd have thunk it?!

I am hoping for one more wide card signing. This will be later in the window and a case of, "The right player became available with the qualities we want to add. " Etc so we signed him.

I actually think with Diaby being a new signing in Wengers eyes and Wilshere looking to earn a spot, we won't know sign a DM. Only Wenger knows where his heart and head are at.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Our Wild Card Signing = Marco Reus
(Doesnt wanna sign a contract extension according to rumours)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2014 13:11:53
Didn't realise that was a rule

Agree0 Disagree0

I though 2 was the limit?

Agree0 Disagree0

Two would be a better limit, I was just reading an article and it said everton wanted to loan some chelsea kid (cant remember his name) and if they wanted lukaku too they would have to buy him, because they couldn't have 2

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jul 2014 08:30:10
Just an opinion here, but as far as this windows gone, it's been pretty damn good!
I doubt any of us expected this come the end of the season.

I think a DM is definitely needed, but as has been said,
Wenger won't buy for the sake of it, which I do understand.
Khedira or Bender though, on top of our current signings would grant Wenger a moan free window next season, regardless of signings (unless it's Cleverley) from me!

I do think, that again, as has been widely stated, we'll sign a CB IF Vermaelen does leave.
I hope he stays, but he's a good defender and he does need some game time, so I wouldn't deny him a move, for the right fee of course.

However, I reckon that;

A: Wenger has a another big signing in his sights, he certainly seems to be getting the hang of this spending lark,
So why not!

B: Even when all our signings are done, if a player Wenger thought would improve us, the boss will go for it.
Obviously there are players we think would do it, that he won't or he'd say we have enough depth there.
And there are players who's wages would make it
Impossible, like Cavani.
But I reckon if someone like Benzema suddenly became available, Wenger would move for him, regardless.

Anyways, that's about it!
Peace!

Ed02 I have a question for u? Ed02 after the signings of Sanchez debuchy ospina chambers which position do u expect arsenal to strengthen this summer? Bcs defensive midfielder has been top priority for arsenal this summer and there is no one bought on that position? Thanx I will really appreciate your reply

{Ed002's Note - I have answered this before and have no intention in to answering questions from you which are there simply to try and trap me.}

Before anyone posts it and I don't care if he's going for 67p I never ever ever want to see Fellaini in an Arsenal shirt. EVER.

Just my opinion ;-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Same here
I didn't like him when he was a Everton player. Now with MU mark on his forehead and a horrible horrible performance last season no way in hell.

Jenjen,

I'm going to totally disagree with you.

I think there would be thousands of people who would love to see Fellaini in an Arsenal shirt.

Man Utd supporters.

Am I alone in thinking we have made this windows signings & will now concentrate on sales & loans. Wenger has stated that we won't be buying a forward, which may be a ploy. Rumours have also emerged that Wilshere will be playing in a more defensive role alongside Arteta or Flamini. The sole purchase may be a replacement for Vermaelen, if he departs. Assuming he does depart I believe it will be late in the transfer window to allow Mertesacker to return.
We have 30 players listed on the official Arsenal site & I can't recall us ever filling the 25 man squad, so I expect the following to possibly depart, some on loan:
Jenkinson, Vermaelen, Gnabry, Myaichi, Podolski, Cazorla, Djourou, Coquelin.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not too sure that Podolski or Santi will go but the rest, yes.

I also think there will be no more signings, 4 is about Arsene's limit

I think there will be 2 more signings as only 2 of the 4 can be considered starters.

Podolski nor Cazorla will leave, Myiachi I don't think has a future with us, Coquelin not sure. Gnabry and Jenks every likelihood of a loan. Reports Koeman wants them both at Southampton permanently but that's pretty poor journalism as usual.

Rodgers doesn't get Remy so the press immediately link him to J Rod at Southampton, how lazy can they get. Cox.

Arsene is likely to keep Vermaelen until close to the end of the window simple to ensure cover.

So we will in my opinion be buying more and I think spending close to another £40 million. One a starter, one a back up. ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

I still think we have more coming. More than likely towards the end of the window when Madrid and PSG have decided who they want to sell. The transfer dominoes will start to topple and I think we will be amongst the buyers.
Players like Gnabry coquelin Ryo Djurou jenkinson are likely to go and let's be honest. They won't be missed.
I think only if we do bring in 2 more ( striker and midfielder ) a fair chance Cazorla will go and maybe podolski.

hi Ed's
what position do you expect our new signing from barcelona, 15-year-old youngster and Germany youth international Georgios Spanoudakis to play and when do you think he will join the first team? and is he the long term solution for DM?

Made me laugh.

Popped over to Saints page earlier.

A Saint posted, "Who has the final say if one of our player leaves?"

Another Saint posted, " Liverpool FC".

I chuckled.

I was bored so I started looking around on other team pages. Honestly I got to spurs and looked at their banter page if you can call it banter. And one of the first things I literally saw was one of their fans saying arsenal are on the decline now and they are on the up.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Jul 2014 07:06:41
I did the same, have you ever been on city's page I think Noel Gallagher is their only fan

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs fans always say that we're on the decline and they're on the up. Which of course is why there was a 10 point gap between us last season, as opposed to the one the season before.

Any reason why Johan Djourou is still on the Arsenal website as a member of the first team (granted no squad number)? Thought he'd been sold?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No he's just been on loan.

Must be due his testimonial soon.
