Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

29 Jun 2015 22:41:58
I'm quite glad about the Vidal rumours being untrue if I'm being honest. With the way le coq helped turn our season around, I'd hate to see him benched because of the hype an new signing would bring, the guy can still develop into a world class DM and it just wouldn't be fair to do that to him with a signing like Vidal or Schneiderlin.

Personally, I'm not sure he'd be the right fit for us anyways, he's not the most disciplined of players when it comes to positioning, he likes to roam forward and even though he and Ramsey both have the engines to back track all week long, we'd still be left exposed. We're much better off with someone like Carvalho or le coq who's main concern is sitting back and protecting the back four.

Also, as much as I would love to see Theo get an extended run up front, if we have the chance to sign Lacazette we need to take it! That guy is going to be a world beater. He and Walcott can always rotate as could le coq and carvalho.

Saw an absolute belter of a quote the other day; "We are one Coquelin ACL tear away from ruining the peak years of Ozil and Alexis."

That quote is 100% true. All it takes is a Coquelin ACL tear the day after the transfer window closes and our season is done. We must sign a defensive midfielder this summer, it is imperative to our title challenge next season. You need a squad to win the title not just a starting eleven. Coquelin on how own is not enough. Screw having to revert back to Flamini and Arteta if he gets injured just so we don't upset him. Buy another and let them have a fair fight and bin Flamini and Arteta.

Agree5 Disagree0

30 Jun 2015 01:31:27
I never said we don't need another dm. Of course we do, one serious injury to Coquelin and we're back to square one. But I do think we're better off finding good quality cover for him rather than brining in someone who AW would be almost obliged to start ahead of him due to hype or an excessive price tag.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Jun 2015 08:20:52
Agree G95, Coquelin is the only one of his type we have, forget about the number of midfielders we have most are very samey , tip tap, Cocky bot needs to be wrapped in cotten wool

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jun 2015 09:24:12
In my opinion Arsene see's Arteta and Flamini as cover for Le Coq, I'm not saying I agree with it but its what I think.
Le Coq will be rested in home games against Watford and Norwich and other teams where a DM is not deemed imperative and also it will give Arsene and excuse/chance to play Arteta/Flamini and even Jack there as a way of rotation and giving game time to those who can't command a place in our best 11.
Just what I think will happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jun 2015 11:11:56
There's no point in bringing in a substandard player to cover for Coquelin when you can bring in a Schneiderlin, Vidal, etc to properly push him to keep improving to retain his place. Arsene has already said it'll be quality over quantity. So it'll be either a quality midfielder or no one and if it's the latter we can forget about the title when we have to rely on Flamini for the whole season.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jun 2015 16:17:33
Why would we have to rely on Flamini for the whole season?

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jun 2015 23:39:46
62 you are spot on, Arteta and Flamini are cover for Le Coq

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jul 2015 01:29:52
If Coquelin picks up an injury! Considering our injuries over the last few years we have to be planning on giving him some help and decent help at that. Arteta and Flamini are done.

Hello fellow gooners,

I've been an avid reader of this site for a while now and realised that being an Arsenal fan means more than just supporting a football club, it is a way of life.

So I decided it was about time I contributed something and got in amongst it.

Massive thanks to the Eds for their reliable information and insightful opinions, I will endeavour not to ask stupid, irrelevant or repetitive questions as it can't be good for your mental health...

Delighted with the Cech signing as it's a significant improvement on what we have and he brings bags of experience as well as a winning mentality. Hopefully he will be a positive influence on Shez, provided he listens and humbles himself.

As for further recruitment, it seems likely to me that Chambers will be promoted to back up DM with a CB being signed, the question is whether it will be a first choice with Per dropping down the order or a young prospect as 4th choice. I'd be surprised at a midfield signing as it could harm the balance we found in the second half of last season, something Wenger will be wary of.

A striker would be a bonus but not a necessity, I suppose it all depends on the enigma that is Theo.

That's all for now, I look forward to plenty of in depth tactical discussion and light hearted banter in the future...

Welcome LooseCannon.

Do you not think that if Per does get relegated to the bench, Gabriel will be the one to replace him, as opposed to buying a first choice CB this summer?

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jun 2015 17:00:16
Ideally Gabriel will find consistency and become a stalwart at the back, he reminds me very much of Kos when he arrived, rash in the challenge and prone to errors. These are areas of his game that need to be ironed out and he will get found out in the meantime which could prove costly.
It's a very tricky call to make with the squad so delicately poised.
I just pray that we manage to keep Kos out of Madrid's grubby mitts as we are potentially on the cusp of something very special and Koscielny is vitally important to our challenge for success as things stand

Banter please ed's

I know I've bought this up before about chelski but have you seen the abuse Petr Cech has got from Chelsea fans? Some of them saying they wished he died when Stephen hunt collided with him, there were others but I can't bring myself to tell you them. It is absolutely disgraceful that fans could treat a play that has given so much to their club, when TH14 left for barca that same year we played them at the Emirates, he got a standing ovation because we respected what he did for us and the legacy he left behind. This just proves even more how disgraceful those chelski fans are, I think they should start deducting points every time a clubs fans say such disgraceful things, it would soon stop then. I know I'm ranting on but things like this really get to me

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - have you not read the things Arsenal fans put about Robin van Persie or Samir Nasri? Or you could say the same about a thousand other players moving clubs and the fans of the club left behind. You are being sanctimonious when your own fans are no different. All fans have idiots in their group - to single out Chelsea because of their group of imbeciles is unfair. Most Chelsea fans have been very open in their respect for Cech and I bet he will get an excellent reception when he returns to Stamford Bridge this season. I really don't see the comparison with a move that happened so long ago before there was the moron's platform for abuse that is twitter. If Henry made his move today, I guarantee there would have been morons from the Arsenal fanbase abusing him on the site specifically designed for imbeciles who can only read 140 characters before losing concentration.}

29 Jun 2015 20:16:19
The irony oh how I love the irony.

Why do arsenal constantly feel the need to display this false class the like to pretend they have.

rvp, cesc, nasri, ade all gotdogs abuse from u lot, but don't let me stop u from burying your head in the sand.

πŸ‘

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Jun 2015 20:28:36
To be fair Ed RVP and nasri were a different kettle of fish.
1. RVP was well looked after by arsenal and spent a lot of time on treatment table had one full good season and left. Wenger stuck by him time and again.
2. Nasri wasn't time served and left for money

Both cases no loyalty.

Fabregas called mourinho from pig to a dog and now bezzies.

Petr cech 11 years loyalty saved a pen to win them champs leauge and only left to get first team football. Abramhovic isn't generally a nice bloke but well understood this. Cech amazing letter to chelsea fans top bloke.

All this been said its only a minority of fans but from all the terraces iv been on arsenal fans are up there with the most respectful . But as always there's always a few

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Arsenal fans can be as bad as any other, singing disgusting songs about RVP because he left. Who cares why he left? It is no excuse to sing those vile songs. Sorry but you Arsenal fans are no different than any other set of fans and it is just ridiculous to suggest otherwise. Fans are not a specific subsection that support particular clubs, it is not all the nice ones follow one club and all the knobs another. It is a broad cross section of society that follows a team.}

29 Jun 2015 20:30:56
Nasri got abuse because of the things he said; RVP because he was club captain and sat on the bench for 6 years, had one good season, then told fans it was the clubs fault and the boy inside him wanted United. That is going to provoke abuse. Cesc didn't get abused badly. Rooney however had people turning up at his house in Balaclavas.

People in glass houses buddy.....

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - glass houses? What an idiotic comment. I am not a Man Utd fan, and as for people turning up at Rooney's house, they were an embarrassment but no worse than some of the abuse you think is excusable. Sorry but you are as bad as the knobs chanting vile abuse if you think that it is ok because you did not like the way someone left. It is pathetic whoever it is and making excuses like you all are is worse because you clearly know better.}

29 Jun 2015 20:50:46
To be fair I've been on their page and they wish him nothing but we'll and are greatfull to him for everything.
Personally I felt exactly the same about Sagna last season, if a player has given you their best years how can you feel any other way towards them.
There will always be people who can't accept the bigger picture.

29 Jun 2015 23:17:11
I agree with you ed, every club has a small minority of fans that do put their club in the media for the wrong reasons, when those arsenal fans abused Wenger and the team at the train station I was genuinely ashamed to be an arsenal supporter cause of that small minority of fans that dragged the club down with their own stupidity, I would of happily accepted my team loosing points because of those people, it isn't fair that they should get treated that way, we are all passionate about football but there is no excuse for that behaviour, arsenal was always known for the way they run their club people even labeled arsenal with "a touch of class" so for those fans to do that was disrespectful towards their OWN club. 95% of chelski fans probably wishes him farewell and all the best but that small minority is what gets documented and I'm sorry but it's not on, he didn't deserve death threats again him and his family. If there were arsenal fans doing the exact same thing right now I'd call them disgraceful as well or any other club for that matter

Great signing in big pete absolutely buzzing. Still think we should replace merteslacker and get another holding midfielder personally I like krychowiak. Be interesting to see how he'd do and if it would get the best out of ozil.

I know I am prob living in dream land but 2 more sigining and i believe that what ever your preference is we have 2 teams that can compete at the very top

GK - Cech / Shezza
LB - Moneral / Gibbs
CB - Kos / Mert
CB - Gab / Chambers
RB - Debuchy / Bellerin
DM - CARVALHO / Le Coq
CM - Ramsey / Wilshire
LAM - Sanchez / Welbeck
CAM - Ozil / Santi
RAM - Walcott / OX
STK - LACAZETTE / Grioud

both Carvalho and Lacazette seem to be available, even if both a little over priced for current ability, no denying that they would improve the team now and also have great potential to improve further.

I know I have left out other and some bay disagree with the 2 teams i have put, but just thinking out loud.

Anybody else think we should go for alderweireld? Surely it solves two big problems. Firstly replacing merteslacker who IMO gets away with murder compared to other players who get criticised and can fill in for frannie coq when not available without stopping his development.
Thoughts?

.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

29 Jun 2015 15:19:18
Interesting, although I've never seen him in the DM position I don't think. Coq proved the importance of that role to us last season and so I hope anyone Wenger plans to use as cover/replacement can more than 'do a job' in DM and is, instead, solidly consistent and effective.

Alderweireld may be that person and he is a good defender but he won't be cheap as I hear Southampton, Spurs and some other teams are interested in him plus he is fairly young and has proved a hit in England already.

To further your point, Carvalho can also play as a CB when not being used as a DM

Hi Brad welcome onboard mate, its a 3 way fight for the title as I see it ED Arsenal chelsea city with utd retaining their 4th place trothy :-), love saying that.
I personally think city will fall away at some stage during the season leaving us and chelsea to battle it out for first and second.
What can I say, its how I think it will play out and when have I ever been wrong before?

{Ed001's Note - interesting. I can't see Arsenal finishing below 3rd, that seems a safe bet. Hard to know what City will be like, but Chelsea are going to be the team to beat.}

I agree ed and g62. Chelsea are team to beat. Will have to see how city come on in transfer window and I feel United need to make a lot of changes so will have to spend most of season settling in. Could be our best chance in a long time

Definitely Browgun, our best chance in ages (hopefully).

You have to go quite a few seasons back in order to find a summer where it wasn't blatently obvious that there are atleast two other teams who rank higher than us in terms of being the favourites.

But, like you say, let's see who Man City recruit over the summer.

That was very confusingly worded but I'm tired, at work, in the middle of a caffeine crash and just generally too lazy to improve it.

agree browgun, youve got to wonder what city are up to though, its been so quite over there recently

It was your best chance for a number of years brow, but like normal instead of taking that opportunity your club/team/fans found excuses why u couldn't.

I don't see that changing now.

Banter please ed's.

Haven't posted in a while but been an avid reader, over the moon with the Cech signing, 11mil is a steal for arguably one of the best keepers in the world and also still young(ish) by goalkeeper standards.

Got proper excited about the Vidal rumours until sly sports did a u-turn saying it was 90% done too it's now "wide of the mark" hopefully that changes because I'd love to see him in an arsenal shirt! But the problem I foresee along with a lot of others is, where does he fit and who has to be sacrificed? He gets picked week in week out at juventus so I can imagine he would want the same at arsenal, it's headache but a much preferred one as opposed to not having anyone lol

Overall I have high hopes for this season already, we've FINALLY got a world class keeper along with some fantastic outfield players that I truly believe can make us champions, still think we need a 20-25 goals a year striker so who knows what will happen in the next month or so. All I know is I have my mini gooner due in the next 3 weeks so I'll have a companion to watch the best team the world has ever seen! :)

I imagine Wilshere would rather retire than join MU, although he'll have a chance to strike revenge on Paddy McNair everyday.

Probably the second least likely destination should he leave which he won't.
Regardless of whether we would or wouldn't cash is on him bot Arsene and Jack are totally 100% convinced he is our future and that is unlikely to change while Arsene is manager.

Who said anything about Wilshere to United? He can have Hargreaves old spot on the medical table if he likes.

Yes, definitely. Annoyingly, some teams more than others, as we both found out last season (well us gooners have known it for a long time now). :)

off topic but congrats to liverpool on the clyne signing. nice price and he can be there right back for years to come.

still buzzing off cech can't wait to see him in action.

i like the vidal rumours. he's a winner. he's angry and will add a lot to us.

enjoy your week not long till the season will kick off again. stay safe people x

Hi Derby mate hope things are picking up for you and your family mate.
He looks a decent signing mate but as always time will tell, massive season for Rogers ahead he needs Liverpool come out of the blocks quickly and has to put in a very serious top 4 challenge plus finish a very good 5th to stay in the job I'd have thought.
I can't see the top 4 changing from last season only the positions within it hopefully :-)

Good signing for Rogers which is unusual, but I don't think they have enough quality in other positions to be fair. It's true what you say about Vidal Derby, but do you think we can accommodate him without selling someone like Cazorla or Ramsey - or even Jack? I hope not, although Cazorla was looking to go home to Spain last summer so maybe it's a matter of one in, one out.

I'd probably have to agree with you too G62, about the top 4 next season. Although I'm tempted to put a couple bob on an underdog, maybe Southampton or Swansea (who did well last season and have already bought well this summer). Stranger things have happened.

haha! everyone banging on about clyne being such a good signing, while southampton have got a ready made replacement in soares for half his market price whilst getting market price and some for clyne... reasons why liverpool are god awful as a cub and southampton are brilliant!

29 Jun 2015 12:55:21
That's great news for Southampton, similar to when Clyne was a ready made replacement for Chambers but it doesn't mean it isn't a good signing for Liverpool as they are sewing up a hole that needs repairing. Like you say though, Southampton are brilliant and a a great example of a football club in general, from top to bottom.

quick reply for you guys. the top4 will indeed stay the same.

with vidal yes someone will be on the bench at least, cazorla ramsey ozil all have a fight on there hands. what a signing he would be tho. id take carvalho but not for the price. yes he looks good for u21s but its men against boys at that level. suarez etc would run rings around him?

soares is a very good buy and the moves are good for both teams. there also looking as signing jordy to replace morgan who is a clasie player........

anyway lots of family time and a good break from watching football. its been nice.

speak soon enjoy.
