That was a great read mate, must have taken a while to put together. A few of the over paid snowflakes over here should read that.

Hard to imagine being at the top of your sport and being subjected to that kind of thing.

As for FIFA they really are a joke as is a World Cup in Qatar. Are they as bad as reported?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate glad you enjoyed it. The Qataris are certainly not the best mate. Most of the countries in the region have made some progress towards improving living conditions for workers, but they went backwards trying to get the stadia built.}

Exceptional piece, really well researched and your points at the end are depressing but spot on. I've shared the article with some mates as it's a fascinating read - the depths of insanity and depravity are truly amazing.

{Ed001's Note - thank you very much mate, I appreciate both the compliments and that you thought it was worth sharing.}

That was a harrowing read! But well written and enlightening! Makes the petty problems we worry about over here seem ridiculously trivial! 5 or so years back I met a guy from Qatar in Thailand, he told me he was working there and I asked what he did. He said he went round Asia finding workers and then organised their travel to Qatar and jobs there and he made $100k a year doing this which seemed a lot to me for being a recruitment agent, I didn't know much about Qatar at the time. But since finding out how little rights foreigners have in Qatar and its hard for them to leave their jobs or even the country without permission, I'm pretty sure he was basically a slave trader! He told me I could get a good job as a white chef, I would probably still be there now!

{Ed001's Note - a lot of people just disappear there mate. I think you are right in your description of him.}

scary there's still places like it in this day and age and disgusting that governments and organizations will ignore it and turn a blind eye for monetary gain.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - there is no excuse for it either, no one can truly plead ignorance any more.}

Yet what will we do about it?
Will we personally and collectively watch the world cup in 3 years time or will we vote with our conscious and have no personal part in it drubbing the qualification or finals themselves?
As people of the world we can either allow or stop this world cup happening at all.

No viewers no advertising or sponsorship no advertising or sponsorship = no money and no money = no world cup in that county!
Collectively we have the power will we use it?

Also g62, we as citizens have the responsibility to appeal directly to our MPs/ senators/ whatever - FIFA is an international body and subject to international law. They can and should be prosecuted when they facilitate the abuse of human rights. Enough people putting pressure on governments will also be required to find justice for these poor buggers who end up worked to death, or worse.

Have to laugh. I read somewhere about OGS.
When he arrived at ManU they were languishing 18 points behind Liverpool. They then went on "that magical run of games" while Liverpool's title bid "hit a blip" and after "turning the ship around" they are now.18 points behind Liverpool.
