Eds,
Would you be kind enough to clear something up for me please.
If reports are to be believed, Lambert has signed for Liverpool.
Now, the window isn't open yet, so is this, at present, a 2 party agreement between Southampton and Liverpool?.
I'm assuming, and I may be wrong, that it's only a 'draft' agreement because it can't be officially sanctioned by The FA until the window opens?
Also, monies can't be exchanged, again until window opens and FA sanction the deal?.

{Ed003's Note - seems about right to me dg.}
Thanks 003, much obliged.
Agree0

Just out of interest what would happen if while in Brazil Ricky Lambert met a wizard who turned him into a goat? Would Liverpool still have to take him or would there be an opt out clause written into the deal in this event?
I know it most probably won't even happen but I was just wondering
Agree0
Disagree0
{Ed007's Note - Why would anyone want to turn a donkey into a goat?}
Good point 007, but I wasn't thinking he would meet a nasty cake horrible Brazilian wizard just one who's English wasn't so good and when Ricky said his wish was to be amongst the goals it might get lost in translation

Who thinks we will 'sign' anybody before WC starts?
Believable0
Unbelievable0
I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't sign anyone before the EPL starts,
We are just going to have to wait for Remy Dags
Agree0
Disagree0
Dags. With our form it stands to reason that we sign a player before the World Cup and he gets injured playing for his country and ends up in the treatment room before he kicks a ball in an Arsenal shirt. You may laugh! but you see what happens.
Agree0

Agree 1404, come on Remy, lol.
Golds, you could be right there mate.

We are not a feeder club.
The players that left chose to do so.
I'm a big Morata fan, but a buy back clause is rubbish.
We don't groom superstars for other teams.
Rather, grow some balls and go pick Di Maria, the CL MOTM, off right from under their nose
You don't gain respect by grooming talent for your competition, rather you gain it by taking their best players with them sitting handcuffed
We are not Everton or Getafe
Time to act like a big boy, not an invited guest to the big boys table
Rant over
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Do buyback clauses mean anything - we have one with Cesc and with Vela and don't see either of them returning.
Its in the hands of the player just the number may already be pre-determined.
Agree0
Disagree0
Absolutely USG,
we need to think big to be big.
Agree0

Buy back clauses are big in Spain, and as in the case of Vela and Sociedad, can be a disaster

I heard an interesting discussion on one of the many Arsenal themed podcasts I listen to and I was wondering what people's opinions on it were. They were estimating the money which would be spent by arsenal (net and total) this summer on transfers.
I would go for £55 mil total and £45 mil net. What do you all think?

So Sagna confirms the worst kept secret that he will definitely leave on a free transfer.
After 8 years or so of service he's earnt the right to run his contract down and get one more big payday at 31.
Now over to Carl Jenkinson.
Believable0
Unbelievable0
No, not over to Jenks. I think he needs to be loaned out, I love his work ethic and how he adores the club. but he's not good enough, yet

Totally agree with all doctor Green, Sagna has been brilliant for us just feel a little sorry for him that he leaves the year before the title arrives, hey ho his loss is Jenks gain.
Jenks deserves his chance and I think he will more than take it

On Ramsey v Gerrard its a bit herd to judge fairly as Aaron is still to reach his prime and Gerrard is well past his.
If its on as they are today, then Rambo is ya man, but he still has a way to go to match Gerrard at his absolute best, every chance he will but they are very big boots to match.

Idea for poll or poll of the day question. Who is a better player, Ramsey or Gerrard?
A debate I was having with my brother (LFC fan). Gerrard has had a good season by his standards, but surely Ramsey has now surpassed him as a box-to-box, goal scoring midfielder? Gerrard obviously a better leader on the pitch etc.
Thoughts?
Believable0
Unbelievable0
{Ed033's Note - Above poll now on the Arsenal voting polls page.
Ramsey has had one good season
gerrard has had 10 good ones
Agree0
Disagree0
But Ramsey is 23 whereas gerrard is 33/34.
Agree0
Disagree0
Gonna agree with Reet as its a bit unfair to compare the 2 players but if Rambo turns out to be as good as what Gerrard was (or arguably still is) I would be happy.
Its like comparing me and G62.
my posts are always good, G62's are sometimes good.
(sorry mate, only joking, call it pay back for your Remy comments, lol).
Agree0

REET
LOL
hope you aren't counting this year buddy, I meen I know a few scousers that would have burnt him at the stake after chelsea
Agree0

29 May 2014 19:05:33
Reet,
So your saying Gerrard has been better than Ramsey last 10 years. Bit unfair seeing as Ramsey spent two years recovering from a horror injury. Stevie G has had his first good season in a while. Honestly say he hasn't had a good season since 2009.
Ramsey better goal scorer, tackler, he is more of an athlete. i'd say he has already surpassed Gerrard.
Agree0
Disagree0
Good men I look very much forward to meeting buying you both and buying your first piint, of course same goes for anyone else who wanted to join us?
We will be able to post the photo of photos on the sightings page :-) our granddad's great uncles etc will be proud of us lads.
Hopefully we'll have a betting crossing than the lads had 100 years ago :-)
Pack up ya troubles in ya old kit bags boys, its a jolly boys go Continental outing to pay their respects
Agree0
Disagree0
I had it coming Dags mate I can't argue with that :-)
The answer to Rambo v Gerrard is easy! Who has scored most goals? For Arsenal that is.
Agree0
Disagree0
But guys ramsey has had one season
many of you wanted him out last year
unless he csn replicate his form for the next five years he will be nowhere close to gerrard
but yes he does have the potential albeit his injury concerns
Agree0
Disagree0
Based on last season, Ramsey played better than Gerrard in my opinion.
Gerrard has been good for over a decade and I echo the sentiments of others, if we plays as well as Gerrard has done we'l all be more than happy.
For me though, Ramsey has the potential to exceed Gerrard! If he wins a Champions League like Stevie G it'll be good too!
Agree0
Disagree0
30 May 2014 09:18:47
Thought I'd add my 2 cents as a Liverpool fan and say that Gerrard is still the more complete player, as already stated Ramsey was hardly the fans no1 before the season began.
I do however agree that Ramsey can be as good as Gerrard if his form carries on.
Agree0
Disagree0
Forget about history the question was, who's better.
Ramsey is without a doubt a better finisher, much more energy, a better tackler, far better box to box midfielder, the one department I'd say gerrard is better in is his range of passing, this season he has dropped deeper and controlled the game like scholes used to for Utd (not as good as scholes did though.)
Ramsey is better now, how about this for a statement, he is also better than Schweinsteiger.

Anyone else up for a trip to Belgium to celebrate the Christmas day truce of 100 years ago? I will find out the excpact dates and post them in the next day or so.
It's a great chance to thank, celebrate and show our respects to those who's bravery so many of us owe our existence to in what beyond question was the soldiers of both sides finest hour.
Im far from the greatest organizer of things but will give it my best shot and if anyone else wants to help get it sorted that would be much appreciated.

Not sure why we would want to get Richards as our rb for next year.
In the last 2 seasons has made like 18'appearances due to serious injuries and people complain we have to many so why bring in another player who will end up on the treatment table who will want around 100k a week.
Seems a silly move in my opinion for an average player
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Totally agree Pizz.
waste of money, IMO.
Agree0
Disagree0
Agreed but it must be hard playing only a few games a season behind Zabaleta! Up until 2011/12 season he had played an average of 40 games a season. Aurier and another center back would be a more solid bet but at the same time Richards has prem experience and knows what it takes to win the league after playing 37 games in their title winning season he just hasn't been able to get in the team recently so his fitness is F-ed just look what city have done to Englands most promising midfielder from a couple of years ago Rodwell who?

No to Eto'o, yes to Remy.
Agree0
Disagree0
Is "No to either" an option?
Agree0
Disagree0
We all seem to agree we need to sign a RB DM ST and back up GK so my question who would be the worst signing in each postion that we have been linked with?
For me it's
GK Marshall why would we spend all that cash on a back up?
RB Richards always injured and never lived up to his potential
DM Barry to slow to old and not that good
ST Etoo stupid wages and short term we'd be looking again next year ( Remy would also suck we'd never shut Dags up if he signs )

Agreed.

Agree with your choices beer drinker but wouldn't mind Marshall as our number 2, very good keeper.

Transfer talk is a bit slow today. I have a quiz challenge for you all. No google search to find the answers.
1) How many players have scored for Arsenal in all competitions?
2) Which players have scored their first goal for Arsenal this season (All competitions)
3) Which nationality has the most different goal scorers? (Number of players, not goals scored)
Believable0
Unbelievable0
1. 12
2. Ozil, jenks, not sanogo
3. English
Complete guesswork, good questions
Agree0
Disagree0
29 May 2014 13:55:57
1. 9
2. Ozil, Jenkinson and Gnabry (vs Swansea)
3. French, English and German 4 each (Kos, Sagna, Giroud, Flamini + Walcott, Ox, Wilshere, Jenkinson + Ozil, Podolski, Gnabry, Mertesacker)
Agree0
Disagree0
Unfortunately you have not got all three technically right.
Good honest "no cheating" effort though.
1) Higher
2) More
3) Not quite correct.
Agree0
Disagree0
All just guesses from me.
1/ 20
2/ Gnabry, Ozil, Miyachi and Jenks. there's probably more but I can't think.
3/ Spain
When do we get the reults in
Agree0
Disagree0
5 new goal scorers actually
Agree0

Detroit, you are also wrong on all three.
Good effort though!
Agree0

Saint you are wrong. There are four new goalscorers not five.

29 May 2014 15:11:11
I admit a complete guess for 1. Who else scored first goal for 2? Surely one of those 3 nationalities is right?
Agree0
Disagree0
Detroit, the country with the most scorers had FIVE different scorers. That might help answer the question.
Agree0

1) 16
2) Ozil Gnabry Jenks Monreal
3) British
Agree0
Disagree0
29 May 2014 15:58:37
Haha this is annoying me. going to have a second crack at it
1. 16
2. Ozil, Jenks, Gnabry and Flamini (1st goal in second spell?) Really can't think of anyone else. Kallstrom and Sanogo didn't score. Monreal debut goal was last season.
3. English, did gibbs score aswell?
Agree0
Disagree0
1) 16
2 ) Ozil Jenks Gnabry Moneral
3) Britaun
Agree0
Disagree0
Huh? Only posted my correction 5 new goal scorers including kallstroms pen, British and 17 goal scorers overall
Agree0
Disagree0
1). 19.
2). Ozil, jenks, gnabry and Eisfeld.
Germans or Brits.
.
Agree0
Disagree0
BDG you are also wrong on all three I'm afraid.
More than 16 players.
Wrong four players.
Britain isn't a country. It's a collection of countries so no that doesn't count.
Agree0
Disagree0
To be fair he said nationality not country, so British would be correct. It was my bad first time round saying England
Agree0
Disagree0
Sm6 is probably the closest!
The answers are:
1) 19 different scorers in all competitions (out of a possible 33 players used)
2) Four players broke their goal scoring ducks this season. Ozil, Jenkinson, Gnabry and Eisfeld (in the league cup!)
3) Finally, two countries had FIVE different goal scorers for Arsenal this season; England (Gibbs, Jenks, Wilshere, Walcott and Oxlaide-Chamberlain) and German (Mertesacker, Gnabry, Eisfeld, Podolski and Ozil)
Good work guys!

For those of us who either don't have the funds or the desire to head out to Rio this summer there's an international game taking place much closer to home and of far more importance taking place in Belgium later this year between Great Britain and Germany.
Its to mark the 100th anniversary of the Christmas day truce of 1914 where the soldiers of both sides were able to put aside their difference's and played football and share rations etc together.
Probably the best example of humanity shining through in the most difficult of places and times.
Its organized by the Fa and well worth supporting imo, any one not 100% sure of what happend all those years ago, its very well worth a search of the net

Can I just say that Wenger will sign 3-4 players maximum.
A goalie now that Fabianski has left.
A RB due to Sagna leaving
A striker due to Bendtner leaving
A midfielder to replace (eventually) Arteta and Flamini.
Agree0
Disagree0
I agree with Greeny, 3 or 4 players top.
1) A keeper - Low cost or on a free
2) A midfield player - Up to £10m
3) A forward - Up to £15m
4) A RB - up to £8m max or he will use Jenkinson & Bellerin.
Don't expect Wenger to spend anthing like the reported £100m. He may have to replace Vermaelen & if so he will spend what he receives max.
Agree0
Disagree0
29 May 2014 11:37:18
Who says he will sign 4 players max? I think he will sign 6/7. We need it.
Gk - Replace Fabianski.
RB - Replace Sagna
CB - Short here anyways regardless of if Vermaelen leaves
CDM - Replace Diaby/Kallstrom
ST - Replace Bendtner/Park
ST - Short here anyways.
Knowing Wengers unwillingness to spend and "when the right player becomes available" attitude, I would be more than happy with.
Gk - Ruddy (£6m) RB - Aurier (£8m) CB - Kouyte (£6m) CDM - Bender (£20m) ST - Remy (£8m) ST - Eto'o (Free)
Agree0
Disagree0
Detroit, Wenger hates signing too many first team players in one window. He thinks it unsettles the squad.
Apart from 2011 when he did a last minute trolley dash, it's rare he buys more than four players.
Last summer: Flamini and Sanago oh and some German kid for £42.5m.
These are summer and January buys.
2012/13: Poldi, Giroud, Cazorla and Monreal.
2011/12: Jenks, Gervinho, The Ox, Arteta, Mertesacker, Eisfeld, Park Joel Campbelland Brazils greatest LB Andre Santos!
2010/11: Chamakh, Koscielny, Squillaci and Miyaichi
2009/10: Vermaelen and Sol Campbell (short term deal)
2008/09: Silvestre (oh dear) and Andrei Arshavin the Russian meerkat!
Wenger is a creature of habit!
Agree0
Disagree0
29 May 2014 14:02:39
Greeny,
We are losing a lot of players and not a lot of youth coming through, just like 2011. We are 6 players short, you cannot rely on Martinez, Bellerin, Gnabry, Zelalem etc to fill places.
I think Wenger will buy 2/3 players for first XI and 3/4 as squadies.
Agree0
Disagree0
Detroit,
I agree mate. I think we need 4-5 players. I'm just saying I can't see Wenger buying more than 4 players.
We live in hope!
Agree0
Disagree0
Detroit, two of those players we can have in the squad, being martinez (backup/3rd choice) and Gnabry.
Gnabry has already shown he can play at the top level in england. maybe not a starter for the top 5 teams, but definitely has the talent to change games.
zelalem won't make it in england, sorry but a midfielder who is skinnier than mo farrah? in the Premier league? are we asking for another injury destroyed career?
i know he's 16 and has awesome skills, but the kid NEEDS to bulk up or he's just going to get injured like diaby.
regardless.
Wenger won't sign many 1st team players.
he might however sign some squad players, remember we have NEVER been in the position we are in now under wenger.
no pressure from debts, increased bank balance, crap academy prospects(not terrible but they are overhauling it this summer afaik) and numerous contracts ending with no sign of a resigning.
we NEED a gk, a rb and a striker.
we want, a DM, a cb backup and another striker/Lwinger.
in total 3 needed 3 wanted.
out of those 6, 2 are replacements for the 1st team.
i can see wenger doing that, 2 needed players in, 4 squad players.
doesn't go against his policy of dramatic change in the dressing room.
though having said all of that I feel we will only get a RB GK Striker and a CM, I doubt we are going to get the CDM we need, I doubt we will get a ne cb in and I doubt wenger will buy another striker/winger with sanogo on the books
