As someone who has stuck up for sanogo in the past, well done son. Bellerin looks promising, cambell looks bright, chambers looks good and arteta still looks slow. Please get a decent dm.

Sanago impressed me today. Not amazing goals but right place that's what a striker needs to do. With the players around him he could well be tapping them
In for fun. Still few wasn't easy finishes. And arteta to me once again has shown why we must get a dm. He looked so easy to get past. It's not just his pace but he's poor at reading the game for me. Look at sac. He is slow as anyone but how many people make it past him effortlessly. Not many because he reads the situation well

Agree0 Disagree0

Arteta's lack of pace and poorly timed tackles means he constantly gives away free kicks in dangerous places. We need a world class DM and a quality, experienced and mobile CB (but not one who will demand to be first choice, rather one who will be happy to play in rotation). Despite Sanogo's goals I think we also need a pacey striker with a proven goal scoring record as an alternative to Giroud if we want to challenge city and Chelsea.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't care if it was a friendly or not, I really enjoyed seeing him getting goals and getting that NOgoal tag off his back. He looks to already have a good bond with Campbell and they looked very good playing together. In the end, you can only playing the team in front of you, Yaya did it well. Also, I don't care if he ever scores a stunner, I'll be happy if gets himself in the right place for a tap in every time. He's big, deceptively quick and seems to know where to be, at 21, I'm very happy with him. A loan to a premiership side could turn him into a genuine force.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Campbell was soup-er.!

Ed, What's happening with Serge Gnabry? He doesn't seem to be included in any of the preseason games.

injured mate - would have been at the under19 final with the germans otherwise!

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2014 21:26:55
We really need to add that bite in midfield so that our defence is stronger against the top teams and it allows our creative midfielders to have more of the game against the top teams

With the pace we have added - it would be a huge shame to be 1 or 2 players short of winning the league

We did pretty well against mid-table and lower placed teams but really struggled against the top 5 or 6 teams.

To win the league we need to draw away and win at home against City, Chelsea, Utd etc. that's where we have to make up the points difference next season. SO, that needs a strong CDM as these games are won or lost in midfield.

Come on AW, we are all behind you and believe in you. Let's finish the job and lift a major trophy this year!

Like Chamer's attitude:
“It’s amazing. To play in front of such a big crowd and [with] the quality of players i’m playing with now it’s a great achievement.
“I enjoy [playing] centre-half, obviously I played right-back last season but if there’s an opening for me I’ll just try my best to grab that opportunity and take it.
“The quality of players we’ve got in this team is immense. To play with such amazing players is an honour. There’s always an option on."

Sounds like he realises the opportunity in front of him and that he will play with pride

Dare we say we've found a new Tony Adams? Arsenal centre back and captain by the time he's 21?

Thoughts about the game v Benfica:

Glad he scored 4 goals, but to be honest, I don't think Sanogo is good enough for Arsenal this year. I think he should be loaned out to PL team this year with us receiving a Remy-type player, someone quick (preferably around 25) who compliments Giroud; it's a win-win really as Sanogo, who's still young, gets more PL experience while we get, in my opinion, a better overall striker. Nothing against Sanogo, it's just that he's just not dangerous enough, and the goals he scored--yes 4 is a very high tally--weren't convincing enough for me. I want him to succeed at Arsenal and I'm willing to eat humble pie. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

On a more positive note, I thought Bellerin looked VERY promising today! Great runs with and without the ball and superb dribbling for a right back. Just needs to watch his positioning defensively a little bit as he had a man open on a cross or two. I'll be glad if it's him and Debuchy competing for the right back spot as I think Chambers may be our 3rd choice center-back. Chambers looked strong and comfortable at the back.

Sanchez played very well for the 10 minutes he was in, as expected. He brought that bit of flair that's been lacking for a while. Looking forward to seeing him tear of the PL this year! Wonder if the Boss will play him on the wing or up front.

Still think we need a defensive midfielder even though I don't see it happening especially after Wenger's post-match comments.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Dont know what Arsene said after the gane but I'd take it with a pinch of sawdust, he's a poker player at the best of times

Invisible spray PT2.

Apparently, the FA have decided not to use the spray due to side effects.

2 weeks ago they asked Southampton Football Club to trial the spray during training.

Although safe to grass, if accidentally sprayed on player's, it makes them disappear after one minute.

You heard it here first.

T'was a good result Cammy.

Good performance and a chance to look at player's, formations and if they gel. Plus, a chance to get fitness level's up.

Result was good and good for confidence but result was not that important.

More importantly, Wenger had the chance to try out a jacket where the zip doesn't get stuck.

Great result for Arsene today.

3 cheers for Arsene>>>

United beat Galaxy 7-0. I would'nt read to much into it. Great morale boost coming into the season that's the main part.

Agree0 Disagree0

Looking at the way we won is what is most important.

the attacking understanding of that team after only a week together in austria.

even then alexis has only been with them for a few days.

it is looking VERY promising this season.

Replace monreal with a real cb and the starting line up is a fearsome B team indeed.

Would still love to see a top draw DM signed though.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think today will change anything on transfers one way or the other, if Arsene had plans for more players at 4.20pm then he still does now.
Today's great but like you say Banbury getting carried away with it would be silly, didn't chamack score in the Emirates cup? Did Gevinio! I can't remember.

I'm more excited about Bellerin. He looked very good in offence, passing, dribbling and crossing. On the defensive side he wasn't really tested today but I think he can be as good as Jenkinson. This line up made me think maybe Arsene got Chambers mostly for CB and he is counting on Bellerin for back up RB.

Campbell was fantastic and showed he has the quality to stay with us for the upcoming season and can compete for playing time.

Alexis looked sharp and happy and I think he can be what we all want him to be.

Nice to hear Arsene react to Gerrard's comments. Cut short -
"No player is big enough for Arsenal. I can understand him wanting to stay and win the league, but it didn't happen, (KERPOWW) and he's left now anyway!" (BANG)
Arsene should of finished his response with the age old playground cuss, (YOUR MUM!)

Arsene, Manager - Economist - Rude boy gangster.

Arsene is now saying things we've been desperate for him to say for years like, "we're open for a couple more signings." Don't stop there Arsene, or as he's known in the ghetto, professor W. If Bourinho pipes up, the new Arsene responds
"D man needs to shut is mout. Me is going to pop a cap in his ass the b*mbacla*t!

I think that proves I can mix it with the kids that live in the hood.

On Campbell " Arsene Wenger wants to keep him in the squad this season and benefit from him."

That's kind of good news I think.

I like Campbell but I still think a loan in the EPL would be best and bring in someone real strong. Also put Sanogo on loan.

However, if we don't have enough money to buy a defender, CDM plus a forward then Campbell is a great option as we have a handful of forwards to step in if Giroud needs a rest or competition.

The reality of balancing the books!

On a side note - AW keeping us competing during the financial constraint years was pretty amAzing and to stay professional while getting booed by own fans is admirable. The guy loves Arsenal just as much as us. We'll done AW

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If not now when for Campbell? He's done well in Greece and had a brilliant world cup so should be in our squad or sold, personally I want him to stay and can't see the point in loaning him out yet again

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2014 13:16:18
Campbell and Arsenal both need to see if he's right for the Premiership and for Arsenal. It's only fair, as lot of time and some personal effort and money have been invested in securing and managing him, or at least his rights, so far.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2014 13:44:12
I think there's merits to both scenarios.

He stays; he gets to adapt to our style in training, and grow alongside Ozil Sanchez and Ramsay.

The big problem though is that I think chances to play will be limited and the best way to develop is of course to play competitively. That said it needs to be top tier.

If we were to loan him out I'd like to see him go to Everton. They're a good side, play good football. And he'd have good competition and yet I still think he'd make the starting line-up.

We've had him a few years now and were forced to loan him because of work permit issues, So I think he'll be a gunner next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2014 08:18:05
We only have 7 first team defenders at present. For the Emirates Cup we are without Mertesacker & Vermaelen, so we are down to 5 defenders. We have only one recognised CB in Koscielny. We could play Chambers at CB or Miquel or Hayden. What concerns me is that we are going into the season with the likely departure of Vermaelen, leaving us with only 2 experienced CB's, with none of the three young options up to the task. We desperately need to sign 2 quality CB's. It seems that Wenger likes to acquire attacking midfield players, but not CB's. Hopefully, we will make the necessary signings, but I am doubtful.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We only need to sign 1 CB and how many quality CBs are going to sit on the bench. Chambers will be our 2nd choice RB and 4th choice CB with someone new coming in to replace Vermaelon if he leaves. Let's not spend money for the sake of spending money.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2014 13:20:07
If last year taught us anything, it's that we need squad depth to compete and positive constructive competition for positions to keep players sharp. On average we had one of the best defenses in the league (thanks Bouldy!) but on our bad days we were awful. Who wants to turn up and know the game is gone within 20 minutes -:(. I love this squad, but we need a couple more.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think wenger has stressed enough not once but twice that if Vermalen leaves a replacement will come in

{Ed025's Note - not really saint, very good technically, but for me a manager needs a bit of a nasty side, saying that, the best 2 up and coming managers for me are rodgers and martinez, and they are both wimps!..which just goes to show i really dont know what im talking about mate.. :)

Per - he has a good understanding of the game, tactically astute, passionate, calm, good communicator and commands respect.
He is successful as he has to work as part of a team rather than ridiculous skills that he can't teach.
He also understands how important winning is and most importantly - he understands the fans.

{Ed025's Note - good choice SY4..

Bender? Reus? Hummels? (See what I did there -;)

Personally think that gone are the times when you can stick a big gob in the changing room and let rip at players bull in a china shop style, I think now with the big egos in football you need a calm head who can keap players happy, and has a good tactical understanding, e.g. Martinez. I think Arteta fits that mould. Also, his hair.

Arteta, Per, Ramsey, Gerrard, Lampard, Pirlo, Toni, Xabi, Mullar, Lahm, schweinsteiger. Are players I think wil make good managers.

@Sheeny. Lol y Sanogo
@I saw yyc. Player with leading qualities in every position(defence, midfield & Attack) & we need players in all 3 of those position if TV5 leaves.
