Hey Ed's any chance you can clear something up?

All this talk of Suarez for Sanchez but Sanchez wants to come to Arsenal and not Liverpool is all well and good on the surface.

But how does this type of transfer work with regards to what the player wants?

Would Sanchez be able to be sold to Liverpool (for example) against his will? or is his choice what he is likely to get?

Thanks!

Guys

I've been thinking about the recent conversation around Pumas views on the new kit launch coinciding with the announcement of new signings.

There's 2 angles to this

The first is Puma won't want the kit to be overshadowed by the new signings. The second is that we won't announce signings until we can show them ff in the shirt they will be wearing next year

My thinking is that Puma will want the kit launch to have as much impact as possible. Therefore they will want the new signing in their kit so it goes in as many papers websites and tv reports as possible - its a kind of maybe not free but bonus advertising.

Think it this way, if you were Puma which would you rather have.

Scenario 1. Here's Theo Walcott in the new Arsenal kit by Puma

Or

Scenaario 2. Arsenal unveiled their new signing today. Here's (insert any big names of your choosing) who arrived at a total cost of (insert your own mega bucks figure) pictured wearing the new Puma kit. Puma have replaced Nike and their record breaking shirt deal helped in no small measure to Arsenal securing the services of (named player) and brought an end to Arsenal's period of austerity

If I was Puma I would want the new big name(s) in my shirt one day 1 because that would mean I got more media exposure for my money

That's why I am pretty calm right now. However, if we haven't signed anyone by the day after the kit launch I may get a tad tetchy lol

I don't think a signing will be announced officially till the 14th at the earliest. Post World Cup. Players like debuchy, schneiderlin, who we have been linked with, IF we do sign them we won't announce before, disrupting their WC preparations.
Any press conference would be done at the Emirates with most major Heirachy in attendance. As we all know Wenger is in Brasil and more than likely will be till the end meaning he won't be back in London till week of the 14th.
Puma will have their day first so let's all enjoy the rest of the WC then watch the events unfold at the emirates.

{Ed025's Note - good idea rocky..

02 Jul 2014 20:13:39
This came from Jackson Martinez interview with the expreess

"My agent is taking care of my future, right now i'm at the World Cup and only after the World Cup I'll evaluate proposals."

As a child I cheered for Arsenal, they play a game that suits me. If I had the occasion to play there, I would say yes." ED do you think a player would say this of it wasn't a done deal.

{Ed027's Note - just the usual stuff mate, I doubt we will be signing him

02 Jul 2014 18:12:28
Ed, do you think Pogba or Vidal will leave Juventus this summer, or both?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - one could leave, both? Nope

02 Jul 2014 18:10:58
Ed, do you think Santi will leave Arsenal this summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - I personally don't think he will, we just gave him a new deal an the club is in a strong position, we've got other areas to be strengthening on. We won't want to lose a key player again and then buying a replacement is another thing

02 Jul 2014 17:41:41
ed do you think we have a realistic chance of getting Sanchez?
One of my favourite players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - I do yes

I don't think the US has ever been stung by the sport of football like it was yesterday

In my life I have never seen the country embrace a sporting event like this

The Olympics don't crowd out empty stadiums just so fans can watch

Living in Chicago, every bar yesterday was packed. Absolutely packed.

This sport is here to stay in a very real way, and American football and playing us will be a very different proposition moving forward

Can't say I've ever been more proud to cheer for someone than Tim Howard yesterday

16 saves in a match. Yes our defense was horrendous, but it didn't matter. He was a leviathan.

That being said, there is still only one footballing goal I have as a fan.

An Arsenal champions league win

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was rooting for the USA mate. Thought you might have sent it to pens but Belgium just had a bit more quality in finishing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Loving the fact that football (soccer) is now up there with Basketball as the 2nd biggest sport in America only behind american football. The growth rate of the sport had been pretty epic!

I'd have a punt on them winning the World Cup before England do again. A country that size with the amount of people playing it, it's not an outrageous suggestion!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its not mate..

02 Jul 2014 21:53:42
Belgians were vastly superior

We will bridge that gap the day our very own Gedion Zelalem suits up for the US

That my friend will be a game changer

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - not vastly for me USG..

In terms of teams right now it isn't as big but in terms of popularity it is. It has really taken off. With the amount of people taking it up they will produce some top talent in future. I stand by my suggestion.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jul 2014 01:48:41
Yeah I got to say us gooner if anyone is to blame for that loss it isn't our defense. They defended quite well, under a clearly dominant Belgian midfield and strike force. To see as little of the ball as we did and keep it that close was incredible. If wondolowski didn't kick like me we'd been in the quarters.

02 Jul 2014 20:24:08
Lets all take a deep breath and just calm down about the whole Sanchez thing. He's most likely a smoke screen for Kalou if we all think about it!

Micah Richerds available at a knockdown price!
Yes or no for you?
For me it's a massive yes, he can play RB and CB plus cover DMF and he's an Arsenal fan too. He's had a few injuries admittedly but he's w bargain waiting to be snapped up by someone and I really hope its us

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd be willing to bring him in, especially if we are letting TV5 go.
Debuchy and Richards for Sagna and Vermaelen? Who am I to know, but this seems better than we've experienced over the last few seasons.
I liked the idea of Aurier -I've only seen him play at the World Cup and he looked good, but what do I know?

If this leaves the big money for Khedira/Gonalons/Schniederlen in DM, Sanchez/Bonkers-telli/Shaqiri/Remy/Benzema/Martinez/Falcao/ up front/on-the-wing and anyone else Wenger decides to thrill us with, then I can think of worse.

What I do know is -and this is no shock-that Giroud is not good enough. Good, but not good enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

Richards is a great player and I would love him at arsenal I prefer him at cb than right back but he's still a good Rb

Agree0 Disagree0

I would sign him up. He would be a great addition to the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2014 21:28:06
Yep would take Richards and Debuchy to replace Verm and Sagna. I really think Richards could be a beast if he gets a run of games!

was just wonderin, say we made a double signing this summer who would your pick be out of the current pairs based on rumours;
vidal and sanchez
schneiderlin and sanchez
schneiderlin and benzema
di maria and benzema
khedira and di maria
khedira and benzema
khedira and sanchez.
out of those pairs what would be your choice as ideal signings? not asking who you think will/wont/may.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - the top one for me waq..

Yeah I'd got top one also in an ideal world

top one by a mile. Vidal and Sanchez = Premier League

2 Chileans, spicy combination

Vidal, Sanchez, Campbell, and a goalkeeper. Wow.

Ed, how far fetched is this idea? And is it true that Sanchez would want a move to Arsenal if he were to leave Barcelona?Likewise with Vidal?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed027's Note - Vidal is highly unlikely, won't happen. None of them have said anything on the matter, it is just rumours atm

02 Jul 2014 21:10:05
Yep Vidal and Sanchez.

Great question mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hmm interesting Ed, what made you decide that? because personally I couldn't come to a decision, on the balance between 1st and 4th for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it was 1&2 for me waq mate..

Di maria and benzema. Purely for the fact as him and giroud could offer a credible plan b when played together, something we never have.

Also do maria, had a gash world cup, but was the best player on the pitch in the champions league final. Pace. Lefty, eye for goal. Yes please.

I've always been on the Remy bus, would be a good signing

Agree0 Disagree0

Remy all the way for me to guys.

Us Kent and Essex lot need to stick together.

Remy would be a great signing and all the others would soon change their minds when he's banging the goals in.

Even more so when he does it against the down the road!

Why is everybody so dead against signing Debuchy?

He is a top quality RB who will replace Sagna, something he has done in the French team.

Would love him at Arsenal, that said, I would have still prefered Serge Aurier, purely for the age factor.

But Debuchy is top draw.

Like Pharrell, I'm happy.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think it is mainly to do with aurier having the best stats for a fullback in Ligue 1, and Debuchey playing for a midtable premier league team, when we are promised new and illustrious signings.

we have also been linked with micah richards. (here have a decent RB for free, we'll pay you £££'s for your injury stricken 2 years younger RB, makes soo much sense!)

Agree0 Disagree0

. Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof

Because I'm Happy.

We will definitely need a chant for Debuncy, to this tune:

So, no Di Maria for us than.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Jul 2014 16:38:46
Hey Dags,

Was it any of the sources that said we were going to buy or swap players for Nani, Smalling, Cleverley et al.

I'm guessing yes. Believe it when you see it.

Much like until you see Remy wearing a spurs shirt you won't believe it. :-)

And I don't want to see any tears when he doesn't come to Arsenal. ;-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Jul 2014 15:37:38
Banbury me old mukka,

like I said yesterday, its not a case of how many we want, but how many we need.

If Man City need a player for a certain position, pellegrini goes and gets the player. job done.

If Chelsea need a player for a certain position, Mourinho goes and gets the player. Job done.

Until we get the same mentality, than for me, Arsenal will remain an also-ran football club who are happy to pick up an occasional domestic trophy every 6 or 7 years.

We are a big football club and until we invest we will not have the weight to step in the ring and throw punches against the likes of Chelsea, City, Madrid, Barca and Bayern.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2014 19:11:38
Totally correct. We should have the players we need in place BEFORE the season starts, though I am aware the WC is affecting things.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Remy is going to be in charge of water supply we may well be facing a draught!
Let him go to spurs and carry there hopes as their used to a non delivery service

Agree0 Disagree0

DAGS

I totally agree but we are not a BIG spend club . simple as that, our job is always half done . sadly

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2014 11:48:32
Ed001 do you think Barca would have any interest in santi Cazorla + cash for Alexis Sanchez?

I'd hate to see him go but if he wants to return to Spain this Serbs a good option to me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't believe they are interested in Cazorla. So I very much doubt they would go for that deal.}

02 Jul 2014 11:31:42
Arsenal about heading for an epic fail yet again in transfer market. Classic Arsenal to making insulting offers. This time £19.4m for Sanchez (according to Metro). They better up the offer fast, because if Juve sells Vidal, they have the money to grab Sanchez.

Sanchez is exactly the kind of player Arsenal needs (right after a defensive midfielder). He is fast, skilled, creates goals, scores goals, plays every situation to the end and does his defensive duties too! So cough up the money Arsenal!

ED any chance some signings will be announced when the new puma kit trilogy will be announced?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is highly unlikely that Puma would want their new kit launch overshadowed by a player signing. I know it used to be done that way, but these days the manufacturers like their kits to take centre stage, and they pay a lot of money to make sure of it.}

02 Jul 2014 06:44:01
Ed is it true that sanchez would prefer to join Arsenal over Liverpool?.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no idea sorry.}

I think the reality is that Sanchez does not want to leave Barcelona.

and he would not want to be a make weight in any deal.

if liverpool want him, it will have to be a seperate deal.

we have bid 19 million according to some reports and 25 according to others, so I think we are quite far off from what barcelona would accept, so again we leave ourselves open to other teams to come in and sign the player.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2014 09:58:55
There are clubs interested in joel Campbell, I think we should keep him and loan out sanogo.Campbell is a much better player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Joel wouldn't accept another loan deal. He has already been on three and done pretty well. Plus he has been great in the WC.

World cup motd fever is a very dangerous conditionand under no circumstances should be acted upon.
South Africa 2010 Lionel Messi looked worth about £2.50 and Bendtner £30 million of anyone's money.
Some players who couldn't get into a top championship side on their club form raise their game for their country on the biggest stage of all.
Judging players on their club performances is a true reflection of their ability and value and is by far the most accurate gage

Believable0 Unbelievable0

True dat, although it is good fun claiming that some 28 yr old bloke looks like a world beater only to find out he's been released by Carlisle

Both of them are too good to be second choice

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2014 08:18:36
Eds. By the way what's the latest on Theo and the Ox. Any updates on how they are recovering?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - last I heard, Theo is expected back in Jan and the Ox should be ok for preseason training. With Arsenal's usual injury returns though, that means Jan 2017 for Walcott and the Ox will be retiring due to his knock.....}

02 Jul 2014 11:05:18
That sounds about right mate. But one question! Why such a quick recovery rate? :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am a born optimist....}

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2014 08:14:59
I understand we may need a backup keeper. But I keep reading that people think we need a main keeper too. I think Szezesny has served us well so far and I don't think a main keeper should be a priority at the moment.
I would like to see Arsenal concentrate on the positions that really matter first.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Jul 2014 16:17:42
Agree

A decent 2nd choice keeper would do nicely.
I still think we should have gone for Pantillimon when City let him go.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2014 08:10:02
I think it's safe to say we're going to sign at least a forward, a midfielder and a right back with a goalkeeper and a center back also likely. But I have a feeling this may not be all (although that's quite a lot already). It would be a classical Wenger move to sell Cazorla now when he's 29 and he possibly wants out. But if that happens I think we might see an unclassical Wenger move; replace Cazorla with a real star player. In the current squad a proper winger like Di Maria would fit in much better than Cazorla after all.

Without Theo we lacked pace last season but if we replace Bendtner, Cazorla and Sanogo (who should go out on loan) with Di Maria, Campbell and maybe Sanchez our attack would suddenly be one of the paciest in the league.

I like to think this is possible but only time will tell. Unless Ed crushes this dream with a "Don't hold your breath".

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Jul 2014 06:50:03
I have a horrible feeling it's going to be another desperate transfer window for us gooners. Last season, only the late signing of Ozil gave us anything to cheer about.
We need: 1 or 2 keepers. A right back. 1 or 2 centre backs (2, if Vermaelen departs), A defensive midfield player & a forward.
We have sold or released: Sagna, Fabianski, Viviano & Bendtner. With Vermaelen likely to go as well.
Hence 5 or 6 first team players are required.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Be patient mate, the transfer window only opened yesterday!

Agree0 Disagree0

Will do Willesden!
I just recall last year.

Eds, hypothetically speaking, if we sign Sanchez and use him as a Number 9, who do you think will be our most likely signing as a left winger?

Also what's your prediction if we use him as a winger?

Cheers

CIG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed003's Note - hypothetically speaking the guy you sign, and if you use him as a winger I would expect him to run down the wing and beat a man or 2 and cross the ball it's all hypothetical mind :) }

But surely 003 that's just what our opponents will be expecting him to do, I think we need a winger who can produce the unexpected like go in goal or take a really long throw without a run up :-) that'll surprise a few people.
