England have just agreed to a series of moral boosting friendlies to get euro 2016 out of their syste with the games to be played at various grounds around the country.
They kick off against Iceland at Wembley and if that goes well will be followed by Tesco Northampton Asda Norwich and the co op in Billericay.

It was funny because some guy asked Sir Bobby Charlton if his '66 side would have beaten Iceland and he said, "No problem, 1-0". The guy asked why only 1-0.

Sir Bobby replied, "We are all in our 70's now laddie" 😉.

Closely followed by 2 very tough fixtures, Lidl's of Littlehampton and the biggie, Aldi of Altrincham.

Just an observation guys! I've noticed a big difference in the transfer rumours this year compared to other years! Usually there are lots of rumours regarding us signing genuine world beaters and so called big names. This year however we are only getting linked with players that have not got big reputations. I know it's early and there's a long way to go but I find it strange.

Benzemagate last summer was more than enough fantasy football talk for almost everyone especially when he publicly laughed at the very idea that he ever contemplated joining us.
I don't think the club is in a hurry to have a repeat of that mate.
I'd rather have a factual Asano rumour than a made up Higuzemahimovic one any day of the week.

I think there's an 80% chance us arsenal fans will be disappointed come start of the new season or should I say 80% of arsenal fans will be disappointed with 80% of arsene wenger fans that will be delighted.

Good post Sanogo,
Well 80% anyway :-)

Absolutely gutted they have signed Mkhitaryan.

Wenger has missed a massive signing here, unless he has Mahrez in his sights, which I very much doubt.

Yep seems that way

I think The Foxes will keep their squad together.

If your to believe reports he wanted United. Your right though it's a shame it's been a while since I've been envious of a united signing.

After getting royally fleeced for God knows how many millions they had to eventually get a one bloody good player.

Saying that I do like Martial and Shaw, they can keep the other bunch of coffin dodgers and clowns like Fellatio, Anus Horrendous and the jacket potato. ;-)

We are all naturally biased but utd are a absolutely massive club world wide plus in mourinho they have a man who has a reputation for delivering big prizes quickly so even of we'd gone for him I doubt it would have ended any differently.
Utd have had 3 seasons without a challenge we have had 12, we just need to restore our reputation as contenders before we are as attractive a proposition as some other clubs for players with both ambition and opportunities.

I'm happy with the xhaka signing but I'm worried as he has a six pack and I've seen that he also loves a selfie, after selfie after selfie. God sake.

C'mon Sanogo,
We need somebody to replace Podolski and Sczezny in the 'selfie' stakes :-)

Eds, is this going to be another summer where Wenger makes no signings or makes a very late signings which will not vastly improve our team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Granit Xhaka has already agreed the move.}

02 Jul 2016 11:40:10
It seems to me there is a genuine desire to improve the team and squad this summer and the club really are doing all they can to get the players we need.
Personally I've not always felt that was true in the past when we chased the Benzema and Suarez rainbows that made lots of headlines but absolutely no headway.

Vardy was a realistic target that just didn't come off and there's little anyone could do about that, if he scores 40 goals next season people will say we should have done more to get him but I genuinely feel we did all we could this time.

Yeah, feel DG and G62 are pretty spot on.

A lot of our fan base are going to get frustrated (probably myself included eventually) when we see City signing Nolito and Gundogan, Chelsea moving for Batshuayi and Utd splashing out on Bailly, Zlatan and literally just now Mhiktaryan.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2016 13:07:02
Sorry accidentlally cut my post off, so I'll restart!

I think DG and G62 are right here.

Our fan base is going to get frustrated (myself included) when City have already got Gundogan and Nolito, Chelsea have Batshuayi and Utd have splashed on Bailly, Zlatan and Mkhitaryan, whilst we've got Xhaka, failed in our Vardy pursuit and seem to be linked with every player going and still sign none of them.

I think the penny has dropped at the club, £30m for Xhaka is a big purchase for a midfielder who's only really had 2 years at the top level, so I think the desire to spend is there and we will attempt to exercise that.

The problem is, whilst City and Chelsea have near bottomless funds and Utd have that coupled with the 'skill' of happily paying over the odds for a player, we don't.

We're a very well off club, but the media throw the whole 'Arsenal have £127,484,485,48.72 in the cash reserves' every year and it causes even more frustration on our part and sells them more papers/ get them more clicks.

As an example, based on no facts what so ever, as I see it while City can go for, Aubamayeng, miss out, then go for Higuain, miss out, then Cavani, miss out, then eventually think sod it and just splash £25m on Bony to be 3rd choice striker, we can't.
If we're going to spend big money on a forward, he has to be a starter and if we don't get our first or second choice, splashing out on a player who's plan C, isn't really a clever move.

Vardy was our first choice, as G62 says, I too think we did the best we could to sign him, but I don't think he was ever going to leave Leicester, it may of crossed his mind, but I think he owes them too much, coupled with the fact he's loved by 90% of the Leicester population, it would of taken a mad offer to get him.
I doubt Asano is plan b (if we even sign him) I'd imagine he's 'one for the future'
So it will be interesting to see who/ if we target next.

As per usual, I've gone off on a tangent, so, as a final point, I'm positive we're going to make a mark in the market, but if we don't, I'm cleaning the pitchfork ready!

Same old same old

an early signing to please some, then a total unknown from the Far East who will no doubt be loaned out

How can anyone say we are strengthening the squad knowing DW is out until January, before we kick a ball we are weaker

I see M Utd have signed another.

Wasn't there some discussion that Kroenke uses the funds to guarantee other loans? He is building a very expensive stadium in LA at the moment - so maybe we are stadium poor once again ;- (

There is no stand out candidate for the England job and let's face it our teams performance's in finals are getting worse and worse with evey tournament we go to.
I think we should stop and start again and with so many more reasons for us not to attend the 2018 finals than to actually be there now is the ideal time to do it.
Let Gareth Southgate play the u21 in the qualifiers and give the current squad a two year subapical in which time they can evaluate what playing for their country actually means to them and it would take the heat out of the ridiculous circle of humiliations and also give a young generation some experience without the pressure of expectation to qualify.
To simply just keep going as we are isn't going to improve things sometimes you need to take a step back to take 10 forward.
Oh and if it looks like we are going qualify by mistake we could always call up the golden generation for a reunion to ensure we don't :-)

Thoughts - could we play Granit and Aaron in the middle of midfield or does that leave us a little exposed?
I feel Granit and Francis may be too defensive while I think Granit and Santi would play too deep and I don't think it is as interesting as Granit &Aaron.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

02 Jul 2016 10:17:50
Aaron will have impressed a lot of people this summer so I think we need to make the most of him next season and play him in his best position before someone else does.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2016 10:47:32
62 - I think he could be disciplined enough while Granit will ensure cover. In the games we are dominant, he could attack more. May be worth a punt especially giving his engine, creativity and shooting boots.

02 Jul 2016 11:09:17
If Arsene does next season what he has in the past playing him on the right in order to accommodate getting his favourite 11 players on the pitch at the same time I think everyone will lose out long term.

Agree2 Disagree0

02 Jul 2016 12:48:18
Until i see any different coq and santi are the best at that role. Xhaka and ramsay for me would slow it down too much and make it even more boring to watch. Until i see xhaka in the prem i will wait for my opinion of him, looked very slow and less than dynamic for swiss but could have been swiss managers fault. I think the midfield is the least of our problems.
