So, a certain tabloid paper (that I really don't trust as far as I can throw it) have said that an Arab Consortium are planning a £1. 5bn bid for Arsenal.

Considering what Ed002 was saying about big changes, anyone think this may be it / have any other info?

I'm curious, but not expectant!

Cheers all,

big game 2moro which we really need to win. the whole team needs to focus and give 100% not just wilshere. Merts can't start against the pace of bale need verm and kos in there. podolski should be on from the start as he can have a big impact on games along with walcott. we need to beat the cocky spurs and get where we belong which is above them COYG

I'd be slightly worried about adebayor tomorrow! I don't mean scoring against us but the guys a fecking liability and he is usually only inches away from really hurting someone when he play against us he s a disgrace with some if his tackling

1) padolski should be given a chance upfront he's left foot is lethal as van persies. he's played out wide all season.

2) arteta should play more attacking someone else should play the holding role

3) kosielny and vermaelen should be given a run of games to play together

4) rosicky should start more games ahead of ramsey and diaby

5) change of formation 4-4-2

Agreed on the Podolski front, he has the 2nd best conversion rate in the league and the goals he has scored tend to be in the 'typical forward' positions, he deserves to be given a run of games up front to see what he can do with more chances

Whoever plays tomorrow I want to see 11 men giving 100% and breathing out their arses to win. Not jack wilshere + 10 cowards giving the ref puppy dog eyes and flapping their arms like schoolkids everytime an opposing player dares to slide tackle them. Which is what usually happens when we play a game of this magnitude

Some of the players being suggested as possible summer buys are just not good enough if we really want to challenge.

with the large amount of players being released this summer, there will need to be replacements for nearly every position. There is obviously money available and a very strong indication that major changes to the way the club operates will mean that we should be looking to buy the following types of players.

GK Begovic/Steklenberg
CB Hummels/Chielini
RB Alves/Richards
DM Bender/Essien
CM Inler/DeRossi
W Bale/DiMaria
CF Cavani/Suarez

I know some are injured and others are not getting game time or are nearing the retirement age. We really should not be demanding or expecting anything less.

I'm sure there will be a lot of disagrees but that's what makes this site great.

Who ever comes in they have to be top tier, nothing less, I might not agree with all your choices but otherwise spot on.

We've done our 8 years of the 4th place trophy. Time to move on.

Begovic
Hummels
Richards
Capoué
Di Maria
Falcao

Could we attract these players without a CL place? That's what concerns me tbh. I know a lot of points to play for, but still. shaky if we're honest.

What is so frustrating is that it's really years of too much quaility leaving for too much mediocrity coming in. Hope we don't the pay prie for that.

337 I think there are plenty of defenders who are huge and fast. But also I think size is only relevant depending on how it's used. E. g. Kompany has the pace to carry his huge frame and make it a plus point rather than being cumbersome. But size isn't the be all - there are so many defenders who are several inches shorter than Mertesacker who out jump him and are far stronger in the air and in the tackle. I am going very high end with this example but Vidic is an example. But not only him - I would pick absolutely all of Man U's CBs over Mert. Evans, Smalling, Jones, Rio and Vidic, any day. They are just all better defenders for this league. In slower leagues perhaps Mert's experience and reading would give him an edge but in this league it doesn't matter if you can't keep up. Michu isn't exactly rapid and he rinsed Mertesacker.

Also, there's slow but manageable e. g. Carragher, Terry, then there's dangerously slow to the point where it's a very easily-exploitable weakness e. g. Mertesacker.

I do really rate his ability to read the game etc and his passing out of defence is always good, but he is constantly shown up by much smaller players and is so ineffective in the air he may as well be 4 ft! I just don't see why any manager would sign a defender with such an obvious weakness and then suggest they are serious about challenging for trophies. We need a far greater improvement on all our defenders in the summer, but it will not happen.

Believable3 Unbelievable9

Mertesacker has been our besy cb this season but I do understand what you are saying. He starts due to kos and tv being very similar. But I think tv will be gone in the summer with amorebieta coming in to replace him. If this does happen then I can see kos starting ahead of mert next year as he will be a more suitable partner for amorebieta who is a beast of a defender. Is tall and not slow and would fit in with our style. Only critisicm I have is he is a red card waiting to happen

Agree3 Disagree2

02 Mar 2013 11:03:33
So that'll be two red cards waiting to happen. Lol.

Agree3 Disagree1

Metal, Seriously? the only Man United defender I would pick before Merts is a fully fit Vidic oh and Rio if he was 5 years younger.

They have only let in 1 or 2 more goals less than us this year and we've been pants!

Just lost all respect for metal. Do you not understand football and why Per is such a good player despite being so slow?
Agree with previous- a fully fit Vidic and that's it these days

i know I posted about this not long but I keep thinking about it and it's doing my head in lol but if we do finish 3rd or 4th and get into champions league wenger will prob think we are good enough considering where we was and where we ended up finishing so won't need much work on the team.
on the other hand if we end up 5th we won't attract any big names anyway.
sorry to bang on but I just keep thinking about it and can't think of an answer

Mark,

It must be doing your head in if you're up at 3am worrying about it.

I'm looking at it like this, whether we make it to the coveted 4th spot may make a bit of difference in the players we can attract but which ever way you look at it Arsenal are a big club. If you were a player you should be able to see with everything in place Arsenal can challenge properly next season. Add to that we are supposed to be changing the wage structure for the better.

The most important thing is that no matter what, we have to have brought in enough quality that we are seriously challenging on all fronts, most importantly the league and whether the 4th trophy is the UCL or the Europa Cup is almost irrelevant for next season.

Just making this poxy 4th place will no longer be acceptable for any fan.

Big changes have been eluded to and the only thing 5th place may change sooner rather than later is the management.

Agree2 Disagree0

Thanks for reply. it is doing my head in mate I just want the big changes to be made for example getting rid of the crap and the players we loan out all the time so we can free up some more wages, arshavin for example is on 90k a week and don't even make the bench, i'll just have to get it out my head till the summer and see what happens there

It's doing everyone's head in reality, a reality that also says they can't do it all in the summer or we won't even have a full squad. Lol.

But they do have to make big in roads. Like you and most of us I'm hanging in there.

Not exactly an post about Arsenal per se, but I'd like to see what the fair minded fans that belong to your great club and institution think about my teams manager which is Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers?
For there life of me I fail to understand some of our fans who either See Rafael plight at Chelsea and think we should think about bringing him back or Kenny Dalglish loyalists who they feel that he sold still be in charge.
Personally I think we've got perfect man in charge In Brendan Rodgers, a young coach who has had his ups and downs before he became Liverpool boss and a few as. Who has a philosophy that involves a possession based, fullbacks bombing forward and being more or less wingbacks, pass and move system with a 433 or 4231 formation.
I know that I'm asking a lot for you to offer an opinion on a manager and team you probably don't often think about, but if really love to know what knowledgeable and fair minded fans you guys and gals are.
Would you guys consider his ideas suitable for Arsenal or are they there kind of tactics suitable for a mid- table side.
Please give an honest opinion if you don't mind, thanks for reading and from the bottom of my heart I hope you do Spurs, bigtime.

BR needs time to make the team his own. Till that time it is good to have one less team competiting for the CL spot.

Agree7 Disagree0

One thing about Rodgers is he is still unproven. And the task he has been given is not short term based.
I'm a fan of his philosophy in how to play the game, but you could do with more flair players. ATM watching Liverpool is like watching England against weaker opposition. Slow tempo plenty of possession but too many sideways passes. I have to admit we (arsenal) have been guilty of that too this season but in wilshere, cazorla, podolski, arteta, Ox we have players who are able to play quick 1 touch passing in tight areas. Where as Liverpool only really have Suarez for that.
But I must also admit one of your better performances were against us and city.
Anyway back to rogers, obviously he could do with better signings, but only time can tell really. Hard to judge now as its too early.

Rodgers is the David Brent of the football world. Every other team laughs at Liverpool, pretty much that simple.

In
Douglas-free
Amorebeita-free
Begovic-10mil
Wanyama-10mil
Isco-20mil
Jovetic-20mil

Believable6 Unbelievable1

I'm 99% certain we won't get any of those.

Amorebeita - another club will outbid us on wages, he is going to get paid some serious money as a free agent. The most likely of the list but only if TV5 leaves.

Begovic - Going to Man Utd. They'll sell DeGea to Real or Barca. We'll stick with WS1 unfortunately

Wanyama - Manchester United or Citeh, perhaps Chavski. We missed our chance last summer. Will be 20m+

Isco - Deal all but done with Chelski.

Jovetic - Will stay in Italy, Juve most likely. Too expensive for us, 25m+

Douglas - will get more money elsewhere, likely to go to Russia
