Hi All
Long time reader not not poster. Thought I would join the long list of Essex based Arsenal fans on the site!

As a starter topic, if a genie gave you a wish that allowed you to have one player from each of the other teams currently making up the top 4, to play for the gunners free of charge, who would you choose?

I think for me it would have to be Hazard, Toure and Suarez. but would love to hear what others think.

{Ed025's Note - take a bit of beating that epping..

Sure, tour and azilpuecutamashpatata or whatever his name is

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry for duplicate eds, autocorrect ruined my last post:

Suarez toure and azilpuecutamashpatata or whatever his name is.

Epping, us Essex boys should stick together so in going for the same 3 you picked.

Good shout mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Welcome on board Epping mate, I'm going for Kompany Sturridge and David Luis just as an alternative because you bagged the bestest already

Right, now I have an idea what we want from the genie, I am off to the garden shed where I will start vigorously rubbing a few lamps. or that's what I will tell the wife anyway!

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't worry 1404 you peaked last week with one of the funniest posts I've ever read, so in my book you can have them 3 mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Welcome EG I'd go yaya, Suarez and Cahill.

Random one here, after Ashley Williams came so close to joining us in the summer and is about to go into the last year of his contract I think he could be a good replacement for Verminator if he leaves?
Oh and the fact that he booted a ball at Van Pussys head makes him an instant Arsenal legend haha

Hi Baz,

Sorry about messing your question up about Chuks yesterday, looks like the hole thread got binned, prob someone calling me a dopey wotsit.

Anyway it was just a joke but on this one it was only rumour that had him close to joining and I don't really see him as a step forward. I've been watching Garay for Benfica in the Europa and he would be a great addition.

Also the saints CB Lovren I think his name is, he would be better than Williams.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha Oh dear didn't even see it my self? Yeah its true not really a step forward but we are going to struggle to get someone better if they are being offered the same game time the Verminator got this year, Williams and Miquel (who has had a good season on loan with Leicester) could cover Merts and Kos. In an ideal world I would say go for Varane!

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi All. frequent reader but never before poster. I voted no as I think Merts has been the most improved player this year.yeah ok so he doesn't have pace. but neither did Adams. At the end of the day Merts influence and organisation skills at the back (very Adams like) is, in my view is the main reason why our goals conceded has improved this year. oh and also I have always Ramsey. even when he was playing poorly. I can't understand how people think a player can come back from serious injury and immediately play at the top of their ability. but I loved the fact that you saw him having a stinker. most players just hide when there out of form. in my view Ramsey showed his true class by refusing to hide during that time, and am glad to see him get the recognition he deserves. anyway initial essay complete!

Agree0 Disagree0

D, oh first ever post and I messed up! I meant to say I always RATED Ramsey. not I always Ramsey.oh we'll back to typing school for me!

I'm shocked at the early results for today's poll, I thought this was a one hundred percenter if ever there was one!
Either people have very short memories or Aaron is so good now he's being taken for granted already.
Amazing to think this time last year few would have shed a tear if he'd been sold and now it would cause a riot, that's some improvement in my book

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Gunner62, I voted no on this just because I think it was really close with Ramsey and Merts. I think Merts have just shaded this one on improvement since last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the big games have shown merts out. his lack of pace has been highlighted too many times.

as great as he is, i'm just not sure he is ideal for those games, feel we need an alternative to partner kos.

Ramsey for me has been our best player, and considering how we wanted him gone last season, is a no brainer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Lakerville, totally agree about the pace or lack of. Like you say in an ideal world we bring in a young quick centre half for play alongside Kos and use Mert as backup. Think the defence as a whole has improved this season as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Dudley mate, Merts is a good shout as he has had a season that's transformed him from carthorse to class act.
But Aaron has gone from can't be doing with to can't do it without, but we're all entitled to our opinions mate and totally respect yours

Agree0 Disagree0

Dudley if you have seen Merts play for Germany or Bremen a few years back he was maybe even playing at a higher level than now so imo Rambo has improved more and Merts just got back to his best! Its debatable though

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I would have thought the shout or shouts would have gone for Kos or Mert to be honest. let's have it right here. They have been like rocks this season. The way they have both come on is incredible. If either one has not been playing we start to look a bit shaky. Aaron has improved, granted, but we have survived without him quite a bit this season whereas I don't know if the situation would have been the same if it were anyone of the other two. So for best improved i'd give it to either one of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Survived what without Aaron Golds? Religation

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunner62. I think I said 'survived quite a bit! without him' mate in other words done ok when he hasn't played too.

Should city beat Everton on Saturday we will have clinched a CL spot with two games to spare! that's progress even if not a giant leap forward.

It looks as though we will need players in the following positions for next season:

1) Goalkeeper
2) Right-back
3) Centre Back
4) Defensive midfield
5) Striker

Assuming Wenger is prepared to spend £40m, plus say £15 million for the sales of Vermaelen, Djourou, etc, who would you sign & state the likely fee.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Begovic
Jung
Kouyate
Bender

Agree0 Disagree0

Ideally or Realistically?
Casillias
Coleman
Hummels
Bender
Cavani
Realistically
Schmeichel
Auerer
Caulker
Schneidelin
Benzema

Agree0 Disagree0

55 mill for 5 players?

That's unrealistic

Agree0 Disagree0

RockyV11 - No its not, as Wenger will look to pick up a couple of players out of contract, such as Kasper Schmichael in goal. So its £55m for 3 players. In any event Wenger simply doesn't spend huge amounts, even last season, we spent £42, 5m on Ozil, Flamini was free & a small compensation fee. However, we sold Gervinho for approx £7m, Mannone approx £2m & Frimpong (undisclosed, say £1m). Which totals approx £10m, so our net spend was approx £33m. Amyone who thinks Wenger will spend big is wrong. I think he will look to sign a keeper on a free, a right back for approx £10m, a centre back for the funds we receive for Vermaelen. A defensive midfield player, such as Bender for £18m & a striker for around £10m. So not a huge outlay.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he plans to go the budget route again then that's what will happen and the fans will be well happy, not.
Things changed at the club when in 1 swoop 42mill was spent.
I don't expect every player to be of equal price but my feeling is we will spend near 100 mill on 5/6 players.

Agree0 Disagree0

RockyV11 - only if Wenger leaves and even then i'm not convinced. I think its wishful thinking on your behalf.
I would love to us spend and buy 5 top notch players, but it simply won't happen. The strong rumours are Schmichael on a free. Josip Drmic for £8m. Bender say £18m. Serge Aurier £10m. No strong rumour to replace Vermaelen if he departs, as I expect him to, but Wenger will spend no more than he receives, say £10-15M.

I'm hearing a lot about Fabregas. Is there any chance of a return to Arsenal?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I cannot answer questions with "any chance" in.}

Hopefully not. He walked out on us, when he had 3 years left on his contract and was captain. The Barca fans have turned against him, as the team has to be modified to fit him in and he lacks pace. We have plenty of players in his position and are more in need of better defensive midfield options, such as Bender & M'Vila, who could replace the slow duo of Arteta & Flamini.

Agree0 Disagree0

You realise that this isn't Fifa? It really doesn't matter whether Cesc is "slow". He could be standing still and he would be class.

Agree0 Disagree0

You would take Mvia over Cesc? Madness. Bender is good and I would sign him but I would get Cesc in and ship of Cazorla myself.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think wenger is going to sell any players, only those that will walk.

we need depth and bringing in bender and josip drmic and hopefully cesc and a striker should be enough to go again next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chess - As a defensive midfield player sitting in front of the back four, of course I would take M'Vila instead of Fabregas. We have Ozil, Wilshere, Cazorla, Rosicky, Oxlade, Ramsey & Abu Diaby who can all play the Fabregas role. Possibly in some cases not as well, but we need to spend in other areas, as we look like needing a keeper, a right back, a centre back, a defensive midfield player & a striker.

We definitely need someone who can really pick out the killer balls. Too many times I'm screaming for our midfield to set someone free when they make a good run only for the ball to go sideways.

It's as if they don't seem brave enough or sure of their ability to try it. We've all seen Cesc and know that he can play those killer through balls. Older and wiser now and scoring more.

I would certainly add that to the mix. You can never have too many good ingrediants.

Couple of questions regarding potential coaches:

1. If De Boer goes to Spurs, do you think we'd offer Bergkamp a placement? Or would he take over at Ajax or join De Boer?

2. When Henry retires, do you think we'll see him return to the club?

3. What are the likes of Pires, Lehman and Adams doing at the moment? And is there a chance of any more legends coming back to the club?

Answers would be appreciated.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

1.) I can see Bergkamp wanting to stay in his current role at Ajax so that he can continue to nurture some of the young talents he is currently working with. In his autobiography he says something along the lines of "I would rather be a coach than a manager" because he feels he's better at coaching 1-on-1 than tactically coaching a whole team.

2.) I'd love to see it, and he's always hinted at it. But I can see him as a possible future pundit as he's intelligent and articulate and would definitely do a better job than Jamie Rednapp!

3.) Not got a clue!
