No sanchez, no ozil, no mbappe, no matuidi, no big names this summer at all. We won't compete and have no ambition to offer anyone. Come to arsenal and get over paid and have a comfy life with no pressure for success, then again it might attract some.

Top players have been giving us a miss for years with champions league on offer so I don't see how this will make any difference.
We have nothing to offer ambiotous players with or without champions league football and until that changes they will continue to go elsewhere regardless of what European competion we're in.

{Ed007's Note - I got suspicious as soon as Leahy mentioned 'my mate' - it couldn't possibly get any more far fetched after that.}

I have 2 mates and a friend.

What happens when we miss out on top four and get smashed by chelsea in the FA cup? Will wenger leave or will we have a massive clear out of the deadwood? So many questions but few answers. Personally i would like us to sell the following players:
Cech
Gabriel
gibbs
monreal
mertsacker
ramsey
coquelin
walcott
giroud

I would also like us to have a new manager. preferrably tuchel or jardim (both will win trophies this season most probably)

I would also like us to have a director of football. monchi would have been excellent but he has already moved to roma. Our scouting network needs to change. We need to change them because we are no longer getting bargain buys. young players with potential.

No point having a clearout if you can't replace what you are getting rid of with better players.

I really don't understand why we are still waiting for Wengers contract to be resolved. He said we would know soon and it is still dragging on and on and on. The only reason I can see for this is its already signed and the Board and Wenger were waiting for some good news before announcing it. There will be No Good News Now so come on tell us what's going on. The only people that want Wenger to stay are the players that will be moved on if we got a new manager. Everyone else is getting dragged down by the day. No other club in the country would get so close to a new season not knowing who will be running the club in a few months. If Wenger stays and I am convinced he is going to next season there will so many protests at matches it will be well beyond embarrassing. Please come on and tell us where we stand.

I thought beating City might be the moment but I guess they are waiting for the close season to make the announcement so the fans have a long time over the summer to calm down and accept the news.
If it was announced before the season ends demonstrations would be extremely likely to follow and pretty well received by the majority of Arsenal fans who have had enough but over the summer a couple of decent signings will be enough to win many back inside and give Arsene some breathing space, until a ball gets kicked in the new season at least :-)

02 May 2017 20:26:38
Seven he hasn't signed anything 100%. Gunner they may think that or not but there will be protests at the ground if he signs any time and probably worse in the summer and more prominent. That won't stop people protests it will inflame them.

02 May 2017 20:57:06
Can't see it myself Steve mate, once the season ends getting people to come together without the focal point of a game will be extremely difficult and any demonstrations would be far less well attended and receive much less media attention too.
The perfect time would be in the summer and that's exactly what I think is going to happen myself, hope not but I think it's the most likely outcome.

If he was leaving, they would have announced a long time ago so that they can find adequate replacements. I am preety certain he will stay. Wenger is the stubborn type.

I had to laugh at ozil been given a drugs test after the spurs game, for what cannabis as he hardly moved. I covered more yards than him In the dance cages' at Stringfellows on Sunday night lol. I'm just glad I don't have to take tests as I would be unemployed years ago.

Sanago is spot on I break necks and cash cheques these days, but I worked for years at British airways, the job was ideal for me as I was always flying more than the planes. But if you lot lost any luggage blame the raver as cargo was my department and I was never in a good state from partying. I remember a couple taking a short break to France and I put their luggage on the new York flight lol.

Anyone think Ozil could make a good deep-lying playmaker? I think with a solid DM partnering him he could be brilliant. Would allow us to play a more energetic CAM + Ozil is way more mobile than Xhaka, as well as having the ability to dribble the ball out of tricky situations.

"Deep lying" as in leave him in the changing room.

Yeah probably.

Not for me no. I honestly believe he misses the easier leagues. And if you put him in Sunderlands team he would have little impact. He thrives on his teams being on top and having the ball.

What we need to do first and foremost is to sort this sorry, sorry state of affairs over Arsenes contract. It has become a joke and quite frankly made us a laughing stock. My gut feeling changes dailly from him signing and then him going. Arsene has spent big money over the last 3 to 4 seasons and we are further away now then we have ever been. He has to be made accountable for this, you cannot blame Kroenke because he gave Wenger the money to allow us to spend big on Ozil, Sanchez, Xhaka, Mustafi, Welbeck, Cech.
His treatment of Perez when he was fit was mystifying and shocking because he poses a threat upfront and has a good footballing brain. Holding who was superb against City must be wondering what he has done wrong and i hope it hasn't knocked his confidence. I am not going to mention all them by name but some of the dross he had bought over the last few years beggars belief considering we are suppose to have one of the best scouting systems in football. I will give you example we go and watch Lyon several times and come back with Gervinho and Chelsea come back with Hazard. I think the Champions league spot has all but gone and quite frankly what's the point from a footballing point of view being in it and embarrassing ourselves. I know we have drawn Barcelona and Bayern a few times but a couple of years back when we drew Monacco who at that time was supposedly the weakest team left we still got knocked out. The premiership was ours to be won last season considering all the other problems the usual suspects were having and we still come up short. We need a new manager who will play our strongest formation which in my opinion is 4-4-2.Man marking defence not zonal,2 good solid midfielders lilke Paddy and Gilberto who can tackle and play a bit (do you remember them Arsene) not like Xhaka and Coquelin who are having a race to see who gets the most yellow and red cards.2 good wingers like Pires and Freddy and 2 strikers and before anyone says it we do have the money it just has to be spent right by a manager who knows what he is doing not by someone who had clearly lost his way and quite frankly cuts a very sad, sorry and lonely figure.
The board even though some are a bit detached from what is happening at the moment are nevertheless intelligent people who must surely be doubting Arsenes ability to turn this around and the only way he can start to do that is by changing and reinventing himself and has i already said he doesn't seem to have the fight in him to do that. I also think the ideal situation for the board is for Arsene to resign because i don't think they are as keen for him to sign as they make out.
Take care people.

Mate I'm going to take you back to the first few sentences and say you 100% can blame Kroenke. What other big club here or abroad would have accepted 2nd place to Leicester City and kept the manager on board. None.

He is doing himself no favours hanging around now, his days are sadly gone and it's just what point Kroenke grows a set and does the right thing.

We are a million percent not getting into the top four. An FA Cup would not even remotely cut it.

Sparky were they all not in some kind of turmoil hence it was lauded as our best chance to win the League and we failed miserably.

Wenger had everything in place, decided to only buy Cech as we allegedly had solutions inside the club.

HG, i don't necessarily agree with the 442 formation, but I 100% agree with signing players who will exactly fit the formation the manager wants to play, whatever that is. We seem to sign players, like Xhaka, and then expect them to play a role or position that doesn't suit them and never has, rather than signing a player who already plays in that position. I believe one of Fergies many strengths at Man U was knowing when he needed to fill a specific position or role and then going out with specific targets in mind, such as getting Van Persie from us, or replacing Stam when many thought he had more time to play at that level. We on the other hand just let players beyond their sell-by date to remain, whilst signing players who we then try and shoe-horn into the team.

Following Liverpool's win last night our slim chances of a top four finish are all but over, bar a miracle. I could envisage us getting ahead of United, but both City and Liverpool have relatively easy run ins and we have some tricky fixtures. An FA Cup win would save our season to a certain extent.
My gut feeling is still that Wenger will depart and turn up at PSG, contrary to press speculation that he will stay for a further couple of years. Arsenal appear to be scouting a director of sport and Wenger will never endorse this as he wants total control.
I hope that Wenger goes as I have lost confidence in him. The fans clearly want change and we need a manager that can steady the ship. I would like to see Allegri at the club, but it sounds like he may sign an extension at Juventus. The summer will be very difficult with main players being sold as their contracts are short and we have to bring in at least 4 or 5 players to replace the departures and try to improve the squad. We can bring back Szczesny at no cost to replace Ospina who may go for £5m. We can bring back Chambers and allow Debuchy and Jenkinson to depart. Mertesacker, Campbell, Sanogo, Monreal and Gibbs should also go. It sounds like we have signed a left back, Kolasinac and we need another as back up. We may have to replace Sanchez, Ozil and Ox. With the right managerial appointment and signings this summer, we still have the nucleous of a decent side. As can be seen from Chelsea's experience, a season out of Europe can be beneficial.

it's horribly ironic that Arsene has always promoted having the clubs best interest at heart and he's always been one to worry about the future yet he may well leave the club with no champions league, with key players running out of contracts and with little time to find a replacement before the start of pre-season and the next transfer window.
