The signings this summer have settled in extremely well.
Ospina - Despite being fairly short for a keeper, he looks quality.
Debauchy - Inspired signing. Such a shame he is injured
Chambers - Awesome signing and uultimately will prove to be a bargain, even at the reported £16m
Sanchez - World class player.
Welbeck - Finally a complete striker. Pace, power, heading ability. He has the lot. a steal at £16m.

Once the injured players return, our squad looks capable of challenging for the top honours. If Wenger signs a top defensive midfield player & central defender, it will complete the squad.

"once the injured players return"

famous words that seem to never lose meaning no matter what the year or month

So down to a few injuries Wenger is FORCED to play with a team in their best positions what most of us have been wanting and saying for many weeks, hence a great result and performance. Easy this managing lark, Wenger glad you got there in the end:)

Just to think he only wanted Welbeck on loan so we would have polished a gem and possible had to give him back to Man utd.

Very true that

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely, with Sanchez and the Ox wide, we looked awesome. I wonder how we will be set out on Sunday?

Good post Shaneyd.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sundays a different kettle of toadstool's, I'd player Mert Chambers and kos in a central 3 with Flamini in front of them.
We have to stop them taring us apart every time they break at speed

Agree0 Disagree0

So no wingbacks to track their wide men?

very tight centrally, and asking the 3 defenders to play a new system with more spaces divided.

why not just play the same back 4 and ask callum to be less attacking?

I met a fairy this morning, who granted me one wish. "I want to live forever." I asked.

The fairy replied, "sorry, i'm not allowed to grant wishes like that."

"Fine, " I said, "I want to die when liverpool next win the league."

"You crafty bugger!" Said te fairy.

Help needed
I'm struggling to find optimistic bones about Sunday and I really want to so please can someone give me logical reason to believe all will be ok?
I'm not asking for guarantees just good solid reasons why we're more capable of coping this year than last.
I desperately want to be excited apposed to fearful so please help if you can.

Not sure if we will be ok - as in Win or maybe even draw

Although I do think we will see a very open game. One thing we have this year is tonnes of pace upfront.

It could be a matter of who scores the most?

It always is rob

I'll try two optimistic bones G62. Surely we can't be as bad as last year, and we won 5-3 when we were quite poor. Maybe poor optimism but?

Hi all

yesterday was a class performance only marred by szecsneys madcap antics and the galatassary fans letting themselves and the team down.

our attacking line of sanchez welbeck ozil and ox was magnificent - cazorla put in a shift and the defence was solid - tbh the turks were abysmal but we still had to do a job. I was pleased as punch for welbeck, he took his goals with composure, and basically stuck two fingers up to the Manchester United boss LVG - what more boost does a player need when your old boss says you ain't good enough, he was strong dynamic and had the Turkish defence bricking themselves, they couldn't handle him. he gives us a much better option than giroud, who is good at holding play, but it is welbecks pace and workrate that would make me pick him everytime over giroud. his comments after the game that he would do everything he could for the team and boss to win was heart - warming to many a fan. ozil was up for it and is relishing his free role, his link up with the brilliant alexis and ox was pleasing. our defence had a night off until szecsney was sent off, but ospina came in and gave wenger something to think about, looked composed and put in a few quality saves.
my only concern is that again flamini got a reckless yellow in our most important positon- defensive mid, he was near the opponents 18 yard area at the time when he should have been covering the back 4. we were playing a team that was basically pants, but he should have shown more discipline, a better team would have countered and we would have been exposed again.

now let's look forward to sunday, we need the same work rate and quality, but more importantly discipline against a team that can counter and pick out passes for fun. we have the pace upfront to frighten anyone including chelski but we have to take control of the midfield and cancel out any link to costa or hazard. whoever plays in the holding role will have to be concentrating for the full 90 minutes, play the holding role and break up the play and keep it simple.
we should not be afraid of the chelski team, i'm sure they will be as concerned as us about the attacking options we also have, but its going to be a case of batten down the hatches and fight for everything.

One thing that struck me last night was the physical development of chambers. To think he's built like that at 19 is extraordinary.
Hes got another 6 years before he reaches his physical prime.

I wouldn't be suprised if he moves into central midfield or even winger ala Bale.

Honestly, I want him as our DM, asap. Even with Debuchy out, I'd have Bellerin in. Bellerin had a tough intro, with no help from Mesut on the right there. With Ozil through the middle and either Ox or Sanchez putting in a shift to cover, Bellerin will shine and Chambers will dominate if given a shot in midfield. Thoughts?

02 Oct 2014 11:49:06
I think he lacks Bale's pace (I could be wrong)

But he sure as hell has an engine on him!
Also, watching his dribbling and distribution he looks like he has a future in midfield - could be the solution, only time will tell!

Let's hope no injuries for the U21 ENG game!

Chambers is a freak of nature.

welbeck looks hencher too. or isit just our new kit :) after all its a lovly top

Chambers will make a great DM once he learns a little more discipline. He's getting too many unecessary cards at the moment as a fullback, he'd get even more as DM. In a year or two though, he'd be fantastic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chambers was an awesome signing. I have a feeling he will ultimiately be a central defender.

I think shift Chambers to CDM next season and have Jenks as cover for Debuchy with Bellerin on loan to a championship team. Then bring in a top CB to push Koscielny and Mertesacker for a starting spot. Someone like Caceres (Juve) Abdennour (Monaco) or Papadopolous (Dortmund) would be ideal.

Our attack and midfield are sorted in my opinion.

A very good performance last night, no doubt about it. Every outfield player did very well, I leave out Szczesny as before the sending off he did pretty much nothing so all he did was get recklessly sent off which was a bit daft. Not seen many mention him so huge plaudits to Cazorla, I thought he was brilliant - he made more interceptions last night than Arteta has all season! Moving forward our frontline has to be Alexis - Welbeck - Ox they were very impressive.

Despite this, I still see us getting thumped on Sunday. I hate to say it but I just cannot be optimistic about an away trip to Chelski. Despite being undefeated in the league, we have not been good, far from it. There were glimpses against Villa and Citeh but largely we've not been great. Tactically last night the Turks were a mess, an utter disaster in fact! Chelsea will set up as they always do and will boss the midfield and I've a disgusting feeling that Fab is going to score, worse yet I think he'll celebrate his goal.

For all the good a win does our weaknesses are still glaringly obvious and someone like Mourinho will prey on this, not to forget how much he hates Arsenal and loves getting one over Wenger as well. Sorry guys but I am not optimistic.

Today's poll " has last night silenced the Arsene critics?
Maybe for 12 hours or so but if he wants some real peace and quite then he needs to stop us getting tanked big style Sunday.
All eyes are on us and him this Sunday and Arsene's ability to prevent his team getting torn apart is very much the focus for media and fans alike.
Get it right and expectations hopes and dreams will be raised 10 fold and the scares of last seasons away day blues will begin to heal, get it very badly wrong again and the doubts about his modern day ability will be at a record high.
Every gooner SHOULD want Arsene Wenger to be talked of as a hero who got his tactics and selection spot on come Sunday night that's for sure

Last night is irrelevant to Arsene's critics, they made their respective minds up long ago.

You either see what's been achieved or you don't, you either want to be like a Manchester United fan or you want to be an Arsenal fan.

Arsene hasn't had the privelidge of being able to spend big and finish building a team in two windows like City and Chelsea have over the last 5 years or more.

He now has a 3 year contract to do just that and if he doesn't want to settle for the Ashley Williams and Cheik Tiote's of this world whilst he waits for the best then that's ok with me.

United have money burning a whole in their pocket yet couldn't get the top quality CB or DM they needed so it's no surprise that we didn't as much as I hoped we would.

We didn't get tonked by City and I'm not sure where this fawning over Chelsea and that clown who manages them has come from.

With a full team out against Sporting they had Willian, Remy and erm, no one on the bench to change a game. That is some strength in depth, not. They have a right back playing left back, a CB playing RB an ageing JT and a not so hot Gary Carthorse in their defence. They can and will be beaten this season.

City will be the real team to beat come May. I want us to win things as much as the next fan, to compete and to be in the mix for everything but the negativity after a few games is crazy but nothing unusual.

Oh and I now see why Carvalho is still playing for Sporting and not us.

Just my humble opinion of course. :-)

Brilliant post, absolutely spot on. I'll put my hand up and say I was banging the Carvalho drum hard. I still think he's a beast, with all the tools we need. I think the transfer saga has affected him is all. Only 21 I think. I couldn't put my underwear on properly at that age. But, I'm very happy he's still at Sporting, hopefully we swoop when his talent shines through consistently.

Very odd.

Touch a little nerve again Chris, you really got to let it go, you seem to have it bad about Welbeck too. He's a gunner now so be happy with you're old guys.

Re the Bradford game, I assume you meant the Cup game, only it reminded me a few things from last season and the beginning of this;

United finish the season with their lowest ever Premier League points tally.
United fail to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 1995.
United's worst home league form for over a decade.
Suffered three defeats in a row for the first time since 2001 this season.
Eliminated in the FA Cup third round - something which happened just once under Ferguson.
First ever home defeat to Swansea.
First home defeat to Newcastle since 1972.
First home defeat to West Brom since 1978.
First league defeat to Stoke since 1984.
First time United conceded a first-minute goal in the Premier League - Dzeko for City.
First time Man City & Liverpool have beaten United home & away since Premier League's inception.
First time Everton, Man City & Liverpool have beaten United home & away since Premier League's inception.
First time Everton have beaten United home and away since 1969-70.
First time Everton & Liverpool have ever done a league double over United in the same season.
First time United have conceded a 3-1 lead.
United fans cringingly fly a banner over the Bernebeu to try and persuade Ronaldo to come home.

Shot yourself in the foot again. Don't know why you keep bothering to be honest.

Extremely odd. :-)

Sorry Jen that reply was mentioned in a retort to stoner not u, I just find all this posturing ''we are arsenal '' tripe quite funny.

Ok Chris no problem, when I said United fans my point wasn't aimed at you but those that have had a need to have everything now because of what went before.

On Welbeck I was pleasantly surprised by him on Wednesday, his swing and miss before Chamberlain scored the previous game was more like the Welbeck I guess we all saw at United.

As a gooner I hope he makes a big hit of himself, the Henry comparison as Gary Neville said was simply the style of finish, he has a long long long way to go to emulate Henry as we all know and love him.

He definately seems to fit in here and when he speaks he seems a great guy. :-)

When u see your striker working as hard as he does u would hope the rest of the team follow suit.

JUst a little repost from earlier in the week from one RR,,, I will say no more ;-))

"I will turn my attention to the blues after the mid week clash. Let's see how the boys do, it may be a momentum builder. Say Ozil to Welbeck get it going for a hat trick of assists to Oz and a hat trick of goals for Welbeck, might just get us going. I am looking to build on the mid week.

Stay tuned!"

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Red it would be brilliant if the Ozbeck twins could manage to produce 8 goals between them on sunday? I know its a lot to ask but a point at the boot sale would be an excellent result for us :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

LOL. I would settle for a parked the bus special, with one scruffy goal from a non-scorer like Flamini or the Kos!

Agree0 Disagree0

Oxbeck twins I like that 😃add Alex to it & we have triplets😃😃😃

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate I'd settle for the most boring game in history where no shots were fired on target by either side and the ref blew his whistle early to save the watching nation from any further punishment.
0 0 would be absolutely fine in my book, a clean sheet away to a big team :-) yes so very please!

Agree0 Disagree0

How about the oxozsancheck quartet saga?
Could they be the next big boy band that's takes us to number one?
Take that could be their motto :-)
IF! They could do that Sunday they could have whatever motto they liked,
sadly carlsberg don't do motto's :-( but if they did :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Add Santi in there & we could get 'em to do a rap dub step up garage etc version of Danny Boy along the lines of The Muppets version (if not seen you tube it work of genius)😄
