Very scary win, a win but slowly Dick is coming round to the problems. Played auba and lacca, now for xhaka, bellerin and cech. Its a slow process but it will happen.

I hope your right, I’m not convinced though

I see Xhaka as a fixture.

It looks that way Banbury mate, it didn't do Arsene any favours making Xhaka an ever present starter bit maybe Dick will be luckier than Arsene was.

02 Sep 2018 19:04:26
I know its my dislike of xhaka (with good reason) but Gouendouzi and torreira just look to have more strings to their bows and look more solid. I will be surprised if cech keeps getting many more chances because he looks so far out of his comfort zone. I don't know what goes on in training but lichsteiner must look better than bellerin, he has definitely won more and at a higher level. I like the variation in our attacks but the defending, at the moment, is not being digested by the players. We just look so open and in disarray, when we are attacked. Xhakas passing in nearly every game, is leading to a goal from the opposition. We had more control of the game today but still looked so shaky by stupid errors, that should be avoidable. The same people are making them too.

I think we are seeing the back 5 as it will be, at least until Kos gets back or someone gets injured or suspended. Cech might look uncomfortable but why make him captain if your unsure of his future, makes no sense to me . He likes Bellerin clearly .

02 Sep 2018 19:32:04
What can we do Steve, I think if we had a posters poll on Xhaka 90% wouldn't put him in their team but it's Dicks opinion that counts and if we are competitive with Xhaka then Dick will get away with picking him but if we're not competive next season then it's Dick who peole will turn on.
Managers have to stand all fall on their decisions long term and if Emery trusts Xhaka to help him keep his job then that's his call and I hope he's proven right too.

02 Sep 2018 19:51:15
Maybe Dick can see a suspension looming for Xhaka and he’s being clever lol.

02 Sep 2018 20:30:04
The question is Banbury mate what does Dick do if Xhaka picks up a 3 game ban and Guendouzi and Torreira are solid as a rock the team picks up 9 points without conceeding? :-)
Wait I guess and sneak him back in If we fail to be City away:-)

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2018 04:13:32
If xhaka survives again then surely there's nothing shifting him and for some reason he's not being judged on performance.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2018 15:31:36
Eden, i think wengers reliance on an ineffective xhaka was a big part of his downfall. I just hope Dick has more about him.

Just shows away games aren’t a given, Spuds 2-1 down at Watford . No one has a right, to win, the stats show we have a win away from home, next please.

What’s happened to The Raver, is he still about?

And Dags?

No away games are easy but we just make them that bit harder. Lol.

02 Sep 2018 18:08:09
How many did we win away last season 2 out of 19? So 1 in 2 this season is pretty good going especially when you consider the away defeat was at Chelsea too.
Obviously I think most people have realised by now Dick doesn't have a magic wand and putting right all our problems in his first summer without a couple of billion to do it with was unrealistic.
There are things about Emery team selections that have lots people puzzled but ultimately the more often he gets a fan pleasing result the less pressure he will get about his strange team selections.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2018 19:25:29
I agree 62, not many away games in the PL where you can go and hammer the home team. is there any . The blessing is we have had two of the bigger boys so early on.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2018 20:41:18
I think so far all results have gone as well as expected because as much as we'd hoped to get something from city and Chelsea away they would have been surprisingly good results for us If we had, but the thing that's really pleasing is we've taken maximum points where expected (even if we haven't looked like world beaters doing it) and that's not always been the case for us.

Well done boys - 3 points

A win's a win - great shout starting Laca and PEA boss

👍.

A win is a win mate but Christ our back for needs some serious overhaul.

I wonder just how long it will be before Leno features in the PL

No doubt he will play against Brentford.

Last game for Cech hopefully.

Xhaka is here to stay.

On Torriera, Emery said:

“He needs to continue working. But it’s very important for me to think about others players, Matteo has started well and Xhaka is very important. ”.

02 Sep 2018 16:48:21
So Cardiff scores no goals coming into this game and could have easily got 4.

My concerns are still defensively ( starting in central midfield ) and Ozil. He’s an enigma this season.

Thought Laca was excellent all round today. Didn’t see much from PEA and he never really puts in a lot of effort to win the ball but what a lovely finish.

The boss is talking about partnerships which I like to hear as our invincibles had partnerships all over the team.

Still a long way to go but a good win.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2018 17:05:57
Clearly Xhaka is a key part of Emery’s plans .

Ozil is still world class we need him, but yes he needs to be more consistent.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2018 17:22:23
Leno surely has to be given his chance Cech did not look comfy one bit. Hopefully Emery's patience with Xakha is also wearing thin. I think Emery needs to decide on one number 10 out of Ozill Miki or Ramsey and play the two up top just ahead of them.

Why was Cech captain, that tells me he’s not being dropped anytime soon.

See people saying go with experience and older players today for security. Seem to recall a certain newly promoted stoke where we changed our team selection to try combat them and we lost 2-1. We should go play our game and not worry about them ‘roughing us up’. 3 points today COYG.

I think Dick will do his own thing and if he wasn't prepared to abandoned his ideas for City and Chelsea i doubt Cardiff will terrify him into doing so.
I think for now he's more interested in installing his phylophy into our players than what the opposition are planning.

02 Sep 2018 15:28:40
G62, did you by any chance mean his filo pastry?

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Sep 2018 15:44:41
:-) I did Sharpie mate, and Dicks been feeding it all to Torreira the man from fray bentos which is why he can't start games in order to allow digestion time.

02 Sep 2018 09:02:02
Team for today
Leno
Mustafi, sok, mav
Bellerin Torreira xhaka monreal
Ozil
Aubameyang Lacazette.

352 is i believe our best formation to get the best out of the current squad we have, can still press and play a high line. Just a lot more cover defensivly when we lose the ball. Going to be a tough game today, Cardiff will be up for an upset.

02 Sep 2018 10:55:20
JG I would play 3 at the back but Dick won't because he's thinking long term greatness rather than short term satisfaction.
Whether he's right or not only time will tell but we have to give him that time to be proven right or wrong, this season is Dicks freebie season where he gets to work out answers to problems, it's next season he really needs to start producing results and start ti show us he's the right man for us.

Good old anti-football Warnock

Neil Warnock hopes his Cardiff side "rough up" Aaron Ramsey

Can't work out why he's not more popular as a manager - really enjoys playing football the right way

Why don't more British managers like Neil and big Sam make it into the big clubs? Baffles me.

It will be interesting to see today's team and tactical selection, bearing in mind the opponents.
It might be an idea to select the more experienced players, as well as those that are mentally and physically tougher.
So:
Cech
Lichtsteiner Mustafi Sokratis Monreal
Torreira Xhaka
Mkhitaryan Ramsey Welbeck
Aubameyang

Against a Warnock team, I fear for the likes of Bellerin, Ozil, Iwobi, etc.

It you want promotion, especially on a budget then Neil Warnock is your man but at premier league level it's a bridge to far for him.

If you want to stay in the premier league only then Sam or Tony are your men to go to.

As for today's team selection, only Xhaka is a certainty to start, there seems no substance known to man, not dynamite not cryptanite and not even fairy liquid extra concentrated capable of shifting him.

I would call Bill Murray, & Dan Aykroyd.

Power, legs and determination at the back and killers up front

Cech
Lichtsteiner Sokratis Mavro ( Mustafi for now )
Bellerin Torreira Matteo Ozil Welbeck ( Kola when fit )
Aubameyang Lacca

👍.
