OZIL

I was hoping Wenger would have rested Ozil rather it being an injury

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Guess it amounts to the same thing really BG, two things I hope for is he comes back rested rearing to go and we don't miss him to much

Agree0 Disagree0

Think it might be a blessing in disguise - we should (hope) be able to cope with the next couple of games without him and he should then be right at his best.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree gents

I really have my doubts whether AW will go out and buy anyone in January. I want to get a feel from fellow gooners what will happen.

Will it be:

a) We sign nobody

b) We get stocking filler type players who won't be automatic first choice

c) We throw caution to the wind and buy at least 1 high caliber player to help us push for the title

I suspect option a is most likely to happen.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Personally, I don't think Wenger will buy anybody.
We all know we are a bit short in attack, but I think Wenger knows he can push Podolski or Walcott upfront in case Giroud is injured/tired/out of form, without sacrificing the midfield too much.
I would love Benzema or Loic Remy in Jan but I know that won't happen, certainly the Remy situation is a no-go, under the agreement of his loan from QPR.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't see any purpose in buying anyone who isn't going to improve the squad - and that's not that easy to do. Almost all of the 'so-called' targets from the last window who we missed out on have not really shown that much (one or two exceptions maybe)

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it will be option B with Betner going, possibly to club we buy from in swap and cash deal. Oh and they get the cash :-)
Just in case you were wondering.

Or long punt Michu

Agree0 Disagree0

Put it this way, in January we were linked with players that, following the signing of Ozil, would not be good enough. The bar has been raised and expectations again too.

I can see Wenger avoided big name signings in January. Especially as most quality players will be cup tied in the champions league etc.

Wenger will then try for a big name striker, left sided attacking winger and or centre back in the summer in my humble opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Morata is the one in Jan as long as we get an option to buy for the summer!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Morata makes sense and is the most likely to happen

I really hope Arsene has kept his cards close to his chest in this window. In the summer I felt it was like every time we went for someone the price went up or some other team swooped in.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree Golds,
Look at the Higuain fiasco. It went from £25m to £35m in the space of a week.

Good post gunner62.

1. Beating spurs at home this season 1.0. Gave us such confidence and reward for all of the improvements and hard work. Giroud came of age in that game too. We outclassed and out battled the spurs who had spent over 100m and they'd been laughing at us pre-season. What a statement and a result that we had to made to kick on to where we are now.
2. Koscielnly. I agree, much improved and world class along with Mert. It's no coincidence that our stats defensively are the best they've been in years.
3.When we lost in March 2-1 away to spurs (despite a good performance and were 7 points behind in 5th/6th. Tough times. but to think how far we have come one the past 9 months is uplifting and i'm smiling now. - Looking forward to facing spurs in the cup yeah!. But Cardiff first. C'mon you Gunners!

Cheers.
p.s. What is Glossophobia?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Leegun, glossophbia is the fear of speaking in public.

Gloss comes from the ancient Greek meaning "tongue" and phobia, or phobis I believe, means fear, hence glossophia is fear of the tongue.

Agree0 Disagree0

DG how do you know this s##t?
Are you sure your not Le prof

Lol, i'm very well educated G62.

evening all,

I was given an Emirates Stadium legends tour for christmas. I have a choice of guides between Charlie George, John Radford, Kenny Samson and Perry Groves. just wondering who people would choose as their tour guide?

happy new years to the edds (and thanks for the site) and to all the gooners on here

cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would go with Charlie George mate. He is a local boy, a real real Arsenal Legend a top goal scorer in his day and plenty of personality. Hope this helps. Have a good time and let me know how it went.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just to add . John Radford was the business in his day too. But Charlie will make you laugh and is approachable.

Agree0 Disagree0

Perry for me, purely because he is from the modern day era be good to get an insight into George Graham

Agree0 Disagree0

Charlie George

If Sammy Nelson was on the list I would have recommended him as he has a lot of character and is a great guy. I thought he did a lot of the hospitality days also.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think they are all great to be honest but yeah I would go for Charlie George, would love to talk to him about that FA Cup final goal against Liverpool, what a scorcher. Love it.

So lads and lasses its nearly 2014 already so what as your?

1 Gunners high light moment 2013
2 Best player 2013
3 Worst gunners memory 2013

For me its

1 Ozil joining us :-) :-) :-) because of his class 1st and for most plus it signalled a major shift in club spending policy

2 Jan to Dec has to be Kos for me

3 Home roasting by Bayern Munich

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good idea g62
For me:
1 The storming end to last season. Our tenacity and togetherness was there for all to see

2 Either Kos or Santi

3 giving Man U the honour guard.

1. Getting 4th as it meant so much for this season

2. Per Mertesacker

3. Seeing Bendtner back in an Arsenal shirt

Agree0 Disagree0

1)Özil, no need to explain

2) big mert, I'm not his biggest fan but I do think he's adapting more and more to the pace of our league.

3)not getting the natural goal scorer, we need to fight giroud for his spot.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post G62.

1) Beating Newcastle away to clinch that 4th spot instead of Spuds.

2) Aaron Ramsey, there has possibly been better players, IE koscielny or Mert, but he has been the most improved.

3) Any defeat

Agree0 Disagree0

Welcome back Jenny Taylor lol

Agree0 Disagree0

1. Finishing 4 last season, and celebrating spursday for one more season
2.BFG, he should be our new club captain
3.for me it would be 3 moments (a) entire summer transfer window before ozil signed and how we missed higuain (b) Villa defeat on the first day of the season, that day I thought this season is going to be like last 2 seasons (c) That Bas*ard RVP scoring against us at old trafford and clebrating the way he celebrated, because I can't stand that guy

Agree0 Disagree0

I really hope Wenger gets us

1.a striker with a rocket of a shot, mad dribbling skillz, Usain Bolt-like pace and the ability to "pull a rabbit out of his hat" during the tough fixtures

2. a left winger who can dribble the opposition, his own team mates, the referee and even the fans

Now that would be one hell of an xmas present from Le Prof

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So you want Thierry Henry ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Hhhmmm, Bendtner springs to mind.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do you want someone when we have Park and Sanogo at our disposal?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Rue is talking about the man with big forehead "GERVINHO", he had lot of pace, was a good dribbler, used to run like chicken . lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Two days to the January transfer window, I really hope we do business early in the window and don't leave it to the last minute. Who do you think we should sign? I think Benzema or Costa would be the best signings. Would there be any other positions you would strengthen? I think that we just need a new striker, not that Giroud is bad but he is just tired and you can really see it when he plays.
Joshuafish :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Josh,

I don't think AM will let Costa go but would love Benzema.

Surely its a excellent reflection on how far Szczesney's come this season that although he has had a couple off oooops moments in the last two games they hardly rate a mention, well until I brought it up that is oooooppps!

Well done him, he has to be up there with Aaron in the competition of our most improved player this season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You just reminded me off the incident yesterday when his clearance hit Ameobi in the head and nearly ricocheted into his goal lol. But totally agree with you, he has been very solid this season

Last night on MOTD Alan shearer said that's the most impressed he'd been with arsenal for digging in and holding on to the result. The way he said it though it was like he was surprised. These clueless pundits clearly don't watch many arsenal games because from the bayern munich win onwards we've held on for a ton of games and shut teams out. I mean if he loved that he might wanna go watch the Dortmund away match or countless other matches last season.

Rant over!

.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree. Shearer is just a total cliche, everything he says is stuff he's heard other people say months ago, complete w@nk as a pundit. All of motds analysis was complete horse Sh!t yesterday. Would rather they just showed the highlights and a few replays, forget about the analysis bow locks because they're terrible at it

Agree0 Disagree0

Says a lot about MOTD now days that we have to have a bad day to get praise.
Motty as host and just show the games and post match interviews says me

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe he watched the Everton game.

So a few stats for Weds game against Cardiff. They have conceded the third highest amount of goals in the league. They have the second lowest number of goals scored, behind Palace and they come to the Emirates with a poor away record.

I would really refresh the team and have them ready to batter Spurs in the cup. They travel to Manchester United and will need to play a full strength team. There won't be many opportunities to rest players from now on and I really, really want to hand spurs a battering!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think its about time we gave someone a 5-0 spanking and with Cardiff the state they're in that's the score I'll be putting on my coupon

Agree0 Disagree0

We usually spank one team 6 or 7 nil in a season and i'd love it to be a very happy New Year's Day hangover cure!

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on, you guys are getting greedy. All we should care about is 3 points.

Of course, I would prefer to beat Spurs 5-0 (even if it is just an FA Cup tie).

Also, I have nothing against Cardiff (they sold us Ramsey after all) and Cardiff have enough trouble with their owner and the sacking of their manager.

A comfortable 2-0 would be just fine (plus we cannot discount the fact that they have done well (albeit at home) against City and Utd.). let's just not be complacent and play some good football. We need to just keeping winning all the games we should win (as long as we match our rivals results we cannot be caught).

Sidebar - imagine changing our kit colour to blue (cardiff blue to red) because it would sell better on another continent. Poor Cardiff!

So, that said just a comfortable home win, no injuries, another clean sheet, and remaining top of the table.

(starting 2014 at the top [. ] what a great way to start the year)

Well if you needed any confirmation of how the written press fall to their knees and bend over In acceptance at anything Mourinho decides to say or do, then this morning you have it. If after the game yesterday Wenger had come out with the same sort of guff that Moroninho did he would be completely castigated by the press. Be it from me to defend an ex Tottenham manager, but if AVB had said the same things as his fellow portuguese compatriot did after the game then the likes of Neil Ashton, (journalist for the daily fail) would of dedicated a 12 page spread with the one intention to ridicule.
I have no doubt that Mourinho s**ts gold nuggets and can cure the blind, (when he's not trying to gouge someones eye out), but let's have critique that is objective and not based on whose farts smell the nicest.
Flybo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So true spot on. He is adored by the English press and can do no wrong, the "special one" is untouchable- makes me sick.

Anyone know why Ozil was left at home?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah he had a poorly shoulder, poor sausage.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi BG, looks like a shoulder injury that could keep him out a couple of weeks

Agree0 Disagree0

The official line that came out of the club was "illness". However I reckon Wenger has just given him a much needed breather.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shoulder injury substained in the West Ham game. TV5 was also missing with illness, but he should be available for the Cardiff game. Ozil however, he'll be out for 2-3 games.

Just what we needed. To finish the first half of the season top club in the country. Now we can honestly attract some top players that we need in January. I agree Giroud got some real stick yesterday but marched on the Cardiff game should be a good one to rest him.

Thankfully we have come through a rough period of games, both in terms of number and quality of opposition, relatively unscathed.

To kick on I do think we need to make an acquisition or two to set us up for the run in. For me the goal keepers and defence (Mertesacker = legend) is fine. Up front we do need one more body Lewandowski, Berbatov, Benteke, Dzeko, Lambert or Anelka may be solutions given the way Arsene seems to want to play.

I think we may see another defensive midfielder come in and Gustavo at Wolfsburg may be the logical choice. For me Arteta has done the job asked of him when signed, but has now become an increasing liability. He is very very slow, gives away far too many free kicks, especially in dangerous areas, and seems to disrupt the flow of our football. Flamini should be our first choice defensive midfielder, he play better with him instead of or along with Arteta.

COYG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't know what you are smoking have you seen some of Gustavo's performances this season? And Berbatov and Anelka? Why oh why would we get them in?
