I was going to buy a season ticket this season,
after long negotiations and a price hike I have pulled out the deal,
biggest shower of fraudsters about the arsenal board

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was going to buy a shirt from the shop. I have offered 25 and I will not go higher.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal was going to buy higuian but Madrid hiked the price up. I bet your a fan who complains about things like that we didn't sign him for the extra few mill. different when its your own money

Hey Ed, do you see anything happening in the next week with the suarez saga? It does appear that his talks with Rodgers didn't go well or we would have heard something about it from Rodgers through the media. It just seems a little too quite right now--that's not to say I don't expect anything to happen, however, it does seem a but weird given Gazidis' announcements at the beginning of the summer that noone has a clue what is going on.

HooverGooner {Ed027's Note - we are happy to wait, I don't expect anything soon

Looks like Suarez is another Arshavin waiting to happened. With Suarez being banned for the start of the season, I can see this transfer going to the last day and even the final hours of the transfer window. I think Wenger will now concentrate on getting he's players fit for the champions leauge qualifiers and worry about transfers after we qualify.

bored again nothing happening so I was wondering who is the main man doing our transfer dealings is it wenger or is it a person higher in the club if it is wenger who has the ultimate say then maybe now things are going to speed up now the tour is over, fingers crossed anyway.

just watched sky preview for upcoming season with a panel of persons all saying effectively we have no chance just can't figure out why we are hated we play arguably the best football but it isn't appreciated by any of them. would love to shove it down there throats if we prove them wrong without signings I can't see it happening.

Lucas would be maybe our 5th best midfielder, at best

Jack, Rambo, Cazorla, Arteta, Rosicky, Diaby when healthy

What am I missing? 25m for what exactly?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lucas would be a good option to play alongside Arteta in front of the back four. I would like to see a midfield trio of Ox, Wilshere & Cazorla. With Walcott and Podolski wide.

This was a response to rumor of first page about the Suarez Lucas combo

Ed027 are arsenal lining up another bid for suarez like media are saying or is it just media nonsense? {Ed027's Note - Arsenal are playing a waiting game

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What are we waiting for exactly?

Agree0 Disagree0

This release clause issue to be sorted. The dispute is that we are a CL team who have met a £40m buy-out whilst LFC are not a CL team - but LFC dispute that we are.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but we finished top 4 not 5th, and the game we have on 21/22 august is a CL-competition game. LFC are playing delaying tactics by taking it to some dispute board claiming that we aren't in the champs league.

My personal take on that is they're full of 'stuff'. It's a CL fixture. At the time of bid, we're in the competition to some degree, and LFC aren't. I don't see how they can dispute it. Are we at the time of bid? Yes. If we get knocked out, we'll still have been a CL team at the time of bid.

Agree0 Disagree0

Silly from their point of view. They obviously want Madrid to come in which won't happen until right at the last minute anyway as they'll keep trying to get Bale up until the deadline.

Even if Madrid do come in, they'll only have to pay the same as our current bid anyway as they are a UCL team, no doubt.

PLus if Madrid came in really late as would be the case it leaves Liverpool with little to no time to replace him, and the turmoil would happen after the season has begun. Very short sighted of them.

At the moment we can afford to wait. We have the money ready, for WHEN we qualify. Come on, do they really expect us to lose?

We submit our bid again on the 27th/28th August and BAM! No choice but to accept.

They are being stubborn for pretty much no reason other than to look good to their fans, but how irked will they be when we or RM come in at the last minute and Liverpool have no time to buy a quality replacement?

Stupid, imo.

I think the Best Transfer, Arsenal could have this season, is for Arsene to get Sacked and G Hiddink, To Be our next Manager.
I have lost faith in Arsene, who seems content to finish 4th and no higher and the Current board, who seem content to run my club like a bank.
I personally think Arsene, has lost he`s ability to win a trophy, and I personally think, him and Gazidis are playing Arsenal supporters as fools.
The reason I say this, is because, we are 4/5 players short, and all we have got to show for it, is a free transfer that was going to quit, cause he was injured all the time. And Arsene telling us that we don`t need anyone, if he really thinks that, he is a bigger fool than he already is.

The biggest mistake we done last year was to finish 4th, personally I wanted to finish below that, cause it would paper over the cracks. And the way Wenger/Gazidis are going about there business the cracks are well and truly showing.

I personally think we need a Goalkeeper, a Defensive Midfield, A Striker, not much, but them players must be Top Quality, £10 million players would not cut it, we need class. I Also feel we need someone even more important, someone we haven't had since Vieira left, A CAPTAIN, sorry anyone else after him was not a captain, but a black mail threat, not to quit, none were a captain, sorry not TH14, not RVP, not even Fabregas and not even Vermalean. Maybe Kos would be better?

Yeah I know were going for L Suarez but even he is a wrong choice, we should have got Higuain, OK Suarez is a better goal scorer but that`s all, He Don`t really want to Play for us, Higuain did, He`s trouble, end of. Do we really want a Player that WILL disrupt our team, Again like Gallas? I don`t, Higuain is A Model Professional, and not bad at Scoring, plus he would have cost about £20 million less, Money that could have been spent on other areas to strengthen.

If Suarez comes, he won`t stay for long maybe 1/2 seasons, no more.
Arsene missed out on 2 goalkeepers that would have been ideal, in Swarzer? and Reina, older keepers who Shez would have learned from, OK we still maybe get Ceaser, but we will see, I personally see Noone of note, maybe a few panic buys near the end.
Gazidis, I have to hand it to him, He really does earn every bit of he`s wages, No he does, For the last 3/4 seasons he fools us Arsenal supporters in thinking were going to sign big name players and fools Arsenal supporters to part with their hard earned cash and buy a season ticket, " we could sigh Rooney, if we wanted to, and pay he`s wages" Don't Make me Laugh, Gazidis, From what I heard you couldn't pay Arteta`s wages, and if it`s true Ceaser wages as well.
I'm not optimistic at all this Season, as you can tell, but see iv`e supported Arsenal for 40 odd years, and the last 6/7 years my Football club has gone from a club that wanted to win thing`s, to a club that thinks 4th, is good enough, That my friends is NOT good enough, And don`t tell me " well look at all the clubs who are owned by billionaire owners, who are spending, like money is grown on trees " yeah and look at all the manager`s who still try to win things, like B Dortmund, Like Wigan, etc, etc.
So Sorry, Wenger, Thanks but your time is up, Time to get another, There's 2 at the moment, i'd want J Klopp or G Hiddink.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just another non-arsenal, anonymous, poster who wants to sow seeds of disaster.

Does anyone even remotely believe that Arsene and the board are not ambitious for trophies. Does anyone really think that buying half the worlds population of people who can kick a ball is the right way for AFC to move forward.
Do people actually think it's easy to just wander down to the shops and buy 50 million worth of top player?

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't want to get all negative like this poster but it is really, really stupid and surprised our great editors even let in slide by. Our hottest commodity - even hotter that JW, Cazzie or the Kos is our beloved manager. Sure it would be nice for him to pull the trigger but only because he will have surrounded Suarex (could have been Higuain) with a solid foundation for them to excel. The program is strong. the last 10% is the hardest. COYG

This post like similar ones before show a complete lack of understanding of what the club has achieved, what Wenger has achieved under a certain set of retrictions and where we now stand.

Made worse because you have had forty years of following this great club yet still not having a clue of the above.

A truly pi55 poor post that has been regurgitated on here numerous times by people of a similar lack of understanding.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with the original post. People disagreeing are just deluded "I'm a proper loyal Arsenal fan"
Get over yourselves. 2 ways to look at things. Post 2006 and the stadium u can say Wenger did great we got top 4 every season losing some top players on the way. 2006 we were 1 of the top 2 teams in the prem and 1 of the most feared teams in Europe. You could have taken the Dein model and with outside investment smashed everyone, including Ch else's and Man city. They were always playing catchup

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh you are so right. this season is shaping up a disaster waiting to happen, no buys 14+out and spurs before window closes. I for one will be hoping he moves in the market soon or moves out. Ps US oldies know what we are talking about, we can't all be wrong. No one is bigger than my club. no one

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't understand the skepticism or the negative speculation before our season year after year. How can we judge how certain players will perform before the start of a season? Henry was relatively unknown before we bought him. And he had an awesome few seasons before he became a legend. Why do we believe that a player like podolski or giroud will turn out the same? If you understand football, you will definitely know that they are both technically sound players. Yet we question them. RVP had one great season and yet he's better than these 2 players who have been injury free all through their careers. Wenger knows football better than all of us here combined. With his experience, if he hasn't bought players know its probably for a reason. I really don't believe he's running around like a headless chicken trying to sign players to please fans which he could probably do with the money we have today. So be patient and support your club because you are a fan of their brand of football. Not because you are a fan of the star players in the team.

The obvious solution would be the owner, board and chief executive to demand their employee does what they have requested, no one is bigger than our club. We are looking ridiculous, 20 day to the new season, 1kid in 14 out, and utter silence from everyone at the club. gadizis you are in charge of this sort it out.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Here's hoping brother!

Agree0 Disagree0

But our board are not going to do that, they are reaping lots of cash, bought into this club that Wenger has got i, until the day Wenger don`t make money for Arsenal, then that`s the day he will get sacked. Until then I say to all Arsenal supporters is Do Not buy the Products at the ground or the shop, That`s the only way. And hey, Miracles may happen still, Wenger may buy in 3/4 class players before the Transfer window ends, But Form tells me, That`s not ever going to happen
AndyS

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you saying their employee (assume you mean AW) is not doing what they asked? I would think they asked him for a list of all the players he wants in and all those he wants out. the buying and selli ng is not done by Arsene at a boot fair it's done by a whole team of people.

Its great getting rid of the Deadwood. But at the end of the day, if we are not going to replace it with anything apart from youthful prospects we are are just going around in Circles. Yes the odd talent becomes a star. But most of the time we end up releasing them or they get sold to bigger clubs. We need to replace the Deadwood with at least experienced players who know the game. I'd rather keep Gervinho then let a reserve team player get a chance. Yeah, I know what I just said, the guys not great, but he's confident and he's got experience. I'd even go as far as saying i'd rather sign PETER CROUCH upfront then let Akpon play there straight away. We won't go anywhere if we keep to our habits we need to break them.

Also, I don't get the logic in Wenger saying we have a squad that can challenge for titles (Regardless of signings) when nothing has been done to it, whilst other teams have strengthened. City, though I disagree with their values have showed that they spent in the right places to improve and won the title. The last window they spent next to nothing, in comparison to before, and look what happened? United brought RVP, what they needed to win! I'd rather we have a transfer window like last year, buying 3 good quality players where we needed them most. We need a DM, get two for heavens sake and get captain glasslegs (Diaby) out of the squad. We can't have bit part players like that. And saying we don't need a new CB because Sagna can play there is just not good enough.

The club is built on good values, of which I support. However when they make stupid choices like this, it frustrates me. Big deals take time, I know. But this isn't us making big deals happen, this is us doing nothing and showing no intent, bidding 40,000, 001 for a player worth 50,000,000 is trying to make your fans believe your trying to do something. BID THE EXTRA 10M! simple.

Sorry about the rant, but this is just my view as a concerned gooner. regardless if we sign someone, we have to stay true to the team, and support.

P. s Those who are planning on booing Higuain at the Emirates cup this weekend. WTH? It's not his fault our club did not match his transfer fee.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we Gooners have got every reason to be concerned about the lack of incoming transfer activity and the apparent lack of concern of AW and IG. I totally agree that we need 4 QUALITY PLAYERS added to the squad, but once again when it comes down to it we are not prepared to go the extra mile. Le Grove website was saying that Sat could be uncomfortable for AW if especially Higuain puts on a stellar show. I thougt that we would make a marquee signing as a sign of intent that we mean business, but once again AW and co show that the fans feelings and concerns mean nothing to them. I can see another trophy less season with us somewhere between 6th to 8th spot. A couple of weeks ago Arteta and Jack were saying how the players were buzzing looking forward to the new quality arrivals, but now nothing, perhaps they know something we don't no. I firmly believe that is not the board but AW himself that puts the brakes on these big signings and nothing will change while AW is manager of our club. You can gloss it up all you like but 8 yrs and counting, buying crap like Santos, Chamakh, Squillacci, Gervinho, Bendtner, etc an d getting paid 147k a week is in my opinion just not good enough.
Thanks for the site Ed

3 things I've read today;

Bentner could be sold to Malaga. Arsenal and Malaga are supposedly in talks now. Fingers crossed.

Gervinho is on the verge of signing for Roma.

And finally, as Valencia will likely be losing Soldado, they are looking at Giroud as a replacement. A season loan has apparently been turned down, so a bid for Giroud could be on its way.

Would you allow an estate agent to show people around a house that's worth 500k but the agent is telling the buyer is on the market for 100k. Sorry I didn't word this well. but what i'm trying to say is don't allow a clause of 40m to talk to player. but have no intention of selling for less than 50m. Pep Guardiola is well respected in football, I would imagine his brother is no fool. If it does happen then 40m + 1 pound is the price. unless there is a champions league clause which is being contested because we are in the qualifying stage only. Guess work only from my behalf km

If you take into account likely departures, we have 19 senior pros, including youngsters, such as Ox, Jenkinson & Sonago. We desperately need at least 4, ideally 5 experienced players. It is extremely worrying. We need a 4th CB, ideally 2 defensive midfield players, a wide left player & a striker.

Bit of fun!
With talk of Real interested in buying Baboon boy for a kertrillion squillion quid, here's a question for you.

If Henry, Bergkamp, Viera, and let's say Adams were in their prime now, and Real wanted them. What fee would they command?
Flybo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Based on Wengers valuations & Gazidis's negotiating skills abount £1. 50 each

Agree0 Disagree0

If, say, PSG, R Madrid and Man City went head to head, I'd expect Henry to fetch £100m+, Bergkamp £70m+, Vieira £60m+, and Adams £40m.

Obviously comparing directly with the Bale fee being touted, then I expect Henry £300m, Bergkamp £250m, Vieira £180m, and Adams £100m, haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

On todays prices, if they were in their prime?

hmm I'll give it a go.

Henry would have to 50-60mil
bergkamp 30-40 mil
viera 30-40 mil
adams 25mil

Agree0 Disagree0

Ohhhh, I like this.

Well, seen as Henry was as good as, if not better than Falcao and Cavani, then Henry would fetch £45-50m easy.

Bergkamp, well, priceless, but easily better than James Rodriguez or Suarez, so around the £40m mark.

Fernandinho just went for £30m, so Viera would HAVE to be £35-44m

And Adams, well Pepe is valued at £15m at 30, and he's not even THAT good.
So £25-30 for Tony!

All guesses though!

D

Agree0 Disagree0

In today's market (compared to player today, in their prime)

Henry 100-110 m (Ronaldo)

Bergkamp 60-80m (Iniesta)

Vieira 50m (Schweini or Yaya)

Adams 20-30m depends on how desperate a team is, better player to assess would be:

Sol 35-40m (Vidic)

Let me add

Seaman 25-35m (Cech)

Lets not forget, those were the days of 2 teams competing, both were essentially all-star teams

ManU and Arsenal consisted of some of the best players the PL has or will ever see

It would be like valuing Madrid and Barca players today

Agree0 Disagree0

Henry - £150m
bergkamp - £120m
viera - £90m
adams - £90m

tobias

Agree0 Disagree0

Henry and Bergkamp were both better than Bale is, so around £140m each if Real are willing to pay that for Bale.

Adams would go for around the fee that Thiago Silva went for. Can't remember off the top of my head.

Viera I would say around the price Vidal would command if not more.

Agree0 Disagree0

If were going off how much bale is going, considering bale has won eff all, never played in the champions league, couldn't even get spurs in the top 4 last season and never played at a major international tournament then these 4 would be much higher priced then him!

Thierry Henry- 170 million
Dennis Bergkamp- 170 million
Patrick Vieira- 140 million
Tony Adams- 150 million

Considering what they've done, won, record broken and collected these 4 are easily worth into the hundred millions in relation to how much bales worth apparently!

Gooner red

Agree0 Disagree0

Henry - £100m+: In his prime he is twice the player Bale is and would go for a fortune.

Bergkamp - £60m: Closest example is maybe Suarez today? Not to disrepect God of course. He just isn't the goalscorer that commands the Henryesque fees.

Vieira - £30m: Yaya Toure sort of cash.

Adams - £25m: Defenders are cheaper.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would rather have Henry and Bergkamp than Bale so if he's valued at 85m then TH 110m and DB 100m. Viera 40m and Adams 25m. How much for eboue?

Agree0 Disagree0

Henry 120million
Bergkamp 90million

is the jesus gamez swap for bentner reliable?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Oh God I hope so. Means we can get rid of our prized pr*ck and we can move Sagna to CB. {Ed027's Note - i have heard this rumours too, I hope it happens, Gamez is an improvement on Sagna at right back, it gives Jenko a few more years to develop and learn. Whilst Sagna can be our 4th choice centre back, where he has excelled recently, saying that he be our utility man, as he can play left back too

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd say so but who knows? I think Malaga showed a real interest earlier in the summer but wages were an issue. Given that Wenger seems to be trying to keep Sagna happy with game time as a CB while Jenko breaks through, but perhaps seeing Jenko is not where we need him to be for him to take over from Sagna yet, this could well be on the cards. They get their forward and we get a RB, nice work. Would like to see it happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

That swap deal if true, is a very good move for us, I thought the great Dane would have no takers.

I doubt it'll be a straight swap at all, I think we will just try and use TGSTEL as a make-weight and pay almost nothing for Gamez, maybe a couple of mil. Just my guess.

LOL I do think he's good enough but he needs the coaching. He's all the talent and is just left to his own devices on the pitch. Looked more impressive playing as a deep mid in the pivot than he does pushing forward. Dribbles til he loses it. Needs coaching.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not so much that Jack is over rated, its that he has not improved, recently he looks to have gone backwards. He definitely doesn't look like the player that went toe to toe with Iniesta and Xavi.
That said, he has had a couple of serious injuries, he hasn't been as good, don't kid yourself, but neither should we have expected him to be.
With this pre season under his belt I can see Jack really stepping up this season, he has doubters, its up to him to prove them wrong, he definitely has the potential to be one of the best in the world.

I only put my opinion on here and not rumours, but I do believe that to be true. hence the Reina rumour has common Theme. km {Ed027's Note - Wenger wasn't sure on Mata, Mata wanted the move, everyone wanted the move. Bentner could be sold to Malaga. Arsenal and Malaga are supposedly in talks now. Fingers crossed.

Gervinho is on the verge of signing for Roma.

I just got to go out and say this, it's been on my mind for quite some time now. It's not Arsenal related but I got to take it off my chest. I believe that Gareth Bale is heavily overrated and overpriced.

Since last season was so tight I had to watch quite a few spurs games and in all of them Bale was non existent until he scored a goal in the dying minutes and all the headlines would be like: "Amazing Bale to the rescue", "World class Bale sinks*whoever*", "Bale Bale Bale blah blah blah". Yes he's got a shot on him, but he's not that good as the media makes of him.

And to see Real offering Tottenham 100 million for him leaves me gutted, when we got 25 million for the traitor and he's a far better player than Bale.

That being said I would like to ask you guys would you prefer if Bale stayed at spurs for another year or they got 100 million + Coentrao (or Di Maria)?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm not sure about Coentrao, but di maria has already said he's not going anywhere, at the least he wants to play with a club in the cl.

I get your point though- he has great moments, but can be quiet at the other times.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ooh, what a tough question!

Right, firstly I never wish bad upon any player but:

Ideal situation would be Bale to stay at Spurs and pick up an injury which would keep him out for next season, hence de-valuing him.

Again, not career threatening though even with him being a Spud.

337

Agree0 Disagree0

Would rather they kept bale than got the cash to strengthen. undoubtedly a great player but rate him alongside rvp, saurez, aguero rather than ronaldo and messi. I think anything over the money cavani went for is absurd and would make levy the greatest negotiator of all time if he got 80m for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2013 14:38:16
Agree but I think behind the scene at Madrid, Ronaldo is entering his last two years of contract. This is when the club and agent start to talk. wouldn't surprise me if he wants out to maybe PSG. His present contract is 9m euros per year which is much lower that a lot of players who are not half as good as him. Torres, hazard, Rooney and yaya to name a few. Maybe its wise buying monkey head before they get a kings ransom for the second best player in the world. Also Madrid hate to be shown up by Barca who have got Naymar on board. Maybe Ronaldo has told them he will not sign a new contract so they are being very proactive km

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd rather Bale stayed than Spurs getting a lot more than he's actually worth.

Agree0 Disagree0

I kind of agree with you, last season Bale was non-existent a lot until he scored, but most of the time the goals were superb and they often won games. My feeling is that he was more devastating on the wing, running full backs all the way and putting one hell of a cross in. Remember the Inter Milan game, he destroyed them. As a CF for me, he doesn't have the same impact (other than scoring from outside the box). The simple fact remains though, opposition are terrified of him. I do think he has ridiculous talent, the mans a beast, but 100 mil is way too much. Ronaldo is and always has been better, and he didn't go for that.

To answer the other question, I would rather they sell Bale and get Di Maria and Coentrao. Di Maria is good, but he isn't going to score like Bale, and who knows he could be the new Gervinho and struggle to adapt lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd just like to see spurs fans that pissed off

Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

Would prefer if bale stayed, enjoy watching him in the PL, even if its just the highlights that you've mentioned.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bale is worth 45 million maxium
i very much doubt madrid are willing to pay double that and I believe he will stay at spurs

watford gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

This deal isn't just for his on-field talents but also commercially (i. e shirts).

Very interesting to know if selling Bale would equate to Sp*rs go splashing out big on other players and strengthening the team, but TBH are there any other big-name players out there and would they be prepared to play in the Europa League. They actually don't have many weaknesses (apart from strikers) but by losing Bale, they lose their major strength. He has carried Sp*rs on his own and so his loss will be huge, no matter what money they get for him.

In the middle of the park with freedom and space to roam he has flourished. If I was the coach of the team playing against him I would tell my players to force him on his right foot as much as possible. not that simple I know, but look at the goal against sunderland on the last game of the season. the defender offered him on the inside on to his left foot. bang. goal. yes he has great pace and balance but never allow a player room on his good foot. We made some bad errors when they beat us. Played our defensive line too high up the pitch which allowed him space to get in behind us. Vermaelen had a nightmare and was dropped. Then we went on a great run where we defended better as a team. Both full backs got good protection from our wide players. For the first time in years we defended as a team. By playing Arsharvin on the left and expect him to cover his left back is not his game. the same thing with podolski. he is not a left winger or left midfielder. he is a left sided forward. Arsharvin was not a left sided midfielder/winger. he was a number 10. who played between the midfield and forward like Bergkamp del piero or zola. I think Wenger ruined him, shame his confidence was shot to pieces. what do you think Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2013 13:03:30
Don't you think it's ironic, when Wenger arrived I 96 he was so innovative and ahead of everyone else. In terms of scouting, diet training etc.
Now his biggest downfall is, he simply never evolved. Ferguson did. Ok his circumstances were different. I wouldn't expect the same success as Utd, but you do wonder we could have done a lot better.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Alas, he did evolve, from a manager that won things using a fluid 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 formation, with a nucleus of tall athletic players, into a team of dwarfs with little protection for back four and a formation that hasn't brought a single trophy. With Dein departing, Wenger instigated his 'socialist' wage policy, which has created a problem selling overpaid, under-achieving players. Look at the summer so far, one purchase, an injury prone 20 year old.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it is more the case that everyone else caught up, the problem with AW is he try's to do everything at the club and is not willing to let anyone else do their job.

The difference with SAF is that he let a very highly paid team of experts concentrate on diets, sports science, fitness etc. and concentrated on the football.

Man utd never had to relocate to a new stadium. We had to buy very expensive piece of land and relocate the companies who were based there. Arsenal spent 50m pounds on legal fees, relocation of refuge site and environmental studies before a brick was laid at the emirates. Old Trafford has been extended but remains a s*** hole. You will know that if you've been there. Man city got a brand new stadium courteously of the tax payer (commonwealth games). Chelsea on the verge of bankruptcy before the Russian came along. Liverpool who was financed by the Moores family for years. That without taking into account the special relationship Madrid have with the government of Spain. All this aside, I think David Deins vision for Arsenal was the real ambition regarding signing of players. Campbell, overmars, platt and Bergkamp. Wenger seems to think fourth place is like winning silverware, its not, Other than the financial rewards. He seemed to hind behind the excuse of not having money to compete with the successful teams, but the next 25 or so days may change one way or another. Can you see Wenger pay 24m for a 29 year old as well as 10m per year. Passion aside, if we don't buy 3 quality players, then there is no way we will finish in the top 3 and will not challenge for the title. Conversely, a top draw forward, defensive midfielder and maybe keeper and a back up central defender could put us up there. km

This is the first time I write on the site, but have followed the site on a long time. I do not have any rumors. But I would like your opinion on a few things.

1. I have no doubt that Luis Suarez is a fantastic footballer. I am also an Ajax fan, so I followed him for a very long time. But I'm not sure that it is right to spend so much money on him. If I had to choose I would rather see if we could get Romelu Lukaku for the same money. I know that it is not exactly popular, but he's a player I think there will be less problems with and have a greater potential than Suarez. On a good team he will be able to score as many goals as Suarez. It's wishful thinking, I know. But I do not believe that the attack is where our biggest problem is.

2. Why are there not been bought a quality player for the defensive midfielder yet? It is quite obvious that this is where the problem is. I do not care if it's Lars Bender, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Joshua Guilavogu or Marouane Fellaini. As long as we get a player into, that can go in and win the ball and stop the opponents play. We are too vulnerable centrally on the field and it costs cheap goals. This is where we need to strengthen ourselves first. Then we can look at the attackers afterwards.

3. I still believe that we need a coach who can go in and take control of the team's tactical position both when we do not have the ball, but especially when we have the ball. The team can not position itself properly in the event that they lose the ball. They often play kamakazi football and they do not consider what the consequences are if they all run forward. The defense was better towards the end of last season, but we must not let ourselves be fooled by it. The defense is weak. They are easily injured. So there is a need for at least the defense more. Preferably someone who can play across the board. It could be Mamadou Sakho who can play both in central defense and left back or Mattia De Sciglio who can play back on both sides.

You here simply just a hesitant person who just dithers. You are tight and have a value in your head and won't exceed it. You are so belligerent that you want swim against the media tide. All your best signings weren't that expensive. Your intentions are right but like I said before, you dither and go through a scatter gun process not concentrating on 1 signing thus leaving the door open for others. Or you simply don't have same pulling power, you had before. Sprinkle with that, a blind over confidence and attachment to your current squad.

Alternatively the inept board kept giving you more power, to the point where you micro-manage every aspect of the club - and you can not bear to give up a single task or have your power questioned. Delegation is a lack of control as you see it, thus every aspect of player wages, contracts and negotiations must be done by you. You stubbornly hold to your own pet players and projects, despite all evidence they are failing, and refuse to listen to any advice.
You're right, there will be no change at Arsenal under Wenger, and the sooner he is gone the better - and not "upstairs" either as he'd be constantly interferring in the new managers business.

Ah, the genius Wenger. The professor. Le Prof. What devious scheme is he plotting this time. A cheeky bid here, a five year plan there. Hasn't he been busy - unloading all the mistakes of the previous years. Master of the 4th place scrape, King of the cock-up. Selling RVP last year (to MU ffs)- pots of cash this year! Cannot believe the amateurish cash-flow of this tin-pot operation. In fact I refuse to believe we needed the money for RvP so bad. Wenger the great Svengali. Making money for the board whilst keeping the fans in a constant state of hope & expectation (it's the hope that kills us tho) paying the highest prices in the country! Creating a brand of football that is slowly deteriorating in quality but still manages to be, at times, beautiful - but without managing to challenge at the top. Passing about on the edge of the penalty area but rarely managing to penetrate. Oh Wenger, the wondrous Illusionist, defended to the hilt by gullible believers. The loyal band of followers that will cry out "he's a spud" or "Troll" in response to this post. Please Mr Wenger, let us see up your sleeve, beyond the cuff of your wizards cloak. The original AG

Agree0 Disagree0

If he tells the fans what's up his sleeve he'll be simultaneously telling every club what's up there. What would be the point in that?

Has Wenger got a lot wrong? Absolutely, no disagreements here, but to say that moving to the emirates, remaining in the champions league which in turn provides mega-bucks sponsorships which we're now starting to bear the fruits from, and more set to come has set the club up for the next 100 years. All this done without being bankrolled by a sugardaddy, and without having the commercial clout of a Manchester united. This is many things. "Tin-pot operation" it is not.

However, if after the window has closed (over a month left to go) we haven't made the transfers needed, then you had sent in this post, it would have had far more gravitas.

We've been patient for 8 years. 4 more weeks isn't going to kill us. And if your proven right (more than possible) then I like you by the sound of it will be on this sight voicing our disgust.

Until then, if the best way to get the deals that we want done is to keep quiet and keep it up your sleeve, cuff, wizards cloak, big f**k off winter coat with a faulty zip, then shove it as far up there as possible.

Wenger, Ivan and the whole club will be judged by all come the end of the window. There's no point in it being any sooner.

Jack Wiltshire was very lazy in the last game, i'm not a fan of him when it comes to tracking back, he just doodles back and doesn't make an effort to challenge the player who is just about to shoot. don't get me wrong he is very good going foward but needs to up his game when we are under attack and stay on his feet more.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think you are being a bit harsh, when fully fit he tracks back and puts everything into every game I just think he wasn't fit towards the end of the season so couldn't run up and down the pitch

Agree0 Disagree0

In one game, in pre season, where he admits he's unfit, you slate him?!
Christ almighty, Wilshere didn't score last game either, he can't be good enough going forward.

Listen, mate, Wilshere puts 110% into EVERY match he plays for us, chases every loose ball, follows every pass, tracks every run, tries to make amends for any mistake.
None of our CM's actually defend, even Arteta who's dropped deeper now, is more in the Pirlo role.

I can't see how you can slate Wilshere at all.
It's crazy, he's as close to perfect a player we have right now.

I do apologise for having a moan, as we're all entitled to a full opinion, but that was an infuriating post!

D

Agree0 Disagree0

In his defence it was a friendly and the main objective is match fitness. However, I believe he is best played ahead of 2 defensive midfield players, in a more offensive position. He also must learn to play on his feet and stop diving into reckless challenges, which no doubt have caused or at least added to his injury problems. I would like to see us sign Fellaini to play alongside Arteta in the defensive midfield role. We could then use Frimpong and Ramsey as cover. In the more offensive midfield positions, we have Cazorla, Wilshere & Ox, with Rosicky & possibly Eisfeld to come in.

Agree0 Disagree0

When jack is match fit and fully match fit he puts blood and sweat in to the red shirt of arsenal. He does track back and can handle himself aswell, xavi and inestia said he jack was of the best young midfielders they have played against and I carnt wait to see jack and the boys on sat

Would anyone else take Fernando Torres on a season loan? This way we could sign him permanently if he regains his Liverpool form and if he's crap we won't have that problem the season after.

If Torres can regain his Liverpool form in an Arsenal shirt, we will without a doubt be contenders for the title.
An inform Torres is the best striker in the league, and possibly one of the best in the world.
Obviously he isn't playing like he used to, but if he can find his Liverpool form.

With Demba Ba very much likely to go to West Ham, it would mean that their only strikers could be Lukaku and Torres (can't really class Schurlle as an out-and-out striker). Actually very surprised Chelsea have not gone in for a striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

When Torres was great, he was flipping brilliant. I remember him terrorising Vidic, seemed the only striker able to do so.

Something to consider though, is Torres a great world beating striker currently playing way off form? Or was he always an average striker that exceeded his basic talent for a few years?

Despite this, I would take him yes, because I feel he needs another shot at a different club and I would hate to see him go somewhere else and become great again.

Walcott wanted to go last year unless he was played through the middle, If Wenger is going for Suarez and Giroud as our main point of attack he clearly doesn't fancy Walcott through the middle therefore rather than be in the same situation next season with an unhappy player wanting to leave because he isn't being played where he was assured he would use Walcott to get the player you want and give the Ox more game time because he won't develop by sitting on the bench. just in the same way that Walcott hasn't developed into the player everyone expected him to.

Now in the past I have been accused of being an Arsene apologist - actually I never felt the need to apologise for the greatest manager in our history. But as I keep pointing out while he has done a great job he has worrying blind spots.

So yes he would say the current team can challenge for trophies. But it's just stupid. It can't. We know it can't and I would hope he does too, if he doesn't then oh god prepare for life to get worse yet.

Spurs have already invest big and sensibly. They will sell Bale for massive money, more than we got for RVP, Thieery, Cesc and Nasri combined! So they'll strengthen yet further. City have already sent big. Chelski will sign Rooney I suspect but their squad looks pretty good anyway. Oh and United who finished a few points above us will sign Modric post Bale, not their top targets but realistic and an improvement to their squad.

Arsenal? Well now all our eggs are in one very volatile basket. Will he join us? Maybe but only I suspect at the last moment, you might argue it doesn't matter as he's suspended through to September anyway.

So whether he joins us or not I suspect our exciting big money summer transfer window will mean come the opening day the exciting new team will be: Szczesny, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Sagna, Gibbs, Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshere, Cazorla, Walcott, and Griroud.

I can hardly wait to see all those big names we all so frantically speculated on start, to be there when. oh bugger. Same old same old summer. Never mind we'll have a massive budget for the window window once we are out of the ECL and struggling in fifth or sixth.

P. s. I still think Arsene has been our greatest manager ever, I just wish for once he would break that mould.

Striker Targets:

Luis Suarez- Wenger said he will not pay any higher than £40 million.

Gonzalo Higuain- Sold to Napoli.

Yaya Sanogo- Signed

Bernard- Wenger and Bernard denied that he was going to join the Gunners.

Midfield Targets:

Lars Bender- About three months ago Wenger said he would bid for him and he did it was rejected.

Geoffrey Kondogbia- Wenger is very keen on this player and he looks really good on Youtube.

Clement Grenier- Bid rejected, keen interest.

Defensive Targets:

Ashley Williams- We need a defender because Vermalen and Koscielny are injured.

Goalkeeper Targets:

Julio Cesar- Doesn't cost much can mentor Fabianski and Scszeny (Spelling).

arsene wenger renew his interest in wayne rooney. a arsenal insider said that wenger is about to make a final bid for suarez of around 41 to 42 mil. should liverpool reject it, he would not think twice on bidding it on rooney. of which he has a 90% of it being accepted (ARSENAL INFORMATE)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We're not bidding more than£40m+£1 because we don't need to, all involved at LFC believe his clause allows him to come

What if spurs is holding bale's sale in order to madrid take away suarez from us?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As much as us and them hate one another, I'm pretty sure you can rest easy on that not being the case friendo!

This is the one thing I "admire" about them, they have a player, on a long term deal, with a few years to run.
He's clearly their star player, and even the most deluded spud would admit without him, they'd of been down a fair few places in the table!
So they don't need to sell him, and keeping him does more benefit than selling.

However, if these ridiculous reports of Madrid offering around €83m AND a player for bale, then someone needs to have a word with Perez.

D

Agree0 Disagree0

That would be taking sabotage to a whole new level!

Agree0 Disagree0

I see your thinking- but RM won't make a move for suarez until they have exhausted the possibility of signing bale.

Delaying it, if anything plays into arsenal's hands.

But the way things are looking, it looks like bale will be going, so.

It is 5am. I have been up trawling the site and thinking bout my beloved Gunners for the last 45mins.

I think we desperately need a keeper and, accepting it's not our biggest priority atm, I cannot even begin to fathom why on earth Cesar was not signed and unveiled on day dot!

Wages? Price? Agents Fees? Image tossing rights?

Absolutely NO excuse and it leads to my concerns with all our other "activity".

On a more positive note, I will say that I think Sanogo will be blinding. If we ended up having to play him more than we plan to with a CF coming in (and it doesn't happen) then I strongly believe he will pull a Ba / Benteke and smash em in out the gate!

Add that to Giroud's form, Poldi's return to fitness and Theo's unsung heroism (better stats than Bale FFS).

Couple that with the quality displayed in our defence on the run in.

Throw in the return of Jack.

Sprinkle some other shining new youngsters getting a couple of games here or there; Akpom, Gnabry, Bellarin, Zelalem, etc.

There would still be hope!

Fingers crossed either way, just don't be too surprised if the above does happen but remember it would STILL be our STRONGEST starting position for YEARS!

COYG!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Post a link showing theo and bales stats not saying I don't belive u but would like to see it

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance does theo have better stats

Agree0 Disagree0

Last season in the premier league Bale scored 1 goal every 1. 57 matches, and 1 assist every 8 matches.
Theo scored 1 goal every 2. 29 matches and 1 assist every 3. 2 matches.
Technically Theo contributed a premier league goal more often than Bale did. That said, Bale is obviously the better player, stats don't tell the whole story.
Going off of that though, Bale is no where near worth £50million and Di Maria and Coentrao as has been discussed. I would much rather Bale stays then Spurs sign Soldado, Coentrao, Di Maria and spend the £50million on top to add to the signings of Paulinho and Chadli. They will without a doubt have a better team than us.
At the moment it looks all doom and gloom for us, no top signings, and little hope of a top signing at this point. But at least there is progress, I for one would rather see Gnabry and Myaichi playing as opposed to Gervinho or Miguel as opposed to Squillaci.
These players have potential, its better than watching the same old players, lacking skill and not improving. That said, our team definitely needs improvement, this squad will definitely struggle for top four due to Tottenham having improved while our squad has been weakened.

Agree0 Disagree0

At a guess i'd say that probably Theo has had more goals and assists in his career.

Ed027 I really appreciate your work. you are spot on in case of players leaving you have said 10 playrs will leave and 13 have left. but you said 4 or 5 to join us but only 1 has come. do you think we will sign 2 to 3 players before transfer window closes? thanx {Ed027's Note - Hi mate during the course of the window, I changed my opinion. I said we would no longer sign a Cb, but it is possible a right-back may sign, Jesus Gamez is a name being thrown about. I was more or less certain a Gk would come but Wenger has let people know he is happy with what he has got and he will only get one if there is a 'top class' one available. I still expect a central midfielder to arrive whether it's holding or not, I expect this to be a big signing. I still expect a forward to come in, also a big name. The or 5 was a winger, but in a recent post I said we have a lot of people who can play on the wing. So I expect 2, that is definite, it could well be 5, with a Gk, defender and a winger, but Wenger is being Wenger in the last 3 positions, Sagna staying is something we never expected, he will now cover Cb, whether Wenger buys a replacement for him at Rb is another thing. Wenger wants to strengthen the striking position and the midfield, that is 99% going to happen}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I feel it would be complete madness if we go into the season without buying a CB either Rami or Williams seem favourites. With TV injured how can you just have PM and LK what happens if 1 or both get injured? madness.

Alright then chaps it's time to be realistic. Last season for many of our faults I believe we have a midfield that could compete consistently on a weekly basis against the top teams around the globe. Defensively there were obvious frailties but as the season came to a close we all saw the potential for a solid and dynamic back four! However did we have a player that the opposition would think 'wow whatever we do we will struggle to handle this lad' For his faults Luis Suarez brings this and probably up their with the trickiest to contain. This type of player can play terrible for 89 minutes and out of nothing GOAL. ready to capitalise on any defensive mistake, for all his effort does Giroud do this? simple honest answer is no!

Now again, I know people complain about the lack of a tough defensive midfielder, but did we lose to United, Chelsea and City because of that? IMO no. Though it would improve us a cdm will not win us a trophy. Signing a player like Suarez does. and IF that means no defensive mid are we really that bothered? We are a keeper and and world class striker away from the league!
MBGOONER

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry but I disagree totally. Our midfield is good but far from great. Wilshere and Cazorla are class, Arteta has been excellent but is so not a CDM, and Ramsey remains a light weight - don't be fooled by a game or two in pre season. There is no drive, no box to box, no forcing the game when it is going against you, no presence to bring fear, and when Jack gets injured it's all down to Cazorla.

Bayern and Dortmund showed what a real balanced midfield looks like and can do. With one high class addition we could compete at that level. Without it we are poorly balanced and simply cannot compete even with a UnIted side struggling with it's midfield.

We have class, we have potential but we lack balance, and balance wins trophies as much as game changers.

Jackson Martinez agent is in napoli to try and broker a deal to take him from porto.

This is a player we should have looked at. He is an absolute beast. an athletic specimen.

He is going to cost anyone on the cheapest end of the scale 30 mill and at the most 35mill, considering Porto want 40mill euros.

The options we have if we fail with Suarez.

Luis Muriel ( plays like the old ronaldo ) raw talent.
Erik Lamela ( amazing player)
Jackson Martinez ( cha cha cha )
Stephan El Shaarawy

Im not sure if we are going to buy a DM. Looks like Rambo and wilshere will play there rotating with Arteta. maybe a disaster if one gets injured.

we are thin at the back. With Adil rami costing 7. 75 million, I don't see why we are not in for a CB.

GK? why did we not go for Pepe Reina. liverpool would have bitten our hands off at 10mill.

Are we going to buy a gervinho replacement? or is podolski the LW, with Ryo/ Cazorla backing that slot while Walcott is the RW with Ox/ Cazorla taking over in his absence?

Looks like Rosicky, Wilshere, Rambo, Arteta will have a lot going for them this season in midfield.

Lets hope we can get some business done soon.

atleast the CB, GK ( if at all ) a midfielder ( pref holding) and a Striker/ Winger.

3 weeks for the season to kick off.

A couple of thoughts on the suarez situation.

People are saying we need a world class striker, yes that is true. We do need a world class cf. But not any world class cf. There is different types of strikers just as it is different types of midfielders and defenders. Different players posses different qualities.

Yes, Higuain is a world class striker, but maybe not exactly what we need. He is a extremley composed finisher who can convert almost every opportunity into a goal. BUT, he can not create an opportunity out of nothing. And that is exactly what we need. Those players are extremly rear, and therefore extremley valueable. Suarez is that kind of player. Lots of pace, always a good chance of him getting past his man, and even a couple more, just to put the ball in the net.

Wenger probalby saw some of the same qualities in Gervinho a couple of years ago, but he is not the same class. Suarez has prooven he can play every defence in the PL, and that's worth paying 50mil for.

I think the reason why Wenger "passed" on Higuain is Girouds recent form. Showing he possess the same qualities as Higuain, in converting chances to goals and therefore Higuain was not needed.

I excpect the Suarez deal to go through, but on what time I don't have a clue. Having a player who wants to leave is difficult and could destroy the team spirit, I think BR knows this and just tries to squeeze out as much cash as possible.

We'll see. Realy hope this deal goes through.

How the bloody hell would anyone not want Suarez at our club? That guys is a footballing genius and would make any defender in the world $h*t his pants. Yes he does have some baggage, but Arsene can put a leash on him I believe. He has pace, guile and a never say die attitue. Currently do we have anyone better than him at CF? No we don't. Would he improve the team? Definitely!

Arsenal is a footballing club, not a "finishing school" or monastery. The most important thing is talent, not manners. If we keep him ban free, he will be epic!

Hey Eds was just wondering if there was any news of us looking at Viktor Fischer of Ajax, amazing prospect with a good record and could be special, plus he is a boyhood arsenal fan, as well as the fact he plays on the left naturally could be a very astute signing
-{Ed027's Note - not much interest in him mate. imo we need a winger, but this will be Wenger's thinking, I can almost guarantee it, there is Poldi for the left and Theo for the right, Ox can play on both sides, Santi can also play wide, Wenger has hinted Ryo will stay, he can play on both sides, then there is Gnabry who is similar to the Ox. That's 6 players that can play on the wing, if Suarez does sign then he can also play there. So I don't expect a winger to sign. (just thought i'll let you know about my thoughts about the winger situation), i'm also happy with this, Ox gets more games, and we get to see more of Ryo and Gnabry. But I do think someone like Suarez is essential as his versatility in the attacking positions would be an amazing asset to have}-

All those saying "patience, deals take time" may I remind you we are still short of a keeper, a defender, a midfielder, a winger and a striker.
Oh and our pre season is just about finished.

Yes we finished the season strong but we need to improve and strengthen in order to kick on this season. It seems the club have put all their eggs in one basket with this Suarez business, if that falls through we are in trouble.

"i want to do our deals early" what a crock of $h!t.

There has been no coherent plan to this summer and its plain to see. Were in for Fellaini, then hmmm maybe not. Throw in our obligatory annual bid for Bender to get slapped away then not do ANYTHING. Were in for Higuain, then Rm say no we want what he's worth, not 9m less, we pull out.

We know Shezz isn't quite ready, we know Cesar is ready and avail for about £3m tops, Ffs what is stopping us from signing him?

People this is incompetence boardering on farce.

We can all identify players readily available, playing at inferior clubs whose owners are aggressively trying to sell who would improve us in key areas.

Everyone on this site I'm sure has spent 70m in their head and at the end got a squad that looks $hit hot ready to compete. I may be trivializing the work involved in buying a player buy other clubs seem to manage it pretty easily, so why are we, with.

- cl football
- history, prestige and world wide following
