Calum Chambers as a DM?

Worth a punt?

No way, David Jason is the one and only Danger mouse, end of!

30 Jul 2014 23:07:17
Hehe nice one.

OK, Calum Chambers as Penfold?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Isn't Stephen Fry the new Dangermouse? They are making new episodes of it....

31 Jul 2014 02:22:03
I wouldn't know Ed, I'm an adult.

You should try it one day, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I did try it... once - that was ample, you're starting to sound like my babysitter!}

31 Jul 2014 09:04:41
Lol, sorry Ed.

Now go to your room.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - now he is sulking! Still, at least we will all get some peace for a while, cheers Dags.}

Thats excellent news 007 but not sure about the Stephen Fry bit!
But if it's a quarter as good as the old series I'll be pleased to have it back.
Good grief DM :-)

Khedira or carvalho which one?

Both very good. Think I'd go for experience and say khedira.

What a shame, would have loved to have seen lukaku in an arenal shirt!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not for £28M though

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - everton got him for the same money they got fellaini for poly...not a bad swap in my opinion mate..

30 Jul 2014 21:19:18
I see Sami Khedira is still being talked about, Bayern keen on the midfielder but want him on a free next year Madrid very keen to off load him. I think we are still very much in with a shout. Patience is the key it seems

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we are too. I think the Carvalho link is paper talk. Coincidence that when the Carvalho link appears within days it's being suggested that khedira has lowered wage demands.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jul 2014 22:53:19
There was a lot of Schneiderlin talk, that went off the boil, than Carvalho popped up.

Maybe it's just a smokescreen, or is that what Wilshere uses when he's having a sneaky fag?

Will be chuffed with Khedira.

Oh No!

Arsenal Football Club have lost a High Court challenge over the number of concerts that they can hold at Emirates Stadium.

The Premier League side had applied to double the number of music concerts held at the stadium in Holloway, north London, from three to six.

Do you see Arsenal spending any more money until Vermaelen's future is sorted out? Also sorry for advertising but I made my own Arsenal blog as you in all your beauty inspired me. Here it is, if you want to have a look. gunnerzworld.

Everyone deserves a holiday - there are legal requirements plus FIFA rules
If they don't rest then they get injured later in the season.

They earn a lot of money - yes but they deserve it because the industry can afford it. Until you boycott the ground/ sky TV and bt sport. It's not their fault and they are still humans at the end of the day.

If we can't cope against PalAce with a few people missing then we have bigger problems.

Ed 01 or 02 wondering if you could help clear up this Schneiderlin fiasco. Reported that Spurs were very close to agreeing deal but then Saints chairman says they aren't leaving. Schneiderlin has now handed in a transfer request per ssn and obviously has the ump yesterday with his tweet.

However, hasn't Levy been reluctant to splash the cash this window, will they give up the "reported" 27m fee that the Saints want for him? Despite Schneiderlin wanting to go, the Saints want just sell him for nothing.

Is this any chance Wenger could still go after Schneiderlin after he has asked to leave or has the price completely put Wenger off?

Thanks

May be some movement on the Carvalho front this week as Sporting are prepared to let him go for a quick sale to fund other transfers.
Fits the bill perfectly as the DM we still badly need.

I feel Dags has let us down a bit lately, talking about how he tells jokes rather than actually telling them. Never fear, I'm hearing to fill the void with my truly terrible ones!

Two nuns from Ireland come to tour New York City. Before they come, they hear that Americans eat dogs, so they both agree to try it when they arrive. As they're walking around New York, they hear, "Hot Dogs! Get your hot dogs!" They rush over to get one! As the first nun opens hers, her face turns white and she gasps, "What part did you get?!"

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Jul 2014 16:54:44
Skippy, that was seriously terrible, my crown remains in one piece, unlike your joke book, which should be in a thousand pieces.

Why Irish? Nuns are meant to represent innocence so Irish is meant to represent stupidity no?

How about a joke where Australian represents incest!!?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jul 2014 12:38:33
Woah Sheeny, ease up mate. I say Irish because there are lots of Catholic people from there, they speak English and it's probable for Irish Nuns to visit New York as there's a strong Irish representation there. Far out mate, a bit harsh, I'd never cheat on my kangaroo, no matter how hot my sister is!

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jul 2014 12:41:30
Or it could just be a joke, with nothing being represented whatsoever. But, whatever gets your knickers in a knot princess.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2014 01:28:12
It's a racist stereotype that has been perpetuated for 100s of years, which among other slurs where propagated as a means of diminishing Irish war efforts when seeking foreign aids.

A mantel which was again taken up during mass emigration to the United states as a means of disbarring newly landed immigrants from opportunists of integration and force them to join the unionist army as cannon fodder alongside slaves.

Its not so much that my knickers are in a twist outback. I replied to the post initially twice saying simply "why Irish?" in an attempt to approach the conversation diplomatically. Either they didn't go through or the eds decided not to post it in case it would incite an argument. To wit I made a statement that wasn't likely to be ignored.

People wouldn't accept Jewish, Black or any other more "conventional" racial digs so its only right IMO that I voice my displeasure.

And I understand the difference between racism and racial humor and I understand that you prob weren't looking to have a dig at anyone Irish it's just the typical Paddy Irishman joke.

And I hadn't intended to post so aggressively.
Rather my initial intention was to communicate the 100s of years of discrimination that has culminated in such statements being brushed aside so flippantly.

Which I'm not particularly hurt by or take personally but am truly disgusted by in a broader scope given that our rich and varied heritage is relegated to a falsified punchline.

In any regard I've said my peace and withdraw my earlier comment and apologise.

If we don't sign a dm, then I have a feeling Wenger wants to go with a 4.4.2 formation this season with Sanchez and og12 upfront. And maybe he could use a diamond formation with ozil, wilshere, Ramsey and arteta in midfield. And if it doesn't work out we could buy a cdm in January and change back to 4.2.3.1. Just a thought.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Interesting thought, haven't thought about the 442 much its rarely used at the moment. If we played a 442 we'd have so little midfield cover our full backs would have to sit really deep, don't know how it'd work with Ozil & Ramsey central together unless Ozil went at Left Midfield. can't see it working, I think 433 is more likely

Agree0 Disagree0

In this diamond formation the full backs would get forward more.

would they leave us open to the counter attack, yes. but per and kos were ample defensively, only lacking on a little support with positioning and 3 v 2's.

IF we sign that top class cdm, then they would hold back and come back to help cover and defend.

at least in the diamond formation mentioned by G4L.

at times if we are dominating we could have 7 players attacking, with 3 sitting back to stop the counter.

2 wingers that are ample crossers.

3 attacking midfielders with a knack for close passing.

and the forward options are great too.
in more physical games maybe giroud and sanogo play together and we can sit back and go route one.

if we need pace, walcott and sanchez.
there are plenty of choices that we can tactically adapt.

Anyone thing Torres would be worth a punt? Yes he is losing his pace. Yes his finishing is laughable. Yes his confidence is shot. However, as a squad player, with Prem and Champ Lge experience would he be worth a cheeky bid?

is anyone else slightly apprehensive about drogba being back? despite his age he has an unhealthy knack of scoring against us. that being said and despite the despicable club he plays for and his diving antics I do love him as a human being, if some English players did half as much good for our country as he does for his it would change my whole view on them, sadly I can't see rooney building a hospital, not when hookers are a much more valuable use of his money

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I watched him at the WC, looked slow and old. Don't fear him at all

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree on all that. Good post.

Drogbas one of the best players to have graced the Prem.

30 Jul 2014 10:35:57
The man was a beast.

Bit of a pussycat now but still a good player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Depends how they use him. He's not going to be a regular starter.
I'm not convinced about Costa at Chelsea but have that feeling drogba could still come off the bench and pop in a last minute equaliser against us at there place.
Will he have an edge over our defenders like he has before probably not as much. But some players just love to play against certain teams.

Just me thinking out loud.

Been reading about the Reus story, and also the Jack wilshere to be our DM story.

So where do I start.

Arteta, Flamini, Diaby the 3 players who play that position for us are in the last year of their contract. So we have two options.

1) we actually play Jack at DM and extend Flamini for cover

2) Wenger will buy a DM this year knowing full well that trying to buy a DM, when you have none will be ever more of a pinch on the wallet. and probably pick up another DM next year or keep one of our current 3 to cover the new DM.

now onto the reus theory.

Poldi, Santi, Rosicky, walcott the 4 wingers you can say next summer enter their final year. Poldi and rosicky are already Subs and Cazorla is joining them slowly. If we hand Theo a contract and he signs then this conundrum maybe a bit easier, but I have a feeling Theo will have to prove this year he deserves any pay rise, failing to do that he will be handed the same contract, which he will refuse to sign and eventually a replacement will be needed.

If reus stays with dortmund for another year, and we have managed to sign Khedira or Lars bender this year, I would fancy our chances of capturing the player. However i'm also aware that Bayern will want to revitalise their aged duo of Ribery and Robben, so that seems like a likely possibility.

but i'm sure Wenger will have that Reus interest followed up, and with Rosicky as his Idol, it may not seem as far fetched as it seems right now.

however considering we have spent nearly 70 mill this transfer window, why not go a little crazy and splash another 40-50 mill and try for Reus?

Perhaps wenger can then stick with Wilshere as DM, and I don't think a single Arsenal fan would complain about it. Obviously Dortmund have other plans

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think the whole "drama" regarding the DM role may work out in our favour. With Khedira seeminly pinned on for so long, attention was moved elsewhere when his wages became an issue. Other targets been inquired about would soften Khedira up if we were to go in again for him, lowering the wage demand and hopefully the transfer value if Real want to get rid of him.

This would free up more money for Reus to come in.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is majorly far-fetched that we were to obtain both players. But not impossible.
