Ozil has been poor surprised he's not been subbed dose bit seem the same player he was at Madrid maybe he needs an extended break when he's back

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Or maybe he just scored the game winning goal for Germany.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was really poor though Stefan.

He,

a) Needs a rest. Played 90 mins in nearly every game he played. Never did that for Madrid.

b) Was played on the left all night. Play him No.10 and then you'll see the best of him. Was always rubbish when played wide for Madrid and us.

Agree0 Disagree0

What does it say about Özil when he plays poorly and out of position and is still one of the key players in Germany's attacking third? He was dangerous against Portugal and I have a feeling next season when he's in his favorable position and has quality attackers to target he will prove his quality once again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Germany have the balance to their team all wrong.

They should have:
Neuer;
Boateng, Per, Hummels, Lahm;
Khedira, Kroos;
Goetze, Ozil, Draxler;
Mueller.

To play the best full back in the world at CM when you have no other full backs is bordering on crazy!

Agree0 Disagree0

Just because he scored the winning goal Dosent mean he played good he was bullied of the ball on numerous occasions his passing was poor and has not really impressed me so far I feel for carzola he was doing a better job before ozil turned up

Many names being thrown around, I think some on here forget who opens the Arsenal wallet. . . Mr Wenger. We already have two NEW signings .Walcott and Campbell, that doesn't leave many left .trust me

Having seen your pic Banbury you cannot be described as a weedy little fella so without being rude I'm going to trust you about as far as I could throw you. Lol.

Arsene's wallet will be wide open :-)

I do Banbury, never felt so good about a summer window, sorry to be so positive but can't see it being anything other than really good signings.

We are done with the penny pinching.

Now for gods sake Arsene don't let me down! Lol. :-)

I'm not going to be drawn into the hope that this is going to be a good window for us, I've done that the last couple years. tbh the fact Cesc is wearing blue next season ha ruined it already.

Let's face it, it's just not Wengers style to go mad is it, love your optimism though Jen.

I'm with you on this Jenny. For all we know the announcements might start tonight :)

hey people! assuming you're as worried as the rest of us waiting on some transfer news, i've got a couple of questions that've been burning a hole in my head that i'd like to put out there -

1) considering the state of the squad last season we all knew that signings were needed - both, in terms of numbers and quality. we failed to add substantially in the January window and now we've let go off Sagna, Fabianski, Lord Bendtner, Park, Djourou, Kallstrom and Viviano. Coquelin looks to be heading out. Cazorla and Vermaelen are on the fence. Nacho and Poldi seem to be expendable options but certainly not pushing for moves themselves. Then we have our permanent LANS (like a new signing) crew of Diaby and Miyaichi accompanied by this season's fillers in the form of Walcott, Ox, Gnabry and Wilshere. Moreover, Arteta and Rosicky aren't getting any younger and Jenko, Sanogo, Zalalem and the newer reserves coming through haven't got enough experience between them to lay stake to a place.

Looking at it realistically, we haven't got enough players in the squad to survive a season let alone push on from the FA Cup triumph (still feels just like yesterday, don't it?).
And this isn't even about reaching out for the quality we've been lacking over the past few years. We're barely making up for numbers here.

What i'm wondering here is, does anyone really expect Wenger to spend big (or at least something) to get the cover the squad needs or is it going to one of those summers where we buy 2-3 player and hide behind our LANS?
Last season, we had 11 first team players go out (sold or loans) with just 5 coming in.

2) Next, bit of a self-soothing conspiracy theory but I believe that any signings that the club might've worked out might be kept under wraps till the Puma deal kicks in. I know we don't need the new kit ready or the money from that deal to to get new players but it'd make good PR sense to have the signings displayed with the newer jerseys. think to the other transfers where clubs have their (yet unofficial) signings holding up the club tshirt for the story being run. *shudders at the thought of Cesc*
Now I don't expect a sudden flood of pictures of our latest captures once Puma outs the kit but it'd make sense to me for them to want to delay it.

3) Finally, on a more positive note, does anyone think we're ready for a BIG season this time? last year some people rightly pointed out that we weren't there yet. although we finished just 6 points shy of the title (5 dropped against a mediocre Utd side and 3 against Villa on opening day) with a wrecked side, performances against the big teams and also in the Champions league proved that the quality was still a bit short of the mark.
(Our Subs against Bayern away were Viviano, Rosicky, Flamini, Jenkinson, Gnabry, Hayden and an ineligible Miyaichi (with Verm filling in at LB) while they had Starke, Boateng, Rafinha, Van Buyten, Kroos, Müller and Pizarro FFS!)

Now we have a side of men who've actually won something instead of our "boys". Rambo's gone into beast mode, Ozil's had time to bed in and for once, we actually have a proper spine to our team in the from of Shezza, BFG, Rambo, Ozil and Giroud.
I know most of us are hoping for much, much more than last year but is anyone expecting that to materialise?

would like to hear what the rest have to say on this. also, i'd like to point out that we've got a real class bunch of supporters on here. I love it how we've humanized and romanticezed our view towards players instead of looking at 'em like pieces of property in a game of monopoly. keep up the good work guys and gals and Eds.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Probably the best post I've read on here! Absolutely spot on.

This summer at an absolute minimum we will need:

A GK to replace Fabianski
A CB to replace Vermealen
A RB to replace Sagna (all for giving Jenko a go though)
A DM - needed one for ages
A LW - need to add pace to the team
A ST - woefully short up front for a top team

So that's 6 players that we'll need. Add into that Cazorla possibly leaving and he'll also need replaced.

City will add to their already hugely talented squad and Chelsea will spend a huge amount to allow Mourinho to build his own team. Liverpool will spend a fair amount and so will Spurs and United will spend wisely and under LVG will come again.

I'd at least hope for the DM, LW, ST to be world class players and the rest to be decent squad players. A decent first 11 player to be brought in as well.

This is a massive summer for us. I reckon we'll have to spend around 120m to get anywhere near Chelsea and City next year. We could make a fair chunk back from the sales of players though.

I'm of the opinion that once again the injury list will figure large in our season. If the revamp of our medical/Physio setup works and they are kept to a minimum and I don't have to check out Physioroom every other day during the season this will a huge factor for us.

The reality is probably 18 or 19 real quality players with the other 5 or 6 capable to step up for cup games to give certain players that rest time that is so important is what is needed.

So to lose Park, Bendtner and other fringe players does not worry me as long as the injuries are avoided.

The core of our team is good enough as the points difference to the top showed.

Two top quality signings such as Snchez and Khedira along with a couple of others simply better than those leaving will give us more of a shout than those who need to step away from the razor blades believe.

Hi I'm a sunderland fan and I heard we want joel campbell on loan but I thought he would stay with you would you want to loan him out?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Premier league experiance is priceless and no offence to Sunderland mate, but being down there when every goal counts, can really show us what he's got to give, you've got a good manager who seems to know what he wants in a player.

I'd loan him out if he get a striker in, I really would hate to go another season with Giroud and Sanogo on their own, we need something different.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jun 2014 20:27:14
Saf,

we will keep Joel Campbell but will loan you Naomi Campbell.

But being serious, if we don't keep him Sunderland would be a very good loan option.

Would be sickened if we bought debuchy and not aurier but I would say it signals Wengers faith in Jenko to be the future

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Jenko cost 1m & hasn't shown anything superb yet, I love him as a back up & he might develop into a good player but the odds are against him.

Aurier has a much higher chance of being something special

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jun 2014 17:38:17
Maybe it's the long term future of Bellerin which Arsene is considering?

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jun 2014 19:06:10
We're on the same page Jonny

(did I really just do that?) :(

Aurier is a far greater talent. But I think signing a 28y/o means Jenko is the one for the future

Agree0 Disagree0

Glad we agree Sheeny!

Nothing against Jenko I hope he turns out great but I don't know if he will ever be world class. He's already 22 Auriers a year younger and is much better at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

When Jenko came in for Sagna last year, he was outstanding!

You can't improve if all you are doing is sitting on the bench. Give the guy a go.

I think AW hoped Sagna would stay for another few years whilst he slowly moved him out and put Jenko in. Then Jenko would take over from him and Bellerin would be ready to be back up. that's probably why we are looking at Debuchy.

Agree0 Disagree0

I want Jenks to be our RB next season, I'm sure plenty disagree and I can understand why people want tried and tested but how can Jenks become that if he isn't given the chance

Agree0 Disagree0

We have a superb example of a meteoric rise, Ramsey.

Given the game time, Jenko could do the same thing, I'm with G95, bring someone in, but rotating jenkinson with whoever comes in for game time to get him to really nail down a starting XI place.

Hi Eds and the crazy bunch (Dags / G62 / Jen / Flybo / Lakes and the rest etc

I don't post that often but read all your posts every day and love the banter you lot provide, it really helps us Arsenal supporters get through each day. I admit it is hard to see our rivals signing players and us be so quiet at the moment but I just wanted to thank you lot for entertaining us on a daily basis.

I have read a few reports stating we are looking good for Sanchez & Schneiderlin, which would be amazing. Quoted below:

"It is claimed that French reporter Francois Pinet, who broke stories of Arsenal signing Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny has reported that the Gunners were close to signing Sanchez and Schneiderlin".

But reports today suggest Arsenal are now going to go for Khedira for two reasons 1) to fill DM slot (Very good) and 2) to help get the best out of Ozil. (Not so sure). As long as this doesn't affect a move for Sanchez.

I know they are very good friends but surely to get the best out of him would be to have him collect the ball and look up to see Alexis Sanchez in front of him, he now knows I can slot this ball through the eye of a needle and Sanchez is going to outpace everyone and get on the end of it.

To have both Khedira & Sanchez would be amazing as well but I like others are growing on the idea of Schneiderlin, I think this guy is going to be a real star. He looks calm and collective on the ball and can see him being very disciplined to his position. With him sitting in front of the defence, our creative players can then do what they do best.

That was my take on it, Sorry to go. Keep up the good work Eds and Gang

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think sanchez move will depend on Pogba.

If vidal is sold to Bayern, as this is where their interest is, if they sell kroos to Madrid (very likely)

they will keep pogba, which means that Sanchez won't be going to Juventus, also we will be able to offer a much better transfer fee to get the player.

the issue is if liverpool want sanchez in any suarez offer then we are stumped.

as far as Khedira goes, its likely that Schneidelin wants to move to Arsenal, however knowing how southampton have done business this transfer window, they will want a significant sum for him, and khedira being of interest and possibly a lower sum would suit Arsenal better.

Khedira, Sanchez, Ginter, Aurier and Remy should do the trick for us.

Afternoon Arsenal Ace, hope all is well and dandy fella.

I think Lakes pretty much summed up the situation.

Good post Lakes and hope you are correct.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool have nothing to do with the sanchez deal, the player isn't interested by them and barca don't want to include him in the deal. Sanchez will either stay at barca or move to arsenal

Hiya,

I my honest opinion and despite a lot of understandable doubt from a lot of Gooners I think we will be really pleased with who we get.

I can genuinely see Arsene signing two big names to fill spots we need. It's a crazy job to think who, with the countless rumours and various sources claiming this or that.

My belief I should add comes from the turning point in Ozil last year and that Arsene will know the players he wants and he doesn't have to settle for the Girouds, Podolski's or Flamini's anymore.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm standing for the next general election CTR, so I don't really need to make any promises or say things which may come true.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ace lots of good names being linked to us over the weekend has raised my spirits no end. A DMF of excellent quality and a top class striker with pace is what we need and all the names being mentioned fit the bill so who is not so important as long as we fill the roles with real quality

Agree0 Disagree0

Jenny I love your positivity, they should hire you as wengers general, as even he probably needs some positivity.

Been a big supporter of the move for Schneiderlin this summer, good player, nice fit and fair price - but with him coming into favor and if he gets too expensive then not sure would pay over the top for him.

If we are to break the bank for the DM position (of those mentioned) for me its Gustavo all day. He would be a destroyer in our midfield.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Jun 2014 16:04:42
I think we had our chance with gustavo unfortunately

Schneiderlin is a good player but we have to win the prem this year. No exceptions, and to do that Schned isn't the man we need

So Dags, it appears that Loic Remy might actually go to Spurs this summer. Pretty much ending any chance of him EVER signing for Arsenal for the rest of his career, which will go down hill at the Lane.

I personally think that Campbell will come in alongside a Sanchez style signing and make up the attack with Giroud, Walcott, Poldi, Sanago.

Just borrow some tissues from Flybo, although he usually uses them for entirely different reasons when thinking about Ollie Giroud.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Jun 2014 10:18:03
You could be right Greeny.

I think if we get Nuttytelli, we won't go for Remy, plus he would want to join Spurs because he has more chance of playing.

Box of tissues indeed my friend.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whereas if he signs you'll need those tissues for entirely different purposes.

Read something similar in here today BUT don't be surprised if Campbell is all we get ( up front) Wenger will look at Giroud, Podolski, Walcott and Campbell as enough to get us through the season, I think a midfielder and CB and that's your lot

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Campbell >>> Sanogo, if that is all we get, then look for us to make it up with a hi scoring winger (Sanchez type) - its a special sauce to get the attack right and our master chef (AW) will pick the right ingredients.
