Ozil has signed a new contract!
Unfortunately its only for his corporate box at the Emirates, but hey hopefully that is a good sign that he's staying.

Hello Eds.
Bit of an awkward question . maybe!
Let's say it's arranged that we keep Sanchez for another season and supposedly he's out of contract next season as is the situation.
So Arsenal arrange to give him a new contract at the end of next season let's say for 4 years with a buy out clause if 30 million all hypothetical I know. Would that be legal knowing that he would be leaving anyway? .

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I don't understand the question sorry.}

30 Jun 2017 21:21:38
He is aloud to talk to clubs with 6 months left.

Ed001,
I think what Lanesra is trying to say is, Sanchez stays this season, but we allow him to leave next season on a Bosman.
But, hypothetically, we get him to sign a new contract with a ยฃ30m release clause, thus allowing us to sell him for a fee.

Underhanded somewhat ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - why would he agree a new contract when he can just leave?}

01 Jul 2017 07:34:33
yeah ok Ed I got you. I was a Brahms and Liszt when I wrote that. Sorry mate๐Ÿบ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿบ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ.

{Ed001's Note - ah now it makes sense. Well the question still doesn't, but it makes sense why you asked! ;-)

01 Jul 2017 12:57:48
LANESRA
why would he sign, he can pocket it all, if he doesn't sign.
The snake is of to man city.
I hope Wenger plays hard ball. but 50 million is a lot to loose in one year if we make him stay.

I honestly think teams will wait a year. Let's be honest he has more chance of silverware at Bayern! And Bayern are masters of getting huge names for free.

At this point, i would rather the board appoint sags and lanersa and let them do business from the pub, rather then maintain the status quo.

Offer him a 4 year contract with a buyout clause of 50 mil if sumbody offers that we can consider the offer.

I know Alexis was by far out best player last season, but I'm sick and tired of his attitude. Towards the end of the season he was sulky and was seen shouting at other players on many occasions. I also remember his laughing from the bench when Bayern was embarrassing his team mates on the pitch.

Now he doesn't want to tell the club what his intentions are, he should just leave or decide to stay.
On the Ozil front, it seems like he doesn't want to leave and he only wants a bigger deal ( or maybe no other club wants to buy the lazy guy)
Arsenal is bigger than everyone and Alexis should be graceful enough to a club that believed in him and gave him chance to showcase his abilities after Barcelona made him a bit part player for years.

It's about time Arsenal showed some backbone and made it clear that they dictate which teams they will sell a player to, not the player.

The player is a contracted employee and as such is not in charge of the transfer. They can obviously negotiate their new contract with the club they are moving to and may have a choice of clubs from whom bids have been accepted, however they are not in charge of which bids are accepted. If a player wants to change club they must hope that a bid is accepted from a club they would like to play for or stay put.

Why would a club want to sell its best players to a close rival? It would be madness!

Its a two way street, whilst a club cannot force a player to sign a new contract like ways that player cannot force their club to sell them to club not of their choosing.

If Sanchez wants to go to City just tell him no and say he has 3 choices:

1. Transfer to a team Arsenal is willing to sell to

2. Sign a new contract with Arsenal

3. Sit on the bench for the entire year leading up to what at 28 might realistically be his last World Cup and hope his coach picks him with zero match fitness, sharpness or pitch time since last season.

Yes he would be able to leave on a free in a years time but a stand needs to be taken, we would lose ยฃ50m but it would be worth it to stop he rot. Top players who are on more money for a weeks "work" than most fans could aspire to earn in 5 years need to be put in their place.

Ultimately the money they earn comes from fans without whom there would be no sponsors, TV rights, ticket sales, merchandise or image rights. Its about time they showed the fans some loyalty.

A club of Arsenals size, earnings and history needs to draw a line in the sand to say we are not a stepping stone club, we are a final destination. Top players must be shown that there will be continued player investment and that they will be surrounded by other top players in a team that can compete successfully in any competition.

The only players looking to leave should be those older players on the fringes of the first team who have not been able to stake a claim to a starting place in the first 11.

As I started to read your post I wanted to start moaning about the loss of a good player for a season, but you're 100% right, let him stew as it's not like his heart would be in it if we make him play while his contract runs down.

So my question is. How is it possible that in a market like the one football apperentely is in right now, where 18 year olds are supposed to go for around 100 mil if not more, we would allow a worldclass proven goalscorer in his prime leave for 50 mil? Age is a factor of course one could be great for years to come but the other has proven himself time and time again as well as having on of the best injurey records for somebody who plays at his level more or less every game. So if City want Sanchez so badly why don't we demand a higher fee or tell 'em to look elsewhere?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

30 Jun 2017 12:39:02
Sanchez has 12 months to run on his contract, in Jan he could agree a pre deal for free. the 18 year old you are talking about has a contract until 2020 I believe.

Plus a don't think players under 25 can leave as a free agent for nothing even if thier contract is out.

For fun, I started looking at the performance of some of Stan Kroenke's other teams.

It's pretty grim.

For all of Ivan Gladiz's praise during Q&A; our owner cannot be called Ambitous.

30 Jun 2017 14:30:46
Oh I don't know, I mean he did move his NHL franchise away from its home and loyal fan base in St Louis across to Los Angeles based on pure ambition; that it will make his net worth increase!

30 Jun 2017 15:36:25
No kidding and his son seems even worse so no silver lining in him taking over from his father at some point, the two teams he's president of both have done even worse since Stan appointed him.

Just look att Colorado Avalanche in the NHL from 95-00 (oldest stats i could find) before Stan they finished 2nd on average in their conference.

Then Stan came in and the following seasons they finished 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 9. and it basically just got worse with a couple of 15th places at worst, but those early seasons when he still had the team the previous owners had built made the average league finish under him 7th. And then came president Josh and made it 9th (11th if not for a fluke 2nd place in 2014)

So as long as KSE controls the majority at Arsenal there's no way AFC will ever compete at the level we fans want.

If only Usmanov owned the club then Arsene would do? :-)
Absolutely everything exactly the same as he does under Stan?
Usmanov would not sack Arsene and Kronke does absolutely nothing to prevent Arsene from doing everything and anything he wants.
He gives the fans the manager they want
He gives that manager all he wants
What more can the man do?

Hello Eds .
What are your thoughts on Gary Medel.
I was quite impressed with him watching Chile play against Italy. I thought he would look good in an Arsenal shirt playing like that. I read he plays for Internazionale and Cardiff beforehand but apart from that I have never honestly heard of him. What do you guys think of him? .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I love Medel and have been wanting Liverpool to buy him since before he moved to Spain many years ago now. He was just a combative midfielder with real bite (nicknamed the Pitbull) back then, but he had a lovely touch on the ball, good vision and an excellent range of passing, as well as the bite. Since he worked with Bielsa, at Chile, he has grown immeasurably as a player and become accomplished as a ball playing centre back, as well as a midfielder. For me, if you had bought him instead of Xhaka, you would have easily got top 4 last season.}

30 Jun 2017 07:52:10
Glad you said that people were looking at me a bit weird when I said I would like to have seen him at Arsenal the other day.
He certainly looks a strong player.
Wonder why we haven't heard of him being linked to Arsenal I believe he would have been a really good choice
of player. Do you agree? .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - because Wenger never wanted a player like him until Coquelin broke through and Medel is too old now to be that player now. I did say many many times when he was at Sevilla, before Cardiff made him their record signing (incidentally he was by far and away their best player that season too), that he would be a good signing for Arsenal. Wenger was just never interested in combative midfielders then, he was only looking for tricky fast players.}

New saying for this transfer activity so far.
Remember last year and the year before it was 'Groundhog Day'
This year it going to be.
'COPY and PASTE'
Yes guys just look up last years posts and get copy and pasting.
Gonna save a lot of time and energy.
Just alter the players names.
Have fun ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜‚.

There is market value and Arsene value when it comes to signing players and Arsene won't budge on what he thinks is the right price so clubs won't sell to us.
If a player is out of contact we are in with a shout of getting them because Arsene likes a freebie bargain, if a club are looking to off load a player because they wish to fund thier own spending plans we have a chance of getting the player and if a player desperately wants to leave his current club and the likes of Chelsea City United Real Barcelona Bayern aren't interested in him we are in the running for his signature.
We just don't make offers other clubs can't refuse to force through signing players we really want so we chase big names to keep the fans happy but in reality wait to see what is left once the big boys have had first pick and got what they need and want then try to pick up the best of what's left.
It's the Arsenal post Highbury model and it hasn't worked yet and I've a feeling that ain't about to change anytime soon.
