31 Aug 2015 22:08:57
No reports of any new signings looks like we will need to mske do with oue squad just can't understand why some player's have been allowed to go .I would have kept podolski and the young prospects .I would much prefer to watch our young players and give them the opportunity and experience.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

31 Aug 2015 23:38:45
Which young prospects?

01 Sep 2015 06:22:39
Hopefully we can recall the likes of Gnabry and Zelalem if we want to

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:07:19
Remember our last minute deal for Ozil?

We are going to do the same with Cavani.

Done deal.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

31 Aug 2015 22:25:44
Il send you a pint over dags if we do

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:29:56
I hope so Dags but didn't you say that Benzema was a done deal as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:38:23
I remember that night when we got Ozil really well Dags, it took forever to go done deal :-)
I think Bergkamp was the only signing that came close to being that exciting

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:49:59
Seems that our only bit of buisness this deadline day will be the loan of PSG's 18yr old striker, Jean-Kevin Augustin.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:54:59
Gooner62,

That was just a smokescreen mate lol

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 23:14:09
Fingers crossed - Madrid business, Southampton business and PSG could be a happy ending.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 23:22:37
Dags I will take you out on an all day piss up if we get him

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 23:31:54
Dags if we sign cavani, I will happily put a pint in your hand.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 23:34:02
Even if by there is an Ozil type deal on the cards, 1 player isn't really enough is it

I know i moan about old wenger, but i must admit, id be moaning about old van goule if hecwas our manager. Crikey getting rid of hernandez and replacing him with a kid still wet behind the ears for 40 mil give or take the odd pound. Loaning januzai out who probably went to the same school and same class as him and has more experience. Not managing to keep degae and not buying any defenders. He hasn't bought bad but Crikey if wed spent close on 270 mil on players in a year id expect world domination for that. With all the talk of bale ronaldo and neymar and they have failed miserably to say man u are back. I think van goule is a muppet in more ways than one. They definately aren't shoppingvat harrods, its aldi and morrisons with us. Trouble is we are still waiting for the buy one get one free offers.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

31 Aug 2015 22:23:42
Harsh Steve.

I think he is doing a fantastic job :-)

Agree2 Disagree1

31 Aug 2015 22:31:08
The thing I love about van ghoul is how he has decimated the old flowing United style and replaced it with watching paint dry dot com. What happens to the flying wing backs 3-5-3 he was trying to make the next big formation in the EPL. Soon got that idea out of his daft little head

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:34:15
You are right about one thing within the above :)

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:49:49
He's spent half in a year what Arsene has spent in his entire time at Arsenal, both OTT with other people's money just at totally opposite ends of the scale.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 23:23:18
L V G spending will go past 250,000,000 that is crazy

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 21:45:50
Great picture of wenger on a plane with the destination allegedly been Paris. One concerning thing though it looks as if wenger is flying economy on air France . Hmmm just some wrinkly old bloke out of focus off to Dublin then

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2015 22:00:09
Wenger is in Paris.
Benzema is French.
Ibra is in Paris.
Cavani is in Paris.

I bet all he comes home with is a little souvenir statue of The Eiffel Tower..and a croissant.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:09:43
He normally goes out to Commentate on France matches but it's a bit early for that as they don't play until Friday.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:12:11
I thoughg that lol... Then again, wenger is a tight arse so not entierly sure he wouldn't fly economy!
Im gobsmacked at how positive the vibe surrounding our club and team was tail end of last season and how it is now, the board, wenger whoever is really in charge i feel has cheated us should we not sign any outfield quality.
There is absolutely no excuses now, finance wise we're good, we can afford marquee signings and wages yet we don't move for people. I do acknowledge there is a lack of truly world class forwards around at present, much like heavy weight boxing. But there's a few, had they tried and publically stated then ok fair enough but to be so inept is a joke. Its laughable, we all know where we are short and what's needed to mount a real challenge yet aside from cech, nothing has been done about it. Its neglegence i feel. By this time tomorrow, should we not have signed anybody of note then i'm going to be so dissapointed as i know we are in for another season of, fighting for a champs league spot 3rd or 4th, maybe a run in fa or league cup and last 16 of europe. I really hope this is wengers final year. We need rejuvinating and i don't think he's the man. Modern football politics and finance has left him behind, he's a decade in the past. Hoping something happens, i feel we deserve it but not holding my breathe!

Agree0 Disagree1

31 Aug 2015 22:14:38
Only If the exchange rates a favourable dags. I bet he even takes a packed lunch and a flask of tea so he doesn't have to eat out

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:15:57
He's obviously refereeing a match somewhere which is his usual way of passing the time on deadline day, well he must get bored when every one else is to busy to talk about changing rules to siut his agenda.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:27:10
3rd choice keeper on the way then πŸ˜‚

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:48:46
He's in Paris to finalise a loan deal for Jean-Kevin Augustin.
An 18 year old striker who's played one game for PSG.

There's our gamble.

they reckon redknapp a nightmare to b behind at a mcdonalds drive thru.....

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 20:31:45
Charlie looks Bournemouth bound Dags, its difficult to understand why bigger clubs haven't shown more interest no disrespect to Bournemouth, there must be a reason.
I know he's not top class but a cheeky gamble for a Europa or even back up for a CL club wouldn't have looked out of place to me.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2015 22:03:36
Wouldn't surprise me mate.

Even if we offered a cheeky season long loan for him, as long as QPR didn't have any permanent takers, i'm sure they would have accepted.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:16:58
Well he played for Poole town for long enough there right next door to each other

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 20:20:36
So Real and United have reached an agreement for De Gea..hopefully this will kick start the transfer merry-go-round we've all been waiting all summer for!

Believable1 Unbelievable1

31 Aug 2015 20:33:49
Yeah if we need a goalkeeper.

31 Aug 2015 23:00:28
It's probably come from him wanting his patio doing

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 19:46:39
I think one of the Eds said the De Gea transfer was a key one and could start a cascade of big name transfers, is this still the case or has his transfer happened too late in the window to have an impact?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2015 21:39:53
I think the cascade has just become a trickle.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 19:39:30
Here is the news for north London, there is no news there wasn't any news yesterday or the day before that and the chances of there being any news tomorrow isn't looking good either.
On a brighter note large parts of the UK are reporting a very busy bank holiday with the trend set to continue throughout the next 24 hours.
So anyone looking to escape all the deadline day madness and enjoy some nice quite time Arsenal are offering a one day granteed transfer window free zone mini break with deck chair book and unlimited tap water and all for a very reasonable Β£5000

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2015 20:18:12

31 Aug 2015 22:05:09
Lol G62.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 19:35:19
Draxler signed for Wolfsburg
As it stands every team in prem has signed at least 4 new players yet arsenal have signed 1 :(:(
Looks like it's going to be another season we fall short just again same as last 5 yrs really how wenger can say there aren't players to sign when there is every player has a price he needs to stop been so stubborn couple of injuries and we will struggle to make top 4

Believable1 Unbelievable1

31 Aug 2015 20:30:38
Don't worry Matty, after years and years and not being able to compete financially with our rivals after some great commercial deals we now can!
That's why we've never been linked with a single target for City Chelsea or UTD!

It's laughable!

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 19:32:09
I wonder how many times Jim White will say "Arsenal" tomorrow?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2015 19:47:51

31 Aug 2015 22:11:46

31 Aug 2015 18:38:45
Ed's with Arsenal interested in Cavani and only 24 hours left of the transfer window, does a deal look possible, are there any positive signs that a deal can be reached in time or has there been no communication between the two clubs yet.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2015 19:52:51
The communication went like this Yorkshire . Hey mr psg would you consider 15 million for cavani no we won't Mr wenger. Well he is 28 Mr psg please how about we throw an extra pound in no Mr wenger it's not 1998 any more there is a thing called inflation either get real Mr wenger or go and buy marhez you twonk

Agree1 Disagree1

31 Aug 2015 20:21:30
Lol at Browgun

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 20:30:15
Haha Sounds pretty accurate that Brow.

I don't like the way football is with the amount of money being thrown around but paying over the odds for a top bracket player is a must if we are to secure the singing we need.

I hope Wenger swallows his pride and does what needs to be done.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 21:17:26
Arsene Mcfly, sometimes he goes back ( buying price) sometimes he goes forwards (selling price) but he spends very little in the present.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:23:20
If we are to put a list down now of strikers we would accept in order
Cavani
Higuian
Lacazette
Aubameyang

Non of their respective clubs have signed a back up with the exception of Lyon who signed a relative unknown early in the window. With all windows but ours shut at 11 can't see it happening. The window been open for longer in UK is about as much use as a hand break on a battleship

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 18:47:53
Well today has been all abt utd in and outs let's hope its us tommorow in the news. Cheers

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2015 18:11:06
Looks like a quiet day in the Arsenal Transfer Office - it must be bank holiday Monday!

Any late whispers out there??

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2015 17:35:56
Eds why do the transfer windows shut at different times across Europe

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - because the respective FA's choose to do it that way.}

31 Aug 2015 16:57:23
Unless a miracle happens and we get either benzema, higuain, carvalho or charlie austin ( not really, just put that for you dags) it looks like we have missed our targets again, so either no one or another panic buy. Not in my opinion the way to run a so called big club. Wenger proving my point again, he is reactive, not pro active and is blind and unable to spot and correct what is required, even when every man and his dog is telling him every day of the week.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2015 18:12:39
You have a great way with words Steve, there is still the chance we could get Higuan though I would prefer Cavani so let's hold fire until Tuesday and then we have the international break to vent our anger.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 18:26:29
Spot on Steve , so another year goes past and no league title , quater finals of the CL , Cup winners??? might be tougher this time around given the strength of some squads ( Chelsea and City )

No point in shouting from the tree tops " WE HAVE 200 MILLION TO SPEND " and we spend 5% of that figure.

So does that mean next Summer we will have 300 million to spend .

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 18:28:51
With all Europe closing tonight we can keep an eye on psg, Napoli to see if they bring in replacements for the strikers we are supposedly wanting. Real are tussling with United with de gea deal so can't see them looking for a striker. So that's benzema out. Januzi at Dortmund is marco reus on his way?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 18:48:48
I really think we have missed a massive trick here.

I know there hasn't been many strikers available, but we won't win the league without the addition of even a good striker (Austin), never mind a very good striker (Cavani/Benzema).

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 18:57:04
It's no good when fans know there is money to spend. I know there is no point buying for buyings sake but there is areas that need strengthening! The pundits know it the manager knows it and the fans know it. Managing a club is difficult and yes he's built a strong club yes he's got a great squad yes great but not the greatest. Part of been a manager is to keep fans happy it spills over onto the team. So if no one comes it's like this we either go on and win the league and all hail wenger as an out and out genius that is in full control or we finish as we did last year with FA cup and CL football (which isn't easy anyway) and face mutiny

Wait and see time boys

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 16:52:15
Do people think Arsene just doesn't want to get into the 50,000,000 + numbers? let's face it that is what is needed nowadays for the top boys .

If it is as hard to get a player then how do other clubs manage it , why didn't we jump in for Pedro? he wasnt that expensive , he would give competition for places .

Q
Has Arsene been in the job too long and has become stale and far too cautious?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2015 18:29:39
Ed025 said a Month ago we should offer 50+ to get Benzema wrapped up quickly and Ed001 said we should actually make a bid and see what's doing but Arsene wanted Real to want to sell to fund other moves so as to get him for less money.
In the modern game sometimes you've got to pay what it takes to complete your team or pay the price in points for that season.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 16:03:01
Ed are reports true we meant to be doing announcement today

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea. Is this Twitter?}

31 Aug 2015 17:02:16
The only announcement we are getting today will be from some old fart in the boardroom telling us we can afford to buy anyone except, messi and ronaldo, but no one else would improve us so we will keep it in the bank, or under the matress. There won't be any other.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 17:35:57

31 Aug 2015 19:23:28
Stephen I just read about how because we are so desperate for news the hacks are having a field day with us writing what ever they want knowing they'll get hits, its not just you mate we're all doing it, crazy really but hey no that's what football and Arsenal in particular does to people :-(

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 14:56:53

Quick question assuming we are after him can Cavanni be signed tomorrow or does he have to be signed by midnight tonight when the French window closes

Cheers lads

Hope ye have a busy couple of days

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Read the posts.}

31 Aug 2015 17:28:34
We can buy from them until our window closes, even if their window has closed

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 14:40:02
well I think all arsenal fans should just sit back and wait and see, I have been looking at all the talk over the last few weeks and it comes down to the same old crap, AW thinks he is the chairmen, board and manager, it does my head in he tells us there is no one out there but all the other clubs find there players they want and we don't, I think he must be going blind in his old age, I really do think we need a change of manager as we do the same thing every year we are a joke to everyone. I spend on average 250 pound a month for me and my ten year old son to go and watch them and all we get is the same crap year in year out,

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2015 14:46:40
Sorry you feel that way saint - I on the other other hand luv watching the Arsenal, highlight of my week and far more pleasing than any other team in football. I will take the good with bad and so chuffed not to support a boring team or one that is merely trying to buy trophies.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 16:20:19
As some one said a couple of weeks ago we are becoming split between Arsene and Arsenal supporters some don't care about competing with the best as long as Arsene is our manager 4th is fine while want to challenge for the title and football's biggest prizes and are happy to see Arsene replaced in order for that to happen.
I now agree with Derby Arsene and Arsenal will never = premier league champions.

Agree0 Disagree1

31 Aug 2015 16:43:57
Question:

Are you better spending on par with city and win the league by selling out to a big Russian

Or

Building a footballing institution over a period of 20 years or so following the barca/bayern business model.

Given the second option teams have basically monopolised the champions league winners medals lately how come so any people want the first option?

Man utd monopolised the premier league for years using progressive building, Leeds tried to buy it, admittedly from a less stable money source but still...

Discuss?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 16:44:55

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 18:48:03
Mate I'm so disappointed because to all but Arsene we are a goal scorer away from being real title contenders, I just don't understand it because the resources are there its not as though anyone is suggesting putting the club future into question or spending beyond our means its so doable it really is difficult to understand why not.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 19:03:15
My problem is Derby I know your right when you say it about Arsene never winning another title but I don't want it to be true so for as long as possible I try hang on to thinking surely he will this time! and why wouldn't he?.
But you were right mate all along, he ho its only football I guess :-(

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 21:58:52
For me as things stand wenger is the ideal manager to assemble a top squad. The man has to have a backbone and and a half to stand up to an pressure.

We could have 5 billion in the bank, if the player isn't available or doesn't want to move, then we aren't signing him.

Alot of folks seem to think transfer deadline day is like going to asda. Fact is we only really want to buy from a few clubs (barca, real etc) and quite simply can't just demand the players leave. We literally get there cast offs usually for top money. Even Manchester United suffer from this problem...re:Di Maria.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - So you think Arsenal should buy players they have no interest in just for the hell of it?}

Re rue's question;
I would definetly wait until the Merc has a lot more miles on it with maybe a couple of minor faults that my amazing medic can fix/patch up. This will obviously mean that its cheaper to buy but is an improvement on my kia. Oh! I meant to say mechanic.. Not medic. :)

I knew Harry redknap would have to get in on the transfer day at sky. He has dyed his hair black and changed his name to Barry silkman the football agent.

And here is a scoop he said about David de gea

"Well he has to stay or has to go" wow thanks Barry . But that's not all he said victor Moses might go out on loan maybe West Ham or somewhere else.

He said his deals are all done. Let's hope Kevin Phillips doesn't get on the blower to him and ask for another stint at Sunderland

You don't have a car and are desperately in need of one. And your dream car is a Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG. But you cannot afford it or rather are not willing to pay the true market price for it. Do you...

A. Not buy any car at all because it is not the Mercedes
B. Complain and whine why the Mercedes is soo expensive.
C. Accept your limitations and buy something that is well within your budget like a Prius or something which will definitely not be as good as the Mercedes, but will be definitely be an upgrade on taking public transport all the time

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I have never liked Mercedes, way too much plastic.}

For you and me Rue we get the best car we can afford or get our hands on but that's because we probably work for people who expect us to be reliable and productive to a certain standard to keep our job , Arsene has the luxury only needing to do the minimum of 4th to please his boss.

What happens if you go and buy the Renault and then 2 weeks later see the owner of the AMG has dropped his price for a quick sale, but you now can't afford it as you bought the Renault? With every decision there are two costs, the monetary and the opportunity....

There's a pretty strong vibe on here lately that we're doomed if we don't sign a DM and a CF. I absolutely want us to improve our 1st 11 in those areas, however, we have a strong squad regardless. There's no doubting we've been well below our best to start the season but, despite that, we've won at Newcastle where United couldn't, we beat Palace who just beat Chelsea and we were a blind linesman from getting the 3 points against Liverpool. If that's Arsenal out of form, we should be pretty decent when we click. The same can be said about Theo, in my opinion. He's been poor to begin the season but, he's getting into the right position. He has shown he can find the net in past seasons, to me he seems to be anxious and trying to hard. If we don't get the striker to improve us, hopefully Theo can settle down and find that form he found to finish last season. If he does, and is able to match the potential for all to see, he may end up being a revelation and have everyone wondering why we were worried at the start of this season. It's only early, have some faith, this is a strong squad, maybe they'll prove it sooner than you think.

That's fair enough mate. We have started a season worse. Things ain't all that bad .

I would love to see Theo do well and I believe we have a great squad - with some compromises in it however. The issue is, we are:

Too inconsistent
Often turn up and don't put pressure on the opponent
Attack too slowly
Don't take our chances
Suspect to giving away a silly goal
Can't break down teams who park the bus ( attacking slow does not help )
Lack width at times with players on right wing who can take people on rather than running into space
Rely on width from fullbacks which can leave us exposed

We can compete and have a decent season and it's all to play for but we aren't at the quarter minimum bet table, stakes are high and we want to win.

A striker, CDM and winger will change that completely while still maintaining the core of the squad.

If we don't add - it's not a disaster for a good season but we won't win the league.

I completely agree with everything you say there SY4. We've been poor to start the season, no doubt. We finished last season pretty tamely too. Before that though, we were dead set on fire and arguably the best team in the league for 3 months after Xmas. Football is a funny old game. I'm pretty sure there'll be some surprises this season. Who picked Coq last season? Or Bellerin? Or Harry Kane? Or Januzaj The year before? Or Ramsey? My point is, despite our horrible early form and Theo's especially, there's plenty of time for him to have a stellar season. We all know it's in him I think.

SY4 a lot of good stuff in your post. Take exception to the winger need though, we have ox, Theo even Gibbs and Welbeck but it won't matter if we keep playing a CDM on the wing.

Also, same as your other comments, if we pick up the tempo maybe the players we already have are good enough to get the job done- good point!

Theo is one of the good guys and often singled out for his failings rather than his successes by commentators and fans. He has a lot to offer us and I really hope he has a great season.

Red,
I don't disagree with you, they both can play on the wing but they both require space to run into as neither are truly tricky wingers who can take players on or operate in tight situations like a Hazzsrd.
They both present options to the team but we need a winger to create width and offer something different

sY4, a lot of good stuff in your post, but at the end of the day how will signing players change the issues you list, like lack of width and too slow play. Surely these can only be changed by Wenger as its the style we are playing....

One would assume that today is the last day we can hope to get a TOP player.

The almost inevitable flurry of activity may give us a chance to pick up a player.
But with the European window shutting today, clubs won't be able to replace outgoings tomorrow, so our business would be slight harder to complete tomorrow.

I saw someone today mention that he believes were after a defensive mid and a striker from the same club, both of whom are improvements on what we have.

Very subjective I suppose and I'm not even sure if the guy is 'reliable' but he was saying no benzema all summer.

I just need something to cling on to!

{Ed002's Note - The transfer window is open until tomorrow evening, so you assumption is incorrect.

Other clubs are not waiting to see what Arsenal do, they have in mind what they want and are putting efforts in. The world does not in any way revolve around Arsenal.}

31 Aug 2015 08:55:09

Normally this close to deadline day there is an inkling of truth to some rumours but nothing that I've seen lately. I hoping wenger pulls of an ozil'esque type of signing out of nowhere.
We have sent quite a few players on loan so I would still expect at least 1 signing. Just can't see who at the moment.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

31 Aug 2015 08:45:34
I hope so too bacon. I fear the the main difference now than with ozil is no teams who have a striker of the calibre that we need has a replacement or back up unlike Madrid who had an embarrassment of riches throughout their midfield at the time.

If we see lacazette move to psg today start getting excited

It could be worse. We are desparately in need of a striker upgrade and we need Coq to be injury free for the entire season. But what about Man U? They need (in reverse order of importance) a GK, a striker and a manager.
