There was a lot of debate about Evans on this site over the summer. I know we are all happy with Holding and Mustafi but this guy really was like marmite on here. Interesting to see what thoughts are now.

Merson has some strong thoughts

"Arsenal should have signed [Jonny Evans], " Paul Merson said during Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday.
"I think Tony has helped him along the way. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the big teams bought him in the summer. I think he's one of the best centre halves in this country. "

At Arsenal he would be in a no win situation as we would have jumped all over his every mistake making Jenks look popular, it would have taken a run of 10 near perfect performances to change our minds simply because we would have seen him as a desperate panic buy from day one.
Xhaka has been less than great but many fans rated him before he arrived so he gets a chance but any player who comes into a club where the fans don't want him has his work cut out from day one. Its no different at any other club either.
Johnny Evans not joining us was a good move for him and us imo.

Are they match fit or just back in training mate?
Palace won't be easy having a new manager to impress and with the window opening some of their players will be fighting to show they shouldn't be replaced during it, while our players are in a fighting not to let Chelsea get completely out of sight.
If we turn up with our A game we should have way to much for Palace but anything less and it could turn into a battle of who wants it most.

They are definitely back in training. I can't see Welbeck starting, possibly Mustafi may start. We need to win both league games this week and hope that the toot can manage to get something from the match against Chelsea. If Chelsea don't drop points in the three tricky away games they play, then we don't stand a chance of catching them.

We can do nothing about Chelsea until we play them in a few weeks mate, our job now is to make sure we are no more than 9 pionts behind them going into that match, if they slip up between now and then happy days but the fact is we absolutely can't at any stage.
If they draw and we draw too that's one of the few chances we're likely to get wasted an a game less go.

{Ed001's Note - off the top of my head, no. One of your ex-players did say that he has it on good authority there will be no spending done in January by Arsenal, but I am not convinced he is correct. I will ask around once I have finished the match previews for the New Year's day games.}
