Martinez superb again tonight. Confident, dominates his are and has accurate, quick distribution. Should keep the jersey for me. :-)

Agree Davros.

He hasn't put a foot wrong.

I would say it shows more in our lack of trust for sheeza than how good Martinez is or has been that we want him to remain our no1.

The things I notice with Martinez is our defense seem more confident in him when they give him a back pass and his distribution and kicking is much better, this installs confidence alone the backline.

But I agree heshould keep the jersey.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope he keeps his place. iv said it all along he's a KEEPER

I will support Ramsey til the day I die.

But Jeez, he was poor again.

(Or maybe he just seems poor because he hasn't reached the dizzy heights and goalscoring of last season).

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That is exactly why Dags, he was never going to hit that form again

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Dec 2014 23:58:40
Very true Bambam

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with dags, he's looked really poor recently. Terrible passing and trying too hard to get back to that level. Given time he'll get back there but he needs to be patient and concentrate on getting the basics right before the wonder goals!

Looking a lot more like we did last season before Christmas the last 3 games, not always fantastic but effective at getting and deserving 3 points and! Not conceding soft ever so Arsenal goals. Good job tonight

Plenty of huffing, plenty of puffing, no houses being blown down, but we won, so that's all that matters.

Great character, if nothing else.

Take the positives.
1) we won.
2) 3 clean sheets on bounce.
3) we have Alexis Sanchez.

PS, amazing save by Forster in first half when he tipped it over the bar.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Could you carrying watching that for another 2 and a half years. Thank god for sanchez.

Agree0 Disagree0

If I was Shezza I would be a little concerned about my place. . . . . . . .very impressed with our 3rd choice keeper

Agree0 Disagree0

We didn't play great our passing was really poor. But koscienly still is a boss and martinez is looking like a half decent keeper. Looks calmer then shez and his handling and decision making was fantastic. Would be really disappointed if he gets dropped for him.

With all our injuries we still can bring on giroud and podolski. Onwards and upwards

Agree0 Disagree0

Remys goal was good. I still think he walks into our team. He knwos where the net is

Agree Derby.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags would it be Foster or Schez for you? Martinez has done very well, I enjoy seeing the young guns hit form!

VDG,

Love Shez but Foster always impresses me.
His reflex saving and positioning are 2nd to none.

Unsure on foster dags not his biggest fan mate.

Reading the post it annoys me when fan go on about Campbell and Podolski

Modern day football has changed and players have to offer services both ways, attacking and defensively. If you watch Joel Campbell he offers nothing defensively, same with Podolski. This is why Chelsea sold Mata and the reason Ben Afra struggles to kick a ball now days.

Ox and Sanchez have been amazing at both covering and getting forward. Yes there are exceptions such as Ozil (who does get back, but just isn't very good) but you accept that from a player of his ability and cover as a team, playing him in a less defensively needed position (such as no.10 role)

Campbell doesn't deserve to start, the EPL is to punishing for players that only worry about attack (which we have found out the hard way). No he can not play as ST as JC and Podolski can't play with their back to goal and we play with a Target man. Which is why Sanogo started above them at Dortmund.

Yes he probably could go to another team and score a hat full of goals, but as Chelsea showed sometimes selling a good player can actually make you a stronger team

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree about Podolski, not seen enough of Campbell, however looks like Inter want them both.

I'd be happy to see Podolski go as he is far too good and expensive to sit on the bench, but would love to see Campbell given a chance as he is young enough to develop his game for the EPL

Hello,

Not so much a banter post but after some info.

How many tickets can you buy with a Red Membership on the arsenal website?

My partner is going to buy me and her a ticket each for a christmas/ birthday present as I've never been (only proper arsenal supporter I know).

I've never been able to afford to gp before so any help on how tp do it would be very much welcomed.

TThanks in advance guys :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As far as I know, just the one mate.

Depending on opposition and what type of game it is, ie PL or cup game, possibly 2 tickets.

Is our 0.5 player Diaby.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Dec 2014 12:54:59
Have we as a club from top to bottom subconsciously devolved a non winning mentality?
From board to manger to players to fans are we all deluding ourselves that we were contender's each year but in reality accepting our place as best of the rest.
Our initial instinct is to say NO we are still a big club with big ambition's, but are we?
Has flirtation with the big boys unwittingly become enough

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I just think its being realistic which is refreshing as a lot of boards would have had 5/6 managers in over the period and none of those club behind us have done any better than us.

As fans we dream of more, demanding more of what the team is capable of, whishing and dreaming that this might be our year. but if we take a second and be realisitice we have not been the best team for a number of years, the era od UTD/Arsenal being the best two teams was a time when teams were built over period and consisted of a few marquee players and mix of home grown talent.

the 2 teams sat at the top noe are the only 2 teams to have jump ahead of arsenal in that period and both have had hugely wealthy sugerdaddys take over the clubs. had football not gone down that route then arguably we would still be top of the tree.

the truth is that we are best of the rest and have been for a few years, people seem to think wenger has under achieved for the last few years but I would say actually he has just achieved what's is expected of him. we have finished 3/4 and that is realistic where we would rank in the prem, he has not under achieved but what he has not done is exceeded what would be realistic.
I hear lots of people saying he should quit and we need this manager and that manager, and a lot of these managers are at club where they have managed with no expectation, if we are going to replace wenger then it needs to be with a manager who has excelled and won leagues and cups. people like Martinez, Koeman, are not an upgrade of what we have and there for no answer to the issue that we have in that we have a good manager who has done great things and is currently maintain the status quo.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Dec 2014 14:56:54
Look at our game against United for your answer, we're the pretty boys who get so far in life and can be glad of having a comfortable life. But our looks are fading

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Sheeny, comfortable is a great word to use, they do what's expected and that is it.

the Utd game for me was a bit of a double edged sword, it showed why we all get excited and want more from this arsenal team and also show why we are silly to expect to win and put our selves up with Chelsea and city.

if we had more belief and had that must win attitude we could have won that game 3/4 nill and would have all been raving but now we see that as just another example of how we can not compete.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red Dog.

Just to clear up what I meant before.

I understand that the money dried up when Dein left due to the stadium, but we still had a chance to sign players that were within our budget.

We could have had Hazard for 18m, Benzema for £20m and Mata for 25m in 2010. Any one of those was more than a possibility and we ballsed it up. Dein would have gotten us one of those players.

As for Wenger not giving youth players a chance. Campbell has basically been a ghost this season. Cazorla has been awful but still gets picked ahead of the Ox who's probably our most in form player bar Alexis. And then he plays a centre back at right back and a left back at centre back because he's too afraid of playing a young and promising right back to bring some much needed function to our defence.

Might clear my point up a bit mate :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And a very good point it is to cig mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry ^^ that was meant for CIG, no offence RedDog.

And no offence CIG either, just think you were a bit harsh on Cazorla

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Dec 2014 15:03:45
CIG with you on dein and the players.

As for Caz I agree he's been awful but he's been playing through the centre Ox is absolute muck through the centre. He was simply rested the other day, I think that's fair enough.

Chambers has never played CB other than our pre season and maybe 2 half games since then when debuchy was fit.

I don't know why people keep going on about this. I agree he looks like he has the shape and skill set to be a top CB and I'd personally play him there but that would be out of position.

He is an RB. Before that he played RM, and has had a small bit of time in CDM apparently but not professionally.

Agree0 Disagree0

RD,

Cazorla has not been awful, he has played well, I think AW still see's OX as an impact player from the bench but he is pushing hard and will be a starter soon.

As for Hazard and Mata I think we did try our best to sign them, the ed's may know more but I think they chose Chelsea over us.

Agree0 Disagree0

wenger thinks hel win the title during this contract he has. i'd be amazed if he pulls it off

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hard to believe that all teams who have worked out how to beat us are suddenly going to forget how or that Arsene's tactics and principles are suddenly going to start working again after being out of steam for s long
In the 10 years since the invincibles we have finished an ave 15 pts behind the winners and have finished 2nd once 3rd 3 times and 4th six times.
Why next season or the one after that be the one

manu are clicking into gear and that's a worry for us. need a win tonight plain and simple.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There'll be top 3 by Christmas and looking to strengthen in January, they are serious about getting back to their best again ASAP.
Its disappointing how short our period of finishing above them looks like lasting

Agree0 Disagree0

We should of took advantage and moved further ahead but we havnt and its a chance gone. shame

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't worry about them, they were lucky last night they didn't play well, we need to start beating the teams around us like southampton tonight and we will soon climb up the table

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Dec 2014 15:05:56

nice to see benteke back. bad injury and a silly red card but he may push on now. I rate him highly still young and if we ever sign him i'd be chuffed. the buys a beast. has pace. he's tall and can finish. better than both giroud and welbeck

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You rate Benteke that highly Derby? I liked him at first but I haven't seen him perform the way he did in his first year in a while. Still Bony or Lukaku for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think out of all of them on his day benteke is the best. time will tell if he can continue to recover from his injury. i'd also say he's had to play with lesser players out of bony and lukaku. can't be easy fighting relegation year in year out. but he's without a doubt better than what we have

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Dec 2014 15:07:42
Villa should have sold after his first season. They got greedy, they could have made a handy £25m then on him but wanted £40m

Agree0 Disagree0

They sell him they go down. Hence they wanted so much

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Dec 2014 07:25:40
All this tallk of Thierry Henry returning to the club will not happen in the short term. It is clear that Wenger only employs backroom staff that are not a threat to him. The likes of Pat Rice, Steve Bould, etc are not a threat to him, whereas Henry or Bergkamp would be, hence they will not be employed by Wenger, until such time as he decides to leave.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its my biggest concern that Henry returns as manager in waiting under Wenger's wing for two season's then Arsene moves upstairs in two years time but retains control of transfers and spending.
I think letting go of all that power is not an option for a man who believes he's the only man really good enough to run our club.
Hope I'm wrong

Agree0 Disagree0

Would everyone really be happy with Henry? He's a legend no doubt and will be back at Arsenal one day but we haven't won a major title (excluding the fa cup) in 10 years and he has very little managerial experience.

I for one would be disappointed. I would like us to show ambition and bring in a world class established manger such as Klopp, Guardiola, Ancelotti etc to take us back to where a top club should be.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Dec 2014 08:39:50
Am I the only one who really hopes Henry is not our next manager. Great player does NOT equal great manager. Rather see Bergkamp as assistant to Klopp or Guardiola.

Agree0 Disagree0

No top manager would let Arsene continue to influence things so its either or imo, if Arsene moves upstairs immediately only a rookie or a lap dog would be happy too take the job.
A two or three year gap from Arsene's influence would definitely be needed and then a return would be brilliant.
Dont get me wrong Arsene has been brilliant but HE IS NOT ARSENAL FOOTBALL CLUB he's a man who has served the club fantastically well

Agree0 Disagree0

Most definitely G62. He isn't the type to take a seat upstairs and let someone else get on with it. When he leaves his post he mustn't go into some sort of director of football role. Which begs the question, if he does leave at the end of the year where will he go? Will he set off for pastures new? Back to France? International management? England could do a lot worse than recruit someone with Arsene's qualities.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would expect him to work with the French FA either as manager or in youth development.
I don't see him going to a club side as a manager
But in 2 and half years time will he be able to give up the Arsenal mangers job? Or will he cling to power for as long as he can convinced that one day he will win the league and it will be done his way,! Scary movie or what :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Dec 2014 15:16:57
G62 I would have no problem Wenger looking after transfers these days. He hass shown he has no problem spending since we got our new deal And he still doesn't spend frivolously.

Ozil and Sanchez both accredit his personal touch to signing. I think a problem we have in such a global market is the competition is so great to find emerging talent that Wenger can't just pick them at will from the more obscure leagues and put a contract in front of them because everyone has there eyes out.

It used to be possible alongside managerial duties but now its such a massive job that he can't possibly hope to perform both roles to a high standard.

I honestly think him in the Dein role would be a revelation. I'd outsource contract terms given our wage bill but imagine Wenger with little responsibility but to scout secure and develop talent. That's precisely what made him a revelation in the first place.

A tactician then with a good report on the sidelines working in tandem would suit me perfect. Henry I believe will prove to be a great manager. Ruthless intelligent and boundless class on and off the field. But he has years to go before he takes the helm of a Prem team.

Whatever happened to Jenny Taylor and Flybo?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - last I heard Jenny went for a walk on the beach with Ed025 and has never been heard of since.}

03 Dec 2014 07:57:35
Its very sinister Ed.
The plot thickens :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - copius amounts of Southern Comfort has probably seen Jenny forget who she is and where she comes from. Flybo is probably busy tracking down Abu Diaby, I hear he thinks he is in the Emirates after a tip off from Ed025 on a beach walk....}

Two quality poster's gone missing, bad news :-(.
Plus Jonny Page who lived in the rumours section, he always asked good questions.
I feel these three being out injured for most of the season so far has more to do with our slump than Theo Ozil and debuchy put together ever could have . Jenny Jonny and Flybo your club needs you Now more than ever

Seems to happen every couple of months, reg posters stop and a new batch come in.

I think it might be that when an issue arises the same topic is discussed and re discussed for months. Old boys get frustrated with the same topic leave for a while new batch come in as new topics of discussion emerge, some of the old boys come back and the process repeats.

At the end of the day we've been doing the Wenger out for the 3/4 years I've been posting. Gone through the same cycle myself. You and dags seem to have real staying power :P
