I think wenger is going to be given atleast 70m because he only spent 10m of his 40m jan budget and he would have been given 60m in the summer anyways like they said.
players that arsenal needs are
david villa 12m
stephane jovetic 22m
mats hummels 20m
matt Phillips 5m ( like alex ox chamberlain)
pepe reina 8m
this would guarantee arsenal atleast 3rd

Hmm I'm more inclined to take charlie's view; Nasri always quick to rise to insults - stuff gets to him, his arrogance and bluster is how he tries to compensate. Out of France team & now a bit part player at city, am sure his ego is going to be bruised.

i would like to see podolski spending 20-30 minutes each game on the right hand side. I think he could do damage cutting in on to his left foot.
i think this would improve his goal tally quite a bit.
champagne charlie
Believable10
Unbelievable13
I would love this, he has an absolute hammer! It's what Nani does, Adam Johnson, Bale (opposite foot), love it when a striker cute in and puts it in the corner, f there's one man at the club capable of that it's Podolski. Like you say, 20 mins here and there interchanging with Theo in our 'dynamic front 3' as Wenger calls it.
Metal Gooner
Agree5
Disagree0
Totally agree charlie. Was watching the game the other day with the ox cutting in from the left and that put the exact same thought into my mind. How good would podolski be cutting in from the right.
It does rule them out from crossing the ball in really as both Podolski and Theo would be useless at crossing with their weaker foot. But that's not really a strong point in our game anyway.
That would probably open up a few more avenues to goal against teams like Stoke that park the bus.
Aussie Gunnah
Agree1
Disagree0
Aussie gunnah,
we can leave the crossing to the full backs.
when you cutting in at speed you are likely to get more free kicks and penalty's.
i just feel are wingers like podolski and walcott do not get enough fouls against them.
i just do not think we play to podolskis strengths.
it would be interesting to see how many goals rvp scored over his career cutting in?
maybe some 1 could find out the stats?
i am not talking about all the game but a little more interchange with the forward line would do no harm.

Happy with the three points yesterday. Always nice to do over Pulis. Nearly hate him as much as bombhead Allardyce. He's certainly pushing him a very close second. You know how much it hurts them both to lose to Arsene. Haha I love it!
Pulis commented on how Arsenal have more resources and therefore can buy a better quality of player. Fair point Mr Pulis, but how do you explain a club like Swansea. Who spend far less than you and yet produce a far better quality of football. Maybe it's because you don't want to. Or maybe it's because your incapable. I'm thinking it's the latter.
Stoke are trying to become independent from England. So they can turn the Six nations into Seven.
Sorry that was poor, but I couldn't resist. ;-)

I heard that over the last few years they've spent way more than us. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the figure was around 100 mil?
Nick.
Agree10

I think they have Nick - and Pulis has come out and said the same about losing to City - "Well we were up against £200m of players, money is what has beaten us today' or some sh!t.
End of the day the fact he even classes us in the same bracket makes him ignorant. We have earned all that money by match day/ticket revenue and player sales, and by paying back what we borrow. Stole essentially stand for everything we oppose, and he seems to be most proud of that.
Like I said before, any manager who sets his team out in a 550 and leaves three strikers on the bench is setting their stall out pretty clearly - no desire to play football. 8 away goals says it all. Every week you see dirty tactics in their game that come straight from the training ground too. No appreciation for football as an art when played at it's most elite level.
Metal Gooner
Agree4

Yeah Nick there was an article on newsnow that said that there was a 120mil disparity between what stoke had spent and what we had spent.
Since 06 something like
Stoke 80m
Arsenal -40m (thats a negative)
I would think that even if you included the difference in wages paid to players, it would still have to be very close.
So really, that argument is crap. He's just a rubbish manager really.
Aussie Gunnah

They have spent approx 100m more on transfer since 2007 I think but arsenal wages is more than double theirs. (125m vs 50m).
So not that much difference

Realistically I don't think we'll be coming close to catching City at all this season, so for that reason I hope they beat Liverpool. If we were closer to City on points I would hope for a draw so that Liverpool don't catch us up too much yet City don't get too far away - but we're never going to catch them so good luck City, would much prefer you to win the league than United.

337 you made an interesting point about the get stuck in defenders ceasing to exist.
I would agree but also disagree. I agree the pace of the game has increased so much that defenders need to keep up and this has obviously been at the expensive of brute strength and dominance. but also I look at the best defenders in the league and am not convinced it has changed just due to the league, I just think manager are so caught up with midfielders and attackers that the defence has been neglected in most teams- ours is a prime example!
For me the best defenders in the league, putting social issues and occasional reckless tackles aside, are the biggest ones - or ones who play the same way Keown etc did, with that much strength. Maybe not as big but certainly as strong. Kompany, Vidic, Terry, Richards, Lescott (some don't rate him, he's still a prem winner and a monster. the English Mertesacker? lol), Vermaelen of parts of last season, Koscielny of last season, Williams, Shawcross, Huth, Hangelaand, Samba, Jones (Man U), Rio, Agger, Kyrgiakos - these players either are or play like absolute monsters on their day and to me the difference between them and the Campbell/Keowns is really not discernible to me anyway. If anything, the only thing that has changed is that managers choose pace over talent - see Wigan, Southampton, Reading, Villa, West Ham, Newcastle for details - or won't fork out for the monsters as they cost a fortune.
I think too much is being made of this idea that defenders are different - they aren't, not the best ones anyway, they just cost too much! Because they are such all-round athletes and technically proficient.
Just wanted to talk about it a bit, saw Shearer comment midweek about how defences are slacking and it got me thinking, then I saw your post, so yeah.

He looks like he can defend. certainly was not closing my eyes everytime he got the ball or player was coming near him like at the emirates on wed against liverpool.

Is it just me or does pulis need to take off his rose tinted glasses. I don't understand how he can critisce the arsenal players for supposedly surrounding the linesman. The question should be why the linesman put the flag up in the first place. Granted if Walcott scored form a rebound yes it was offside but get a grip. Pulis should be more concerned with his horrible tactics of trying to injure players. Best example was shawcross on kos. Two very different attempts to take the ball. One eyes on the ball other well if I don't take the ball ill take the man.
Very pleased with how the squad backs each other up jack squaring off with Owen and arteta with shawcross. I believe with a couple of additions the core of the squad are genuine title contenders just need a few options.

Stoke are a rugby league team. So anti-football it is untrue. Pulis should just shut his mouth as his players are representative of him and play like thugs. Even Michael Owen has turned to the dark side!
Did the Arsenal players run to the linesman, yes, but did they shove him or do anything untoward, no. Stoke should go back to their caves as they are neanderthals and so is their football!

We've already played 3 of the 6 teams that could be expected to err, take points (?) off of us. We've played City, Chelski and Liverpool. We still have Man u, spurs and everton (but i'm sure we can beat everton at home and the spurs should be a given). Every other team in the so called seven (including us) has, before today, only played one other team from it. Everton have played none, and so surely they will start to drop. spurs have only played Man u. Chelski have only played us ( and they're dropping points against everyone). So we should be getting at least 3rd if we put a run together and actually show some CONSISTENCY.

The scoreline flatters to deceive. In reality Szczesny could have had a nap in either half, the defence was hardly worked barring a few corners and we dominated possession. We had a brief moment of creativity in the West Ham game that saw us bag 4 goals in 10 mins. We had a similar assault on their goal with The Ox bringing 2 ridiculous saves out of Begovic, Koscielny's epic header (considering the direction he was travelling and facing) bringing out another brilliant save, Giroud inexplicably trying to set someone up instead of scoring, and perhaps one or two other efforts - and if we'd been anywhere near as clinical or fortunate as against West Ham we could have seen a similar smash and grab 3-0 or more win.
Instead we were very unfortunate but we held onto the ball well against a tea, who weren't there to play football. We did our job and were good for the win. Starting the game with 3 strikers on the bench proved exactly what their intentions were and they nearly pulled it off, but in the end, a comfortable 1-0 win.
