Another thought on Berbatov! Could we not buy him by the yard?
Pay Fulham a £ for every yard he covers per match and pay him 50p a yard.

There would be weeks he only cost us £2 in total and of course there would also be games he didn't play the full 90 mins and cost even less :-)

G62, he will owe us money every week lol

If wenger dosnt want to spend 30 / 35 m on a striker the that's all he has to do is but Hernandez from utd pace deadly in front if goal and works hard that would be my choice any one else

Berbatov?

Not an Ozil statement or a guarantee of goals we crave but?

The more I think about it the more I am thinking what harm could it do!

And just maybe he would be rejuvenated in our team and become the bargain of the window when we look back in May.
No disrespect to NB who has done okish with a couple of goals but
0 0 with 15 to go in a must win game! If you had one sub left and both Berbatov or Betner on the bench which one would you send on to score or create a match winner?
Might just be worth a nothing to lose punt me thinketh

Was walking down the street with my wife this afternoon and she accused me of being ashamed to be seen with her.

So, I text her from across the road and told her not to be so stupid.

Women, heh?

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags you think that's bad? The other day I caught a peeping Tom hiding in my garden booing my wife!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol Golds,

My next door neighbour accused me of spying on her the other day.

I have never been so insulted in my life, in fact, I was so upset I dropped my binoculars.

i think berbatov in an arsenal shirt would be like putting a kid in a candy shop, so many great players to play alongside,, the man has complete control of the football and the speed of thought to use it to great effect. he also has maybe a few points to prove before he retires, lazy looking player yes but given the chance to play amidst your current crop of players he would definatly up his overall level of performance. win win i, d say.
as a liverpool fan and a title hunting rival I hope you don't get him!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Two comments:
1. His work ethic is too low for Arsenal
2. Liverpool aren't "title hunting rivals"

Agree0 Disagree0

We have as much chance as you Paul.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Liverpool are definitely title contenders, much respect. But we are contenders too, along with Chelsea and City. May the best team win.

Anyone else NOT want Berbatov in?

Something with him just doesn't sit right with me. Just wondered what everyone else thought?

My pipe dream is Lewandowski but it remains just that. Can't see Wenger signing Falcao, Costa or Martinez in January and have a sneaky feeling, now that Yaya Sanago is back in training, he might NOT sign a striker or winger and go all out for someone like Draxler in the summer and maybe one of the top strikers listed above.

Thoughts on a postcard

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I understand ya views but I think a lot of people are missing the point. If we got berbait would only be till the summer to stat off with. with the service he would get at arsenal he will find the net plus it could be his last chance to win a title so he would probs up his game

Agree0 Disagree0

Berbatov kis ectremely lazy, slow with occassional touches of genius. In my opinion he has lost it and is no better than Bendtner. Would be a waste of time and money!

Agree0 Disagree0

For £2m, Why not.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we don't need him we shouldn't sign him. Remember when Newcastle signed Asprilla in the "I'd loove it if we beat them" season? He didn't have a good attitude and lowered those around him.
In the opposite way signing Ozil has raised the game of others, I believe Berbatov would lower others.
If we go for anyone as a backup who can offer a plan B I'd say a poacher like Hernandez at United or a player who can get on the end of crosses like Bendtner. just with a better attitude; maybe Dzeko? I only mention those as they shouldn't require time to settle in the prem and won't have a preseason

Agree0 Disagree0

Total no brainer for 2 mill.
he would make a difference and gives options

Apparently Arsenal are looking at Betbatov. Just a rumour, but I heard it on tv radio 5 live yesterday afternoon.

Just checked out of interest and here is his games to goals ratio:
Tottenham 2.6
Man Utd 2.3
Fulham 2.5

Who'd have thought his best stint was at Utd? I'm neither here nor there on him, but if it's him or Bendtner with no other option, let's do it.

Giroud's is currently a goal for every 2.7 games.

looking at the fixture list it makes grim reading, and this personally means we need another striker in. At the most crucial part of the season we have all the big teams where we could slip up.

Sat 8th feb - Liverpool - Anfield
Wed 12th Feb - Man U - Emirates
Sat 15th Feb - Round 5 - Unknown
Wed 19th Feb - Bayern - Emirates

we follow this my playing stoke at home then we have stoke away at the start of march which is tough but then again he tough fixtures follow.

Sat 8th March - Quarter - Unknown/ Swansea -Emirates (IF WE don't GET TO THIS ROUND)
Tues 12th March - Bayern - Allianz
Sat 15th March - Spurs - rubbish Hart Lane
Sat 22nd March - Chelsea - Stamford Bridge
Sat 29th March - City - Emirates

then going into April.

We could possibly have two champions league quarter finals either side of everton away. Looking at these fixtures I only think its paramount we bring in a striker and possibly another winger/cb. Also not picking up near enough maximum points of these games could put us down the league and out of the title race.
This means we need to take maximum points from all our fixtures in jan and start by beating spurs to keep our morale high and momentum otherwise going in to the big games we could lose our grasp on first, go out of the Fa cup and the Chamions league, these games will really test our resolve as a team.

signings I would like this Jan

Striker 1st choice: Jackson Martinez 2nd choice: Berbatov 3rd choice: Pato (being realistic)

Winger: 1st: Greizmann (spelling) 2nd: Lacazette (overall if the ox comes back strong we won't need a winger but if so these would be nice and as a cb just Kurt Zouma.

Predictions for saturday 2-0 to the arsenal!

Any truth in the Berbatov rumours?
or the "Little Pea", Hernandez gossip

Diego Costa, what a lovely dream, but I personally think it will remain just that, CL cup tied, lots of moolah for a striker who can't play in Europe this season

Berbatov. Could this be a SMOKESCREEN! rumour for us actually looking at somebody else. Personally I hope so as I was a bit disappointed to think we could not aim a bit higher than him. I'm hoping this is a rumour to put other clubs off the scent of our real targets.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As long as the smokescreen involves us not getting Berbatov I am happy!

Hi Ed's, Who do you think Arsenal will sign this month?
Thanks!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I can't answer that without guessing Sam. I can tell you where I know of interest, but that is about it.}

so I keep seeing the same old names being thrown into the ring for our janurary striker shop, so I thought i'd grab a few out of the box names and see your thoughs, ed's too if you like?

Hugo Almeida
contract is almost up, 29 so not over the hill just yet.
has 12 from 19 games this season so he can still find the net. cup tied.

Freddy Montero
buyout in his contract, has good amount of goals 21 in 37, not cup tied, but possible WP problems

Alan
another with possible WP issues, but is youngish and still bangs them in.

these are possibly wenger style signings, but after ozil idk what hesplanning haha

personally i'd like almeida. would be a steal in relative terms of strikers cost these days and has quality enough to play first team football for us. if we chose to, he is ageing so might like to take it in turns with olly?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we go for Almeida we might as well get Berbatov give him a big contract for 6 months as his contract is up at Fulham anyway the guy was banging them in before falling out with Fergie a couple of years ago!

Agree0 Disagree0

Baz do you think he will step up his game if he were to sign for us?

Personally over the last few seasons he's looked lazy, disengaged and does very little to help the team.

Great penalty taker but very few goals from open play.

Maybe if he signed for a top club like arsenal this might change? I just can't see it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't you if you went from winning the prem to playing for Fulham ;) I joke I joke! But to be fair he is going to be covering for Giroud and I think he is a damn sight better than Bentner and looks to be in form at the moment has big game experience and championship winning experience so as long as it's no longer than a 6 month contract and then see where we stand in the summer. If he smashes it and scores the champions league winner for us lol. Who knows!

Agree0 Disagree0

He can't be on anymore than B52 at Fulham can he?

Evening Gents and Jenny,

I posted the other day, that due to our growing injury list, the fact we are doing well in League and still in CL, that we should, or should I say could, rest a few players for the spurs FA cup game and perhaps take one on the chin and get knocked out (lets hope the FA don't read this).

Now, somebody posted that we can't afford to lose against spurs because they are our enemies and we should be aiming to win every competition we enter, and I understand their point, to an extent.

However, we don't have the strongest/biggest squad, we have an injury list that's longer than my wifes xmas present list and I just think we should concentrate on CL and Prem League, especially the latter.

So, my point being, do we field a weaker team than normal and take a defeat against spurs or play our strongest and try to beat them?

Im going for the first option. what do you guys and dolls think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's a tough one Dags and a very good point you've raised. I would opt for a fairly strong team, not because it's Spurs but because I think we can have a real go at the FA cup. I know it's 3rd on our priority list but it's a trophy we really have the means to win. Every team has their flaws this year - City's defence, Chelsea's attack etc - so we could beat anyone on our day, even if we haven't done so well against top teams in the PL.

Plus, it's 9 days after that until our next game so I don't think fatigue will be a huge issue for the Villa match. I would leave out any injury worries, but otherwise play the strongest team possible. Maybe even the same side who faced Cardiff, except for Rosicky coming in for Arteta or Flamini. Other than that I'm not sure we have strong enough players in reserve. Can only think of Fabianski, Jenkinson and Gnabry who will definitely be fit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Zelalem could be starting. He's been training with the 1st team again

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say put out our strongest team Dags. If we beat them it may give us enough time to re- group and hopefully march on and possibly win the FA Cup and by that time we may also have bought a couple more players to strengthen up. From a financial situation the further we get in the CL the better. But from a satisfaction situation winning the FA Cup and PL is more of a reality for me at the moment .

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags
I'm with Oleg, put a strong team out to beat the spuds. It's at home too, so AW won't take the match lightly. Then 9 days will be enough to prepare for the next match. Any players with slight knocks should not be risked.

But 2 words of caution.
Firstly AW has looked after players like TR7 this year - making sure he plays just once a week. It gets the best out of the player and protects him from injury. So the team for the spurs game needs to include hungry players like Gnabry who hasn't played for a while. If a player is fatigued, then don't risk him.

Secondly, it's games for round 4, 5 6 etc that need to concern us - not the 3rd round match. How many times over the past 10 years have we had an FA cup game on Saturday/Sunday following by a CL match on Wednesday . and invariably our season ends in a space of 4 days.

So for me, we need to look to beat Spurs on Saturday. Only playing the strongest side possible because we have 9 days until the next match. But then stick to a policy of playing under strength teams if we progress in the competition as it'll back to the grind of 2 matches per week afterwards.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair points Gents,

I shall have a word with my mate Arsene and tell him to field a strong team so we can stuff the spurs lol.
