So you saying park, bendtner and chamakh are still at arsenal and wanted? despite the fact they are on loan and no one wants to buy them

and that we should have kept vela because he was doing soo well for us

Yes it's straight out of the Trotters independent traders school of business and we signed the blow up dolls.

How long have these defensive frailties been an issue? It's been going on for years now. He should've solved this years ago! AW has shown beyond doubt that he is incapable of assembling and organising a proper defence, one that is fit for purpose. He has a problem with goalkeepers too. The man has lost his touch. Our best players want to leave and he let's them go only to replace them with mediocrity. Spurs had an off day today - we actually had a chance to beat them, but our god-awful defending and lack of cutting edge undid us again. If there are any funds available this summer then I'm with those who say Wenger shouldn't be trusted to spend them.
As far as I can see anyone supporting him now is supporting mediocrity. Arsenal Football Club should strive for better than this. I feel genuinely sorry for Gervinho, Ramsey, Giroud etc etc. It's not their fault they are out of their depth - it's Wenger's.
Enough's enough.

I think the alarming drop in form of TV5 is a lot to do why we a making so many defensive errors. Remember TV5 when he first arrived was quality one of the best CB's in the PL, so surely he has not just turned into a poor defender there are reasons behind it.

I think the signing of Mertasaker was a big mistake. Not just because Mertasaker is too slow for our high line that we like to play but also beacuse this has effected TV5's game badly.

TV5 naturel game is to be the aggresive one push up attack the ball and the ball carrier. To do this he needs someone fast and mobile alongside him to sweep up if required. He knows Mertasaker has not got the pace to recover any missed attack by him so is unsure of weather to attack the ball in his naturel way or drop off himeself. This uncertainity leads to mistakes which in turn makes you more uncertain and you end up not trusting yourself and being too considered in your decision making. It turns into a viscous circle and your lose confidence in your ability. This is what has happend to TV5.

Kos and TV5 is a much better partnership and suits the high line better but because of injuries to one of them at any one time they have not had chance to cement their a stable long standing partnership together.

Another big problem which is compounding the defensive mistakes more is that we have a midfield 3 devoid of any defensive knowhow. Even if you have not got a specific DM you need to ensure there is always a shield in front of the back 4 at all times for when you lose the ball and are at risk of counter. When you have nobody meeting the ball carrier of the opposition it is much easier for them to make that defence splitting passes. If your compare Spurs midfeild to ours you will see in Parker and/or Dembele they always had this protection.

Yes we can see all these errors so surely Wenger can aswell. Will he ever do anything about it?.

He must Buy another commanding CB maybe 2 especially as TV5 looks shot to bits basically. And more importantly a proper defensive minded midfeilder that will protect the back 4 at all times. Also a experianced Keeper to give shez some competion to up his game and get more focused.

Stop this 4-3-3 as there are too many square pegs in round holes. It does not suit Walcott Cazrola or indeed Giroud Wengers first choice front 3 which makes us so ineffective sometimes it looks like we are down to 10 or 9 men at a times.

Giroud is isolated too many times on his own up front and needs a partner. He is a stay in the box striker not someone that will float around more and link up like RVP so let's play to his strength a little more and get someone alongside him, we need more box presence.

We have far too many central attacking midfeilders in the sqaud and not enough proper wide men to mix it up a little and give us differnet options and tactics.

We have good players but the sqaud is just so out of balance it is crazy. Any decent manger should be able top see this, but Wenger seems to think Arsneal can play in this idealist Total football way and anybody can play anywhere and fact is very few players can play like this.

wenger just does not get it - we are not barcelona we are the ARSENAL
stop the side pass namby pamby football and play the direct penetrative football we used to play 10 years ago. wilshere is probably the only player that can do it. (ox if given the chance) the team need to have a long hard look at themselves. if you want to wear the shirt play as though you mean it. too many back slapping old pals in the team, passing like the chuckle brothers 'to me to you' we need fighters like jack who are not afraid to show their talent. have a clear out including the backroom staff and build a team around the likes of jack ox walcott and only bring in quality not the second rate drivel wenger signs. lloris vertonghen parker dembele all players that could have been playing for arsenal today (atleast they show fight and hunger). bring back keown to sh*t the defence up into playing like a defence, because at the moment we are going nowhere - players out of position -zonal marking - no one leader dictating the team play pattern - wenger has lost the plot. we have 10 games to turn it around or wenger should do the honourable thing and resign. I want my old arsenal back.

ok yes we lost. just alittle to say.
1) walcot and giroud should be dropped. chambo and podolski need to start.
2) sorry to saybut this time lady luck will not be on our side. 5th is oursnothing more or less.
3) I still believe vermaelen is great. just take offhis captaincy and add a DM. pair him with koscielny.
4) the reason
a) carzola plays wing
b) ramsey starts
only God knows.
5) yes we lost but atlist with a fight and yes bale is better than walcott.

Walcott has scored 18 goals and won Arsenal's EA player of the month 2-3 times this season. Secondly Ox has been seriously out of form this season. Thirdly Vermaelen has been just awful since the defeat by Chelsea at the Emirates.

Arteta is a decent player but for me he's average nothing special on par with garnero and Allen I know he's playing in the holding positions but most of his passes are sideways he's definitely not the player he was at Everton he had a good season last year but this year he's been poor just my opinion

Arteta is no fabregas he is replaceable he will be no major loss to be honest stootman or verrati would be good buys

Amazing the two of the most disappointing players this season has been our captain and vice captain.

Agree3 Disagree0

That's been my view from day 1. He's not arsenal quality. Almost every other team can point to a player on par with arteta. Peinar at everton, Allen at Liverpool to name 2off the top of my head.
He was bought to replace Fabregas - now you can spin it any way you want about them playing "different roles" but he was is replacement, end of story. And arteta just ain't in the same league as fab.

Agree2 Disagree1

Lay off Arteta. He was one of our better players today. Not that that says much I admit but I just don't understand how anyone can put him down. We won one game without him in the league last season and that was against Agent Fulop's West Brom for crying out loud!

Gathering you're a spud so i'll just make it clear for you so you can get it through you reasonably thick head. we have funds, more funds then you sacks, we just don't have a manager who is willing to spend any of it. complaining about more signings? oh duh, of course we are. Wenger hasn't addressed nor seen the fact that we have defensive weaknesses and has overcome the fact that we are desperately in need of a DM and a quality CB. So keep your sticky beak out of our page and go worry about your own club. Before you go on to say that your the better team, just remember. when was it that you last won a title yourselves? This is the first year you're above us, and as I hate to say it, you do deserve to be. But still. you'll always be in our shadow.

lets be honest today was a terrible result, we were the better side for a lot of the game but the same problems come back to haunt us time after time. why can't a proven german international and the capt of belgium defend properly. I can only think its down to the training. we don't seem to know which way we want to defend from the start who is responsible for defence training one of the ball boys maybe. we can still finish 4th but it depends to much on others. be honest when the opposition get a corner or free kick don't you just sh*t yourself as an arsenal fan

I bet in training our team looks brilliant, but only because our squad is so weak.

Shezza - no one at Arsenal can cross or take a good corner, or shoot from distance, so Shezza's weaknesses are never tested

Theo & Giroud v Squillaci/Djourou/Mert/Miquel - the strikers probably win all the headers, skin the defenders for pace, I bet they don't stop scoring in training, especially with Flappy or Mannone or in goal.

Cazorla, Wilshere & Arteta v Coquelin, Ramsey, Rosicky, Diaby & Frimpong. In training I bet no one can get the ball off of the midfielders, mainly because they all play the same and are just wimps.

Nacho, Gibbs, Sagna & Jenks v Gervinho, AA23, AOC & Podolski. The full backs never train against fast, flashy, skilful, determined, effective wingers. Crosses probably never beat the first man and they are never hit on the counter attack because there is no speed against them.

TV5 & LK6 v Chamack, Park, Gerv, Bendtner. The centre backs probably look like the best in the world against these losers.

And so it is no suprise to see Le Maniac scratching his head and wondering why? when we come up against other teams we aren't up to our high standards in training?

The starting 11 picks itself, there is no depth or competition in the squad even though the number of internationals is clearly sufficient. The problem is the starting 11 players only look good against our reserve 11 (which is even worse with all the loanees away).

Once again we have been Out Fought & Out Thought.

Jack10 stays, and I'd consider any offers for any other player.

I thought the midfield were excellent today, Jack Santi Aaron Arteta all had a great collective performance, Jenkinson has to be one off the best crosser's of the ball we have. now the way I see it one of our biggest problems today was Giroud, we had no problem getting the ball into dangerous areas or to Girouds feet but he isn't technically good enough or quick minded enough to deal with that type of football (imo) but that's tactically how we played the game, so how the hell can Wenger not see this and not take Giroud off and get Podolski on in place of him, great with his feet, quick, he is a better 'on the floor' player than Giroud will ever be. so how does Wenger think by disrupting a perfectly balanced midfield that really wasn't being troubled at all and replacing possibly our best defender on the day was going to win us the match, you could have put any player on instead of Arteta it wouldn't have made any difference as Giroud didn't know what to do with the ball when he got and would end up giving it away, and then you put a player who is on a yellow out of position (just to add a little more pressure to the guy) when the player you took off was perfectly comfortable anyway.
Ive forgiven Wenger for a lot off things but tactically today he virtually gave AVB a dayoff, I bet he couldn't believe his luck.

I think the thing i'm most annoyed about today is that Spurs weren't actually that good, I really was anticipating a bit of a beating to be honest but they were there for the taking and we weren't up to it.

Well said, I went 2day and giroud was a waste of space,, everytime he got the ball he lost it and that chance he had any other striker would have least had a strike. on the bench a german striker who is better and should of started even if he was playing on the left made 3000 arsenal fans fuming,, and taking jenko off who was playing well and can cross the ball was replaced by ramsey that just goes to show wenger hasn't got a clue. every arsenal fan says the same thing but your guna have a couple of odd balls on here the don't agree. all I can say is roll on end of season because this is a disgrace, j lockwood

Agree5 Disagree1

Yes Spurs I thought were very average today and Bale was quiet.

That is the concern though is that teams know they do not have to play well to beat us because they know we have these silly defensive mistakes in us that will cost us goals everytime. It does not matter how much possetion or pressure you maintain if you make such silly errors of judgement in the back line you will 9 times out of 10 lose the game and gift oppostion victory. It almost as it we have to score 3 or 4 goals to ensure victory which you just can't do on a game to game basis.

We need two quality CB pairings that Have pace, strength, mobility and arial power which Mertasaker does not have and they must be leaders and get the back line working together. Yes these will be costly but they must be signed. TV5's form is alarming and I just do not know what has happened to him I just do think he he is tune with Mertasaker atall and uncertainty breeds mistakes which makes you lose confidence, making you think twice and doubt yourself and it then turns into a vicious circle.

More importantly we need a proper DM that will give the essential protection to the back 4 without that it is too easy for a opposing midfilder running at the back 4 to pick passes to the runner ahead of them and that compounds the uncertainties at the back weather to push up or drop off. That was what happened today on both goals.

Enough is enough, why settle for second best. We have no divine right to win everything and I accept the footballing world is a different place now to what is was when Wenger took over the reins at Arsenal.

We do though have a massive fan base across the globe and pay the highest prices in Europe if not the world. I'm a gunner of almost 50 years and have been through numerous ups and downs over the years but roll forward to the last 10 years. Wenger inherited a solid foundation and added the flair to make us an attractive and successful proposition.

However, to coincide with the move to the Emirates came the asset stripping. Quality players left (some having reached their sell but date and some maybe not) but not replaced by the same ratio of like for like. We no longer have a solid spine or leadership within the team.

Great youngsters playing teams like Bolton or Blackburn off the park in the league cup but where are they now and are there any trophies in the cabinet to show for it?

Are we a better team than 3, 5, 7 years ago?

Where are we going strategically?

We have a board comprising of an American who is not a true gooner. When he does bother to turn up at the Emirates he only sees dollar signs instead of fans. What every gooner really wants to know what benefit does he bring to our beloved club?

We then have a third generation of the Hillwood dynasty who treats us fans with contempt and is out of touch with the current status of the game.

Then there is Gazides who again is not a true gooner; just another businessman who managed to negotiate a huge pay increase which you and I are paying for.

Even if they had the balls to challenge Wenger, dare not sack him, would you trust these guys to find a suitable replacement and or allow his replacement to have the freedom to move the club forward?

I once thought we only needed two or three players to make us a force once again but now I think the issues are more deep rooted and require time to address and am not convinced Wenger and the board are able to or are right to resolve this situation.

I agree we should not single out or boo players, even though there are many far too many to target given the overpaid garbage who shouldn't be allowed to ware the famous red and white but we do need to direct our frustration at the money men who are currently profiteering from our hard earned money. Maybe direct the anger prior to the start and during half time/end of the game at the directors box for change otherwise you will not see progression and it will be a case of the same old, same old for seasons to come.

Yet another big game we've failed to win, to often in the recent past, have we been talking about the same problems. The same defensive errors appear game after game, why don't we coach the team properly, the pundits after the game spoke of it, one went as far as to say why does Wenger feel he and his staff don't have to spend much time on it when every other team does. And on the issue of coaches we've got to many yes men at the club when Pat Rice left we should of got somebody from outside the club. We've got only one keeper who seems to have taken a step backwards this season. We could of had LLoris though if we wanted he was desperate for champions league football when he moved last summer. We've got a right back who doesn't look like he wants to be at the club and Jenkinson who despite playing exceptionally well this season was dumped for sagna. We've got no defensive midfielder why does this club think they don't need one? Every other top team does; Real have Alonso and Khedira, Barca Busquets and Mascherano, City Toure and Barry and Bayern Martinez, Schweinstiger and Gustavo. We've had ample opportunity to get one yet we haven't. We've got no real wingers, Podolski out of position. We've sold our best players and failed to replace them season after season. Giroud is a decent player but no Van Persie and that just highlights the step down in quality we've seen we should have both of those players or one of RVP's quality and Giroud. No cutting edge upfront. Our Squad is at its weakest and thinnest, we've got this farcical wage structure in place meaning top talent doesn't stay but many mediocre players are comfortable not playing with their high salaries. We've made poor signings recently highlighted by Santos and Gervinho. Yet again this week the papers are full of talk of the profit we've made, nobody knows what the board are doing what the ownership want, a chairman who thanks us for our interest in his affairs, a manager who refuses to spend the money we have, we get told we've got millions to spend but then never do, we hear one thing see another. We get told the same thing in each press conference and after match interview. Wenger talks of the confidence the team has then after the Bayern game Wilshere said we lacked just that and were a little star struck. This club needs a serious shack up and questions need to be answer, but I'm tired of watching our rivals take steps forward while we move backwards, there are top managers out there who would die for the arsenal job, coaches who could bring something to the club and quality players not all with big price tags that could add something to the squad so why are we stagnating? We are now 7 points behind Spurs and 5 behind Chelsea, I believe we can get fourth, but its going to be very hard and for me isn't enough we deserve more we've crashed out of so many cups recently, Liverpool should highlight what can happen and what we must avoid if we fall out of the top four. Here's hoping we make it and for some exciting changes in the future.

I have said in my previous post that I would not berate AW anymore till the end of the season, but I am, HOW IS THAT MAN STILL MANAGER. I have said before that every player apart from Jack was brought in by the AW. One win, One draw, 5 Defeats against the sides above us, knocked out of 2 domestic cup competions by lower league sides, on the verge of being knocked out of champions league, saddled with inferior players brought by the manager who should be brought to account for it. Well 2-1 again a basic defensive errors costing us giving us a mountian to climb in 2nd half. You just can't expect to win games making such errors and it was in period we were on top which it makes it more annoying.

Marks anyway:-

Schenzy 6:- can't Really be blamed for goals. Did O. K but still needs to improve his distribution.

Jenkinson 6:- Attacked well in first half but needed better crosess. don't understand why he was taken of a Ramsey moved back strange one?.

Mertasaker 5:- Just too slow to play in a high line got caught behind the line for 2nd half playing Bale onside. However in a way because we know of his lack of pace we should accomadate him more by playing off his line and droping deeper. I knew we should have played Kos today.

TV5 3:- Terrible, what has happned to him is alarming he was class when he first arrived but seems to have lost it. Being captain may not be helping but he should be communicating and orgainising much better. It not like he is inexpericed. He was caught side on so many times and was not in tune with Mertasaker atall, unsure to play offside or drop off. No awarness of Lennon for 2nd goal.

Monreal 5:- Made a error with TV5 in 2nd goal not to keep running back with Lennon trying to catch him offside. Ok otherwise.

Arteta 6:- Worked hard and along with Ramsey kept Bale pretty quiet. They still need to work together better to always provide a defensive sheild to that back 4 at all times when one goes forward. Although chasing for equalizer in 2nd half was always likely to leave us without this protection.

Ramsey 5:- Not good enough for first team in my eyes workes hard but offers little attacking wise when he goes forward although had that chance to equalize. To be fair should not have been put into the RB position for Jenkinson, that was just odd.

Wilshire 7:- Again our best player and gives is usual driving performance going forward. The midfield 3 combination just leaves us too exposed and we must change this to provide more protection to the back 4 on the counter.

Cazorla 6:- Links well with Monreal but little influence in dangerous areas. Why he plays wide left I do not no, again a case of Wenger playing square pegs in round holes. I just hope he does not end up like Arshavin.

Walcott 5:- Pretty ineffective really, but with spurs playing deep did not have the space to run into. 4-3-3 does not suit him either.

Giroud. 6:- Fair play he battles hard and gets stuck in and did give the Spurs CB's a good fight but had little service or support.

Subs

Rosicky 6:- Did o. k in 2nd half but coming on for Jenkison and moving Ramsey to a position he has not played before is just strange.

Podolski 6:- Little time but much effective on left than Carzorla why he does not start more games I do not know?. Almost socred with a instictitive shot

Overall silly defnsive errors cost us yet again but this 4-3-3 is just not suiting a lot of the players we have Namley Walcott, Cazorla and Giroud the exact 3 players playing it which says it all. Carzorla playing left when he should be centre AM and Walcott needs to be up top alongsde the big man in Giroud or possiobly Podolski. 4-3-3 suits Podolski better but for some reason Wenger does not start him, just odd.

Midfeild is too attack minded to play with just 3 and offers next to zero protection that is why often our defense gets caught out trying to play offside because there is nobody meeting the ball carrier, which is what the DM needs to do. Thsi it not the excuse teh mistakes teh back 4 made today but it woudl help if we had somebody to meet the ball carrier when we lose it in midfeild.

To me it seems linked with TV5 his form has just dropped alarmingly. When he first came here he was one of the best defenders in the league our leader the orgainiser and the one we played off. I think captiancy has not helped but also the injuires to both himself and Kos as not helped either. CB's need stability and he have not had a stable CB pairing.

I still think given a run of games togther Kos and TV5 can be a solid partnership again and are our best partnership still.

The Martasaker signing seems to have upset the apple cart a bit and to the Big german is just not suited the high line we play as he is just too slow and clumsy basically. This in turn makes TV5 uncertain to play his naturel high line game or drop deep to protect Mertasaker and he is being caught out so many times in two minds. The lack of a real DM sheild also compounds this uncertainty even further as nobody attacks the ball carrier when we lose the ball in midfeild. Today was classic highlight of this situation on both goals.

I can't help but think with Vertonghen having such a immense game today for Spurs that we should have signed him insted of Mertasaker.

We can blame the board for this terrable season but for me the main culprit is wenger.
What goes on in his head? Ramsey now at RB wenger has lost it big time. We could spend 200 million next year, with wenger still in charge we have no chance

So obvious some of his mistakes

Santos given way to many chances at left back
Zonal marking all season when clearly not working
Not buying a ball winning midfielder when its clear to the whole world one is needed
Ramsey played in every postion possable when better players for thoese postions not picked
Selleng robin. TO MAN UTD

I could write all day but to depressed to carry on I am sure fellow fans can list plenty more mistakes by wenger

My view on the game I watched. Disappointed to see some of the early comments made.
Firstly apart from 5 minutes in the first half we were never troubled. All the talk of how to defend Bale and the primate stayed hidden I the back ground.
The 2 goals. Can't say anything else but poor. Defence shut down and we paid the price. Dissappointed in szczesny taking the biggest side step out the way of Lennon for the second. Think he was more interested in complaining to the ref that Cazorla was down. We all know the rules regarding that. PLAY TO HE WHISTLE.
I've said it from the start of the season. Giroud is not good enough. He may have scored goals but when it comes to big games and decisive moments he chokes. Today 1st half, 1 chance and he bottled it! In the words of Rafa Benetez. FACT!
The positives, we DID create chances. Ramsey, the usual target for abuse played very well. Spurs were nervous big time. They were handed 2 goals. With 10 games to go will they get nervous again? More than likely. Will they get as lucky. possibly not. We are chasing not just spurs. Chelsea are far from out of reach.
Will be interesting reading the thoughts of the rest of you.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

Agree apart from the Giroud comment you have to give credit to Dawson there it was last ditch tackle that he made with perfection there. Time will tell with Giroud but for his first season he is double figures, which is no mean feat. Also this
4-3-3 is not suiting him as it is not suiting Walcott and Carzorla either, he is just not getting the support he requires. You have to blame Wenger there for playing a 4-3-3 that is just not suiting us atall.

Agree4 Disagree2

Fact is they say a great team wins even if they don't play that well. That's what spurs did tonight a good game and the right result

Giroud is a far better Striker than the light weight Walcott, Poldolski should play up front with Giroud, And Walcott on the wing, Sorry Wenger But Your time is up, BIG Time

Wenger press conference tomorrow! Better team, we had all possession, played with handbrake on, officials were poor, unlucky in final third, delighted with spirit in this team, oh yes and lastly this is best squad we have ever had! He is f##cking deluded or plain stupid

Believable9 Unbelievable2

To be fair to Wenger he admitted that well just did not defend well enough in those key moments of the goals which were carbon copies of each other. He also said we were not efficent enough in attack and the final ball was not there which is true. So he clearly knows the issues are there but the issue is what does he do to try and help his team reduce these mistakes and does he know how to recify them more to the point.

I think we criticise Wenger too much in his press conferences when by and large he makes factually correct comments.

What we should be questioning Wenger about is what he is going to do to try and reduce the risks of such defensive mistakes. a lot of the time it's due to the lack of defensive shield in front of the back 4 making the back 4 indecisive to push up or drop off and also because of this ineffective 4-3-3 and that none of the midfielders having any defensive knowhow. Also the signing of a slow and clumsy Mertasaker in a back 4 which likes to play in a aggresive style high line, which I think is a lot to do why TV5 is having such a bad time of it at present. He was class when he was first here, and you do not lose that quality just like that without reason.

There is still hope and not forgetting Chelsea are close to us at 5 point ahead. The next few games for Spurs are key with Liverpool and Man City to play along with the two Inter Milan legs in bewteen if they lose their way there we can still catch them.

The problem is are we confident enough to say we will pick up the points to captilise on any slips?

If we are honest who expected to win today?

We do have class - cazorla, wilshere, Walcott - but we have far too many players that would never have got in our starting line up 5 years ago.

Our great club is going backwards!

I don't care who is to blame the board, wenger whoever but we need to get the cheque book out and buy 2 new CB a new right back, a great defensive mid and a world class striker

I am sick of paying fortunes for season tickets and not getting players worthy of the arsenal shirt them publish cash in the bank of £123 million

I have supported this team for 30 years no matter what but the current arsenal regime focuses on filling its pockets rather than the people that make the club - us lot the fans!

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Out of that £123m, £24m of it HAS to remain in the bank as a condition of the bonds. £40m will be kept just in-case a top four position isn't achieved and some will be day2day costs. There is probably around £30m/£40m there that can be used for transfers. That would still buy two decent players so I understand your frustrations. The club was clearly lacking a striker and a midfielder and Wanyama & Villa for example could have made a difference.

Sydney!

Agree3 Disagree3

Why do all fans think they have a say at the club because they CHOOSE to spend their money on tickets, shirts, etc? Do you go into tesco and inform them how you'd like them to spend their money?

Agree2 Disagree3

Sydneys got a point. Just because you have cash doesn't mean its there to spend. And espically not all on transfers. Arsenal need cash like any other business to actually stay in business and while I do not know of this condition with the bonds that would be a very serious one to break. Also considering we need money for loan payments and such its good to have a high cash reserve.

Need a gk of top quality to replace shezzer.

A new pair of CB's in my opinion. Verm looks clueless and mert just isn't good enough

A dm because we lack a specialist to do the job of protecting the back 4.

A top class CM to replace arteta. the guy is good if you enjoy someone who can play side to side with no cutting edge.

A winger is a must, the lack of width we have is ridiculous, we need someone who will stay wide beat his man and swing in a good ball.

Giroud today was shocking and has been in every big game this season. Need that top quality forward who can do something from nothing and if given a chance finish it.

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Arteta was immense today what wer you watchin? Simple. cazorla can't play wide, can't influence the game out ther nd his head drops. drop ramsey for podolski with wilshere nxt to arteta

We just weren't good enough. their defending was very good and our attacking strategies became predictable to them.

2nd half they could have gotten 2 more goals if they had converted some pretty clear chances.

We should be classy Arsenal supporters and admit when we were beaten by a team that was collectively better than we are today.

Wenger we're really tired now. The players efforts were there, i'm afraid that their peak potential is just not that high.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

The thing making 2 silly erros and going 2-0 down made it easier for spurs to play on the counter in 2nd half which is what they are good at. We were actually the better side for the vast majority of the first half without having many shots admitted.

I reckon if it were 0-0 half time Spurs would have tired in 2nd half and we would have won but having the 2-0 lead gave them a nice platform to hang onto. We are our own worst enemy.

Our lack of communication and indecisivness in the back 4 which what costs us more than anything else and costs us more than what the oppostion do.

Agree5 Disagree2

Totally disagree - You can't say if this had happened, and that hadn't we'd have won. You could rewrite every match in your favour on that basis. Fact is we continue to make costly mistakes in big games. It happens time and again and is symptomatic of of a defensive unit that isn't up to it.

Can anybody explain me the logic behind
tacking off jenkinson and making Ramsey who is already on Yellow card play as RB.
If he didn't want to change the formation then simple take Ramsey off.
Jenkinson a better defender than Ramsey + a better crosser than Ramsey.

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Tell me what makes you angry about the fact a lot of us here really do not rate Ramsey, is he good enough for man city, man utd, Chelsea or even Tottenham?

The answer is no.

So should we except and defend him when he plays for arsenal Paul?

Shaneyd

Agree3 Disagree1

Shaneyd

Is Giroud good enough. Is sczeszny good enough. Is mertesacker good enough. Is vermaelen good enough?.? It's not the fact people don't rate him its when people use him as a scapegoat. He was never put at right back today. We went 3 at the back despite comments to the contrary.
No he may not get into the gems you mentioned but he is what we have.
I won't defend him when he plus BAD but today he was better than most

Agree1 Disagree0

Paul where was the hate on Ramsey, the poster simply said Jenko is a better defender and better crosser!

Personally you can't fault Ramsey for effort but IMO he offers little for the team. The manager is to blame Jenko was playing well, Giroud had a stinker, Theo did little to help the defence! But the main culprit for many faults has been our captain!

Agree1 Disagree0

Paul to be honest none that you mentioned are good enough in my opinion, tv5 I am at a loss to what has happened to him, Per not cut out for the premiership style of football, Giroud needs to play with someone along side him, sczeszny needs competition, R amsey I have said enough but all in all though wenger is the one to blame, the balance of the team is wrong, people playing in the wrong positions, tactics wrong.

right well. I have stuck up for wenger on numerous occasions!

firstly though how easy is it too score a goal against us? its the basics, we give ourselfs too much to do from silly errors,

I know there's gunna be a lot of stick on here. and so there should be. even going forward we run out of ideas, and last ten just boot it

How many clear cut chances and saves did lloris make? exactly, and I bet wenger comes out saying we were the better team. JUST because WE HAVE POSSESSION, what's worse we have to dwell on this for 10days, there were 7 tottenham points in the gap, anyone in an arsenal shirt want to shoot them down? BETTER F******* DOO!

Chelsea and benitez is our best bet, but maybe one step back two step forward, maybe wenger will realise ifwe don't make champo league that our team isn't good enough, and maybe stan will go in his pocket when he stops making money?

or maybe he will sell if there's less money coming in? (heres hoping)

but if we do end up in eurpopa league its less money! WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? do we need this to dawn on us that we aren't what we used to be?

something has to change. but today we lost due to basics. now that is down to wenger, OFFSIDE TRAP WITH MERTESACKER! WTF! atleast perfect it.

COYG. soak this up boys, we are wounded badly, but WE ARE AND MAKE THE ARSENAL. soak it up take it on the chin.

WE WILL BE BACK.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Mertesacker wasn't great but vermaelen didn't have a clue where Lennon was for their second, he is having a bad season, need two decent cb

Agree4 Disagree0

Catching Up With Spurs! We should never even be in this position. Wenger to blame. No Doubt. Midfield had it over them, but the flanks (crosses are crap) run into blind alleys. However the most serious fault is not having anyone up front who can SHOOT. FFS! How many saves did Loris Make?
Why was Podolski brought on so late?
I am in total despair. Who coaches the defence? Wenger does. In his own words " I do all the coaching".
That is arrogance. I will not attend Europa league games next season!

Seriously give me an account of they he starts ahead of rosicky and why he has played ahead of Walcott and ox on the right and why he goes to right back when the one we had today was so dangerous in the 2nd half,

Yes not his fault wenger plays him everywhere. but please tell me what he adds to our team.

Eagerly awaiting your response

Shaneyd {Ed027's Note - he got us the free kick, which we socred from

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Clutching at straws ed027.
And the one one one he dragged wide, and his poor cross that went 10 yards beyond any of our forwards.

How can anyone seriously defend him?

Should he play ahead of rosicky?

Shaneyd {Ed027's Note - he should play in his position, he was the only one trying before he got shifted to right back, and Rosicky, please, he wouldn't even move after he passed the ball. Ramsey was fine. You and most other people are just clutching at straws by blaming one player, where has theo been since he signed the deal? where was Santi? What is our defence doing? what is wenger doing?, these are the question that should be asked, not blaming Aaron for every god damn thing that goes wrong

Agree1 Disagree2

Wenger is to blame he picks the team, if you say rosicky passes and does not move then to be honest Ed 027 then I will save my debates for the other eds,

We can blame a number of players but to say that about rosicky is the most amazing unbelievable thing written here.

To all that support this site do you agree with eds 027 statement about rosicky?

Hope you post this Ed.

Shaneyd {Ed027's Note - of course i'll post, but today when we needed a goal, he wouldn't go forward, how many times did giroud and poldi look for the one two, he just wasn't there. If i'm honest I love the guy, last season he was just awesome, but this year most the players look like they leaving at the end of the season, so i'd say Rosicky and others wer'nt giving there all

Agree0 Disagree1

I didn't think Ramsey was to bad at all today, didn't feel he did much wrong for some who is playing along side 3 players like Jack, Arteta and Santi your always going to be the 4th best midfielder on the pitch.
Our only problem today was TV5 not really wanting to be a footballer anymore and Wenger having no clue whatsoever to do with substitutions.

Agree1 Disagree1

I got to say I agree with Ed027, yes Ramsey has been poor at points this season, but he has put some good shifts in and works hard for the team. He has become any easy target though because he is being used as a utility man with Wenger playing him out of position, which isn't his fault, people should lay off him a bit there a bigger issues with the club than the performance of one player who is actually trying his best unlike some. {Ed027's Note - I mean why stick him out wide, or at full back, play him where he feels comfortable, alongside someone in the centre, remember when him and jack outplayed Utd at the emirates? and we won 1-0, that was after his leg break, and that was in his position

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Mar 2013 18:07:25
Well 2-1 again silly basic defensive errors costing us. Got caught in two minds trying to play a offside trap on both spurs goals when we should have been dropping off and following the runner.

Mertaskaer is just too slow to play in a high line and is just caught behind the rest of the back 4. Also the lack or cummunication and leadership at the back is alarming. Mertasaker as the slowest should be the leader and the line should go off him not Vermealean who also had another shocker aswell. Just what has happened to TV5 not sure. Often playing side on and not seeing the runner in behind him.

Until we sort this out and stop making such basic errors we will never compete.

I hoped we may just sqeeze the equalizer, Ramsey should have scored. That sub was a bit odd moving a midfielder back to RB just to bring on Rosicky.

7 points I think is too much to catch up now but we may still have a chance if Chelsea slip up.

Oh why is ramsey so poor?

Why does he lack any creativity? He goes forward just to pass the ball side/back?

Why did we not put more effort into the pursuit of Verhogeton instead of Mert? He's been the difference today with his interception's.

Also when did we become a long ball team? Never been the way we played but for the last 20 we've been pumping it up there!

Why I'm on my rant, wenger with all his French connections and we couldn't even sign lloris- how many points would he be worth?

We need serious investment to reinjuvenate our squad.

Giroud lasted because we have no one else who could play CF effectively not that he plays that well but that's the only place he plays so he gets that spot and Wenger that stuborn b*****d won't buy anyone else and won't give podolsky a chance up front.

We seriously should stop buying players (specifically attacking players) from the french league. We anyways don't buy the best like Benzima/Riberry/Hazard from that league and anyone else is not worth it.

I am worried as I find myself agreeing with Sydney!

A little worried about a 'big bucks' takeover by 'non football' people. Yes, it would be nice to be competing on a level with The Mancs and Chelski, however at what cost to our football?

So we would be one of 4 English clubs where money is no issue when it comes to signing players and paying their wages, then would a couple of other clubs like say spurs and Liverpool also be bought by equally powerful people? Then there would be a mini league of clubs all competing for the EPL and Champions league and only one club can win each trophy, still no guarantee's.

I personally would rather we had success by our own merit, it would be much more of an achievement to show the others a footballing lesson rather than a group of overpaid mercinaries going through the motions.

Anyway, expecting a lot of disagrees but that's my opinion.

Back to today, we will win (3-1 is where my money is) as long as we give 100%.

COYG

337

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Well I partially agree with you. I don't want us to aimlessly start spending money on players just for the sake of it. however I want this takeover to happen simply because we need an ambitious owner. and i'm not totally against it if they invest money to clear our debt etc. that's natural when you consider it, right? because it is what it is, an investment that could turn into profit if it means we can use the money we have generated on new players.

Agree0 Disagree0

337, Iceman, what I think you mean is you wouldn't mind being taken over, but you would like to fund the transfers yourself with your own generated revenue? I have said the exact same thing in regards to a United takeover. If United were debt-free the club could spend £100m every summer and still break-even. Arsenal could spend £50m a summer and still break-even. I am with you that I would not like to be put in the same category as Chelsea or City, or even Liverpool more recently.

It seems most of the Arsenal fans are hypocrites although you haven't had much to celebrate over the past eight years so it's understandable to a degree. That being said a takeover such as this would end Liverpool's hopes of ever making the top four again. That can only be good news for us Mancs ;)

and then hopefully push on for a strong finish to the season which will still leave us unfortunately trophyless.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

When you hear "investment group" and "consortium" it can be a worry, but they would surely be a better option than Stan Kroenke? One thing I do think is odd is them saying they will clear the debt. The debt is manageable at around £20m a year. It seems odd to pay it off quickly and pay the hefty penalty fees that goes with paying them off early.

Agree3 Disagree0

I heard that part of the group involved is head of the the emirates company that we are in debt to, so fees may be softened or even waiverd, I however would like arsenal to keep going without a sugardaddy. but done see stan leaving without one sooo i'm in two minds.

Agree0 Disagree0

How are we in debt to Emirates I thought they paid us for naming writes of stadium and the shirts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal do not owe Emirates for the stadium, Emirates are a sponsor. Arsenal borrowed the money from the Royal Bank of Scotland (I think). It's a bond scheme due to be completed in 2031.

Consortium takeover would be a dilema for long suffering Arsenal fans. On the one hand we've enjoyed taking the moral high ground regarding FFP and 'financial doping'. On the otherhand all our dreams could come true with the wave of a wand: the debt disappears and serious investment in true world class players allows us to compete at the top table. Personally I expect most fans to vote for the latter.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Difference is we have self sustaining model, so even without investors we are in great position, all the other clubs were on their knees.
so still moral high ground :)

Not sure about the point your trying to make. Yes we have a self sustaining model - but 8 years of failure. The consortium bid would consign the model to the bin but perhaps bring success - thus the dilema.

The point was we dnt need sugar daddy, just need the board to spend some money and kick ass. something current board are not doing. no pressure=no trophies

This is not meant for a post but don't mind.

Ive been an avid fan of these forums for many years and always listened and been involved in the Arsenal Forum.

The Ed's on the site are doing an amazing job, always ready to give their opinion which usually has been backed up my great knowledge.

It has also come to my attention that many people on the Arsenal page, be it a fan or a troll, have battled the Eds for quite a while now.

Its a shame that it gets to a point where Ed2 stops posting.

I applaud you for your great work and wish you well for this site for the future.

Agree - Can't see the point in abusing the Ed's when their supplying an excellent service which is also free to use.

Really hope that this takeover is legit and can happen.

Kroenke must be highly considering the offer if true in my opinion. To walk away with a 400mil profit from a team you have no interest isn't a bad return for 5 years work. Or should I say going to 3 games and sitting in your ranch which has had more investment.

I could also see the possibility of a bid war because surely is usmanov is so keen on the club then he has the funds and fellow business partners to put together a similar offer

Not sure I like the timing of this consortium news. Normally a change of owner would have the players chomping at the bit to impress. However, I fear most of the current team know they are not good enough and will be surplus to requirements if/when this goes through. Not the mind set I wanted going into the spurs game.

the best thing about the takeover would be slashing ticket prices. bring some atmosphere back to the club instead of champagne and caviar librarians that use it as a weekend time killer. imagen a stadium with atmosphere like Porstmouths used to be

Believable3 Unbelievable0

I'm a librarian mate, we don't make caviar money -:) It's accountants and solicitors texting on mobiles making all that silence.

I think they're just telling us what we want to hear. £1. 5B would take our club even further away from us, that's my worry.

Agree1 Disagree0

Why on earth would a group of businessmen slash the price of tickets when they are sold out at current prices?

Empty seats at recent games and publicity from everyone about shocking high prices would probably be reason enough to lower prices. and the fact it puts fans on their side straight away

Scored 10 in last 2 games vs spurs and Wenger has beat AVB 5-3 and 5-2. Bale never seems to step it up against us. Going for a 3-2 win Podolski, Walcott and Wilshere scorers. Jenkison to mess up Bale with a challange early on.

Getting taken over by Arabs? NO. I don't want that. I don't want Arsenal to become the new City or PSG. Is £80m-£90m for one window enough? We don't need a sugar daddy's billions.

Pretty interested to see what comes of this take over story but thought I'd share some of the issues David Ornstein of the tv had with it; "Not saying there isn't interest or bid won't arrive (always possible) but would be rejected. Parts of story unusual & timing suspicious.
Takeover experts spoken to all say valuation of £1. 5bn is way over the top for Arsenal, especially if no Champions League.
Serious Middle East interest never advertise plans. Qatar/UAE buying together v. unlikely. Long-winded anonymous source out of character
Not questioning Arsenal takeover story but Kroenke has absolutely no intention to sell, is adamant he's here for long-term. " Again just sharing for fans not saying I agree.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

One of the stipulations for the offer to come through would be us making a champions league spot.

Anything that says Consortium on the end of it relating to football club takeovers sounds well dodgy to me.

Add to that Kroenke has said he remains committed to taking as much money out of the club as he can. Lol.

Whenever the word consortium is mentioned it reminds me of the only fools and horses episode where the 'consortium' buy the gold - God help us!

My look on how we play:

On paper we are a good side.

The way I look at it is our back four have no protection at all. If we could twik our 3 in the middle to two centre definsive mids infront of the back four and play the 3rd player just infront like a anchor man it should sort us out.
Obvi our wingers need to put a shift in, however;
the side effect of playing 451/4231 is that the TargetMan/Cf gets isilated. This is why I think Theo should play as a poacer and we play Giroud as a inside forward, for example like Fellani of Everton, Everton have mastered it and are doing well with a 'bad' team. If we could do that with the Arsenal flair and passing, who wonders what can happen.

About transfers we need two quality cdm's Capoue and Wanayma we will be alright but this means we will have to get rid of Arteta and someone else, who?I don't know.

People keep saying we should play a 4-4-2 formation. Not that I disagree with that, but I also think when executed properly, a 4-2-3-1 can be quite effective as well.

But in order for this to work, we need to have a top, top quality striker. Since we would only be playing with one, the striker needs to be a beast.

We did this last year with Van Persie and we finished 3rd. We didn't even have a great midfield behind him but that one good goal scorer can make all the difference.

Now we have the likes of Cazorla, Wilshere, Podolski, Rosicky, Arteta etc. but no lethal striker up front to finish off chances.

Giroud and Walcott are both good strikers, but unfortunately are not good enough to be the lone striker.

Someone like Falcao, Cavani etc. is needed if we want to play a 4-2-3-1.

Could you imagine if we had Cazorla and Wilshere threading passes to Van Persie?
We would not be 5th that's for sure.

Nick.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Spot on Nick. The whole squad is too unbalanced, we don't have the personnel to play any formation to its strengths.

Arsenal subject to 1. 5 billion dollar takeover bid from Middle East consortium according to some news sources. We're going to look like hyporcrites if its goes through but 8 years appears long enough to no longer care.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

Very much agree

Agree2 Disagree2

I don't give a crap who owns the club. the current board go on about self sustaining but at the same time don't even use the funds they do have to re invest to buy quality players. instead they pocket the profit. "self sustaining" to them seems to be a front so they can sustain 4th place and keep sustaining an extra 25 million or so pounds into their pockets every year.
bring on wealthier owners and give wenger the chance to buy players he REALLY thinks can win major titles and put fear into the even the likes of madrid and barca. SHOW ME THE MONEY!!

Agree3 Disagree1

I just want the current board to get a reality check and spend what sell, the last thing I want is sugar daddy owners with a stacked trophy cabinet and a handful of receipts for those trophys.

Please can all arsenal fans read the telegraph online! THIS IS REAL there are some new owners that want to take over Arsenal! I don't know whether to celebrate or cry we will have lots of money but it could mess up the club! the deal is worth 1. 5 billion we would be richer then even city and psg! Ed please talk about this subject {Ed001's Note - I don't have anything new to add, no one seems to be sure of their future at the club though. It all does suggest a takeover is in the offing, though I am not sure what info the Telegraph are basing it on.}
