Hi gang
I think we all agree we should have bought more than just Ozil in the summer and without any question a striker plus others in January, but the windows and ins and outs are closed for this season and we have what we have.
We can and I'm sure will have our hopes and views on players for next season once the summer window opens in June?
But for now let's get behind the team this season, the FA cup we have a decent chance, the league? We're 50% closer to top than 5th so dispite our chances slipping considerably we have an outside chance still, champions league? It ain't over till the fat lady sings! Although it has to be said she is clearing her throat ready to let rip at full volume in the next week or so.
Let's pull together for now and put aside the debate of how we failed so badly until the season is actually over:-)

G62,

Your enthusiasm is infectious my friend.

I am officially making you our cheerleader. Your uniform is in the post mate, hope it fit's, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

By the time Friday comes i'm always in a better mood. We are going to beat everton and win the fa cup. We are going to recover and win the league on the last day of the season and munich your toast. God I hate Saturday nights though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not the usual uniform I'm given with the pointy bits and bells is it DG?
Just for once I'd like to be Thunderbird one, F.A.B.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree fully in respect of getting behind the team, but it is so frustrating to enter the season without a 4th centre back, a top class striker and two sluggish defensive midfield players in Arteta & Flamini. This was further compounded by Wenger's lack of signings in the January window.

I know we lost against Stoke, but everyone has a bad run of games. We need to win a game against a tough side (like Everton) or we need to win the game against Sp*rs to give us confidence. We always finish the league in good form, and I don't see why this year will be any different. However, maybe this is just me being the optimist I am. We can only hope.

Had a look through the current top 5s fixtures and this is my end table

Chelsea 91pts
Man C. 86pts
L'pool. 83pts
AFC. 80pts
Spurs. 71pts

I had us winning our last 6 games!
Ultimately top 4 is a minimum and a certain owner will be doing somersaults, but the disappointment for me would be a 15 point swing between us and Liverpool. ( obviously my predictions are not garanteed just my opinion )

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thats fair shout Rocky mate and 4th place again would be a very very poor consolation prize this season.
I still think it might play out a bit better than that but I totally understand where your coming from

Agree0 Disagree0

On current form and remaining fixtures I think you could be right Rocky.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the positions, but think the gap in points between us and the Toot will be much closer. With the resources City & Chelsea have at their disposal they should finish above us and Liverpool didn't have CL to contend with and had poor domestic cup runs. They would find it much harder if they have CL next season.

I'll confess the stoke result cheesed me off and my first thought was "thats it for another year."

Now the dust has settled I'm taking the view that we've so far done better than I expected last August so I'm not going to jump off a cliff if we don't win anything.

Looking at the rest of the season and no offence to any other teams but all of the top 4 are going to drop points and take points from each other so we are still in it. ok maybe outsiders but you never know and we've always been better when no one expects anything of us. Only time I've seen us do things the easy way was 1991 and the Invincibles.

Lol all i'm saying is keep the faith

Mind you we MUST spend big this summer as Man United will be looking to get back into top 4, spurs will want to be in there, Liverpool will too and there still the Chavs and ManC so the top 4 is going to be very tight next year.

Please god I hope AW and the board realise this

EDIT of post below

With regards the Suarez deal, someone at Arsenal has let the club down, be it Wenger or whoever, we should have followed it up, we clearly did our homework and got the fact right.

Really not happy with the current situation, we are effectively 4th in the league after being top for so long.

Here is my prediction. we will finish 5th, we have too many tough games to come, if we can't beat Everton at home when we were flying why can we beat them away. Tottenham is perhaps the only one of the next 4 fixtures I think we have a 'Chance' of winning, Chelsea away. we couldn't beat them at home, again when we were flying, why can we beat them away. City at home? will we manage to score 1 more than them?

We look lack lustre and short of a spark, AW has much work to convince me this season will be an improvement

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it was not Arsenal's fault, they are simply not binding in the UK.}

Usmanov wins control of Arsenal and appoints you manager, he gives you £320 million to spend on 8 new players (ave 40 mil each) but demands the the 8 players you bring in start the first 10 games of the season.

Question is which 3 of the current squad make up you starting 11?
For me
Ozil, he would shine brightly with better movement
Kosciely, as good as it gets
Ramsey, along with Saurez was one of only two premier league players to make European team for first half of 2013/14 season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

GK: Neuer - 30m
DF: Lahm - 30m, Ramos - 30m, Shaw - 25m
MF: Javi Martinez - 35m
FWD: Suarez - 65m, Cavani - 50m, Hazard - 55m

So,
Neuer; Lahm, Ramos, Koscielny, Shaw; Martinez, Ramsey, Ozil; Suarez, Cavani, Hazard

What a team! Never ever happening though!

Agree0 Disagree0

G62, good shout. I'm going to go with the same 3 you suggested.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me, Wilshere and Ramsey are the future of the club. Wilshere may be having a rollercoaster of a season, but he is still young and by the time he is 25 he will be world class. Ozil is still the best 'No.10 in the world', he just needs his confidence back.

Casillas, Lahm, Varane, Kompany, Shaw, Wilshere, Ramsey, Reus, Ozil, Ribery, Suarez.

Eds back to the photo thingy. We post our photos onto the Arsenal sightings and leave our name. Be nice to put a face to a name. What do you think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - you could do, if you like. If you are so keen on putting faces to the names, when we get the profiles for the registered users set up, would you like an option to add a mugshot? It won't be any time soon like, as we have a huge list of upgrades for the profiles to get through, and not a lot of people to do them. Well actually, it is just one person who does all the coding, Ed033. Poor fella gets about 30 emails a day off me with new ideas, his to do list will probably keep him going for the next 50 years!}

Dammit, I meant to say, so you could send the pics in to the sightings page in the meantime.

The police will have a field day.

Ok good idea. You start .

Agree0 Disagree0

Eds, Do you accept prison photo's? (only joking)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - we accepted prisoners as editors already, where do you think we got Ed007 from in the first place? It was some kind of rehab thing.}

Ed001, good on you mate, i'm all for help in the community, lol

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I like to do my bit, though I have to say I feel like I am doing everyone else's bit by putting up with him!}

Ed001, we all need a carer mate, just don't give 007 any sharp pencils to play with or you might have social services come a' knocking, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - ooops.}

I wish Ed007 all the best with his rehabilitation but should he slip back to his old ways, would you ask him to get me a 3 D printer

where has it gone wrong as regards winning trophies. well where it is right is the business model, very well run club that makes millions of pounds, with great solid business foundations. why aren't we winning trophies. well every great team has a great spine, that's just all top teams basic ingredient. when we were winning trophies we had seaman then lehman, adams then sol, vierra, wright then henry. for me first we didn't replace vierra, next we didn't replace sol and next we didn't replace henry although I will come back to that. put any of them into th current team and well I don't need to say do I. or put it another way replace mert with kompany arteta with toure and giroud with suarez and there's a modern day equivalent. you can't replace 30 or 40 mill value players with 10 million value replacements. because usually what you get is 10 mill standard. if you put mert arteta or giroud up for sale today no one would pay more than 10 mill for them and no top cliub would be interested. by the way their respective clubs paid 30 mil for toure 23 mil for suarez and 15mil for kompany. we sold rvp and this explains everything, for 25 mil and replaced him with giroud for 10 mil. instead of adding 10 mil to it and replacing with a comparable replacement we did what we always did and went bargain hunting. that is why rvp left. ah but we built a new stadium you say and we couldn't afford to buy quality. now here is where the business astuteness doesn't mach the nous, hey rvp new like a few others we had 100mil under the mattress. so this summer we spent 42mil on ozil, all very exiting but did we really need an ozil or did we need a adams or a vierra or a henry replacement.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just to add to the post. The point I am trying to make is we had the best and never replaced them with an improved or similar version, we down graded when we actually did have money available and if we had upgraded we would have a better team we would still have money and probaly more, because we may have won trophies which would have improved our global appeal.

Agree0 Disagree0

I understand what your saying and it is very frustrating why we didn't go for certain players.
The way I see it; there was 2 options, 1 the safe option and 2 the risky option. By risky option I mean that arsenal could easily have gone and spent huge amounts on top quality players, using all the funds possible and hoped to recoup the money by winning trophies hence more prize money, more commercial money, more publicity etc. the risk here is What If, what if we didn't win anything? That would mean we would have had to go to the safe option with less back up as the cash reserves have been used.
I'm not saying that's what they did or thought, just what I think they might of thought.
Me personally I'm ok with the route the club took, i'd rather be at the top for a consistently long time, rather then a short spell of trophies leading to a huge downfall.
But when I said I was frustrated it was because we didn't sign players when they were more affordable, the players we missed out on from over budgeting IMO. Players like Ronaldo (13mil), ozil(13mil) after the World Cup, hazard, mata, falcoa, Gomez, kompany etc

Eds what do you and everyone on here feel about a rogues gallery where we download OUR faces onto the Arsenal sightings part if this site. No naked ones though. LOL

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - so you want people to wear some kind of mask then?? Not sure how non-naked faces would work as a rogues gallery......}

I must admit I look better in a face mask.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Ed007 wears his on the weekends, when he attends his special parties. I think he said it was a chimp mask, but it was all rubber and zips, didn't look anything like a chimp to me.}

Hi Ed any truth in the rumour Arsene is stalling on his new contract as he is unsure about what he wants?
I have had a feeling he might want to manage France while he still has a chance all season and lately he is looking more and more like a man who's tired of fighting fires constantly.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is not worth getting in to this.}

I don't think he liked the fans reaction last season & he will wait to see how France fair in the world cup & will take the job if they don't do well. I think his failure to sign a deal, undermines the club and it is time to leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

So it comes out that we did actually activate Suarez's release clause and he was right to be as miffed to the whole situation as we were. All I take from this is that Arsenal for once did show the right ambition, they actually did offer the correct amount. Its honestly the first time in years Arsenal have done that so for once no blame to the club.

Moving on. Lads I read your posts on here all the time and WE ALL see the glaring mistakes at our club. Firstly I will say straight off the bat, I for one do not think we are done with Wenger not at all. I think all of our frustrations with him are warranted though. When he arrived he was a revolutionary and his ideas were what is now the blueprint to all top perm sides. The problem is since then, everybody has caught on and done the same and we were forced to stand still while the books got balanced. Now we find other teams beating us at our own game, so much that our own game is unrecognisable to the Arsenal faithful. Lads let's be honest Wengers arrival and first few seasons were like the first time we ever went to Toys r Us as kids we were spoilt, the transformation from solid back four and grinding out results and singing 'one nil to the arsenal!' In the North Bank were gone. We were winning by 3 and four goals, playing fantastic football watching fantastic players. We all expected that to never come to an end, however it has well and truly finished and this season despite our climb to the top its impossible not to see that. PAUSE AND BREATHE!

WE PLAY THE WORST BRAND OF FOOTBALL WE HAVE EVER SEEN UNDER WENGER! that's right I said it! We went from fast incisive football that cut teams to shreds in the blink of an eye to slow, laboured non progressive football. For any Arsenal fan who doubts this statement ask your self this:

When was the last time we scored a goal on a counter attack? . Its ok I'll wait . Still struggling?

This simple question tells you all we need to know. We have no pace in the squad whatsoever. Chambo and Theo and Gnabry are the only pace players we have on attack. Chambo missed the first half, Theo the second, and Gnabry not in favour it seems. Without pace in the team you can only play slow laboured football. So whose fault is this? I can only point the finger at Arsene Wenger. The team has been decimated to the point that we have been forced to sign players (outside of Ozil) that are maybe men.

No matter what anybody says Giroud is not an arsenal striker, a squad player maybe but not the lead of the line. technically he is simply not good enough, he has no pace to get in behind defenders nor has he any technical ability to dribble past them either, so what does that leave you with? A forward who spends the majority of the time with his back towards the goal he is trying to aim at and this is a massive problem as it causes the game to become compact. So that's why we always see these little one-two flicks because that's all they can do.

How do we fix it?
1) We need to sign TWO quality strikers, strikers who have pace and are able to take on defenders and stretch the game.

2)We need WINGERS! pure dedicated wingers, hazard and Willian show you what two good wingers can provide, we have Theo and Chambo but we need more, Konoplyanka looked very impressive against Tott, that sort of player opens space for our midfield that have an abundance of goals to come in and score.

3)We need a defensive Midfielder that can actually play football. Arteta simply is not good enough he weakens us at slows us down immensely, its hard to believe he was an attacking midfielder all his career when you see his lack of forward passing. He should have given us xabi Alonso type player but simply hasn't, no pace either so gives away some really sloppy fouls. Also we need a pivot player who is true box to box. Jack and Rambo for me are not good enough. Ramsey only scored because he was the only one of the midfield three that burst into the box. However we suffered once we didn't have the ball because he simply couldn't get back, jacks defending is woeful a lot of the time and Arteta as said before is not good enough. With a weak midfield defensively and no point of attack up front and no pace on the wings, its amazing we are where we are that's the truth.

A final note on our record transfer buy. for all who want Wenger out, bare in mind that Ozil stated clearly Wenger was the reason he signed period! As a manger players want to play for him that's a fact, its just the clubs can never agree a fee, Higuain was happy to sign for us but the clubs couldn't agree a fee. An example of changing a manager and finding all of a sudden nobody wants to sign is David Moyes! We don't want that. As for Ozil everyone takes a season to find their feet and I firmly believe if we get better strikers with better movement and some pace Ozil's assists and goals will come on massively.

So keep the faith lads, we will not end this season with a trophy, but as always we can only hope that Wenger and the board finally understand the best takes money and its as simple as that.

Agree0 Disagree0

What a fantastic post

Agree0 Disagree0

Just want to put in my case defending Rambo here. He's definitely good enough going forward defensively he's astonishing! Before his injury he had the highest average tackles per game in the league as well as he highest tackle success rate in the league. Playing him next to Jack works really well (last time we did we beat united) but I agree that jack too lightweight and is becoming inconsistent. I think rambo next to someone like Toure, with Ozil in front of them would turn our midfield into something special. Someone like Junior Malanda.

eds, regarding Liverpool owners recent comments stating there was a 40mil release clause in Suarez's contract. how did they stop the transfer from going through?
isn't it against the law to not follow the clauses of a contract? thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I don't know how many times I have said this, but please ignore all of this stuff around "release" clauses.}

If you had a car that's worth £10,000 and somebody offers you £10,000 does that mean you have to sell it?

Of course not.

Release clauses are not worth the paper they are written on and do not mean a thing.
