Happy with a draw on Sunday - hopefully a score draw.
Nothing small about drawing with CFC away from home. I then expect us to win at home!
If we draw away and win 50% home against the top 4 - that's a step up on last year and a big points swing!
Main thing is at least a point AND a great performance

Sanchez on the bench for sure.

I'd take a point given the fixture but Chelsea are 6pts ahead. Have to start closing that gap

I know I've upset a few people by saying I'd accept a 1 0 defeat if it was accompanied by a competitive fighting performance.
Just to clarify I wouldn't take that now that would be pointless and not even worth turning up on Sunday, but what I meant and still mean is if we were to lose dispite playing and competing well I would find it an acceptable result after last years complete shambles away to the 3 teams who finished above us.
Disappointing results happen to all sometimes its how they happen that last longest in the memory and leaves the deepest scares

Just read some scary stats. Moureen 11 wenger 0. In the last 5 years we have played 20 top 4 games away from home, won 1 lost 16.i think there lies a major flaw, in wengers teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

Scary stats Steve and although I've woken up this morning with slightly more optimistic bones ( I think its just excitement) I still can't see how were going to improve on those stats this time round mate, and I've tried hard to tell myself we will I really have

It's a major flaw in our tactic s! Imagine , if we new in advance exactly what our opposition were going to do and how they were going to play , we could plan for it , set our team up for it and decide what was the best way to beat them! Oh wait , that's what all of our opponents do!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lack of any real metal especially in MF will most likely be exposed again, sadly Flamini is more likely to receive an early bath than a mom award.
We need fight commitment and real discipline in the middle tomorrow but from where?

It's not 11-0 steve.
it's
0W 5D 6L

Still not good enough though

Agree0 Disagree0

Its always the next one that matters most, I expect them to make it 7 would be very happy with a draw and well there's no time to fully explain how good a win would feel as kick off is under 17 hours away now

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry sheeny meant in 11 attempts still not beat moureen.

Whats with all the negativity? People accepting a 1-0 loss? We are a top team on a par with City and Chelsea. Anything other than a win will be a dissapointment.

Im going for a 2-3 win to us. Welbeck, Alexis and Ox to score. Fabregas to slip and concede the winner in true stevie g style.

Stay optimistic people!

If this comes true, I'll like you the most.

Afternoon all, G62 correctly predicted a 4-1 hammering of Galatasaray on Wednesday (also stipulating we'd play very well) although to be fair, you'd have to go some toplay BADLY and win 4-1!

I looked at that prediction pre game and thought, I hope it's that easy!

So, given your prediction powers, what say you for Sunday?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Can I plead the 5th on this one Doc as the backlash of abuse could be even too much for me to take :-)
My heart says well compete well in a very close match and get a point at least, my head wants desperately to agree with it but just can't find away to do it .
I've been wrong loads of times before as we all know, so here's to me returning to my rightful place of being the turnip head of predictions come Sunday.

Ridiculous decision by UEFA to investigate Arsenal for failing to search fans properly mid week against Galatasary.

How many flares were there? 5? 6? Out of how many away fans hell bent on causing trouble anyway. I hope it's just a case of following procedure as it would be very harsh for us to take the blame for another clubs fans.

On the same note any punishment Gala receive, example playing behind closed doors should be held off until the return leg in Turkey. Why should Dortmund or Anderlict benefit from an incident that happened in our stadium. After all Arsenal is the team having to replace the 100 seats that were damaged during the match.

You can understand frustrations at the absolute demolishment their team where receiving on the pitch. It was embarrassing. However the flares were coming into the stadium win lose or draw for Gala and surely our hands are clean and without blame.

I would suspect UEFA are more worried about every fans safety regardless what stadia it happened in and what fans are to blsme.

Finding out how they got in there in the first place is a good place to start, these sort of rules can't be relaxed on.

I think judging by past history, the home team normally get the 'blame', as they are in charge of security and checks and policing.

Turkish fans, literally get away with murder. Uefa have a blind spot for some federations and others like us get bans. If someone wants to commit arson, you can't blame the home owner.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've worked in Pubs n nightclubs and done a bit of door work in the past. When it comes to searching people (for drugs or knives) there is areas on the body you can not go near.

I'm not saying they stuffed flares up their Turkish delight pipe but anything hidden down in that general area would not be found. When you take into consideration the amount of people entering the venue as well, it would be impossible to stop all illegal items coming into the stadium if persons so choose it.

Always nice to hear from our closet gunner but Ill reiterate. Arsenal FC can not be held accountable for a planned and synchronised disruption to the match by hostile gala fans and all responsibility should fall at their door.

I cannot agree with Gunner re a 1-0 loss on Sunday will be acceptable, any loss surely is against everything we stand for. I do agree, however, with the earlier comment that AW has had all summer to sort out any weaknesses and we are STILL without a CB a DM that was identified all last season. Just what is he thinking, we are standing still, gone are the days when others followed us in tactics, club management etc., now we are way behind. I am not in the get rid of AW camp BUT we simply struggle against other top clubs so something is wrong and perhaps changes are needed. I do not beleive AW is past his sell by date, but we must embrace new methods so perhaps a younger manager should be considered and AW moved upstairs. Controversial? Maybe, but I only comment as I see it. Come on you Gunners!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Prepare to be abused by some 2 sentence nonsense poster in the Arsene can do no wrong fan club.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the comments made by Pete but I also think that we could choose to 'match' Chelsea by playing a midfield 3 of Diaby, Flamini and perhaps Coquellin with Welbeck, Sanchez and the OX up front. These are players that area available and would give us a solidity and responsibility in midfield with pace on the break, . Give them a taste of their own medicine and not worry about making the game. they're at home, they need to worry about that. We just to win, any how any way.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Oct 2014 13:38:23
i don't get people who keep coming up with Diaby and Coquelin as our saviours of midfield?!

It's not going to happen - Diaby has a hip injury apparently and is off duty for a little bit. surprise surprise and we all know Coquelin isn't the answer

Our best Mid for the weekend would be Flamini and Jack with ozil in front.

If you wanted 3 it would have to be Jack, Flam, Ox

Coquelin is not up to the standard.

Agree with Rob,

You don't throw a crock and a rookie in the mix away to Chelsea.

Play the team that started against Gala.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rob, I was using it as an example of setting the team up to play against specific opposition rather playing the same way against everyone and closing our eyes and hoping for the best. If we set up as normal, I think everyone knows what the outcome will be. We have limited options in front of the back 4 so maybe, against better sides, we have to set up differently.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

While I agree we should have purchased at least one but probably two centrebacks and a ball winning and metronome passing defensive midfielder, we cannot do anything about it now.

We did buy Alexis, Welbeck, and Chambers and all of those purchases at this point look inspired.

Rounding out the team will have to wait until January or the Summer.

Now let's focus on the Chelsea game.

My fears for Sunday:

1. Costa bullying Mert;
2. Flamini not doing a good job and allowing Cesc and Eden too much space to find passes; and
3. The referee not getting yellow cards out early to stop Matic / Terry / Cahill / Ivanovic / Willian from cynical fouling to break up Arsenal's play (see Chelsea v. City or when we played City).

What I am excited about:

1. Welbeck/Ox/Sanchez offering us pace which should scare Chelsea into allowing us space between the lines, which will suit Ozil; and
2. Ozil playing in his favoured position with willing runners.

I think we can win this game. I am going to put myself out there and say 2-1 to the Arsenal. Welbeck and Sanchez with Costa scoring for Chelsea (from a set piece).

(I am prepared for the cynical comments about form and the possible abuse post-match)

Go Gunners!

Agree0 Disagree0

James one of us is getting stick post match mate I truly hope your leading the way giving me loads of stick for being wrong about not only the result but about our title credentials.
I would love revenge for what mourinho did to Arsene on his 1000 game, not just the score but the total disrespect he should towards him that day and leading up to the game

Agree0 Disagree0

Ulster here I am, you should have an emotional connection with wenger he has brought arsenal into the modern game with a modern stadium and has nursed some of the great talent of the millennia so far. Is that nonsensical enough?

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha took awhile but someone finally bit. Not nonsense Saint, just the same BORING drivel time and time again.

I didn't know Wenger was a brick layer. How many blocks did he lay at the Emirates?

I'm with Wenger 100% on our journey to the top. If he has got us to a level and can get us no further then someone else should come in and continue the journey. He has done a fantastic job getting us where we are but I'm not going to be blind sided by past glories if modern day issues are not being resolved.

I'd love to get into this more but I've realised who this msg is directed at.

Post your 2 sentence tripe response and be done with it.

Isn't it strange how even though we're all on the same side so many of us see things so differently, good but strange.
Some people don't see why some of us are so negative about sunday and fear the worst again while I and others can't see why they aren't and don't :-).
Well here's to sunday night and us doom mongers having to grovel for for reacceptance into the positive gang ( not to be confused with the cool gang of course)
Let's hope I and others have a lot of apologizing to do and were all super positive heading into the international break

g62 it's not difficult to accept that people will have doubts, so many things seem to implode on us and the 9 years take a toll on the most ardent of followers.

I despair at times and despite my belief that we would we didn't buy a CB or a DM in the summer.

I just believe it was for reasons other than Arsene simply didn't want to spend money.

Here's something else I believe to, I can't put the last 9 years behind me and be proud of what we achieved what we did with what we had and have come out the other side so much bigger and better as a club.

To me it's a fresh slate for Arsene, he had signed 3 year deal to build a new top quality team and I'll give him all of it to do it, we have a squad better than most give credit for and he and they will start to win things.

So many people talk about giving managers time and seeing as Arsene has been here for 18 years that seems odd, but now he has the money and I still believe the ability for me I'm just giving him the time.

Others want him out and I do get that, some already want Van Gaal and Rodgers out, some are questioning Martinez. It's life, it's football but it's our Arsenal. :-)

Great post Jenny,

Couldn't agree more with the building of a new team. He has signed the 3 year extension with a means of creating a world beating team with an English core probably with the aim that in 3 years he might handover to someone like Steve Bould or similar.

All we can do is support him and the team for the next 3 years. Because let's face it, regardless of whether you are pro or anti Wenger he is staying around and continuing his building.

In the last 5 years would any of you seen us signing Ozil or Alexis? Of course not!

We all want results now, we have all been waiting for results for years - unfortunately we aren't Citeh or Chavski, so we have to plunge every now and then and build up.

Next step is the defence and the defensive midfielder - it will come guys, let's continue being patient. Over the years it is definitely what us Arsenal fans have learnt to become experts in!

Agree0 Disagree0

We are a top 4 club and contender for 18+ years - we should be able to win a game against any team on our day. Does Chelsea drop points? Do bottom of the table teams take points off big teams yes. So why are some on here beating ourselves already.

What matters is how we play, do we fight for it, are we confident and we can do anything. Does not mean we have to win, but with the right tactics we can and I always believe we will. Look at Dortmund - we have way more talent than them and they kicked our butts, because they believe. So we may not be favored but I am expecting us to play well and have a chance at winning.

*I can be proud. :-) oops.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jenny I don't think Arsene should be sacked and should see out his 3 years whatever happens.
Personally I wouldn't have given him a new 3 year deal but we have so he should be allowed to see it through.
As for the DM that never was? I think he feels Arteta Flamini and possibly Jack and Diarby are good enough, I don't agree in the slightest and think we should have paid what it took to get our Danger Mouse to keep us safe from embarrassing things :-)

Massive weekend again. If we get a result of any description, it will be massive in as much, burying the ghosts of last seasons away days. On the other hand if we get mullered again, it could be the death knoll. Defeat it not an option, we don't want to be 9 points behind after only a handful of games. Wenger has had all summer to phathom things out, he has to provide answers. I fear he can't.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well its a massive game for many reasons and just for once the points don't matter as much as the performance.
Give a really good account of ourselfs and lose 1 0 just this once I'd accept that as a result as long as we don't look like school boys playing Real Madrid again.
A draw even if we're under the dosh for 87.3% or the game I wouldn't care less as it would mean we stood up and were all present and very correct this time.
A win? Now I would call that a trophy just this once as it would bury last seasons away day blues and our inability to beat big teams in one fail swoop, now that would really be worth celebrating and going to work Monday with a hangover for sure
