Question EDs, which "reply to this post" are we supposed to click? The one above, in the same box, or the one below in a different box. Very confusing!

{Ed033's Note - There aren't any boxes, we have horizontal rules that separate the replies. Our reply buttons are at the bottom of a thread.

question for you ed rooney or suarez which one if you had to pick one would you like at arsenal? {Ed027's Note - Suarez all day and all night, no questions about it. Suarez different class, maybe more of a c*nt but Rooney will cost 100k more a week and imo is overrated whilst Suarez is world class

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah but remember ed, suarez will cost more on wages. ie. his bans means we are paying for nothing for a while, rooney now and suarez maybe in jan window :P out of those two, i'd still prefer the hig to either.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez is the best player in the PL

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on Ed.
Suarez gets a lot of stick for being a d*ckhead but of all the players we have been linked with this summer he is the one to get really excited about.
Absolute goal machine.
Would love to see us play 4-4-2 with Suarez and Higuian up front.
Keep up the great work.

Hello there, Man United fan here & come in peace. Would like to ask you if you would still want Rooney even though it looks like you have got Higuian, would they be your ideal front two or would you pair someone else with Higuian. I personally am torn on Rooney because on one hand he can be brilliant, then as we saw last season he just looks overweight, unfit & just not interested. To be honest the minute somebody else steals his limelight ( rvp last season-ouch, & Ronaldo a couple of years ago) out comes the dummy & he wants a move. Last season he scored 12 goals, while Hernandez scored 18 in about a third of the gametime. MIDDLETON RED.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would prefer Jovetic in a more supporting role, although I think we have players capable of filling that position already.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good player but do not think we are interested could be agents at it again

Agree0 Disagree0

When Rooney moves and becomes no 1 again I believe he will come good again bou it won't be for our club because your lot bent over and got royally f××ked with his wages. And only about 3 / 4 clubs worldwide stupid enough to pay that sort of wage

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take Rooney any day of the week. And I personally think that Wenger can sort his 'issues' out. I think that fergie couldn't be bothered last season because he knew he was leaving. So in the long term I think AW could sort him out

Just browsing over the team page on the official arsenal website, although no new names have been added other than sanogo, I notice santos name is missing. I know that djourou will more than likely move after his loan spell, but his name is still on the website, unfortunately so is ju-young park, bendtner, gervinho and chamakh.

Maybe I am reading to much into it and it is a honest mistake, although it would be nice to clear the decks with the bench earners and replace them with real quality. {Ed027's Note - He's right at the bottom, out on loan, that is the mistake

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thought it was my birthday reading this post until ed put you right, think we should pay him off or give him away just so the hig can have his number

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is Hig getting a 3 rather than 5 year contract?

Seems strange

SY4

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So if he sets the world alight he can demand a huge pay rise or go play for someone else and kick ass for them without much hassel
AG

Agree0 Disagree0

He isn't. The payment terms for the transfer fee is spread over 3 years. It was just misinformation.

He will sign a 4 or 5 year deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, that's a real concern we were discussing this today. A good new player should at least come with 5 years term. In this case we will have to start worrying about tying him to another deal next season. This sounds really stupid but may be the board thinks Sanogo will step up next season and they can sell higuain and make up the money spent on him :). how pessimistic the board has made us!

SM

Agree0 Disagree0

It's funny though because if he flops you'll all be complaining tht he's on 100k plus a week and still on the wage bill

Agree0 Disagree0

If he flops in premiership which he won't, his value would still exceed our purchase price. That will only fall every year into a short contract.
I thought we were paying one lump sum?

SY4

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the 3 year deal sounds like B. S

pay a club record and sign him for 3 years?

if wenger is spending his dear money, he knows this is the player. and we all know how big a player Higuain is.

Give this guys gametime and he will score 20+ goals a season. his stats are astonishing, considering his gametime.

the only players better than him in the out and out striker dept is Ibra, falcao and cavani. he's better than suarez and rvp. so that's all I need to convince me.

I'm kinda curious as to why we have been linked to Suarez? If Sky announce interest then there's usually something to it. And honestly I think he would work well for us. With Higuain it would give us unbelievable options up top.

Lol - actually this was an educated guess - the Rooney one I was pretty early on but got fried by posters. I was told he was keen to play with the english lads. Anyway, Higuain for me is the best news possible. With Pod and Giroud now in second season, Carzola too, Wilshere fit, Ox ready and Walcott fit, one more 1st team offensive player and a DM and a CD cover and we'll have a shot at some silver. Suarez isn't coming to Arsenal. If he's going to leave, he will go to Madrid.

Why they've suspended betting, I don't know. For all we know some rich bored person made the bet just to cause commotion.

Bottom line, we will not be getting Suarez. We may as well get Balotelli. Talented yet stupid. I mean seriously who bites a player. twice. Why not pack an apple in your bag before the game, eat it at half time.

Plus Liverpool won't sell him cheap, especially to us.

A promising start to his arsenal career breaking into the first team then a horrific leg break slowed his progression almost a year out comes back and scores against man united to win the game then after that struggles to find form the season after and this season played out of position numerous times heavily criticised by us fans didn't let it get him down and then plays a massive part in us finishing above spurs and getting us champo league football if anyone deserved the nickname RAMBO it's him!

How to make a Suarez.

Mix together some footballing class with a touch of diving. Slowly add a pinch of handballs then leave to rest. Once cooled add to that a sprinkle of biting and disloyalty, followed by a garnish of misunderstanding. No handshakes are necessary.
And finally the piece de resistance a thick layer of racism, (apologies are optional) and voil.

Bendtner wants 85,000 Euros per week to sign for Eintracht Frankfurt, who state they will not pay such a sum.
Werder Bremen are prepared to take him on loan until Jan 2014 and pay him the same as his current wage at Arsenal, reputed to be £50,000 per week.
Arsenal are seeking a transfer fee of £5million, but are committed to pay him £2.5 million in wages for 2013/14.

Short of paying off his contract at a cost of £2.5 million, what can Arsenal do to get this person out the door?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hire a hitman?
Of course I'm joking. I think? No I am, am I?
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

Every day that goes by it damages the club that his transfer is still our responsibility. I know what I would do but it's not my money! I would happily release him just to get rid. It's laughable that he thinks he is even worth what we pay him now after a season of no football and not much better the year before. But 85'000 euros? He is on something.

What does everyone think should happen with regards to the right back situation next season? Firstly, should Sagna stay or be sold? And if he does stay, should he be first or second choice? Personally, I would like him to stay for one more season, but as a second string experienced figure, almost like a mentor to Jenko. This is because not only did Sagna's performances start tailing off dramatically last season, but also Jenkinson started to really show how good a prospect he is. It will be tough for Wenger to demote such a loyal servant, but after two seasons I think now is the time to really bring Jenkinson through.

Plus, once Bacary moves on, probably next summer, we have one hell of a talent in Bellerin to play second fiddle to Carl.

One of my best mates is a city fan and a few weeks ago he was posting 'Fernadinho? Who the ffff is Fernadinho? £34m?! Oh my daze what are we like?'

Then he was posting 'Jesus Navas? Who is this guy?'

Today he posted a picture from his phone of the story he read about Negredo and titled it 'who??'

Honestly City are a joke! It's embarrassing having fans who get awkward hearing how much money they spend, and it's embarrassing having fans who haven't even heard of their signings! These again are fairly well-known players even if you only heard the name. How can you be a fan of elite football and not have heard of Shaktar's midfielders and spanish forwards?!

04 Jul 2013 13:23:15
Arggghh, ok so there are moments of fear but overall it is still such an exciting window for us! Firstly, we've done pretty well with the 'staff turnover' - we've moved on a whole ruck of kids and players like Eastmond who I'm sure was only still at the club due to his homegrown status.

We've moved on a serious proportion of the unused players - Squillaci, Arshavin, Djourou, Denilson, Mannone gone. That's pretty impressive. I read yesterday that Park's contract will be terminated, makes sense. Who is left? Bendtner will go to some degree, I also read Coquelin trained with Freiburg yesterday, not sure how true that is or if anyone else can confirm it? Still think he should be loaned to a prem club.

There's hardly any deadwood left! Fabianski, surely he'll be leaving too? And Santos. That's pretty well it. We won't sell Diaby.

And you have to look at the targets the media is talking up, as well as the idea that we put, for example, Podolski on £100kpw before he'd kicked a ball for us - surely that indicates a change in stance for us now? I am not saying I think the squad we have at the end of this window will challenge for the league, but I definitely think the changes we make this summer will get us halfway there and along with one or two additions next summer, then we'll look like challengers. It's taken years longer than we hoped probably, but we're getting there at last. Feels good!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree. I mentioned in a post after the season ended that the first thing the club neede to do was get rid of the driftwood, as that would indicate we were making space and saving money for wages for incoming players. Thankfully we are nearly through that part of the plan.
Now for the other part. Players brought in to make us compete.
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

Flybo another thought going through my mind is that at no stage has the club indicated it wants to reduce the wage bill - in fact they seem, whilst playing dumb at least, to think that our high wage bill is a positive. In some skewed way I can see what they mean, but they must surely know that a wage bill that high with the lack of star quality we have is surely a mismatch. We've freed up something like £300kpw already. That's about £13m off the wage bill and we haven't sold a single player from the first team squad from last season. That's amazing. We could add 3 £100kpw or 2 £150kpw players to the squad without even increasing our wage bill. That is NICE!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we are going to release park chu, then we will sell bendtner, there is santos, and chamakh. all these guys need to go and we can afford fellaini.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's all coming together Metal :-)
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

Lakerville I think we will see more movement than any of us could have really expected. I think Le Coq will be away be it loan or otherwise. I think Chamakh will be sold, and Gervinho is attracting interest from all over Europe, I think he will leave as well. This is partly why I believe we are talking to united about Nani rather than Rooney. That would be classic Wenger.

'I'll got Lille and come back with Gerv not Hazard! I'll go to Dortmund and come back with, er, Eisfeld!' - media thinks it's Rooney, but is it?

Agree0 Disagree0

Metal I understand nani may interest most you guys, but most united fans just want him gone.

He is really inconsistent. He is another gervinho. Sell gervinho for 10 and buy nani for 12? no thank you.

rather have gervinho. at least he knows his place is on the bench, rather than nani who is not better than walcott or poldi, and who thinks he is a starter.

he can have one blinding game and 5 stinkers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lakerville, I think I am the only person who wants us to sign Nani! Haha. I don't care though. I know the raw talent he possesses and you simply do not get that talent available to you for the price they want usually so it would be a punt well worth taking imo. He's still fairly young, time for him to come good.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2013 13:12:54
I see a lot of people getting excited over Huguain now. It's interesting watching press pass and listening to them talk about the deal. I still think it is madness what is being reported in terms of where the deal is 'at' - I think talks seem far more advanced than the media know, and that certainly gives me hope!

Less impressed with this Bendtner nonsense! Frankfurst come out and suggest wages might be an issue. Honest to god, Arsenal please just end his contract! It is an absolute disgrace that a guy who has hardly kicked a ball for 2 years thinks he doesn't need to cut his wages to get game time. We're talking about mid-table bundesliga clubs not wanting to pay his full packet - when will he get a reality check?

Annoyed with Djourou too. Yes on one hand you have the 'loyalty' thing where he seems to have stuck around as 10th choice CB, but Hannover took a risk loaning him, and wanted to buy him. But instead of showing them any thanks for giving him a way out of Arsenal, after saying he wanted to stay there, he just pies them off and goes to Hamburg who will pay a fraction more in wages. What is wrong with these players? I don't know if I could do that to a club. It's one thing changing leagues but it's another just sacking off the club who made your season happen, just for another club who want to loan. So he's still got no permanent home, he's got to change club again, and the club that offered a fee for him don't land their player. Nice one Djourou!

I suppose it makes no difference to our first team if those two players are loaned, released or sold, but it's the lack of principles that astonishes me!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Jul 2013 12:44:01
Not a rumour but would like to gauge opinions on what we think.

We all agree that AW dwells on transfer but hand on hearts, who do we think we will buy?

GH - Still ongoing and looks like it might go no where
MF - don't want to pay the buy out clause
LB - Germans don't want to do business

We all know we need new players but who do you all think we do?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well that is certainly the picture the media has reported but as I suggested yesterday it is so easy to report that stuff and have people just believe it - Arsenal fans almost expect that sort of behaviour from the club.

GH - I believe the media doesn't have a clue what is going on. Deep down I believe by now a deal has been agreed but it is concluding the contract negotiations including image rights for the player etc. I am worried that other clubs might come in for him but their targets seemt o be more glamorous.

Fellaini - really beyond caring. So far we've read that we won't agree to meet the clause, and Everton don't want to sell. Then we've read we aren't offering him wages he wants. It all sounds like BS to me. The rejected bid for Lars Bender sounded much more real and if so, Fellaini isn't a target. I have big big doubts about this move happening.

I think if we want Bender we will get him. Failing that, I believe that while the media says we're going for Grenier, we'll make a deal for Gonalons if we can't land Bender.

That's just my spider senses!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed! Fellini is a quality player, behind a lone striker. Was unplayable against utd but don't think he has the mentality for a pure DM role. With £25 mil to play with, surely there must be some drugs or time machine that could bring in claude makelele at his prime! Failing that, it has to be capoue for me!

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2013 12:36:35
Hmmmm been thinking about fellaini and I don't feel he is the disciplined DM we want. Plus he has no self control I mean look at the stoke incident! Say if he done that before a big game! I would rather bender or gonalons. Even though both their clubs say their not for sale every player has his price.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Anyone from Arsenal youth will be a decent prospect for a league 1 team mate, but it's hard to gauge how good he is really.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just being an Arsenal trainee doesn't make a player a good prospect, I can think of a good few ex_AFC trainees who have failed to make the grade in League 1 (Tom Cruise, Michael Black, Daniel Boateng), I was asking if anybody who actually has any first hand knowledge of him could offer an opinion.

Also, any idea on what the deal was with Park? Why did we sign him and then never play him? If Wenger's eventual autobiography is where I need to look just let me know {Ed027's Note - Don't know why we signed him, probably shirts sales. With 5 first team players already out, I expect another 6/7 to go, Santos, Park may have to be loan deals as we will struggle to shift, Chamakh should be on his way back to France, Coquelin is rumoured to be going out on loan to Freiburg, Bendtner is rumoured to be closing in on a permanent switch to Frankfurt. I thought Fabianski would leave, but he could stay as 3rd choice, finally Gervinho is attracting quite a lot of interest and I expect Arsenal to cash in.

Ed. I am not an arsenal fan. But I have a question.
Arsenal are in for rooney 27, 250k per week with almost 25-30 mill transfer fees.
Y not lewondaski, would come in for half the wages, would bang in double what rooney scores and would get in for 20 mill at max and dortmunad would be happy to sell to a team other than Bayern.
the lad is pure genius, an execptional out and out CF would would bang in goals up and down.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think the Rooney story is a bit of a smokescreen for other things that are going on. Wenger said he thought Rooney was a great player a few weeks ago, but I don't think the club would want to pay his wages, when there are far better players out there for a lot less cash.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are not in for Rooney, and Lewandowski will cost us much more than the "20mil max" you are saying

Just read that Bendtner's move to Frankfurt is looking increasingly doubtful because of his wage demands. I was just wondering if anybody knew what he is getting paid at the moment at Arsenal?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

50k p/w I think

He wears no. 52 for a reason the smug cvnt.

Rumoured to be £52k per week, hence his shirt number.

CECEGUaW

Agree0 Disagree0

H. its 52k per week and that's why he changed his shirt number from 26 to 52

Agree0 Disagree0

Reportedly approx £52k pw. This is the problem with Wenger's self-confessed 'Socialist' wage policy. We are stuck with players such as Djourou (now loaned out), Bendtner, Park, Santos & Chamakh, as they are on much higher salaries than most clubs are able to pay.

Agree0 Disagree0

30-40k a week, far too much!

Agree0 Disagree0

52k, hence his shirt no.

His shirt number was to sound similar to the USA Stealth Bomber, B52.

B52 isn't a stealth bomber. Its a bomber which was commissioned in 1952.

Kent Gooner

Believable0 Unbelievable0

francis coquelin rumoured to have been training with sc freiburg in germany today ahead of a proposed loan move according to supporters of the club.

I'll give ye my opinion on what happened Yesterday with luis Suarez odds of joining us falling so dramatically. Pere guardiola Suarez agent lives in Barcelona where the betting started he wants his player to go to Madrid I don't think his brother would want him at bayern they are to well ballenced as club to want a liability like Suarez. So he gets people to put substantial bets on in Barcelona for Suarez to arsenal the odds tumble madrid fear arsenal have lost interest on GH and they finally allow him to talk to arsenal. Rm get 22 mill admit there not getting bale arsenal get GH Madrid use the money to get Suarez and pere guardiola makes a tidy profit on the money used in the bookies to get the ball rolling. Just a taught

Cork City Gooner

Believable0 Unbelievable0

In a strange way, this appears believable. Agents are tricky dudes, conceiving and deceitful. I like the idea it was all a ploy, which eventually gets us our man. come on Higgy. join the gunners and get that cannon firing :)

Very plausible, but I think it would be illegal if pere as his agent started all this to make a profit.

im not sure what to make of it anymore. it happened with higuain, bookies stopped taking bets and now we are on the verge of signing him.

some of us are overly optimistic that this could be a great summer for us, but if we manage to get suarez and higuain?

i'm ready to pay 5K for a season ticket. if anyone is willing to sell theirs.

Agree0 Disagree0

I said something very similar to a friend this morning. Sounds plausable to say the least!

Agree0 Disagree0

The fact the betting took place in Spain got me thinking us here in Ireland and ye in the uk would bet on just about anything but I couldn't understand why there would be bets placed in Barcelona about a Madrid target moving from one English club to another they don't have that gambling culture

Ed why is higuain only going to be a 3 year deal because another time when someone is going to run down contract to a year

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It sounds absurd, as we have to pay approx £20-23m, plus his wages of say £150k per week and run the risk of him departing for nothing after 3 years. Which means in addition to £7.5m per annum in wages, we potentially run the risk of writing off a futher £7m ish a year. Total annual cost of over £14m, makes little sense. I can't imagine we would shell out £20+m, without having a 4/5 year contract, enabling us to obtain a sell on fee.

Id rather have Higuain on 3 year than not at all

suarez! seriously! is that the best they can do that 3 different players this week!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

For me it could be two things.

1) Arsenal put their interest in suarez and madrid think, wait a minute, they want higuain and we want suarez. let's give them higuain and not have competition for suarez, (not that arsenal would win, but rather it would be more expensive to acquire him)

2) It could be mathias suarez the holding midfielder from Athletico Madrid, and people have got the wrong news?

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't go out and buy your Suarez shirt just yet, the big amounts of cash came from the city of Barcelona. Not sure what it means, but I do have a couple pessimistic ideas.

If Sagna goes he will be sorely missed he has been a goood servant for us and is probably the most consistant RB in the PL over the past decade.

Jack started off for us and Bolton on the left, it's what they do with young wanna be CM, with Cesc it was the right, same with the Ox. CM has a huge responsibilty, and naivety in that role can cost games. it's an option if required, but generally a kind of midfield apprenticeship.

The losers in this situation will be manchester united.

if he is forced to stay or push his way out, he will stay, run down his contract to one year, where he as the bargaining power, pick up his pay and be a nuisance to everyone with his bad attitude.

i can't reiterate this enough, his agent is know as a massive C**t, you can imagine how this will play out, and not that I don't rate the player, I would like him only to return the favour to united, but other than that, i'm going to enjoy this saga.

Hi Ed, I know that Wilshere is predominately a central player, but when he came on as a sub against Blackburn in the FA Cup (the one we lost), he played attacking wide left and I thought he was really good. He is getting quicker in pace and is obviously one of our better passers, plus he would help out the left-back in defence. Is it something AW could consider, or is it just another square peg in a round hole?

LUIS SUAREZ was last night linked with a sensational move to Arsenal. Bookies William Hill have STOPPED taking bets on the £25million-rated Liverpool striker quitting Anfield for the Emirates.
And it was a series of massive bets in Spain - with the Gunners as his destination - which forced William Hill to close their market.

I Don't see it myself.
