Sorry him bit confused as to who you meant when you said none have dazzled?

04 Jul 2016 22:26:17
I meant none of our central midfield (discounting ozil as you didn't mention him and were talking about competition for spaces) were consistently outstanding this season a la kante (not standing out in Alicante, dags) , or Rambo 2 seasons back. All went through spates of looking good though, and Coq had the biggest impact for me. I'm just hoping this season the increased competition and that they know each other better brings the best out of them all, especially Ramsey and jack.

Not sure why this started a new post. Must've accidentally clicked it lol. Interesting i do see what you're saying but I'm
Sure cazorla was impressing pre injury. Hard to use Kante as a Example no one in that role come close to him. One question I'd like to ask you and anyone else as a CM option. Where would you rank wilshere in order of choice. For me you'll have perhaps elneny/ coq one side then on the other one of cazorla Rambo Xhaka wilshere. For me he's my 4th choice there. It's a difficult one he needs game time but for me no where near good enough atm.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2016 22:56:27
On his England form if Ospina isn't available to play CM and Gilberto can't be talked into a come back Jacks a good option, people keep banging on about our English contingent but they'll all ify at best.
This 8 from 25 home grown rule needs looking at because it's back fired badly as English players don't need to be as good as those from abroad, their there through good fortune of where they were born not ability.

04 Jul 2016 23:13:18
Agree gunner 62 with the home contingent needing looking at. You also forgot to mention the added 10-20 million on their price tag.

Agree1 Disagree1

04 Jul 2016 23:38:22
Your bang on G62, why strive to be the best when you can get in the best teams in the league, sit on the bench and get paid a whack just for being homegrown.

It shows that you hardly ever see English players heading abroad because there's plenty of the same quality in there own leagues.

They need to change something but at the moment it's giving them no drive to be the best they can be, going the other way. well teams would just buy more from abroad you would think and we would still be no better.

Agree1 Disagree0

I guess it depends on who we play. If all fit, I'd start with:

Defensive:
Danny
Campbell - Ozil - Alexis
Xhaka - Rambo

Campbell for his desire and work rate. danny for the additional chasing down he does.
Coq off the bench for Rambo to see out, or elneny if we could still do with a bit of extra attack
Jack for more creativity

Attacking:
Olly
Alexis - Ozil - The Ox
Cazorla - Xhaka

Olly to start, Danny or theo off the bench for additional energy.
I know many doubt the ox, but if we keep him, and give him a run I think he'll come good. He's direct and actually shoots when he sees the goal :) again, Theo or iwobi off the bench. Maybe iwobi from his recent form.
Rambo for cazorla if we need more box to box,
Jack if need extra supply going forward or runs through the middle
Elneny/ coq to see out.
That said, jack worked hard tracking back in some england games and looked calm, just had some awful touches too, but so did most of the squad.

I'd then review it depending on form.

Xhaka has not kicked a single ball for us. I do not think he will walk into the starting 11 just like that. Coq and Elneny have been good enough IMO. Xhaka has to earn his place in the team.

Jim,
I like your set up but would have Iwobi on the wing and would never start the Ox.

News of signing Subotic and Rodrgiguez is precisely what we need, not that I believe they will actually sign for us. In addition I would like us to sign Sam Byram from West Ham, as cover for Bellerin. Then we just need a quality striker, such as Morata.
We could then sell or loan out; Debuchy, Jenkinson, Chambers, Monreal or Gibbs (Personally, I would keep Gibbs, as he is younger and homegrown) and Hayden.
This would give us a formidable squad.

For me Nacho was quite consistent last season. I do not have a problem if he is a starter again this season. Any upgrade has to be much superioir to what we have of which this Rodriguez guy doesn't seem like the real deal. Considering our tight budget as always, LB is not one of the glaringly deficient positions warranting immediate attention.

It's interesting that Wenger is claiming that Assano is one for the future, despite him turning 22 in November. Although Premier League forwards often mature as players later, by 22 they should show sufficient potential to be part of the first team squad. In addition, I can't think of any Japanese players that have played regularly for a top PL club. Perhaps this is, after all, a commercial decision.

It's a shame that Welbeck will be out for such a long period, as Giroud has proved that he is a decent player and these two options, with Walcott, Sanchez and Campbell also able to cover the main striking role, would have been adequate.

Finally, there were recent discussions on how much we will spend this window. My guess based upon Wenger's transfer history, is that we will be a maximum of £30-50m out of pocket, probably closer to £30m. We have spent approx £33m on Xhakka, Asano £2m?, a striker say £20m and defensive cover £8m? - Total £63m. However, we will sell players; Oxlade £15m? Campbell £8m? Hayden £3m? Gnabry £3m? Debuchy £4m? Plus possible loan fees, say £4m. - Total £37m.

Therefore, a net spend of £26m, close to my estimate of £30m. We do have funds in the bank of over £200m, but some of this money is used to cover they running costs of the club and have been accumulated during a period when property deals brought large sums into the club. Wenger believes the club should run profitably and hence a huge net spend simply won't happen.

Personally I couldn't care one way or the other about Asano as he doesn't affect our chances one way or the other, I say let's wait and see what happens between now and kick off because I'm sure Arsene is as aware as anyone Sanchez and Ozil won't stick around willingly if Xhaka is our only answer to last seasons woes.
If this summer turns out to be a bad as some are predicting it will be Arsenes last as our manager because no matter how much the club might want him to stay I don't think he will enjoy next season increased discontent from the fans anymore than he did the water down version last seasons and won't be in a hurry to sign up for more of the same.
Not only do I not think Sanchez and Ozil have much appetite for another season like last season I'm also pretty sure its not exactly high on Arsene's wish list either.
I didn't think for one minute he was seriously interested in actually making anything happen last summer even Petr Cech was handed on plate and an offer it was virtually impossible for him to refuse but this time I'm very optimistic Xhaka won't be our besf signing this summer and he will be joined by atleast a couple of household names that are very much for now and not for 5 years time if ever.
Time will tell boys.

Robson-Kanu anyone lol? He's free right now and looks a proper threat in that Wales lineup!
I must admit that although I am English I have been secretly rooting for Wales, desire and commitment has run through that team from day 1. Then I watched England against Russia and saw the complete opposite, every game they never convinced me they could go far but Wales have just got better and better. Fantastic to watch.

Hi Ed02

The first 04 days has seen hectic activity by other clubs except for Arsenal

1. Can you tell that the interest in Subotic is genuine
2. Can you tell the strikers arsenal are planning to bring apart from Asano or will Asano be the only one.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - It has not been hectic at other clubs, it is simply being pretty unmanageable with the Arsenal supporters.}

04 Jul 2016 15:07:24
It does seem no matter what a huge amount of our fan base won't be happy. And got to be said with the striker question and many others if you just type ed002 on the search box on the top of the page you'll find your answer very quickly than having to wait for a reply lol.

Mark, a reply to your question.
Morata is a bit like Fernando Torres (of Liverpool and Atletico) but is he physically strong to match the demands of PL? I'm sure he'll build up fitness.
Lacazette reminds me of Darren Bent in a little way. Both would guarantee more goals.
However I have preference for Morata over Lacazette.
That said the club should up efforts in getting a deal over the line before it's late. Most teams would have to bring in replacements if they are to sell their top players. So should we wait till the last minute in an attempt to sign a player, we may lose out due the replacement stuff.
Signing a player as early as possible is a plus for us as the players tend to part-take in preseason and then have the managers draw a game plan around him.
Though we signed Ozil in the last hours of the window, Madrid had their replacement so they cut him loose. Plus last minute deals could turn out to be pricy.

Eds.
Do you think Arsenal will sell Wilshire?
I think he has been a drain on our resources injuries or otherwise.
He has missed around 170 games at Arsenal (how many seasons is that combined ) you can't say that he has played the rest as he may have only had minutes in a lot of the remainder.
I've been to France twice for these Euros and seen the England team train I think along with others that he is basically mediocre to say the least.
I don't get this obsession with holding on to him. What is it all about .
He's off field antics when he is supposed. to be injured or not leaves a lot to be desired too. It's like Arsenal are treating like some sort of demi-God . Why?

Believable3 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - for me he would be the first out of the door, he is lazy, lives a poor lifestyle, has attitude problems, always injured due to his lifestyle choices and is not a particularly good player, but Arsene loves him. It is highly unlikely he will go anywhere yet.

The fans mostly love him because he talks about his love for the club and does a lot of good social media stuff, PR work, to make up for his idiotic choices. They forget about the lack of application because he tweets the right things.}

04 Jul 2016 09:46:14

Absolutely spot on Ed.
Nothing more to add really.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2016 11:35:14
I can't argue with the eds as i don't know anything about the player's training régimes, or much other than football on thr field and what i see. I trust aw would act appropriately regarding player unprofessionalism, and media stuff about him seems disproportionate, I. e. smoking is not having a bar brawl.

I like him as he seems incredibly talented, versatile, passionate, homegrown and could be a real leader. I've always thought he gets injured so much because he runs with the ball so close to him, draws tackles and moves the ball last minute getting knocks as a result, but is direct, runs through the middle, and has a great pass.

As a layperson, I want him to stay, and hope he becomes great.

Same for Rambo, Gibbs, coq, chambers, ox, iwobi. I'd rather they all get support and stay and produce something great.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jul 2016 15:12:17
Personally I think his heavy touch when running causes so many injuries. I'd love him to reach his potential but when he plays Cm where we have Rambo cazorla elneny coq Xhaka anyone I'm forgetting? Can't see him pushing any of them out. Even playing behind the striker we've got ozil Rambo cazorla who can all play there.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2016 18:03:54
I kind of agree that at the minuts he wouldn't push any out, but none have really dazzled, apart from coq doing a great job compared to what we were dping befofe and elneny looking full of energy and desire and promising.

We all demand, and manager's would like strength in depth - for form, multiple competitions and injuries.

That group looks pretty great to me, and the competition will hopefully push them all to take their chances and improve. Those that do, great for us and them. We find our real gems. That's what I hope for all of them. Those that don't though, they are doing the selection process themselves. I just don't know how long is reasonable to give them a chance, and for that i trust in aw and the staff, but I'd like to keep them all if possible.

Im not sure how long cazorlas contract is for, but I'm guessing it won't be renewed to allow others to come through, and if all do pretty well aw may allow one to leave for good money if the others also showing good form?

All in all, I'm really hopeful with the midfield! Just intrigued what AFC pull out of the bag before close of window and who they will play preseason. Chambers get a look in? Gnabry?

Ed01.
Thank you mate!
i have never understood this obsession with keeping him.
All this crap I read about him reaching his potential?
What potential?! I thought you had to be playing to reach potential?! Maybe I missed a trick somewhere.
Let's get real when he is playing what does he actually
do? .
The biggest shame for me is that the club have wasted so much money on him and for what?
Maybe he would have been better off getting paid as Arsenals PR man as he does a blinding job on himself.
He certainly isn't a premiership player in my view.
Just shows you how desperate England are too.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - England weren't desperate, they just had a crap manager. Otherwise the far superior Drinkwater would not have been sat at home while a useless Rooney offered nothing in midfield and an unfit Wilshire was there in the squad.}

04 Jul 2016 07:51:58
Welcome Takuma Asano
Now I Understand that people are frustrated at the lack of transfer movement at th club, but Wenger has stated very explicitly that this signing is for the future. People are just looking for further amunition to blast Arsène With.

We all know this is not nearly enough to compete next season, and if this is our main striker the surely Wenger is delusional. But i very much doubt that. There is a long way to go still and am sure we will be looking at a few players.

And the idea that he has been signed to sell shirts is a little patronising don't you think.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal don't get the money from shirt sales.}

04 Jul 2016 10:07:43
CMP

Time will tell but my guess is he isn't the goal machine people are looking for, I'd also guess his appearances will be very very limited.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jul 2016 19:53:16
It seems to be a commercial decision, to appeal to the potential supporters in the Far East. The sales of merchandise from Arsenl outlets, will bring in substantial sums, including shirts sold on line from Arsenal or through their retail outlets. Of course Arsenal make a profit from selling their own shorts through their own outlets and from my own experience of sponsorship agreements, such as Arsenal's with Puma, there is always an element of payments linked to kit sales.

04 Jul 2016 04:40:58
Somebody called Barrie posted this on BBC yesterday, great idea.

Instead of suspending players in tournaments, why not make them start the next match on the bench - a bit like in Formula One when they have to start from the pit lane. The coach could bring them on straight away, but then they've used up a substitution.

04 Jul 2016 07:23:22
I think it's a great idea for tournaments like euros and World Cup especially after Ramsey's soft yellow for that handball which seemed harsh.

It's simple, use a sin bin for certain offences. For example, Ramsey's handball could have been sufficiently punished by 10 mins in the sin bin, now he misses the semi-final. The use of the sin bin, would also mean that the player is punished against the ream he committed an offence against.
