rumours surfacing of david villa agreeing terms with arsenal, is this true, and if so, will this mean no jovetic?

i hope its true, I would take david villa if we could get him cheap enough.
were missing a striker like him even if he's getting old he still adds something we don't have. dj gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

I would have taken Villa 5 years ago but not now, it's alright scoring goals in the sun in perfect pitches all your career, middle of winter getting battered at Stoke is a different matter.
Not a solution to any of our problems.

Hi guys, I've been begging to see Podolski play as a striker for the whole season and now he's played two games and hasn't really impressed. To be honest I think it's because he comes too deep to try and get the ball and makes passes to Walcott and Cazorla in the midfield position and can't get up front quick enough. Also is it just me or has Theo become a bit selfish? Today every time he got the ball he looked reluctant to pass although he did score our only goal. Thanks for reading.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

One name mate theirry Henry always passed then became more selfish and became a legend so don't blame Walcott for being selfish he's 20 goals this season now.

How fickle are we?

Where are the Ramsey and Shezza haters?

Where are the play podolski up front shouters?

We need to learn that we do have some real quality players, we do need to add a few but we really need to get behind our players, there is not a player in the world who has not been through a bad patch but us gooners seem to be the quickest supporters to call for players heads when they are off form.

Yes I agree it was not comfortable today, but a win is a win, utd have ground out results for years and their supporters are always behind their players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I still think both are not top class.

1 swallow does not make a summer.

Shaneyd {Ed027's Note - Since when does any team have top class players through out?

Agree0 Disagree0

Man city and Chelsea have top clss in all areas. Manchester United too. Chelseas reserve gk whose in loan is the best keeper in Spain.
I wouldn't class any of our players as such aside from Caz an Jack.

Wen we were successful we had Cole, Campbell, Vieira, Pires, Bergkamp and Henry who were all the best in the league at what they did. This season not a single player in team ofthe year

Best keeper in Spain? Has he forget about Casillas?

So he's better than Valdez and Casillas but not Cech?

Headsgone

Agree0 Disagree0

Headsgone - Atletico have the best defence in the league and its been very much down to the form of Courtois, 34 clean sheets in 70 league games.
And yes, i'd say he's better than both Casillas and Valdes.

Today confirmed how important Giroud actually has been to us this season. Despite not being the most clinical striker, he works hard for the team, (unlike Podolski has done up front) gives us a plan B option, and links up well with the rest of the team.

HP

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree. We're not saying he's r. v. p level, but he has been missed.
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, I have been an advocate of Giroud all season, he is deceptively quick and is second to none in winning knock ons in the air and getting on the end of crosses. All the best coaches never worry if the player gets in the right positions and misses, this is for good reason he will score at least 20 next season if he gets the same playing time.

Rambo and Arteta put another good shift in

3 points big points in the bag even if we made a meal of it

SY4

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well and good putting in a good shift, but where was the quality against let's be honest a poor team.

We have settled for mediocre at this club with players that are good at putting in a shift, we need quality, they could easily have nicked a goal.

Saddens me that we have accepted such standards at this club.

Shaneyd

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think we have settled but were holding out till the summer to see if these change are really coming. I have settled with the fact THIS team ain't good enough but all we can hope for is hard work get us over the line for cl and then demand change. I have said here before let's give this supposed money to wenger that he didn't have till now give him the chance with a few pound to improve our team/squad if no change comes then protest put banners in the emirates do whatever it takes to change policy at our great club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sure Utd fans are happy when their central midfielders put in a decent defensive shift and create a goal!

Both had an integral part in the goal and clean sheet

Crucial but certainly not convicing. Far too nerv racking for me. I'm sick and tired of having 80% of possession but still having your heart in your mouth going into injury time. Heard it on the radio, and if it wasn't for Shez pulling out a cracking save by the sound of it in the last 5 minutes it would of been over for us.
I don't want to come across as a doom merchant. We did get the win which is what it's all about, but F##K me we don't make it easy for ourselves.
To those who watched it, does it look like we're missing Giroud? Opinions appreciated.
Sorry for the negativity, but I'm losing it.
Flybo :- (

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Definately missing Giroud for me, too many high balls being put up which Podolski doesn't stand chance with. Missing Giroud holding the ball up and dare I say it shooting, something a lot of the players seem to have forgotten how to do!

N. Wales Gunner

Agree0 Disagree0

We are missing Giroud a lot. Anyone who's given him stick needs to take a real look at themselves. He links everything, we're really lacking movement in the middle/final third and Giroud gives us this.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 May 2013 19:31:59
I admit it, when giroud was upfront I was begging for pod to play down the middle, but in the last 2 games our crosses into the middle have been abysmal, and that is where pod thrives and at the same time chipping in with a couple of goals

Basically Pods not getting the service he gives to others

Need to move Walcott to the middle and bring ox on out wide, pod is offering nothing

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Walcott needs to stop paying attention to whalers he is on the Pitch look at Bale it's not about where he starts but his movement 20 goals from RW is made he shouldn't worry about being in the middle

Also Walcott isn't very strong and would struggle to hold play up where as podolski is quite built just looks like his lost his mojo

I know Stewart Robson is bitter because working for Arsenal TV each week he saw and pointed out our problems and nothing was done about it but he is really starting to get on my nerves loves nothing more than getting into the limelight for having a dig at us. He works for another popular sporting TV channel now and every time he goes on he just lays into us. His latest one is that Wilshere should leave Arsenal and join United, because after Fergie got RVP he sees us as a soft touch and knows he could go back for more.

Fabregas to Arsenal. Possible!

What makes me laugh is all this at the right price talk, remember Barca are still paying the £30m fee plus we have a 50% sell on clause, if we were to sign him back it wouldn't be an astronomical fee, it would be along the lines of cancelling the remaining debt owed plus say £10m totalling a deal maybe worth £20m

Subs:
**All of which are good enough to compete for a place in the first team.

Vermaelen. Monreal.
Arteta. Rosicky. Coquelin.
Giroud.

Reserves:
**Young talented players, some will hopefully make the step up next season.

Martinez.
Miquel. Meade. Yennaris.
Ryo Miyaichi. Eisfeld. Gnabry.
Joel Campbell. Akpom. Watt.

Out:
**We will try to get rid of all of the following players, mainly to free up money for wages. We won't find buyers for them all. But hopefully most of them will go. That or their contact is about to expire.

Fabianski. Mannone.
Sagna. Squillaci. Santos. Djourou.
Diaby. Arshavin. Frimpong. Denilson.
Gervinho. Chamakh. JuYoungPark. Bendtner.

**We already have a decent transfer kitty and that should add a few million to it.

Shortlist/Targets:

Mignolet. Reina. Casillas. Begovic. Adler. Vorm.

Williams. N'Koulou. Dragovic. Sahko.

Richards. Montoya. Corchia. Boyce. Lowton.

Wanyama. Gonalons. Capoue. Seb Rode. Essien.

Fabregas. Alexis Sanchez. Isco. Belhanda. Ben Arfa.

Jovetic. Villa. Remy. Benteke. El-Shaarawy. Higuain.

**Personally, I would love us to add a few proper "World-Class" players, rather than 5 or 6 squad players because thanks to The Proffessor we already have good depth in the squad.
We've rebuilt over the last 8 years and are now finally in a position to compete financially for players that would be an automatic selection for the first eleven.
From that shortlist I want:

Iker Casillas
Micah Richards
Cesc Fabregas
Gonzalo Higuain

Very unrealistic I know. But not impossible! None of them are getting regular first team football and could revive their career at The Emirates

I'm not sure about you guys but I would take Fabregas back in a heartbeat.
Before he left, he was one of, if not the best midfielder in the EPL. He was one of my favourite players, he has loved the club since day one, we made him what he is and we clearly appreciate him more than Barcelona do.

Best midfield in the EPL: Fabregas, Wilshere, Cazorla, Arteta, Ramsey, Rosicky, Diaby

Imagine that.

Heres a little question for you all:

In the past there has been a lot of discussion between us and utd fans as to whether wilshere or cleverley is the better player.

This is obviously silly as Jack is vastly superior, however I would be interested to know who people think is better - rambo or cleverley?

Both seem to do a similar job, tidy with quick feet but not spectacular. One has taken a lot of abuse whilst the other is widely lauded. Thoughts guys and gals?

PWR Gooner {Ed027's Note - That is a comparison bright Man Utd fans make (very few lol), I think Ramsey tbh, he just gets abuse from fans who have to single someone out, they've all got back into there shell over the past few weeks, Aaron offers more all round, and if he bulks up I think he could be some player, Clev is also a good player, both frustrate at times, both don't like to keep it simple and I like that, the thing is Clev plays for Utd and he's able to take risks without anything being said, but we have a team where everyone likes to take risks, Ramsey takes the most

Believable0 Unbelievable0

First and last time I posted was to defend Ramsey and since he has probably been one of our best players over last 5-6 games.

Spot on edd. Ramsey will be pivotal to our next title winning side. soon no doubt :)

Truth be told there are 3 better midfielders at Arsenal in Chamberlain, Wilshere and Ramsey, all are be a lot better player than Cleverley.

Having watched them all a lot Cleverley is without doubt the least impressive. He brings nothing to the Utd team other than being a ball carrier. The Arsenal three in there careers have all changed games with there ability, albeit Ramsey before his injury, he is on his way back there now though.

I would think that Cleverley will be sold to one of the lesser EPL teams within 2 years. Still no real Idea why he gets in the England team. Adam lallana brings more to a game.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would just like to say I've never hid from my criticisms of Aaron and have been the first to heap praise on him in recent months and as posted earlier think he is by far the most improved player in our squad, the criticisms came from all the needless flicks, giving the ball away etc that used to drive me insane.
I never doubted that he had a great talent and never wanted him sold but felt like a loan spell for a year would do him wonders, thankfully he pulled his socks up and has proved all his doubters wrong, but ed is right it's a shame that the doubters are as quick to congratulate as they are to criticise.

Thinking about it, apart from Jack at Bolton has a young player ever been on loan and its actually improved the player?

1404

Agree0 Disagree0

I see Wilshere more like Gerrard and cleverly like lampard

I think Wilshere is better has his all round game is strong and he can influence a game more

At the beginning of the year I would have said cleverly was better than Ramsey as Ramsey had hit a stalemate

But after Xmas Ramsey has really grown and developed whereas cleverly has hidden abit and gets lost in that united team at times
Dandan

Agree0 Disagree0

Good question given that we wanted Ramsey and he signed for you. I think a lot of us are waiting for Cleverley to 'arrive'. Sometimes he looks good, sometimes, he disappears. I find it hard to reach a firm view on him and I don't think I'm alone. However, I feel the same way about Ramsey. He was the next big thing and I, know he had a shocking injury, but he's not kicked on to that top level. So, both have great potential, but neither have reached the highest level yet. And yes, I'd rather have Wilshere and have been quite open on our own page about that.

AJH

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh simple answer neither are top draw tbh. bit like chamberlain, valencia, jenkinson etc

REDman,

What a load of drivel, why would you associate our players with Valencia.

Pathetic excuse, it's not our fault you have not only Cleverley, but Nani, Anderson and Valencia.

Jenkinson got an England call up, Rafael who you guys go on and on about got torn a new one by Ozil, Di Maria, Mata and Hazard, but as usual you let that slip by in your he'll be world class bollox.

After those two games he even came out and said he should have a call up to the Brazil squad. Really.

Wenger to PSG?!
Probably not true as they've been reported as having pre-signed Rooney, Ronaldo, Ashley Cole and everybody else but, if it happened, good or bad for us?
Bit worrying that somebody new will come in and spend even more money down the road. They make out they've not spent anything because they're in profit when actually they've bought loads in 2-3years; Mertesacker £10m, Arteta £10m, Ox £10m, Monreal £10m, Cazorla £15m, Giroud £11m, Gervinho £11m, Podloski £11m, Santos £6m and so it goes on!

If they invest heavily even further then we'll never get above them after two years of gilt edged opportunities to do so.

Found this on the spud page! Glad they know we are the better team!

I just find it interesting how every season we speculate on who Arsenal is supposedly going to sign. Only to find they sign someone completely of the radar, case in point: Monreal. I would personally love to see Isco coming, that's my heart because I know in my head its likely never to happen. As long as I never see Chamakh & Squillachi in Arsenal shirts I don't care who we sign haaaaahaha!

The reason we have started so slowly in the league in the past two seasons is due to the changing faces at the club, to quote jack wilshere; " the last time I put an arsenal shirt on I was passing the ball to cesc and samir, now I'm playing with Mikel and santi. It's like going into a new team. "
Therefore expect little change to the team this summer; maximum 3 players; jovetic, gonalons and corchia/ carajval.

Jovetic is completed based upon champions league football the same with gonalons. The two right backs are being courted so it is a matter of time before fees are agreed and one is signed.
