Sorry to keep on, I know its gone but this is what Wenger said last month

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says talk of Lukas Podolski joining Inter Milan in a loan deal next month 'is a joke'.

I don't trust the man anymore, he lies so much in fear of fans backlash

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jan 2015 23:22:22
BG - he was negotiating a better deal. Why would he show his hand?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he meant their bid was a joke, then he later said they came back with a more serious offer. That's not lying, stop looking for any excuse to slag the man off.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jan 2015 00:26:58
I think he pretty much wanted to sell him from the start of the season.

Last week Wenger was just playing poker and didn't want to show his hand.

Personally, I'm gutted.
Think Pod was well worth keeping considering, thus far, he has loaned Pod and kept Sanogo and Campbell.

Agree0 Disagree0

I blame the stadium for Arsene's not telling the truth, we just need to be a bit more patient then he will be honest

Seriously Banbury? Ffs try not to be so bent out of shape about Wenger.

That is just an incredulously blind statement to make. Like Mourinho not seeing Cahill kick the guy lying on the floor as it phucking feet.

Just how petty are you going to get.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol G62, gave me a good laugh there. A bit more patient? How much more my good friend? Anyone who has been a fan of the club for the last 10 years or more has truly learnt the meaning of the word patience.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seriously BG what is there to trust? Every manager says they don't want to sell or they are done with signings. Mourinho mentioned it like 4 times this season he was done with signings then bam comes in players like Drogba etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jan 2015 11:23:43
Banbury you do know there's no Father Christmas don't you?

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jan 2015 12:00:10
No Santa - another reason to blame Wenger! :)

Agree0 Disagree0

You can't blame Arsene for Santa being on the fictional injury list, just ask Poldolski

Manchester United FA cup history (entering in the third round every year)

2013/14 - Premier league side Swansea in the third round.

2012/13 - Premier league side West Ham in the third round.

2011/12 - Premier league side Man City in the third round.

2010/11 - Premier league side Liverpool in the third round.

2009/10 - League 1 side Leeds United in the third round.

So just to clarify, you have to go back 5 years to the last time United didn't get a Prem side at the first hurdle. In comparison, Arsenal had Leeds year before last. Feel free to not bring up United's 'luck' in future.

Lol rosie, so are u trying to say there's not a conspiracy?

I'm saying anyone who thinks the draws are fixed in any way is deluded. Balls go into a hat, balls come out of a hat.

ROSIE
Did you win the f a cup those years. No
so maybe the Fa cup is giving you a helping hand.lol

So we've got Brighton away in the next round of the FA Cup, should be a good game :) never underestimate teams that are in the lower leagues, got to go into it full throttle if we want to retain it, feeling hopefull :)

Away v Brighton, thoughts on the draw?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jan 2015 21:44:43
Banana skin but we should be ok.

Happy with a draw.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm ok with the draw, would be a big shock. even to me if we went out

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2015 17:51:47
one for the bantermine, would you rather arsenal scored 200 league goals and came second or just get 1-0 and 0-0 results and finish top?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jan 2015 18:16:11
I'm from the George Graham era, so the latter for me every time Saint.

Agree0 Disagree0

Scrape 1 nil every week
Give me that chant
One nil to the arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd settle for a truly competitive second and be more than happy provided it wasn't anything obvious like the PL worst keeper that stopped us winning it.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2015 19:55:32
The aim is to finish top and be champions. so it's a no brainer for me.
I used to love singing "one nil to the Arsenal" oh how I miss them days.

Now 3 nil up with 10 minutes to go and still can't relax.

Mate
Shezza is not a bad keeper, he may not yet be a great keeper
Don't you remember 2 yrs ago De gea was shocking.
I think it will be good for him to be dropped, get focused
For me I would keep him, I think he will come good
I have just watched the arsenal fa cup parade 2014, 30 thousand cheering fans, then I looked closer and right at the back was a man with a placard up saying
Wenger out
Was that you Derby :0)

Agree0 Disagree0

I also remember the George Graham era.so give me 200 goals every time. if I want to be bored s*itless I can visit a museum or watch Spurs. its all about the entertainment for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep

The George Graham school of football for me

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi welsh
agreed, one nil to the arsenal suits me just fine:) come on!:)
COYG andi:)

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Welsh to be fair mate I was referring to the scenario of us having a fixable weakness and not doing anything about it not particularly Szczesney, if I had a keeper in mind it was Almunia and the 2008 campaign
Sorry for misleading you all :-(

Theo back.
Ozil back this weekend.

As is Welbeck and Giroud.

We also have Sanchez and Ox and Ramsey should be back soon.

C'mon Arsene, sort out a DM and a defender and we should be flying up the table.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ozil is back? Dint hear it from AW, just heard him say, that ramsey has a small chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

HOOD
Dags is in the know
He is a bell boy at premeir inn, Giroud tips him the wink

I know we all want Hummel's, but can't see it happening.

Loic Perrin seems decent, but at 29, seems a touch too old.

Winston Reid could be the one. He's 24 and a solid Centre Half.
Out of contract in June and Allardyce expects him to leave.

Would be happy to welcome him as a Gooner.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would be happy with Reid and Perrin, both seem good enough and would be satisfied with just one but both of them would really warm the blood in this coldest of months

Agree0 Disagree0

With due respect, I hope we don't get perrin. While I have never seen the guy, he's basically never played at the highest leve, never won a league title, never left st etienne, not played for france and never played prem football. he's 29 and never left his boyhood club, do we need another older, average player, taking an easy final pay day for his last few twilight years. No ambition in signing player, that has never excelled enough to achieve something in his life. We want winners and hungry players, not another scillacci or what ever his name was with a similar record and we couldn't give away.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would take reid and a very good Dm

Agree0 Disagree0

Neither will do us any harm so I'd welcome both or either

Agree0 Disagree0

I would prefer just one of those in the hope that we go for someone of "top top" quality in the summer. I think if we sign both in Jan that will be it.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2015 20:26:44
winston reid is 26

Apologies AFCF14,

You are correct.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 or 49 or 26 or 86 if they don't duck header's they'll do for me

Agree0 Disagree0

Perrin isn't even 6foot. A worry

Agree0 Disagree0

I forgot to mention that derby, thanks. he's not for me, I don't like the signs.

The only reason why Poldi is leaving the club is because he often scores the goals from outside the area or powerfully finishes within penalty area which annoys AW who prefers when a player scores a goal by passing the ball into the empty net or a passing shot next to the keeper (previously rounding him 10 times with the ball)

Have we as a club lost the winning mentality?
Our title challenge was over in October this season.
From board to manager to players to fans have we become to ready to find excuses rather than solutions for not being contenders.
The stadium, injuries, billionaire opposition, the players weren't available this window, we are only a couple of players short, this players tried that player needs a few more games and so on, we seem to have an excuse for every occasion and accountability is a dirty word accept for a few unfortunate scapegoats

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When did we ever have a winning mentality?
From board to managers to players and some fans we've always had excuses and thus far nobody has found a solution to the problems.
Aside from the usual complaints against Wenger I see his man management as being the biggest weakness. I just cannot see him as a motivator, he doesn't come across as one to get the best out of players and install a winning mentality.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - you have a very short memory mate..

05 Jan 2015 11:03:55
I think we have genuinely been unlucky with injuries this season. Last year players picked up injuries from being overplayed, such as Ramsey. And that's where our title challenge started to fall apart from new year to march.

Granted we are short at the back, only having 6 first team defenders. But Chelsea also only have 6. (Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Zouma, Azpilicueta and Luis). Losing Debuchy and Koscielny was a huge blow. Last year we were solid at the back, with the exception of afew games. Walcott delayed return didn't help either. Injuries to Wilshire, Debuchy and Giroud were also due to dangerous challenges or freak accidents.

Id say our squad is stronger than last season, we have more pace and options upfront. Somthing that hampered us last year. But tactics have failed us once again. Losing points to teams like Hull, Swansea, Leicester, Spurs etc. Games we really should be winning. As per usuall we have failed in the big games. Against Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, Man U, City and Everton we have failed to win any and only picked up 4 points from a possible 18.

When we get our back four playing regularly and Ozil, Arteta, Ramsey and Walcott return to full fitness we will see a huge improvement. Our title challenge may be over but our season isnt. A good title defence in the FA cup and a good run in the champions league would be a good season imo, along with a top 4 finish. Obviously would of hoped for more at the start but we have to be real.

Now we just need to hope we can get a run of wins in the PL, somthing we've struggled with. Stoke at home should be 3 points (No disrespect to Stoke). Podolski leaving is good, he deserves more game time, and now Campbell will get more chances. Poldi going frees up 90k in wages, enough for more defensive cover and maybe a CDM.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Ed025 how so?

Yes we won the FA Cup last year but we were very close to cocking it up.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im just saying that most teams would envy the success you have achieved over the years under arsene, yes your in a bit of a slump, but to insult your manager after the work and effort he has put into the club seems a bit uncalled for imo mate..

Poldi going only free's up £90K p/w if Inter are footing the bill, it wouldn't shock me if we're still paying a significant % of his salary. Campbell getting an opportunity also isn't that great. Is he a world beater? No? Should we have cashed in on him when his stock was high after the WC? Yes.
Have to also say the BFG only looks happy with Kos next to him, he is a bundle of nerves and I genuinely think he's that slow even I could get past him.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Ed025 appreciate your comments but I'd say we're in a little more than a slump. I have been a huge fan of AW but for around 2 years now he just looks defeated, stubborn and out of ideas. I don't want him to leave as the villain, I want his time as coach to go down in history for all the right reasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - fair enough G83, i just feel he is getting a raw deal at the moment considering his history with the club..

83, you clearly implied that we've never had a winning mentality, Ed is simply saying that is not correct - even if it has been a while.

Agree0 Disagree0

83 that winning mentality was very plain to see under both George and Arsene, OK with George it was ugly and boring and Arsene beautiful and sexy but that mentality was there.
If Mertesacker had ducked on George's watch he'd still be ducking punches kicks and tea cups all from the just the tea Lady as a warm up before the likes of Adam's and Dixon got to him next and then the fans would have what was left of him as Souvenir's.
But its happened twice now with little fuss at all from Arsenal's class of 2014

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2015 00:09:32
Say we were to finish fourth, get to the quarter finals of the champions league and win the FA cup, would you consider it a successful season?
What do you think a successful season would be?
For me I think finishing fourth and going on a decent cup run in the champions league and the FA cup would be succeful.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Jan 2015 06:07:43
A decent season would be to compete for the league title.

Agree0 Disagree0

Much like Manchester united this time last season a good season is now impossible but a brilliant second half to the season is possible even if highly unlikely.
We shouldn't under state just how poor we have been if we still consider ourselves one of the big four.
For clubs like Newcastle and Aston Villa our league position is more than acceptable with a CL place still a realistic possibility but I still like to think we are A very big club who have so far this season been nothing short of awful.
We mustn't slowly bit by bit lower and lower our expectations each season and that I feel is happening to us and needs reversing before we do really become Thursday night league happy

Agree0 Disagree0

A good season but not moving forward. champions league is a nice draw but most years you finish second you will face a tougher game.

we need to start challenging but we need a spine first

gk
cd
dm
cf

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2015 10:50:18
And as I put further down Derby, you would have Begovic, Cahill and Bony as most of that spine then think we are going to challenge.

Seriously?

Agree0 Disagree0

I said cahill when he moved from bolton 4 years ago? wenger said he wasnt worth 12mill. he was worth double looking back. at the time we all knew he should pay it.

my spine would be for now
begovic
alderwiereld
wanyama
benteke

what would yours be red dog

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2015 11:28:00
Begovic is better than szcz
Cahill is better than mert
Bony is better than welbz and giroud

Ergo we would probably be better!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks AG

Agree0 Disagree0

AG, Cahill has been terrible this season, and thus the reason why most Chelsea fans want Zouma to start over him.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2015 13:57:30
Haha if cahill is terrible what does that make mertesacker!
Ok, let's have zouma instead he was affordable and available to us!
Deluded

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2015 14:56:25
So what happened to the awesome Cahill and Bony. lol.

Alderweireld, Subotic, Hummels, Van Dijk, and Varane are all players I like and bar Alderweireld all reportedly available. Mangala would have been my first choice next to Koscielny but that ship has sailed and he will be awesome for City.

We need for the here and now so in reality Subotic would be good for me.

DM for me Schneiderlin, Bender or Wanyama. Pogba and Javi Martinez are hugely unlikely. They are all upgrades on what we have. With of the realistic options Schneiderlin probably the most complete. Either of the other two would do it though.

Striker, quite simply Higuian. Knows how to finish. Although I think with our interchangeable front three of Welbeck, Sanchez and Walcott we are not that shabby and neither Benteke, Bony or in fact Giroud offer that much movement or pace.

Goal keeper I have a feeling that Ospina will turn out to be a good buy and should start next game up without a doubt. Szczesny needs a kick up the butt. So I don't see the need to replace unless in a run of games Ospina looks woeful. But let's see.

To be honest, as much as I like Mertesacker, Arteta and Giroud there is no doubt they could be improved upon with numerous players and as Matic makes Terry and Cahill look better I'm sure a quality DM would make Mertesacker and Koscielny look better.

Mate at the end of the day it's a minefield out there of who will make a difference and will we get them. I'm sure 10 different posters would give 10 differing spines to us but we are all no different in that we just want to compete.

The only difference seems to be what we think of Wenger.

Agree0 Disagree0

If benteke is slow then I wouldn't want to race you red dog he's very quick. Bony isn't as quick but his first yard is in his head. Benteke for me though bony misses a month every 2 years.

Goalie wise if them two are good enough for us I'm missing some thing

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol Derby and his players, seriously deluded, talk about a spine, there is no waynama or benteke or whoever, no you mentioned that's why they play for average clubs and look great. Anyone remember Charlie Adam? Liverpool always did this every season buying carroll, Downing, Adam, mignolet, and nothing worked for either of them. And now they are back at it with lalana, Lovern, and Lambert. People just don't get it do they?

Agree0 Disagree0

And ofc golie wise Martinez seems pretty decent as well, the few games he played kept clean sheets and dint put a foot wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

The hood iv never said charlie adam he's terrible. Every liverpool fan wanted bony they got mario lol

When kompany signed for 4mill he was over looked now he's a superstar. I believe wanyama will get better and better. When him and schinerlin go they will drop like a stone

Drogba has told jose to get bony. Surely he knows a striker when he sees one

Id love cech. Hummels. Martinez. Reus. Cavani. But won't happen

Id be happy with my picks but I fear the likes perrin and mario suarez will sign :(.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh well since when did players start choosing thier strikers, that's a managers job, I remember RVP stating Ben Arfa is a great addition to arsenal and now look where he has ended up and doesn't even get minutes at hull. Kompany was always going to turn out good, and the same can also be said about Kosc, who when bought no one heard off. And as far as I can tell you Mario is miles better than Bony, there is a reason he plays only for top clubs while Bony doesnt, last season I am sure you would have gone nuts over Lukaku, 30 million for him everton had to spend and we can see what is happening.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Ben Arfa can't get minutes at Hull, they sent him back to Newcastle who tore up his contract. He is about to sign for OGC Nice.}
