Can we be the condescending ones now?

There there. There there.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just need to say, it isn't over yet, stranger things have happened

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That's true but there hasn't been many funnier!}

Top post! None of this completely patronising 'good luck for 4th' rubbish now.

I have no care who wins it unless we are there fighting till the end.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought you liked LFC, ed 007?

{Ed007's Note - At times like this I love them mate, it's comedy gold.}

Daggers me old mate, I understand what you say BUT you would never see Madrid, Barca, M City, Liverpool or the poor Man U side trying to sign Remy, why because he hasn't got it, why are we looking at a player who isn't the finished article? We need a WORLD class striker if we are to do anything in the 'proper' comps, someone who is proven at the highest level, not having to wait 3 seasons for someone to come good. Giroud did very well up front on his own IMO, he needs more help

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I hear you mate and to throw your own comment back in your face, "Giroud did very well up front", so why didn't Madrid, Barca, M City, Liverpool or the poor Manchester United try to sign Giroud 2 season's ago?

He is turning into a very good striker and i'm sure the aforementioned clubs wouldn't mind signing him now.

Back to Remy. Like I said earlier, of course he isn't the finished product but a goal ratio of 1 in 2 is pretty decent considering he has played for struggling teams, Marseille apart.

How many chances does he get at QPR? How many chances at Newcastle? not many, but he converts them.

How many chances will he get at Arsenal? double the amount of QPR and Newcastle for sure. More chances equal's more goals, and all that in an Arsenal shirt.

Mate, I totally hear what you are saying, but like I said earlier, I can't see Wenger splashing out £50m on a striker, not when he want's a centre half, right back and a top class defensive midfielder.

So, alternatives?
Loic Remy or Wilfred Bony, IMO.

Banbury, trust in Dags, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool signed Sturridge. Look at him now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely NE Gooner.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags they didn't try to sign him because he isn't a world class striker, simple.

Lets agree to disagree, Bony is a better option

Agree0 Disagree0

Going with DG on this one, our power source is the midfield (please Cesc!) and having two competent options at striker is what we need. Both Bayern and Barca kind of the same thing.

Important to have balance we cannot have a fantasy 11 at every position it wouldn't work. Luv the squad needs one or two stars and some role player tweaks. Let's do this!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank you Red Rooster.

Banbury, I would be equally happy with Bony mate.

I've just set up a support line for all Liverpool fans:

0800 3-0 3-1 3-2 3-3

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Love it

Agree0 Disagree0

It was like watching newcastle vs arsenal, when they came back to score 4 goals. only difference being this was a title race.

i did not see much from liverpool to be honest, their defense is suspect and pressing them up the pitch always enables teams to pressure them.

lets hope we can do better next year, and I would like to see how liverpool do with champions league and 3 other competitions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hehe that's brilliant, love it.

What a game at Palace, Liverpool's defence is woeful .

Can you think of anything funnier (football related) than the look on Adebayor's face (at Paulinho) when West Ham scored that free-kick?

Ade you legend.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be fair, they both wince like little babies and turn away from the ball. If they stood together like real men the goal doesn't happen. Simples!

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool only drawing to Palace after being 3 - 0 up comes close.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez in tears at the final whistle today?

Agree0 Disagree0

My source tells me suarez was crying not because liverpool drew the game, but rather because suarez was trying to bite tony pulis but ended up biting his tongue.

Guys, as a reader of this site over the season I think it would be fair to say that when it comes to Arsene, on balance the majority on here want him to call it a day at the end of the season, although I have noticed that these calls for him to go have perhaps softened over the last few weeks. So now as we near the end of the season, CL place in the bag & FA cup final to come, what do we all still think? Still time to go, or perhaps give him a couple more years?
I think for me it's simple. If we don't win the FA Cup, which has virtually been handed to us on a plate, then it's time to go. However, I think the thing that scares me the most, is that I don't think we have anyone at the top level of the club capable of going out and finding his replacement. Can you really see Stan and Ivan interviewing candidates? So perhaps we will need to ask Sir Wenger to do one more thing for us before he goes, and that is to hire his own replacement.(which he can do in German to the person who called him Sir Wenger)!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

People may not believe this, but I am a wenger fan and I have stuck up for him for years. My faith has gone in him now after the humiliations of this season. He is stuck in his ways and is tactically way behind the new breed of managers. Ideally I would like him to be our buyer negotiator persuading players to join us., while simionne, klopp, or whoever takes his place. I still respect him but not as a manager of our football team and I have said before we need a new manager to take us to the next level. But he is staying and I also think there is a lot of negative feelings that will come out big style the first time he fails and that is not good.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry steve, are you serious!? Wenger a buyer/negotiator? This is the man who time and time again has refused to spend money when it's available. No thanks.

When the time comes for Wenger to move on (now is the time IMO) he has to leave the club completely. We've seen how SAF still being involved with Utd has been a distraction and we don't want that same hassle.

A new manager, new methods and new objectives please.

Agree0 Disagree0

I suppose you have a point sad face all though I think wengers fiscal policies have been less damaging than his stubbornness. I think wengers knowledge of finances in the present climate would be invaluable. But he won't end up upstairs anyway, I was just making the point, because I don't trust the other muppets who run our club.

Looking at next season, our back five (maybe four) will be the same; depending on what Sagna is doing.

Ramsey is a definite starter alongside a defensive midfielder such as Lars Bender etc.

The attacking three could be:

A left winger (Poldi/Greizmann etc) plus two from Ozil, Cazorla or Walcott (The Ox possibly)

Hopefully we'l bring in a Benzema/Cavani/Costa etc

My question is, where does Jack Wilshere find himself? On the bench?

Or does Wenger NOT sign a midfielder and put Ramsey and Wilshere together in central midfield?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good question with a few possible answers.

All I know is, Wenger will never sell Jack unless he specifically wants to leave.

As for Jack? He needs to step up to the plate a lot more than he does, and I don't mean the dinner plate.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Rogers at Liverpool got his formation spot on this season and we could match that
Liverpools front 6 (was usually) and what ours could be

Gerrard. Bender
Henderson. Ramsey
Coutinho. Wilshere
Sterling. Walcott
Saurez. Top striker
Sturridge. Ozil

Wilshere would fit nicely into that system in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree with Rocky.playing a diamond 4 type midfield looks pretty good with both Ramsey and wilshire sitting in front of a bender type player. but fitting both him and Ramsey into the 4 2 3 1 formation looks more difficult. As I see them both playing for the same spot in the 2. next to the DM.

Agree0 Disagree0

If rodgers thinks that's the way he will play in the champions league he is in for a rude awakening.

yes they beat us, and they did relatively well, with just one competition to play in. would reserve judgement when they have 4 competitions to play in.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - They won't be in 4 competitions long enough to be judged on it. Without Suarez at Anfield next season should get back to some sense of normality.}

I still want us to try out th 433, with all this midfielders we have. Atleast in some matches, we can shift Ozil to th left wing and put Ramsey Bender Wilshere in th midfield, put Walcott on th right(like always) and in th middle our new forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully we sign Bender and someone else so we can bench Wilshere, he needs a season like Ramsey before he set the league on fire, just getting back on him feet and hopefully them feet not collapsing from underneath him.

Having read a post from someone who timed how long we were chanting on Sunday. Enough said about that, the better.

Watching the Palace Vs Liverpool game and the atmosphere is quality. Chants, drums and long songs. Reminds me of Fratton Park. Small ground, hardcore fans (no prawn sandwich brigade) who make noise.

Now I would LOVE the atmosphere at the Emirates when I watch games but with the whole middle tier cooperate with many not even Arsenal fans, this won't happen.

Fans pay in excess of £1000k for a season ticket and a lot of the joe public, hardcore fans don't get a seat regularly, if at all. Fans often treat it as watching a performance; only making a noise if the action deems it appropriate.

Some things have been bought in to 'create' a better atmosphere (like the flags being waved when we score) but I would love to see a section of the crowd for proper fans who aren't priced out of a ticket. Get a band in there, bang some drums, make some noise, give a guy a megaphone! Anything!

Sadly, in the current economic climate, where money talks and cooperate pay the wages of our superstar players, we'l have to settle for our beautiful, state of the art stadium to be a little quieter than most.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Greeny,
Top class post and one that echoes the sentiment of thousands of supporters, not just Arsenal, but at most grounds.

Not overly appropriate to the post, but i'm from the era when we use to have the marching band at half-time (Goldboy and G62 will know what i'm talking about).

Although they only played at half-time, they still added to the overall noise of the atmosphere.

Sometimes they even had up and coming bands play at half-time, loved it.

I love watching European games, Bayern, Juventus and Galatasaray, to name but a few, where the atmosphere/noise is amazing and intimidating to the away teams.

Personally, I think we should have a big bloke with a big drum and let him make as much noise as he wants.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree DG. More noise! More atmosphere.

An image sticks in my head. Thierry Henry wearing a Portsmouth shirt and clapping the home support after we'd beat them 5 or 6 nil because they'd not stopped singing and supporting for 90mins.

He actually commented along the lines of, if he could play for another English club it would be Pompey on support alone.

Agree0 Disagree0

Palace fans are superb and as for Tony Pullis . Manager of the Year

Agree0 Disagree0

Greeny I remember that so well, they sang their Harry and Jim song louder and louder with each goal conceded.
To be honest I've always felt we have to be lifted by the players on the pitch a posed to the other way round, when the going gets tough we go very very quite unfortunately, this is very much a pre Emirates thing

Agree0 Disagree0

So, a day after Wenger says no-one will leave without his say so, Real Madrid are linked to a move for Laurent "The Boss" Koscielny, allegedly as a replacement for the aging thug that is Pepe.

Now Kos (alongside Per) has grown into an outstanding centre back and one who is a definite starter (when fit).

I think we can safely say that we are under no pressure to sell our best players and I think we should turn the tables on Real Madrid with bids for Casillas, Varane, Di Maria and Benzema. Bully the bullies!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree, let us pick other peoples pockets instead of having our pockets picked all the time.

(Try typing that when you are drunk)

Agree0 Disagree0

Ever the optimist, well mostly :-)
I believe this summer we might just see a reversal in our transfer fortunes, with Arsene starting fires in other camps rather than constantly trying to fight them in ours.
We got a glimpse of it last year with Suarez

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope so gents! I long for the transfer window that I can actually enjoy!

Agree0 Disagree0

05 May 2014 19:45:28
Guys what do you think of Wilfred Zaha ( not talking about signing him), how his stock has fallen in a year, could have come to us and developed into a good player instead decided to join the team "AT THE TOP OF THE TABLE " and is now no where, and I don't think he will get chance at Utd next year also if they bring all the players that is being talked about in the news papers. thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree, he should have stayed at Palace for another year or so and developed his game.

He, for me, is a player who will never reach his potential, unless he stays at a lower end club (no disrespect)

Agree0 Disagree0

05 May 2014 18:19:13
I must say, the arteta poll surprised me. I think he's still of a reasonable standard for a club like ours

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We don't *need* him. He's not great defensively and we have more than enough attacking midfielders. Sell him, free up a place and some wages and bring in a true DM. He's also getting on a bit; nothing wrong with a fresh set of legs that can do everything he can do and more.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair saint he isn't up to being part of a title winning team and is to good to be sat there just let in case we get desperate.
Arsene may well think differently to the fans as he so often does and stick with him, but I'm sorry its a no from me

Agree0 Disagree0

05 May 2014 18:58:08
It was a difficult one but he does cause a lot of concern to most in that role. I think it comes down to what Viera described as Arsene's weakness, his faith in players he should really let go.

I don't know if Coquelin has a future with us but a true CDM ala Bender, Carvalho is what we need in Arteta's position. Maybe Coquelin could be back up and learn if he's deemed good enough. Not forgetting Flamini.

I also think squad depth and how many new players Arsene brings in as to whether he stays or goes.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree saint. We have played him in the wrong position, and virtually run him into the ground. so I think it's a bit harsh to now just dump him. if we want a bigger squad with more quality in depth I think he is worth keeping. even if he won't be first choice next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Jenny.

Arteta should stay for another season to play the squad game.

He has done a job this season but we need a younger, more dynamic option alongside Ramsey.

Agree0 Disagree0

A proper DM definitely needs to be brought in but I wouldn't be adverse as to keeping him for cover and to play against the teams in the bottom half of the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 May 2014 18:07:35
I don't get this Remy bit . someone help me, or go and get help lol

Remy 6 goals in 14 games for QPR

Remy 14 goals in 26 games for N'castle.

Dags, that ain't scoring goals for fun and who said they would rather have him than Giroud? really, 22 for OG this season, that ain't bad

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Barnbury mate, stats can be sometimes misleading because you are not considering the fact that we create more chances than either QPR or NEWCASTLE, plus do you think if Giroud had played for Newcastle or Qpr he would have managed to score 6 goals in 14 games for QPR
or 14 goals in 26 games for N'castle because I don't think that he would have managed that number of goals for them

Agree0 Disagree0

Right, here goes.

I'm not saying Remy is the answer to our problems, but he's a possible solution.

Do you think Wenger will splash £50m on Costa? No chance.
£50m on Cavani? No chance.

Remy is the kind of player Wenger loves to sign.
He's far from the finished article, but if Wenger brings him to The Emirates, he will flourish and turn into a great striker.

Marseille 27 in 68
QPR 6 in 14
Newcastle 14 in 26

Remember the bottom 2 clubs are poor teams, but he still scored goals.

I'm not for one second saying I want him to replace Giroud, no chance, but I would love us to switch to 4-4-2 and play the 2 of them upfront.

Man City 96 goals this season
Liverpool 96 goals this season
Arsenal 66 goals this season.

Why? because they play 2 up top and have an attacking midfield.

You are looking at Remy as the finished article Banbury mate, i'm looking at his potential, he's only 26.

Have said it before and will say it again, and you can all laugh out loud if you want, IF REMY JOINS ARSENAL WE WILL TURN HIM INTO ANOTHER HENRY (capital letters for maximum impact).

I hear what you are saying Banbury and I kind of agree with you, but just remember one thing>>

'In Arsene we trust'?
No, change that to 'In Dags we trust, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 May 2014 16:04:55
What you all think about Strphen Caulker!? Is he good enough to play for a top 4 club!?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'll keep this simple.

No.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can you be more committal one way or the other Greeny? All this sitting on the fence doesn't suite you sir

Agree0 Disagree0

Greeny, I love the effort you put into that post, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't sugar coat things g62 and DG!

Short and sweet. The exact two words that don't describe me.

Two questions Ed:

Any idea what our transfer budget is for this summer?

What is Lamela's situation at Spurs? I know there's no way in hell they'd sell to us, but is he looking to move or what?

Cheers!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no interest in discussing money and if you want to ask a question about a Spurs player, then you really need to try the Spurs page.}

05 May 2014 15:29:34
Interesting stat:

Henry's second season at Arsenal: 22 goals in all competitions

Giroud's second season at Arsenal: 22 goals in all competitions (with two games left)

Don't get me wrong, it'll take a lot for OG to be King Henry but for those of you slated him; he's done alright and will be a good squad player next season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They are completely different players

Henry requires an entire game plan, one to two defenders focused on him at all times

The mere presence of Henry made life easier for those around him

Giroud requires less of a game plan than Andy Carrol

We cannot win major competitions (league, CL) with such strikers leading our line

Agree0 Disagree0

US Gooner, you've completely missed my point.

I know he's not the standard we need but he is squad standard and someone who can come on as a plan b or play home games against lower level teams or cup games as we need to rotate the squad in order to avoid injuries that we constantly suffer!

My other point is he's done ok for all those that slated him. Remember it's not his fault he was over played and knackered as we had no other option!

Agree0 Disagree0

His goal at west ham I think it was showed signs of henry

Agree0 Disagree0

Giroud is a decent option to have, he works tirelessly and links play up well, he isn't the total solution but he is a part of it.
Theo down the middle for me is the other part, his strike rate is very good he has pace to spare and some of his finishing reminds me of Henry more than any other player does

Agree0 Disagree0

I would rather keep him than sell him

Agree0 Disagree0

05 May 2014 15:18:32
Even though he didn't get game time, it was amazing to see Diaby back in the squad, surley him getting even a minute this season would be a trophy in itself? That's 2 cups if the FA cup goes to plan!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Id like him to get a little cameo appearance against Norwich. Even 5mins at the end. I don't see him on the bench for the FA cup as Wenger will surely have

Szczesny, Sagna, Kos, Per, Gibbs, Rambo, Arteta, Poldi, Caz, Ozil, Giroud.

Subs: Fab, Jenks, Mon, Verm, Rosicky, The Ox, Sanago

This is depending on Wilshere being in and around the first team or not so maybe Jenks misses out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't forget 4th place. A treble in sight

Agree0 Disagree0

05 May 2014 14:03:22
Ed002, do you have time to list the possible ins and outs, and players of interest for Arsenal now? Thanks in advance

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really don't have the time right now. I will try and get to it this week.}

05 May 2014 14:08:19
Jusy did a few calculations. Out of the soon to be 100 months Diaby has spent at Arsenal, he has spent almost 40 months on the treatment table.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Which is sad

If he had stayed healthy, he would be at Yaya's level and we would be a completely different team

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's just hope he has all his luck at the end of his career, if luck were to be truly balanced he is going to have some great years ahead and win every title going at least 5 times over

Agree0 Disagree0

Right on G62- Just like to add that this guy has had some serious damage and to me has shown real courage - not to mention iintegrity in his attitude and as far as I am concerned he deserves some seriously good times on the field of play.

Hey edoo2,

Just been told lars bender will be at colney this week to finalise a move to us.

Can you confirm

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Of course not. The transfer window is closed.}

Ed, why isn't Malaga an ed yet?

Agree0 Disagree0

And today he's said he won't he leaving.

We can and should be aiming for much better.

I'd pretty much rule out a move for remy to the emirates after yesterday. If wenger and remy were in talks you can count on the first thing wenger saying to remy being along the lines of keap your gob shut & don't hang around here

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 May 2014 11:28:18
Just wanted to ask you guys would you take nani for 5mil just for squad depth? He is both footed and on his day is decent

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They would have to give us more than 5'million to take Nani, 15 million and Matta, just to be reasonable about it

Agree0 Disagree0

Hes not that good gunner. Your bulling him up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rather than spend money on fee and wages on Nani, why just not fund the extra Sagna is seeking on his new contract?

Would. rather have Nani McPhee

Hi Ed
If Rooney really doesn't want to play under Van Gaal as has been said, would you expect Arsene to bid for him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Know idea, sorry.}

Thanks anyway,

Gunner ill answer that. No his wages scupper that straight away.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 May 2014 13:38:36
Not just his wages, his fat gut, he's butt ugly and in all honesty is the most overhyped English player ever right now.

I cringed seeing him in that advert with Ronaldo and Naymer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - bit harsh that jenny!...oh no its not..its spot on..

And he's a granny chaser jen.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Don't knock it till you've tried it, Steve.}

05 May 2014 14:53:39
How did I forget that steve, I loved Channel Island Gooners description of him, a jacket potato with a number 10 on the back. Lol.

Thanks ed025, I just don't get the thought that's he's currently any good. Back in 2009 yes, now just awful. :-)

I love the fact Utd have kept him and are wasting two great No10's in Kagawa and Mata. That and £250,000+ a week.

Agree0 Disagree0

But Jenny your ignoring his one over whelming quality! He ain't Rio.
Credit where it due,

Agree0 Disagree0

I wanted them to keep moyes for 25 years they sacked him. let's hope they keep rooney for 5 years on crazy wages and disrupt team chemistry.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's in the same mould as ballotelli I.m.o. potential to be one of the world's best but mind always seems elsewhere and forever involved in some sort of controversy. I'd say it's more of who will put up with him than who wants him. Psg if he moves although I expect him to stay and soak up his ridiculous contract

Agree0 Disagree0

05 May 2014 10:56:40
Big shout out to Szczesny and the defenders as he will at least share the Premier League golden gloves with 16 clean sheets. He is tied with Petr Cech who is injured so, if we keep a clean sheet against Norwich then he will win outright.

He's really starting to look like a top quality keeper.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He has done really well this season, he has made less mistakes in a whole season than he has in some games in years gone by.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes he's had a good season and would make a fantastic no 2 when fab leaves. Which keeper would you like in.

Agree0 Disagree0

After what Wenger said Fab might stay

Agree0 Disagree0

05 May 2014 09:35:43
Have we improved?

2013 W 21 L 7 F 72 A 37 PTS 73

2014 W 23 L 7 F 66 A41 PTS 76

That to me is a slight improvement and with 1 game to go we can improve games won, goals scored and points accumulated.

We lost to Blackburn in FA Cup (4th round I think), this year, WE WILL WIN THE FA CUP, so, an all round, if only slight, improvement.

Thoughts?
(Dags now wait's for Steve R's negative "No, we haven't improved" post), lol love you really Steve.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There's no question its improvement DG the stats prove it, unfortunately where the problem/disagreement comes is it could and should have been so much more.
Injuries yes have played a part but also lack of additional players to cope and poor tactics in big games haven't helped.
Improvement by our standards but not by the standards of others is the problem

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Dags. A slight improvement. The FA Cup will be a massive weight off everyone's shoulders.

The worry is the league is getting tougher and stronger and we MUST reinforce the areas such as defensive midfielder and striker etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also Dags, to improve our goals scored we have to score SEVEN against Norwich? With eyes on the FA Cup final I just don't see more than a 2-0.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok wait for it . We have improved our points tally, that there is no argument, and we may win the fa cup ( which any year is not down to improvement but how well you have done in the cup ) which will be great. We probably keep more clean sheets against lesser teams than most. But we still have to go through the lottery of the cl qualifiers and after a world cup year, not really what we want for next season. We have not improved against the teams that matter in the league, in fact it makes pretty grim reading. I don't see any tactical improvement either, Sorry for being so possitive at the start.

Agree0 Disagree0

I liken our season to being on Who Wants to be a millionaire, we walked a way with £32000 still having 50/50, phone a friend and ask the audience when the Question was which one was not an invincible
A Henry

Also if you say we have improved fom last year, the previous year we were third then dropped to fourth and are still fourth, I honestly fail to see what we are improving on.

There seem to be lots of posts regarding Cesc Fabregas recently. Would just like to know - is there any real news or official statements to suggest a) that he will leave Barca. b) that if a=yes then he will definitely NOT be coming to Arsenal .
I would imagine that if he were available he would probably enjoy playing alongside the current midfield.
Unless of course Man U decide to really tell the authorities to stick their Fair play rules up their gonga and offer him a Rooney salary.

Apparently Barca will have a major re-vamp and Cesc could be a casualty of that.

If he becomes available, every club and his dog would be interested.

Watch this space I guess.

Ed002, could you write an in-depth ins and outs list, similar to the one you wrote for Chelsea last week? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

{Ed002's Note - Time is the problem - I will do it when I can.}
