can anyone remember where palace were when pardew took over? he's done a cracking job. haven't seen him getting anywhere near as much credit as pulis was last year

Believable2 Unbelievable0

06 Apr 2015 23:24:51
dags?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - dags has lots of alias,s eden...but ED025 is not one of the mate, plus my jokes can be funny sometimes..

06 Apr 2015 23:43:13
i think dags stole your password :) why do you think pardew is getting less plaudits then pulis got?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i dont really know eden, but one things for sure, the guy is doing a damn fine job and has the eagles flying at the moment mate..

06 Apr 2015 23:43:13
If this was true its time for us all to go sit in a rubber room and twiddle our bottom lips, eden how could you send me to bed with this thought in my head :-(

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 00:03:48
Have to say, for all the time we were getting linked with Winston Reid, I couldn't help but think everyone was looking at the wrong London club. For me Scott Dann is a very underrated player, and am surprised no one else has sniffed around him. Might be a handy number 3 with the hope he steps up another level and becomes a must play?

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 00:19:17
Lol, nice one Ed.

Eden, Pardew has won a very impressive 8 out of 13 games a Palace Manager.

06 Apr 2015 22:36:43
Lol ed025 can't wait until we get rid of the deadwood!! Especially Flamini he's cost us at least 5pointsss I'm just hoping we sign the right players! And challenger in the leauge and Europe!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think you will imired, next season will be massive mate...hold on to your seat and enjoy the ride..

06 Apr 2015 23:06:18
Contradicts all of todays earlier posts where many were chuffed at the internal development of the team and our resurgence (all because of injury forcing wenger's hand as he clearly had nothing to do with it ;-))

All for a little trimming of the squad players and 1-2 big signings - Cech and Spyder would suit me fine and a season off for Walcott and Ramsey to recapture their form.

06 Apr 2015 23:33:39
You speak a lot of sense a lot of the time rooster

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i thought that baggins....he must be on the wrong site.. :)

07 Apr 2015 00:04:49
Well giroud got injured on 26th august I think. if he stayed fit past the window we wouldn't of signed welbeck I'm sure of that.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 00:23:22
Agree with Red.

Over the years we have scrimped and saved as bought bargain bucket players.

Now, we have a squad to compete with anybody.
Not just a first 11, but a terrific bench too.

Let's keep the majority of what we have and add a few quality players, to push up to the next level.

Not sure if anyone is watching the City game but with 15 mins left they are two nil down to Palace.

I thought they may have retained their title at seasons start but it's seriously falling apart.

Next weeks game was looking huge for United, now it looks huge for City and more likely that they'll get beat.

Would be great to finish the weekend fixtures in 2nd.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Apr 2015 21:52:23
Finished 2-1.

Get in there Palace.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good result that dags..

06 Apr 2015 21:55:54
great result for us, a manchester draw next week would be very nice

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i can see that happening eden..

06 Apr 2015 22:01:06
One step at a time but 2nd is ours to lose now with 7 to go :-) never dreampt I'd say that after we lost at Southampton

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 22:19:40
Very good result Ed.

Would love us to finish 2nd, although in Chris's eyes, that's an under achievement :-) .

Finish 2nd and retain FAC?
Well happy with that.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - and well you should be dags..

06 Apr 2015 22:23:39
Sure is g62, now the hard work, starting at Burnley, begins and a draw between the two Manchesters would be a big bonus.

We just need to look after ourselves though and not worry about others.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - burnley will be a big test i think red dog, they are fighting for their lives and you know you southern softies dont like the cold up north mate.. :)

06 Apr 2015 22:51:00
I didn't say it was underachieving dags and u know it, I said u being in second and Chelsea likely winning there game in hand as it stands puts u 10 points behind them, my point was that's not competing.

But U know that u little toe rag.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - that last bit did make me smile chris..

06 Apr 2015 22:56:04
Ed025,

It will be a big test but we are taking the Coq with us and I know normally most of the Northern lads like Coq but apparently Burnley aren't to keen. ;-) lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - "they dont like it up em captain mainwaring".. :)

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - they filmed frozen in burnley eden...its that cold up here that one night the flame on my lighter froze mate.. :)

06 Apr 2015 23:04:03
We will see on Saturday what Monaco has taught us, personally I think we'll be fine and what looked like a disaster a few weeks back might just serve us well for the run in and into next season too. Burnley are a decent side and have a good record against the bigger teams but we have a new found fight to go with the ability these days

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 18:08:32
Ok.....good points about Sterling BUT my point poorly made...granted is that there is no way on this earth he will sign to stay sitting on the bench , yes he is an excellent prospect but an attacking one......an area where we aren't short let's be fair .

I believe the 30,000,000 can be better spent ....at the moment

Believable1 Unbelievable0

06 Apr 2015 18:45:48
A stunning player who without doubt would have us all off our seats and if he came part of a swap for Theo then yes please but not at the cost of Cech or Spyder for me.

About time, well said Mr Rednapp. Please share with your diving friend Owen: "When he's at his best he is worth paying to watch. Against Liverpool, Ozil was at his brilliant best in a massive game. You don't become a Real Madrid hero or win the World Cup without being something special. Ozil is just that.
"When things don't come off for the German, people are quick to criticise. We do that too much in this country - looking at what people can't do rather than what they can - and it's where we go wrong so often.
"No, Ozil doesn't charge around like Alexis Sanchez so people say he doesn't care. Just ask Liverpool if Ozil cared about the game on Saturday."

Guess people are beginning to understand what and who we signed.

Huge Ozil fan! Well played Ozil - I think we are lucky to have him.

Great pass to Rambo for the first goal, always available, good work rate and done lovely touches. However, because he scored, others start noticing him. He has really been training hard to get into shape and modify his game for us - we are truly benefiting .

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - good post that SY..

06 Apr 2015 12:05:31
Excellent post SY mate, when the free kick went in thought that's bought him a reprieve for the day because as you say some people only judge on the obvious much like Giroud who now gets some long overdue praise by some people that's been warranted for 18 months.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 13:03:16
Excellent post mate, as always, there will always be those that look on the negative side but Ozil will be huge for us.

The squad as a whole has taken a big step up, yes we need a few extra additions but we are no longer awash with deadwood unlike others within the top 6 or 7.

We are taking a whole different demeanour into the last games of this season, nothing is in the bag as far as league positions go behind Chelsea and there is the matter of a semi final to win before we even think of a final.

We may as Chris pointed out have said or expected things to materialise over the last 9 years but this squad seems a whole different kettle of fish.

Most still tar us with the same brush and only continued results in our favour and against the top 6 will prove them any different.

I honestly believe that Wenger will again win the EPL before he hangs up his coat, zip and all.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 15:01:01
End of the day reg dog we have waited 18months for that and it is all we have wanted. Let's hope it continues.

I feel if we are top next year like we were last year going into the end of the season we you see what were made out. We love playing catch up at the end of a season

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Apr 2015 15:04:09
A good post too Red, before Christmas we looked a long way from being ready to compete not just because of injuries but for many reasons that were more than well documented at the time by lots of people not least of all myself but things have changed unbelievably since then.
Cazorla has been typical of that change going from a player on the way out to very much a player reborn and Monreal too has gone from being a likable tryer to a very much an achiever, I'm really hoping Theo Gibbs and Jack will follow them into raising their game and consistency levels too.
It would be lovely to win all our games a be crowned champions but in reality we have to accept there may still be a bad day at the office yet left in this season somewhere and if that happens we should remind ourselves that that as much as one swallow doesn't make a spring ( beating city) neither does the odd duckbilled platypus make for another ice age :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 16:41:31
That's exactly it g62, Chris keeps referring to us as everyone does, an Arsenal that has played great football but won nothing for years and simply looks to win the fourth place trophy. That is for me, history, the team has adapted and changed into a team who attack together and like Cazorla said, defend together. We know what it takes to win big games and can recover from defeats like Monaco.

The FA Cup gave the team a taste for success and you have to start somewhere to get a winning mentality going.

It is something you cannot buy and we now have it, we need to keep it going through 9 more games and on into next season and beyond, we truly have a great mix of players in our squad that we all know a few additions to will make us stronger as other teams will strengthen. We will not stand still and we will not lose ground.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 18:23:02
Runners up and Fa cup is my kind of failure especially for a team that is on the way up rather on the way down.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree mate..

06 Apr 2015 19:01:01
And it's that sort attitude which is why u have never really been contenders for the title in the last decade mate. Once u have accepted 2nd best that's all u will be

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats unfair chris, no one is saying second best is good enough mate...only you..

06 Apr 2015 19:20:48
You said you understood what g62 was saying but you're clearly not.

This January as a team we turned a corner, Not in June, July last year when it would have made a huge difference to our title challenge.

It is simply beyond our reach now because that corner wasn't turned until January. So 2nd and an FA Cup win under those circumstances and those alone make it good enough.

You are simply talking about an Arsenal of old mate, you need to leave that behind, you need to leave the Ferguson era behind equally as much.

It's all new open ground mate and next season will clearly be a whole new ball game.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - let battle commence..

06 Apr 2015 19:34:10
Ha Ha ed025 are you throwing grenades? ;-)

I just think people including Chris look at Arsenal under the same light as years gone by, we are buying better players and playing with a confidence and style we've all been waiting for.

Nothing is garaunteed but we look fit to fight.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree mate, and chris thinks the same about united, so both teams could be fighting it out for the title next year, as i say...let battle commence..

06 Apr 2015 19:44:00
Got you ed025,

My bad, I think everything makes it look like next year will be a belter, hopefully way better for the blues too. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im not banking on that red dog...but it could be a cracker next season with chelsea, arsenal, city and united all chomping at the bit, i think it could be the closest title race ever and i for 1 am watering at mouth at the prospect mate..

06 Apr 2015 19:46:47
Lol ed u stirrer u.

Look listen to me dog and G62 I know what u are both saying, my argument is its the same thing u have been saying for the last 5 seasons now, agree?

So, so far all we have is ure OPINION that things have changed. Its mine that I don't think they have, I still think u will have a few Monaco/villa games next year and still fall short against the top teams when the pressure is on.

U asked do I concur that your defence looks better, Yes I do mate. But I also think your defence 2 years ago when u went on a run of 1/2-0 wins towards the back end of the season was just in as good form if not better than this one.

G62 said he was happy u are competing with the top clubs, I said how are u competing? U will likely finish about 8-10 points behind Chelsea. That in my book is not competing mate. It's doing well but far from competing in my book.

As I said if I offered u this season up till now after u won the cup last season would u of took it? I highly doubt it.

I'm sure I've seen somewhere today u are in exactly the same position points wise as u was last season, but now ure 2nd (for now) so what does that tell u? The league is not as strong, heck even we are being talked about as maybe putting together a challenge (Which we won't).

Competing in my book is not about winning 4th/3rd or 2nd place but pushing Chelsea or whoever is top Untill the last 1 or 2 games with a genuine chance of overtaking.

As eddy said u are in a way competing against a top team/s for 2/3/4 place but we are all some way off Chelsea atm imo.

Performing with no pressure is a lot easy than performing with pressure and against Monaco u again showed U can't. And that was only 5/6 weeks ago so please excuse me if I don't quite buy into the new found mentality u both are claiming u have.

Just my opinion fellas

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i enjoyed that chris...a load of claptrap..but i did enjoy it mate.. :)

06 Apr 2015 20:00:31
Lol eddy, u are prob right mate.

Sometimes my mouth does talk before my brain thinks mate so it's quite plausible I am wrong.

Please though guys understand I will be the first over from the other pages if u do prove me wrong congratulating u.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 20:23:06
Chris I get where you are coming from and it's all opinions but as a gooner the last run can't be compared to this, we have been on plenty of runs and played some amazing football since we last one the League and you are going to lose games each season.

The likelihood of going unbeaten is slim.

But this is an Arsenal we have not seen since those heady days, this is an Arsenal that can now pay for top talent and an Arsenal that can defend.

Games like Monaco and in your case MK Dons or Leicester happen, you go onto the park wondering how many you're going to score and before you know it you're on your arse.

So games like that happen, we lost to the spuds, you can't win every single game but we now play a totally different way, it's no longer all guns blazing and yes we all say long may it continue and until it does we will be doubted.

Is it really any different to you believing that 2 years of no trophies will naturally come to an end next year.

Coquelin whether you rate him or not has confirmed to Wenger that he can no longer go without that type of player, his like is a must for teams that want to challenge.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good post that red dog..

06 Apr 2015 20:30:38
We know you will Chris and its all good banter mate, we can all say were going to do this that the other but the proof of the pudding is in the throwing it in your face like a custard pie mate :-) only kidding mate your a good bloke really.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 20:50:58
Great post Red Le Coq Ozil Sanchez even Gabriel are all very significant signs of this is a very different Arsenal under a very different Arsene Wenger.
I understand those who say yeah we've herd it all before but all of us on here follow the club closely enough to understand that this time things are very very different to anything we've seen for at least 5 years probably more

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 20:56:07
I'm the best G62 ask my mum.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 23:02:16
Chris, did we "perform under pressure" @ Old Trafford in the cup? We've beaten your lot under the pressure of cup football on your home track, City @ their home and dismantled Liverpool. You point out Monaco as if they're inferior, I say they'd have taken your lot 5-1 @ OT BUT,we'll never know, as you weren't good enough for the CL! Oh but, you wouldn't have wanted to be there anyway right? 2nd to 4th isn't really competing, right? I think deep down, you're very happy to be "not competing" but challenging for a CL place, wonder how it'd go down if you missed out on the big show 2 years in a row. Good luck though, if you make it, watch out for the big, bad Olympiacos and Basel they've been known to pull your pants down.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - great post outback..

06 Apr 2015 23:41:37
Redman you do make me laugh - apart from 3 or 4 recent games, United have been awful all year, Van Gaal has been a joke, and the football has been like watching paint dry - with the added bonus of the man the fans christened 'useless lampstand' now Van Gaals most indispensable player. Only God knows how you are in the top four.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - bribery is my guess baggins..

07 Apr 2015 00:14:33
Lol, so everyone disagrees and thinks finishing 8-10 points off Chelsea and finishing 2-4th is actually competing!

The mind boggles it really does.

Outback, no lady season we were poor, have I argued that? Have I said I think coming us coming in the top four is an achievement? Because I have not, not once. I have said it's what I expected and anything less would be failure, but that's fine u aim for the 2nds and 3rds of the league and call it competing.

Monaco stuff us 5-0 haha not a hope sonny They shouldn't of got 1 let alone 3 at your place but your team froze again. Yes u came to OT and beat us fair play, I went over that then and maintain my opinions on the game 100% but I've done that to death.

We will see u at OT in May mate, and hopefully be in form still unlike that week.

5-0 lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 11:41:54
Oh, and I said 5-1, not 5-0.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Apr 2015 11:39:33
Like I said Chris, we'll never know what Monaco could've done at OT, because United aren't good enough for CL this season. In fact, we also missed seeing how your lot would go against the might of Guingamp, Legia Warsaw or Dynamo Kyiv as you weren't good enough for that level of competition either. Probably for the best though, as, I doubt your lot would be able to "compete" for that title either. Just like the PL, the League Cup or the FA Cup, where you were dumped out at home....

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 10:19:04
We don't need Sterling IMO, where would he fit in....as a starter ........he wouldn't .

Has anyone seen his stats this season.......hardly electrifying.

Not for me

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - hes a very good player BG with a big future, its a squad game now mate and he would be a great addition i would think..

06 Apr 2015 10:42:59
Good player but certainly not what we need at this time, Cech and Spyder plus some good squad players to replace those who will go in the summer but who won't necessarily expect to start immediately would do me.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 10:49:51
I honestly can't believe these posts, do gooners really think they don't need sterling?

The boy is going to be a massive player in a few years.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you chris, a squad can never have too many quality players mate, and i believe raheem is one of them..

06 Apr 2015 11:01:04
It is but to sit on the bench?? i'm not so sure

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 11:25:26
He's 20 mate and only going to get better. So if he warms your bench for a year. If u develop him well he will be a great player for many years on the pitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 11:29:47
I'd much prefer his brother, 'a billion pounds'

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - nice one saint.. :)

06 Apr 2015 11:31:32
I'm with you Chris and ed,

It's so all about the quality of squad, it's like saying get rid of the Ox or Januzaj because they've predominantly been on the bench.

He frightens the shizzle out of defences and with players like Sanogo, Campbell and Podolski no doubt moving on he would replace any or all of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 11:41:01
Sterling would not make our starting 11 if all fit. However, we hardly get our best 11 out. He would be an awesome signing BUT we need other positions first and foremost

If we have a spare 50m after a CDM and CD - sign him up.

Sterling had a great game and would benefit from training with Wenger and the players we have.

Great player but not a priority - we don't have the oil money like city or Chelsea

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 12:54:11
There u go again SY4, it's irrelevant about how much money those clubs have now with ffp in place, u need to stop this "we can't compete money wise" stuff now.
It's a myth, u like United and all others that generate huge income can compete with anyone.
Start taking advantage of it rather than feeling hard done by all the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 15:02:29
Campbell can go. Rosicky won't last foreve . And we will soon decide if welbeck is striker or winger

I'm a big fan and would love him her . He would do better here I feel. Return to London and a better group of players around him and champs league football. Him on one side Sanchez on the othe . Wow

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - now thats what i call 2 wingers diarby..

06 Apr 2015 16:48:30
Just want to say my phone plays up when a do a full stop it takes the last letter off sorry about that

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 16:53:08
Its all righ for you Chris but champions league clubs have to comply with the ffp rules, back in the day when you were in Europe's elite competition they weren't invented I know, I'm not sure if they apply to the Thursday night football league but if they do you might need to cut your debt by a billion or two and will no longer be able to boast such players as Ashley Young Smalling and Cleverly.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 17:53:51
That's fine G62, that joke won't last forever.

It's your deepest fear when United eventually get it together. And we will :)

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Apr 2015 18:48:23
Why would you believe Arsenal would fear United to that extent Chris, Chelsea, City, Barca, Madrid and Bayern are all currently big challenges and no one is standing around waiting for the United of the Ferguson era to reappear.

We would fear you no more than other team in direct competition with us.

Do you believe you actually have a squad to challenge when most of you say you are a number of players short of an actual 1st 11?

Do you see your squad as close to good enough.

It's like you saying Arsenal only challenge for fourth, why with 2 years without a trophy should we imagine you are going to win the League or Champions league any time soon.

Genuine question mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - and a fair one red dog..

There are a lot of jokes in the league G62 but just remember when United and Chelsea do well in Europe and are looking strong we make u and the league look better.

U would be nothing without us ;)

I haven't said at all what we will do next year mate, but I tell u what we won't, and that's be happy with settling where we are now, that's as a club and fan base

None of us want to settle for anything but the best but circumstance sometime play a big part in dictating what you get.

The circumstances have changed massively as will our targets mate, we'll be going for it every bit as much as you next year. ;-)

A post i read yesterday and I think it's One of the best in ages which pointed out this.

Without giroud getting injured in august we wouldn't of signed a striker

Without arteta flamini injuries we wouldn't have left coq back

Without fabinanski turning down our offer we wouldn't have ospina

We also were lucky to survive until Gabriel signed.

Funny old world and I'm glad Wenger's hand was forced

And miraculously without Wenger doing a single thing they are playing some fantastic football. Thank god Ivan Gazidis had the foresight to sign Sanchez and Ozil.

It really is a funny old world, you would never believe just the right stars being in alignment could have made all that happen. ;-)

I agree mate it was a fantastic post, but did you know some of the best discoveries/inventions in history happened by accident?
Fate gives us all lucky chances every now and then and our destiny is up to us whether we maximize or waste those chances, Arsene's deffinately maximizing on his good fortune that's for sure.

{Ed025's Note - it was by accident that i came over to the arsenal site G62...so i guess your right mate.. :)

Couldn't agree more with g62 and I know it's been said before but it's been a pleasure to have you on board ed025.

This page has in my honest opinion become the best and a lot of credit goes to you as well as some great posters like g62 and Derby.

And that's being genuine ed025. :-)

{Ed025's Note - second chris?...as you said to G62 ..only winning counts as success so that makes me a failure.. :)

I didn't say he hasn't done anything but he hand was forced surely we all agree on that? Its there to be seen
guys.

I know we are on a high and can still win the league but next season it starts again and teams invest. Won't be easy.

We all know exactly what has happened Derby but we also understand that you have to be switched on to make the most of opportunity.

Wenger has done that, the team is doing that and we all go forward together mate. :-)
