As it stands, this is the way I see things.

Man City.
The team to beat.
They have strengthened.
Sagna, Fernando, Lampard and Caballero.
Mangela probably on his way.
Phenomenal in attack, with options upfront.
Like I said, the team to beat.

Liverpool.
Have they done a Tottenham?
Like him or not, you can't argue that Suarez is arguably the best striker in world football.
He will be sorely missed.
Llallana, Lovren, Can, Lambert and a few others in.
Too many too gel?
Can they cope with European football as well?
More questions than answers.

Man Utd.
Luke Shaw and Anders Herrera in.
Sold, Evra, Buttner, Vidic, Ferdinand, Bebe, Lindgard and Giggs.
Very poor last season.
Need more players in but no European football, which is a major plus.
Moyes out but Van Gaal in, another plus.

Chelsea.
In, Fabregas, Filipe Luis, Drogba and Costa.
Out, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Demba Ba.
Bore me to death, but are always there or there about.
Much will depend on Costa.

Arsenal.
In, Sanchez, Debuchy, Chambers and Ospina.
We have strengthened and the new players should gel.
But, without a recognised world class DM, we have a soft underbelly, which needs to be remedied.

So, in my opinion, slightly biased, we have had the best transfer window, to date.

But, like aforementioned, Man City are still the team to beat.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Great post. I don't get the sudden love for Chelsea over City, City haven't lost anyone and had a few injurys last year.

Jovetic in pre season looks great, he's going to be like a new signing.

& They're going to have a CB partnership of Kompany & Mangela which is frightening. No doubt that City are the favourites and the team to beat.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 23:55:25
Forgot to mention.

As a gesture to our fine Ed, I would throw Everton in the mix.
They have bought players in but I think Doofy will be a bit of a miss, but good business in securing Lukaku and signing Mo Besic.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - we are not finished yet dags, but cheers anyway mate..

Spot on mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post dags. I am a little sensitive to the soft under belly jibe as none of us are getting any younger. The Arse are definitely in the mix has you say here.

One thing we are all trying to avoid discussing because of our sensitivities, is the fact that Cesc will be massive for Chelsea this year. The team sets up really well for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me it's
city and chelski as the two to beat
Then Arsenal as we will have under achieved again if we let utd Liverpool or Everton finish above us.

Agree0 Disagree0

You have missed quite a few players off the Chelsea list mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Who Bambam?

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 22:40:47
Straight swap.

Vermaelen for Alex Song?

Get back to me. If I'm not in, leave a message after the
Beep.

Beep.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2014 22:49:44
If Song was our last DM option, then yes, I'd certainly do it; however, we have other options. better options

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi I have a message for Dags.erm no

Agree0 Disagree0

If Song was our last choice as DM I'd get my gran to play, pretty sure she'd give away less needless free kicks on the edge of our box

Agree0 Disagree0

Obviously I hope it doesn't come to that, but If it was the last option available, would you not try for mascherano insted?

Agree0 Disagree0

That would be a great signing, DM and a good 3rd/4th choice CB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just a check was that one of your jokes Dags ( it wasn't funny but most of your jokes aren't )

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 22:40:28
Giroud gets some bad press on here I have not a clue why,

1st season 17 Goals
2nd season 22 Goals

Last season Ramsey and Walcott missed many games and the odds are they would have supplied many more chances for the Frenchman, Ozil is still finding his feet as well.

I will say again Giroud does more than his fair share, the midfield mob need to raise their game in
front of goal, the return from them isn't good enough

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed, not only is he a serviceable striker but his style is so different than what we have - that it gives us the strength in the spine that we need - valuable player. Prefer boxers over the briefs though ;-))

Agree0 Disagree0

His hold up play is fantastic, and his goal tally isn't too shabby either.
I hope he proves a few people wrong this season

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm a big fan of Giroud and would hate to see him go, not your traditional Striker but he fits our style well, with two pacemen on either side of him, we'll rip up.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 21:11:44
1404

I will bet you a tenner also on the same terms as Eds

Giroud will end top scorer if we don't sign another striker

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2014 21:43:28
Bambam,

You must have just posted before me.

1404, I will have a piece of that pie please.

All monies to charity.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd offer the same 1404 but this could be well expensive for you if Giroud does finish top as our bill will be £10 a man at worst yours could be hundreds mate

Agree0 Disagree0

In my pocket Dags :)

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 22:56:00
Bambam,

My wife has spent the £10 already.

Bless her.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can I suggest that 1404 pays £20 total if Olly is our top striker and we all pay £10 each to Water Aid if he isn't?
Great charity but not saying many many others are not as well

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - that works for me G62

06 Aug 2014 23:46:35
And he must do a forfeit.

He must put a pic on sightings of him wearing a spurs shirt.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats just cruel dags..

07 Aug 2014 00:06:24
There's no such thing as a nice forfeit Ed :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2014 00:18:22
Dags, I would not wish that on anyone (except that guy who keeps posting all the jokes, I forgot his name).
I'm in, but I think Walcott will finish top.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2014 08:42:53
Ouch MgM, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 21:04:34
So United have moved ahead off barca to sign vermaelen if that's the case I say keep him let his contract run down and he can leave after that we need to grow some bulls and not sell to rivals

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can't remember him scaring any top 6 team or doing much better on europe, i'm sorry what ever any one says he ain't going to blast us to the next level. Sorry I think he's average at best. Please wenger sign a striker who can cut it at the top level.

Agree0 Disagree0

This post above should be in the one above

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2014 08:17:54
I don't like it anymore than the next guy, but its a business, not a charity.

If its a few £m fair enough, but £10m is a lot of money.

Money that can be put towards Carvalho or Khedira.

I understand your point but it has more holes in it than Ed0025's underpants.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 20:53:55
Giroud needs to be on the bench he's an average striker the chances he missed last season were unbelievable especially Chelsea at home is he better than bony, remy, lambert, benteke, lukaku I'm not too sure but I'm confident with our supply these guys would get the same amount of goals as giroud if not more so we need a new striker a world class striker we need a striker to finish off games

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2014 21:49:39
Name me one striker who doesn't miss chances?

Granted, he does miss a few, but how can you slate a guy who scored 17 in his maiden season, than 22 in his 2nd?

As a Manager/Chairman/Board of Director/Supporter, all you ever hope is the player(s) improve.

Has Giroud not improved?

Agree0 Disagree0

Last season Giroud had to work harder than any other striker in the league playing both provider and top taker plus quit often defensive duties all as our only striker in almost every game.
This season we will see less quantity and much more quality from Olly

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes he did improve last season but the half he played against Monaco summed him up for me lazy, spends to much time on floor for a big lad we do need better. I know your properly going to say its his first game un just a friendly but to me these games are used to get fit but he's not going to get fit standing on the halfway line.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunner62, I couldn't have said it better. I like Giroud, wit Mikel(perfect hair guy) most likely leavin. We need Giroud to take over th hair business on th pitch. Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Imired I certainly don't think any of those strikers you list are any better than Giroud, and certainly not for the 20 million quid upwards it would cost to get one. Show me a forward who doesn't miss chances? I watched a fair bit of Spanish football last season and despite the fact that Diego Costa had a good season with AM I still saw him miss plenty of chances. I agree that you might have more clinical finishers than Giroud, but if they don't play to our style like Giroud does then they won't be worth it anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 20:44:39
Well the club and Arsene have done what we've been wanting them to do for years and spent some decent money and IMO spent it really well.
If we're really lucky we might just get one possibly two more players in before the deadline but what ever happens the season ahead looks full of promise for us.
There will be some fantastic highs and I'm sure one or two lows along the way but if we are still in with a realistic chance of the title with 3 games to go I will be happy.
We can debate who else we should have signed and even regret the causalities Jenks/Varmullen ( I'm still gutted for Jenks)
But on the whole its been a great summer.
Let's get behind the team 100% and just for once enjoy the ride UP THE GUNNERS

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2014 22:20:09
Damn fine post G62.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 20:08:13
Quick question, does the Shield count as a real trophy compared to say the league cup?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not in my opinion Red, its just a traditional friendly that's the warm up act for the main event ahead.
Its 5 runs below the 4th place trophy

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 20:59:42
If you look at the history of any club, it will show the Community Shield in it's honours list.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ofc it is, just look at it Utd won it last year and everyone praised Moyes, this time they won some other poor cup in the US, and again the Praise LVG. So yes ofc it is.

Agree0 Disagree0

You're right Dags. Only the big boys play in the charity shield, winners of major trophies, any old poop plays in the league cup, unless you lose, then it's just a friendly innit!

Agree0 Disagree0

Neither manager who lead the teams out last season kept their jobs and during the traumatic few months of Moyes reign at old Trafford I never heard one person offer the community shield victory in defence of him. Its a pleasantry that sometimes turns into a battle and others just a knock about.

Agree0 Disagree0

The positive effect it will have if we win it though.

City are bound to be favourites for the match as they are for the league. An Arsenal win will increase our confidence and maybe dent theirs. A good omen right at the start of the season.

Might not be an important trophy but could be an important win

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 22:21:51
Giggidy giggidy Ulster.

Agree0 Disagree0

In Germany and Spain I think they refer to their own version as a super cup. Only in England do we downgrade it

Agree0 Disagree0

Gooner1920
If in England both sides played their strongest 11 from the start and extra time and a replay if necessary were applied then it would be a super cup, but serious and super serious work both ways, its a friendly, a good friendly but none the less its a friendly.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 19:44:52
Will tomorrow be Khedira Thursday or Carvalho Thursday?

Come on Arsene, we sign player's on a Thursday.

Have I mentioned that tomorrow is Thursday?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

At least it won't be Remy

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 16:52:18
There is only one Naija Gunner and that's me.

Long time guys! I've not seen Cavalho play but I prefer him to Khidera, it's about time we start to buy strong players (Sanchex is an example), I wish we sign him on time and stop wasting time before Morinho play a fast one on us

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How can you prefer someone you have never seen to someone you have?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, I haven't seen cavalho play on live TV before but I 've seen him on y*utube and other site. besides, he looks hell of a strong guy to me but khidera is a fragile looking dude and he's usually exposed against a technical team like Baca, Dortmun, AM . we don't need that kind of player.

Ed002 thanz for my earlier rumour reply.Ed002 are u expecting any more signings for arsenal this summer? Thanx will really appreciate your reply.plz post ame reply

United have lost another key player. Howard Webb has retired

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When Eric Morcambe died, Ernie wise tried to carry on as a solo artist, but without his best friend and comedy partner soon realised it was time to retire. Same with Howard Webb I expect, retires one year after sir Alex.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good stuff caveman..

Ed seem's the pundits already gave this season to chelsea/man city, I do know for sure they will be disappointed come may, arsenal got's what it take's to be head of the packs, more signing's or not.

Love to see us sign:
Balloteli
Agger
Carvalho

Sell:
Djourou (has he gone yet? Still on official site)
Flamini
Arteta
Miyaichi
Coquelin
Vermaelen (wants to go & never the same player after achilles ops)

Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Arteta and Flamini should be kept as they are great for depth and backup if we do end up getting Carvahlo or another DM. IMO Ballotelli is not the player we need, he is a complete trouble maker and is too unpredictable, its not worth the risk.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 08:35:33
I'd keep flamini and tv, coquelin looked decent at one point.
Carvalho yes, mad mario no and agger had a poor season last year, plus has ynwa on his knuckles, so don't see it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - what you have to realize MgM, is that YNWA stands for....you,ll never win(the title) again..

I'd be happy if we got Carvalho and Balotelli.
If another CB comes in I'd rather it be someone of better quality than we have. Agger isn't that.
The players you have listed to go I'd maybe keep Flamini purely on his versatility. Could cover right back and obviously in midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 09:39:17
Just replace Balotelli with Reus. We'll be world beaters then! :)

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 11:03:57
Mate no way should Flamini go he was solid last season and can cover both full backs Personally would keep Coquelin as well for the same reason and get Vidal + replace TV5 then we are good to go!

Agree0 Disagree0

MgM,

YNWA mean's You'll Never Win Anything.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - what about living in the past awards?..

I don't think we should sell flamini. He is a very vocal player and can also play in multiple postions. Plus we won't get enough money to buy a replacement from his sale

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 02:22:29
AW said that the last 2 weeks of the Window will be busy. I'm guessing that he's feeling no pressure and any other signings will be late and at his price.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

05 Aug 2014 23:47:47
reporting Balotelli in secret advanced talks and fees agreed with club and player.

I don't believe it because surely we want a DM first and a CB if TV5 is off to Barca?

I hope its true tho, any ideas?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't want balotelli. he's too much trouble imo. We don't need that. We need someone like jackson martinez or similar. But who knows, wenger might be able to tame the beast.

Agree0 Disagree0

No thank you

Agree0 Disagree0

After landing sanchez we don't need balotelli. rather sanchez play down the middle and try get a world class player such as reus or wait it out until someone becomes available.

Khedira, Pogba, Carvalho should be the priority now, and a replacement for verm.

Arteta can leave if we get a CDM, Monreal can leave if we have a LB in the pipeline or someone with some potential and Cazorla can leave if we actually get reus, other than that I don't see us making more than a CDM and CB signing and push on to the next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi guys this story keeps popping up but think if we were going to sign it it would be done by now. Def worth a punt at though at his price

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2014 23:29:21
If its true that Barca have bid £10m for Vermaelen then I think we should take it. We cannot let another Captain go to a rival. Gallas to Spurs, RVP to United and Cesc to Chelsea is more than enough.

£10m for Verm is pretty decent to be fair. But who would we get to replave him? A young CB who would improve and eventually form a partnership with Chambers? Or a more experienced cover who can be relied on? I can't actually think off too many players who would be available.

Ashley Williams? Ron Vlaar? Fabian Schaar? Benedickt Howedes? Martin Caceres? Winston Reid?

Ed, do you know of any players Wenger may look at?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - search function should help mate

06 Aug 2014 11:07:21
For me Ashley Williams is perfect last year of contract, another Wales national team player to link with Rambo and will leave Miquel (who has looked very solid in pre season) room to progress with Chambers!

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2014 22:20:52
Hi Eds really intrigued to know what players if any from the youth set up are being earmarked to make the step up? and what is your personal opinion on who will be given the chance to make the grade in the firsts?
Thanks in advance

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - Gnabry was the breakthrough start last season, this season I expect it to be Bellerin. Likes of Pleguezelo, Zelalem and Crowley are definately ones to look out for. I'm also hoping Hayden and akpom are given a fair crack in the years to come

05 Aug 2014 22:15:48
What's going to happen to Luiz Gustavo if Guilavogui is going to Wolfsburg?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Madrid been linked with Gustavo

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 07:34:22
I'm just throwing it out there.
Santi to Atletico
Guilavogui to Wolfsburg
Gustavo to Madrid
Khedira to Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 11:11:38
Yep that would be sweet!

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2014 23:22:54
Anyone else notice things are going a little quiet on the rumours? Hav'nt seen as many "Khedira due to sign" Or "Carvalho bid made" Lately! Making me think that maybe Wenger is happy with the current squad but I still feel we are lacking a CDM like the 2 mentioned and the same problem we had last season has not resolved which is bringing in a big name forward (Unless Sanchez is going to be playing CF instead of Giroud) hoping that we will make another signing soon!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I prefer sanchez in the middle, pace, playing off the last man and he has skill. will add another dimension to our attack with ozil behind him.

if ox steps up and takes the left or right wing then sanchez should play the false 9, his workrate is astonishing and he would relish being the focal point. giroud for me would be an able backup

Agree0 Disagree0
