So Wenger says there's 4 boxes to be ticked when signing a player.

A) Talent.
B) Age.
C) Must improve team.
D) Resale value.

Lacazette has talent, is 25, has scored more goals in 3 seasons than Giroud has in 4 seasons and Walcott in 10 seasons and will have a resale value.

Maybe Wenger should add E) must only cost £5m max.

Lacazette is a no brainer.

I think this is the only thing that gets me about transfers.

Before Chelsea and City got money United were the ones with financial clout and had a manager that won things.

Because they speculated, they truly accumulated, both trophies and vast amounts of money. A perfect example is the crazy sum of money Adidas pay them each year.

So I don't understand how a money orientated owner like Kroenke doesn't want to build a club that wins and gets everything that goes with it.

This penny pinch crap makes zero sense.

Dags what was the criteria when we signed andre santos, miachi, chamach, inamoto, sqillachi, debauchery, park chu young, gervinho and emanuel eboue. They must have made us change that criteria to our present one. Welcome asano, you are the next generation. I know i left out xhaka and rob holding on purpose, i'm sorry.

Steve, you forgot Sanogo mate.

I think Wenger's main criteria is "Cheap".

If you are cheap, you are guaranteed to be signed by Wenger.

Buy cheap buy twice, my local £ shop had some impressive looking 5 steak knives for £1 but that's works out quiet expensive when you go through 15 knives for every 8oz steak :-)

Is everybody in agreement that any signing we make is now too late to feature against Liverpool?

Scousers must be licking their lips.

Man City on sunday will be a more accurate assessment of whether the young back line can hold firm start of the season.

The two lads who run the local shop near me are Liverpool fanatics and they are very excited, we were chatting last night about how a poor Liverpool ran Gabriel and Chambers ragged for the first 45 minutes last season and we all agreed wether it's Gabriel and Chambers or Holding and Chambers its unlikely to be pretty to watch for Arsenal fans, if Kos ain't available whatever combination we use looks totally lost without Kos to hold their hand which is a ridiculous situation.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 17:17:42
We have enough to beat them without new signings, 3-1 for the Arsenal.

Looking forward to the Xhaka - Elneny powerhouse in the midfield and they are both newish and a nice improvement. COYG.

I think 'pools front line will be far too lively for our defence, we won't have it easy the following week either.

I commented a couple of weeks ago, a bad defeat to Liverpool might rush Wenger into the transfer market.

Just sign Ashley Williams for 12 million how could he not improve us as a player and motivator?
Forget all about resale value just do what needs doing.

Agree1 Disagree1

06 Aug 2016 17:50:48
Their defence might be bit suspect too.

Skrtel n Kolo gone. Sakho is injured I think and having off field issues. They might have to debut that Estonian they've signed. Big game to be making your competitive first appearance.

Goal keepers could be decisive. We have a worldie in Cech and they have the Belgium backup in Miglonet.

While their forward line is tasty it might not be all doom and gloom.

Agree0 Disagree3

06 Aug 2016 22:14:11
Ashley Williams is exactly what we need, bags of premier league experience, leader who wouldn't need Kos to hold his hand through games but instead would relieve the pressure on him when playing together and would also hold our defence together when Kos is missing like no one currently can.
Such an easy solution to our CB problems its unreal and at 12 million so easily affordable even for us.

I do think if we don't sign anyone before liverpool and we do lose, the sh £t will hit the fan and we will probably get our arses into gear and sign someone to quell the discontent, so a defeat wouldn't be all bad. I seem to think we have been there before.

The way I see it is supporting Arsenal is like us all having a really close mate in common, a mate we've all grown up with and shared some fantastic times with as well as some not so great ones too.
10 years ago our mate decided to build a mansion and explained he wouldn't be able to stand his round as usual for a bit and might need us all to club together to pay for his holiday meals out we shared together but once he'd got his finances all sorted he would see us al ok for standing buy him
Without question we all agreed to help support him through this tough financial period and made sure he didn't go without anything during it, we accepted he couldn't buy us much in the way of birthday presents for a while and might even need to flogg some of the fantastic assets we had all chipped in for to make paying for this mansion as quick as possible and get back to the good old days again asap.
Well our mate is and has been for a while now well and truly back on his feet financially and his bank account is bulging but he is still refusing to stand his round and keeps coming up with excuses as to why he can't pay back the support we gave him.
I don't know about you but I get the feeling our mate is and has been for a very long time taking us for fools and has every intention of continuing to do so as long as he can get away with it for, also he has absolutely no intention of repaying our support at all.
For me he will always be a mate and I keep hoping he will come good again by getting back to his old self but as things stand I'm finding him less and less interesting to be around each day.

06 Aug 2016 16:48:23
Aye I agree. For me he's like that d**khe@d Cousin everyone has. The one who's still the same stubborn obnoxious idiot he was as a teenager.

He frustrates the life outta ye but you still love the bugger and want him to wise up and get with the real world before it's too late.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 08:23:32
Arsene said last night, when asked about a striker;

'"The price of a player is down to four ingredients. One is the talent, two his age, three is how much you expect him to improve your team, and four his resale value.

What utter rubbish.

He's just bid £20m for Jamie Vardy, a 29 year old with almost NO resale value after 2-3 seasons.

This stinks of 'I have no plan and I'm waiting to see what happens elsewhere'
Eventually, it'll be too late, nobody will be selling because they can't replace and then he'll be going on about 'we were active but there was nobody available'

Believable5 Unbelievable1

06 Aug 2016 09:09:43
D - if you read the quote, it unfortunately makes lots of sense. Vardy at 20m would have added value and probably required zero sell on value. Vardy at 30m probably required some so would not make sense.
The four point plan is perfectly sound business reasoning and explains why we pass on certain players while signing others. What's unusual is that the manager makes these statements rather than the chairman.
There are clearly still plenty players that tick those boxes and we have signed such players eg Sanchez, Santi, Granit, Giroud, Ade, Henry, Paddy, Elneny, Overmars, Anelka, Cech etc etc
The 4 point plan was effectively why people on here were saying we would not sign Higuain but thought Gruezmann may be an option.
We all want signings, it sounds like we have a plan and sounds like he needs positions filled so let's see.

Agree1 Disagree5

06 Aug 2016 09:27:12
Arsene stated (not word for word here sorry! ) that 'if a player meets all 4 points, then price is not important'

As far as I see it mate, he's saying he wants players that would have resale value, in case they want/ have to leave, but Vardy would of had none.

Look, I'm all for backing Arsene and I certainly don't want us spending money for the sake of it, £70m on Higauin would definitely been silly.
But at the same time, I have a real feeling that Arsene and co are waiting around for transfers that may never happen, instead of actively chasing reinforcements that would benefit us.

D

It's not going to happen, I said weeks ago unless we sell a couple of players to fund another buy it won't happen, when do we spend 70,000,000 without anything coming back

TFI always works on net spend

He's happy with what he's got

The season starts next weekend, as I said a couple of days ago . it's too late.

Agree5 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 11:42:29
It's so frustrating tho. I really don't think that much even needs to be spent. A CB. I reckon we could get for around 25m. If that's too much throw like 15m for Williams see what they do. The CF sure that'll be more but I still think we can get by without one. Only if the likes of ozil, Ramsey, cazorla, ox, Alexis and iwobi chip in with more goals. And giroud to I guess. Surely they should have enough attacking power between them. A solid back line would do more for us than a CF I think. In the ideal world they'd get both but I can't see it.

Agree0 Disagree7

06 Aug 2016 12:55:40

WOW!
What a bunch of heroes our Arsenal team are. Back slapping and high fiveing each other after beating this Norwegian club from Stavanger with a ground capacity of 16,300.
I bet the premier league will be trembling in their boots after that win.

No please give me a break, it's a friendly, it's getting fit and enjoying a relaxed game of football with your team mates.

The opposition doesn't have to be Barcelona. No one is carried away by it and no club would take pre season as a guide to the premier league.

Agree5 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 08:39:48
Mate it's a FRIENDLY, no one is thinking hell Spurs won 6-0 a few hours earlier they're going to win the league.

It's a game played in a relaxed atmosphere where players try stuff they've done in training, managers try out stuff or young players to see where there at.

If you play a game like that you are going to have fun and play with a smile it's pretty much exhibition football so your post is somewhat over the top.

Mourinho, Guardiola, Conte, Klopp etc will all be using these games to look out, try out and get their respective players fit.

If Sunday we lose 4-0 to City and our players look miserable is that suddenly the end of the world.

As long as we don't pick up injuries and players getter fitter and sharper that's good with me.

Agree3 Disagree10

Yeah man, friendlies are pretty much just to build fitness, get some fringe players a bit of a run out and a maybe a chance to shape some starting 11's for the openers.

It was a confidence builder, especially for the likes of Akpom, Holding and Bielik who got decent time under their belt.

It was also a good game for Ox and Santi, who've been struggling for fitness.
Santi playing the whole 90 was a dream!
I read somewhere that Arsene thinks he's currently a bit 'fat' and needs to lose a few pounds.

If he plays like that carrying extra timber, I'd love to see fit Santi!

DAGS. DAGS. DAGS.
You are so sexy when you are angry.
Listen mate I posted that financial report that stated we had a comfortable 50 mill to spend unless we went into the overdraft which had another 50 mill to dip in to.
That was ages ago. That came from a reputable company that I wouldn't imagine would mug themselves off by publishing a load of bo££ocks.
Then you get the financial whizz kids on here that spend a week explaining the ins and outs of a cats arse about what we should have in the bank when its already been published by the club! .
Fact is Dags I think we should realise by now that when it comes to transfer negotiations Arsenal are messers mate.
Wenger didn't get that hooter by coincidence Dags.
