Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

06 Jul 2014 23:16:42
Hey there. Looking like 40m of the (reported) 100m will now spent if we are successful in capturing Sanchez and Debuchy.

If our main slots to fill would be GK, RB, CB, DM & ST that would leave 3 slots and 60m budget. How would you see that 60m being spread?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We will spend what we need to. The '100 million budget' is just BS made up by the press.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its 40 mill euros, and the Eds have said wenger does not have a budget, rather he can sign the players he wants, and if we do land sanchez he will be our stellar signing, everything else will be squad depth or reasonable quality.

Having Remy in a trio with sanchez and walcott does not sound like a bad idea now. dags call your mate and tell him the cabs outside.

the only interesting bit, considering we have no chance to land the player, Marco reus is 3/1 to join Arsenal, and those are the best odds at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gk - Ochoa - free
Cb - Veltman - 10mil
Dm- Spyder 20mil
And a winger probably Cuadrado -30mil

Agree0 Disagree0

G95 is correct

100 mill is laughable AW will never burden himself with that

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger will never bring in that many new faces in one window.

I'd expect a keeper on top of what's already been mentioned and maybe a cb if verm really
is adamant on leaving

Ed's is it true Barcelona have accepted a bid from Arsenal re sanchez?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

I'm suprised the rumour, "my mate" works for the club shop, and has been told to order more z's.

Cheers ed, just read it sorry, thanks again, about time wenger paid the asking price, the haggling days are over.

Apparently Barcelona have accepted a bid from Arsenal for Sanchez.

Any truth in this Eds?

Eds, who is our main target in the defensive midfield position?

Cheers for all your work.

Hi ed any truth that sanchez is having a medical at arsenal tomorrow my mate text me saying it who is a season ticket holder and die hard fan like me

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I wouldn't think so.}

05 Jul 2014 16:27:53
Hi Eds,

Who is Arsenal's most likely signing as a holding MDf? and how about reports linking us with Manolas (Who I think is a very good man to man def )? Many thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I cannot answer "most likely" questions.}

06 Jul 2014 20:55:47
Big 10 days for us - few big signings to show our stature, intent and financial clout

A team with a spine and pace while no longer being one dimensional. A bit of bite so we defend better and a bit more pace to scare oppositions.

Take advantage of our title odds are now and put on a tenner!

Come on you Gunners!

Clearance Sedoof said when playing in Brazil the youngsters from the fevelas were hungry and excelled to escape poverty then stopped progressing once their future is safe.
Our youngsters don't need to get anywhere near the first team to make their dad's wages look stupid and can afford fantastic cars at 18 or 19.
Let's face it Betner can afford to retire from what we paid him and what did he achieve in the game?
Too much to soon dulls the appetite

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I read somewhere about Connor Wickham (21) on holiday posing with bottles of Champagne at £17,500 a pop, my wife's car didn't cost that!}

Its crazy 007 a lot of people in this country don't earn £17,000, .
How can a player keep his feet on the ground long enough to learn their trade and aspire to greatness when their millionaires by 20 years of age?
It does nothing but their bank balance any good, £1000 aw maximum for under 21s would do them so many favours as players and people in the long run

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 19:40:48
Sedorf is talking sense, how many Brazilians set the worlds a light up to the age of 23/25 and fall away into obscurity after that. Ronaldinho went from best in the world to mediocre in 18mnts.

Oh and Ed. thanks for letting us know who wears the drivers gloves in that relationship!

06 Jul 2014 19:48:37
Agree G62.

I read that too Ed.
The worst thing is that's just the tip of the iceberg, Kids don't want to become footballers for the love of the game, but for how big their mansion will be and how many supercars they can park on the 200 foot driveway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe a pay limit on under 18s of £300 18 -21 £1000 21 - 25 £5000 25 plus sky's the limit.
No birthday cakes under 35s and a life time ban for shooting an apprentice and biting an opponent.
Their so far detached something needs to be done for their own sake as much as anybody's

Agree0 Disagree0

As they say money talks, the fact an average player now costs insane amounts of green coloured paper, its no surprise that most of them feel they are gods gift to mankind.

while we are busy celebrating the possible arrival of Alexis Sanchez, fingers crossed, I have been intrigued by how players at southampton have handled the transfer saga. throwing their toys out of the pram, shouting screaming, holding their breath till their face turns blue, and forcing the saints hand into transfers. clearly the club wanted to keep the players but it goes to show loyalty in football is left to the yesteryears.

after having RVP and cesc do the same to us in recent times, I feel for the saints fans, they want their club to compete and win, and this FFP BS is nothing but a farce.

while i'm happy suarez is going to leave our shores to bite on the other side, in a way I am also pissed off we can't beat liverpool with him, I want to play against the teams with their best players and I would have like for the saints to keep their players so they could show us that last year was not a fluke, and while liverpool are busy raiding southampton, I think Wenger and Arsenal should stay clear of players who try to force such moves, its inevitable should a bigger opportunity arise you will be on the other end.

Gunner62, I was just about to say something like that. would be the ultimate incentive to continue to improve!

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 23:38:50
I think G62s argument misses the point though, the ultimate incentive should be to play football for a living not a fortune. Be a hero not a millionaire

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Sheeny I agree no kid starts off with the intention not becoming a millionaire from football or if they do we never hear of them because to be good enough to make it you need the ability and passion for the game.
Its when they get the money that changes, if you come from a regular family who like most people have to save for things like holidays cars Christmas presents etc and then at the age of 18 you are suddenly earning 50 x as much as everyone you grew up with its got to be difficult to stay level headed and keep your feet on the ground.
Its giving too much financial freedom to those to young to appreciate or cope with it and far too many become detached from reality, they need protection.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 18:21:08
The longer sanchez rumours go on the less likely it will happen. I really can't understand wenger sometimes? For the sake of a extra 5 million he could have this tranfer sealed and delivered, also allowing barcalona to buy suarez which would in turn really weaken one of our rivals. Also why let sagna go on a free and then pay out 10 Million plus wages for a very similer player. Come on arsenal sort it out.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

For me this Sanchez saga has Higuain written all over it

Agree0 Disagree0

Higuain was a done deal 10 x over and had 28 medicals, Sanchez hasn't even bought a house in London or ordered a Rolls Royce in red yet, hardly the same chaps

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I heard that sanchez was signed, the delay is due to the multiple medicals.

arsenal don't want to take any risks so everytime he takes a flight or moves more than 5 miles he has to undergo a medical. hence the holdup

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 17:01:24
The world cup has shown the to have a good tournament you don't have to have loads of good players, so is there a case for giving some championship players a run in an England shirt? Players who feel their country is doing them a favour and feel every game could be their last in that shirt
Effort pride passion and total commitment virtually guaranteed v Luxembourg or Germany and friendly or world cup final.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Jul 2014 17:56:38
Not employing clueless managers such as Woy Hodgson, the Wally with the brolly and Graham Turnip would help. None of whom showed any ability to get a team playing quality football at any time in their careers.

Pochettino showed what you could achieve with a mixture of youth, experience and some flare. None of his team could be described as world class but he gave all the big guns a run for their money.

A lot more than can be said of England who went out with the same points total as Iran, Japan and South Korea.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think roy is a bad manager, he is quite capable, the issue I have, similar to wenger, is the fact that with age comes ego and arrogance to discount certain factors, and stick to what I call a very one dimensional way of playing or thinking.

its the age factor, and a young dynamic manager with a hunger to drive a team can go along way.

look at the US coach as a prime example of lack of talent yet he made his team go out and kick some. those guys would probably struggle to get into a top 10 team in the EPL, but together they kick, fight, run, jump and play for each other and their country.

In the English national team, its liverpool, vs man utd, vs arsenal, vs chelsea.

if gerrard has a good game, the pool fans sing his praises for saving england, there is only one gerrard, if rooney scores a goals the united fans banter on how rooney is a legend, and so on and so forth, the team itself for me is divided with some sort of animosity or jelousy or something trivial, will england succeed in the near future? for me NO, its got nothing to do with the epl quota, its quite simple introducing futsal or something equivalent at grassroots to give kids and youngsters a technical advantage, to have the confidence in their ability, and create some sort of a freaking identity.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 21:47:22
Lakerville, if Arsene called it a day and they announce Roy Hodgson as our new manager?

Might be a nice man but he is like a lot of managers that just rotate around the lower clubs like Steve Clarke, Mark Hughes, David Moyes, Tony Pulis and Alan Pardew.

Never going to set the world alight but they do ok and England manager material, never in a million.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me if we really want the England team to do well then the PL need to back the England manager. The USA proved that playing as a unified team rather than a collection of individuals is far more succesful in international football. Yet it seems that England never play the same team in friendlies leading up to major tournaments, as the manager has to promise the club managers that he won't overwork their players. If this promise is not forthcoming the players are just withdrawn due to a 'minor injury' only to play a few days later for their club. So for me the England manager must be able to pick whatever players he wants for all games, and any picked player who is withdrawn will not be allowed to play for his club for their next game. That way perhaps the manager could start building a consistent team with a spine and who turn up to tournaments at least playing as a team. I realise that with our injury record this could backfire for us, but at the end of the day I wouldn't expect Wilshire to slot straight into our team after a period out, so why would anyone expect him to be able to just turn up for England and play like an international?

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't remember where I read it, but it was along the lines of, the managers at grass root levels are learning the trade themselves, so the process of having some experience for that level is quite amateurish. so effectively the learning curve is either really bad or non existent till they find themselves thrust into the limelight with hopes and expectations of a nation, while being told they are the next big thing.

Eds, is sanchez a target for the winger role or striker?
or in other words, will we still be looking at signing a striker or a winger if we sign sanchez? Thanks, as always.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - as far as I can find out, having asked, it is a bit of both. Seems Wenger is looking for flexibility in his forward line to try and get the best out of Giroud.}

06 Jul 2014 16:25:41
This according to a website.

Arsenal and Barca agree the transfer of Alexis Sanchez for £32m.

Personal terms have been agreed between Arsenal and the player and Barca are very happy with the payment terms of the transfer fee.

Would love it if we sign Schneiderlin, aka Spyder.

Had the best Defensive mid stats in prem last season. Most tackles, most interceptions and highest work rate.

we need a player who can boss the middle of the park, break up play and protect the back 4.

we need a player who the will scare the life out of the opposition.
No offence to Arteta, who is a terrific squad player, but is about as scary as Louie Spence holding a kitten.

Come on board Spyder.

I think WAq part summed it up earlier in that in this country we are obsessed with speed and power, and smaller more technical kids are overlooked. I think we need kids playing much more 5 a side style football for longer and not playing 11 a side where the biggest and strongest kids win the day. We also need to educate our kids better rather than them sacrificing their education to play football. Once we have sorted these issues out I think we will see a better calibre of English youngsters coming through in both premier teams and who knows, even in oversease teams.

To YYC,

Re my earlier post about English teams signing too many 'foreign' players, to the possible detriment of our national team.

Yyc, you said maybe I should reverse the question, that's a damn fine question in itself mate.

So, a question to you all, courtesy of Yyc.

Why are our young English players, possible future stars, not being snapped up by Foreign clubs, who have a fair share of foreign players in their squads, but not too many English players? (Bale apart).

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Jul 2014 15:55:02
Rooney was one who could maybe have gone abroad at his peak but being that he is thicker than a whale omelette he could never learn another language, I mean sheesh he struggles with scouse. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry post cut out eariler incase it doesn't get posted it just said about English think the EPL is the best league in the world and not playing in it is a disadvantage. I don't agree with that but I do think English players that go abroad do get overlooked by the England set up, look at the owen Hargreaves situation

The amount if foreigners in the premier league doesn't hurt the game. As young kids grow up trying to finish like Henry.
Look at France where the majority of there team plays abroad. The issue is not enough English player play abroad. And we play the 'English' game too much at international level. You watch the England team we play like a westham or Bolton. We need a philosophy a style of play and we don't have that and Roy is not the guy to introduce that. You also have the fact that unfortunately some players are un-droppable so you will strong to play and attacking 433 with Rooney and Gerrard in the team. Just my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 16:12:03
I heard Rooney got arrested last night for nicking a packet of Cherry Bakewell's.

The police let him off with a warning when he explained to them he promised Coleen he would never pay for another tart again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sadly its money again, both silly transfer fee's and wages for young English players.
Sheffield utd probably pay as good wages as most ave top flight continental sides.
When it comes to the best young prospects their probably on 30 to 50 k in England where as a young German Dutch or Brazilian player might be lucky to be on a quarter of that if there lucky

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 16:57:22
Because they're not good enough.

Sturridge/Sterling/Ox/Wilshere good players but wouldn't make Barca/Madrid/Bayern. Maybe the Big Italian clubs but that's so poor now.

So why then go play for say Valencia? Anything in the Prem is better than anything outside the big clubs from other leagues.

1) There is such a passion to the game in England, each club has it's Immortals (Passion only rivalled by the Germans)
2) Great game attendances (Bettered only by Germany)
3) They have a chance to play against some of the biggest teams in the world. The Prem has Arsenal/City/United/Chelsea/Liverpool and Spurs and Everton would make Champs League in any other divison. Newcastle then are an old dynasty.

In Spain its Madrid/Barca then Athetico had a great season last year but they're club is not on par with any of the Prem teams I mentioned. Nor are Valencia.

Germany only have Munich, Dortmund had they're most recent 15mins and the likes of Shalke/Wolfsburg/Bremen all put in a good season here or there but would never make top four in the Prem.

Ajax are in a sub-par league

The only league with an amount of great teams is Italy
Juve/Milan/Inter then Roma/Lazio/Napoli
Parma then the old dynasty
But all of those are rubbish now

Who knows though if the French league continues to develop maybe .

Not hungry enough when growing up Dags.
Simple as that.
Like the Rocky film Eye Of TheTiger.
Just take a look at a lot of the African players and South Americans. Come from very poor backgrounds and work their hearts out to become successful.
Most of them started off with no boots as you well know. Football is a way out of the poverty for them just like most successful boxers. Most of the English born players have never been anywhere near that type of hardship. Anyhow that's my opinion to your question.

Considering all the paper talk going around about Sanchez being moved to make room for Saurez and Di Maria being expendable for Real, factoring in for the very real likelihood that Liverpool and ManUtd will be looking for a player of that calibre to slot in as will we, more so if Santi chooses to leave.

So, which one would would you rather have us go in for and which of those would you not want our league rivals getting? And to tjink we haven't even considered interest from other clubs here or other players either. It's all getting heated and we haven't even gotten started yet.
All those Higuain rumours seem to haunt me even today.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Di Maria would be the cherry on the cake if we signed him. Amazing pace and skill but he will be big big money 40m+. I'm not saying we wouldn't spend it but with the prospect of getting Sanchez for between 25-30m could he do a similar job to Di Maria. Absolutely. Also I see the possibility of another striker bought in if Sanchez is bought in as I don't see him personally as a "down the middle" front man. Will be much more effective coming from wide.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 13:31:50
If Santi leaves we need both.

But considering we should get 18/20m for him and I think Di Maria will go for 30m-40m because Madrid have tried to get rid of him for the last 12mnts. That would mean a net spend of ~£25m on Di Maria

Sanchez for anything under £32m is a steal. Hoping it's the £25m BBC have tagged. That would be £50m for two of the best wingers in world. Less than a striker goes for.

Add Remy to please Dags of course. £8m
Debuchy £8m
CB if Vermaleen leaves which would pay for itself
Kepper £5m

for a net spend of ~£75m

Unfortunatley this will never happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm a big fan of Di maria, but as far as a car or la replacement goes, surely the ox, rosicky, Wiltshire, can fill his boots.

He's technically very good but for me has been poor post Christmas last season

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 14:32:43
Sheeny, you the man.

For me, £8m for Loic (we are on first name terms, you bunch of oinks have to call him Remy or Sir Remy), represents a bargain.

I have been practicing Loic's (Remy to you lot) signature.
Arsene, (Wenger to you lot), where do I sign?.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jul 2014 10:37:19
Quick round up on this windows transfers .
Sagnas replacement? Debuchy more than adequate for me. PL experience, right age ect and judging by some stats on ssn better than Sagna last season.

DM upgrade? I think we all agree arteta is not mobile enough any more. A great pivot point for want of a better phrase when teams are sat off of us. Khedira first choice for me, but wouldn't be upset if schneiderlin arrived instead.

Winger/forward? Sanchez appearing on the arsenal website may make a little wee escape. but any one of Sanchez Pedro dimaria or draxler be superb. If we're being honest, a predominantly left sided wide man is most needed. A striker with real pace would be a useful addition. Benzema is the obvious choice, or maybe bring Campbell in until jan and see how things go.

Defence? Per and kos. Widely regarded as best defensive partnership for a long time. Generally agree, however, I think we need another CB with pace. Last year against teams like city liverpool and anyone who attacked with pace, the BFG just looked like an accident waiting to happen. Against teams with a slower build up, he takes up great positions and reads situations very well, but run at him and he looks worse than stepanovs.

Or should I say Captain Per

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know Arteta is vice captain, but if Vermalen leaves (we know it's likely) and Per isn't made captain, I will honestly kick off.

He's just such a model pro.
He's a superb leader and a great worker.

I saw a video yesterday called 'The 3 Germans' and it was Per, Poldi and Özil talking to a BT interviewer, it's old as Özil didn't talk much English at all, but Poldi and Per were just loving life.

You need that in a club.

It's safe to say that like Dags and Remy or 90% of the population and Giroud, I do have a slight man crush on the BFG!

You've got to hand of to Van Gaal. He's led the Netherlands to the semi finals of the World cup. With a long list of trophies won at different clubs it's hard to call what his biggest achievement is.
I'm going to go for the 2009/10 season at Bayern. Ended up winning the domestic double, and getting to the Champions league final.

And to top it off, during 2009 he won Britain's got talent by singing "I DREAMED A DREAM." while dressed as a bag lady.

What a guy!
