can't see it happening but i've saw on the web that when wenger leaves Bergkamp is lined up to replace him. He's just as much of a legend as wenger is but he's to inexperienced

Bergkamp5353

Believable1 Unbelievable6

As of now he is being lined up to take over the youth setup from Brady, eventually with a possibility of taking over from Wenger when he leaves.

Again how will he attend away games in Europe and Asian tours pre-season as a manger when he won't get on a plane.

SY4,

It's a question that we can agree to some but not to others, that's the reason for your split, I agree with what your saying but just not all your choices.

I'm not sure Cesar and Williams are where we should be going, others I've heard about but not seen.

We just need real quality, nothing less.

Some of these arguments against my previous post are just plain stupid and not very well thought of! You can chuck all of your stats at me, which for future reference I did look at before sending the post, because in reality that's all you have to do is watch him for 90 minutes week in week out and think to yourself, is this the man who i'm confident to do the job of leading the attack of this club. The club that's had such strikers as Henry, Bergkamp and George. The club that's been known world wide for having players who know damn well where the net is. By all means disagree to my posts about the abysmal frenchman upfront, but by disagreeing with me you're only confirming my belief that it's the reason that people you is because this once great club's standard of player has dropped and is being accepted.
Also a shout out to US Gooner, the only poster on here who has a brain.

CheetahChaz97

Believable6 Unbelievable15

"The only poster with a brain"
*sigh*

The Swede

Agree9 Disagree6

I appreciate the shout out but I am not the only poster with a brain.

I simply have not seen what has changed in Giroud from August until now, as in.

What has he learned? Is he playing better? Is he more a part of the attack? No he is not. He is the same player. What about playing at Arsenal has made him better? Please don't say he runs for 90 min, so do Ronaldo and Messi, but we commend them for the footy they play, not their effort

I was one of Giroud's biggest proponents in August. He has all the skills to be our number 2, but he is not the answer to leading our line unless we can line up a winger like Ronaldo who chips in w 20-25 goals as well, and makes Giroud a secondary goal scorer

He can not be our main goal scoring threat moving forward

Agree3 Disagree6

Also, Giroud versus United back line.

Other than a pk, explain to me how he scores unless a teammate essentially delivers it on a platter? How does he beat a Vidic

That's what we need our strikers to do if we want trophies.

Point blank, it is what it is. He is a class below what we need as our primary scoring threat

Agree2 Disagree4

You just shot youself in the foot. If us gooner is the only poster with a brain, you are implying that you are also brainless
Paul Belfast

Agree7 Disagree2

Sorry guys, I do appreciate and respect every poster on here, I'm just annoyed that some people fail to see that Giroud is simply not good enough.

CheetahChaz97

Agree4 Disagree11

Giroud is doing the job his fee demands,

Now if we want a world class striker then we need to pay 20 million plus.

Fact, giroud has come in and did a job scored goals and made many assists, he will be seen in a much better light if he played along someone to feed off him, as he plays pretty much up top alone he becomes isolated.

He is not world class and nor was the fee wenger paid, however it is very unfair to slate him as a lot have on here.

He has had a good 1st season.

What do you fellow gooners think of Alan Smith. He had a poor 1st season. Giroud to me is a lot like him but I feel will be a hell of a lot better. I think a front two would suit him better. A toshack, keagan type set up.

Spurs fan I peace here. I have even harping on this year that we have all bern as bad as each other. Up to now we have been the best of a bad lot.
Injuries is not an excuse for us as we failed to beat Fulham stoke Wigan Norwich and WBA at home.
We have been very good away, all but hanging on a lot of the time. Us, you and the chavs have been very inconsistent all season. You, as usual, are finding your form now. We had our surge mid season when we won 10 out of 12. It's just a surprise that we are still around you, the chavs and man city. A lot is still to play for but I will say I think 3rd maybe 2nd is yours and the rest is all to play for. I hope the chavs fail to get top 4 but, if that happened, roman would throw another £200million at it for next season.
Good luck for the rest of the season (ish) lol

COYS

Agree11 Disagree0

I think that a fair result would Arsenal to be second or third, Spurs to get fourth with Chelsea missing out in fifth. That would atone for last years CL qualification by default. Just my opinion.

Agree4 Disagree3

Not fussed who gets in champions league as long as we do tbh

Agree10 Disagree0

As long as we finish ahead of spurs i'm happy, but I think everyone would rather have Chelsea in the top 4 rather than spurs as there is a chance bale will leave for champions league football if he's not getting it at spurs.

I don't care if giroud scores or not. Would u rather one player score 20 goals or 5-6 players scoring them goals between them.
When your 20+ goals striker gets injured. your screwed.
Besides. We've scored more goals so far then we did same stage last season.

Believable13 Unbelievable3

Or you can always want better. Why not a 20+ goals a season forward AND 5-6 other frequent scorers?

We had that with Henry, Bergkamp, Freddie, Pires et al.

So narrow-minded to think we can only have one and not the other.

1. We win our match at hand and we are 4th

2. Effort and work rate don't make you an Arsenal caliber player, sorry Giroud. Poldi should be playing, as simple as that

3. Now you will see the best of Kos and Verm, hopefully Verm is finally ready to show his real form

Believable6 Unbelievable9

We play Norwich and Everton before spurs and Chelsea play again.
Win them both and we will be 3rd.
Mark

Agree9 Disagree1

In all fairness to Giroud if he misses a chance he doesn't go into hiding.

Bergkamps apprentice 1

Agree13 Disagree0

I think everyone should lay off Giroud. For his first season in English football the man has done great, scored goals, set up goals been good defensively from set pieces especially when we have not had much height in the midfield.

Giroud does the job Arsene asks him to do. In agreement with some previous posts, when he gets a bit more composure the goals tally will start to shoot up.

Agree9 Disagree0

Actually Mark, if united do us a favour tomorrow and beat city. If we do beat norwich and everton, we would be sitting in 2nd before city, spurs & chelsea play

Its posible! Believe & get behhind the team! Imagine a 2nd place finish this season!
Neelg3

Agree6 Disagree0

Giroud is a skilled ball winner and holds play up well.

His link play with Cazola was really impressive and he should have gotten the assist had Ramsey not blundered that sitter.

Giroud contributes a lot. He deserves a rest I think, but I have high expectations for him.

Agree4 Disagree0

If Arsenal get 2nd I will eat my shorts

Bergkamp5353

Agree5 Disagree0

I think second is very doable.

We can go into the summer with some swagger

Agree5 Disagree0

Second is not possible. I just don't see us being that consistent.

City will finish the season on around 80 points.

Chelsea should accrue around 72 points, from their remaining games.

Spurs to finish on about 70 points,

Arsenal to finish on about 71 points.

I have to say that I have given chelsea the benefit of their squad being able to win or draw and not lose any games. so basically I expect it to be a tie for the 4th spot with good being the decider.

Why are you guys slating our players? Especially Giroud. He has scored 17 (or 16?) goals this season, which in my opinion is a pretty good first season for a striker that played in France last year.

As for TV5, he has just lost form, all good players do at one point. Has everyone forgotten how good he has been for us? He earned the captain's armband for a reason.

So I ask you, could you all not just get behind the team, instead of criticising every little thing.

Believable19 Unbelievable0

Good post Ted- it was only a short time ago that Koscielny couldn't do a thing right and was getting slated- he's now back to his best. TV5 is a very special player.

exiled clock ender

Agree12 Disagree0

Grow up Ted - when you pay the ticket prices we are asked to - then you are entitled to express dissatifaction without being accused of disloyalty. We all want the best for Arsenal - however, some are willing to accept much less.

Agree7 Disagree9

Did I accuse anyone of disloyalty?

Yes, I do want the best for Arsenal, but I don't see what Giroud has done to offend you. As far as I'm concerned he's done nothing wrong. He plays his heart out for the team, scores goals and creates goals. What more do you want from him?

And why all the sudden hatred for him anyway? Is it because he didn't have such a good game yesterday? He has been important for us this season and I think some people have to remember that.

He isn't the best striker in the world, and we all know that, but he is an Arsenal player and he, like every Arsenal player, deserves respect and backing from the fans.

I don't care whether Giroud gives 100% every match, I could give a 100% in an arsenal shirt but that doesn't mean that i'm a good player. The message i'm trying to get across is although Giroud gives his all for the badge, that doesn't mean that he's good enough for the job. If you disagree you either don't watch matches or you're deluded. People, a few of you are saying he's had a decent goal return, but have you actually gone and done some research of when he's scored and who against. Ok, fair enough he saved our bacon against Fulham, but apart from that he's scored against teams that we've more or less beaten, a la Newcastle and Reading. I'm talking about the chelseas, the man utds and the man citys of this world, these are the teams that he has to prove himself against. can't believe he came out and said he's had a better first season than van persie, although this is statistically correct, I don't think he's had a look at his age compared to van persie at his first season. don't get me wrong I hate van persie but he had the prowess to score against man utd, chelsea etc. something that Giroud does not possess.

CheetahChaz97 {Ed027's Note - 16 goals and 13 Assists in his 1st season so far, not bad, not bad at all

Believable9 Unbelievable15

This is utter tripe. Giroud has had a very good season. Him not scoring against big clubs is a poor argument. Incorrect also. Bayern Munich anyone?

Agree15 Disagree3

Edo27,, was giroud not bought as a 2nd striker. did he not say that in an interview.
i am pretty sure we were looking at other editions last summer when we sold rvp.
i am pretty sure I read some where there was a chance rvp was staying and when the club decided to sell we had a target that did not pay off.

i know there is all ways loads of bs around including my self but you can't tell me wenger did not at least try to sign a quality forward.

i can understand the gamble with alex song situation we do have a load of midfielders to cover him even though I am not happy that he gambled.

i believe wenger plan is off load players 1st b4 he buys.

i do not believe a transfer kitty is the issue.

when you look at our wage bill how much money is removed from it this summer.

if we get cl next year it will have worked

when you think about how good a wenger team will be with that step in player quality its quite exciting.

i do not believe wenger will walk away when finally there will be money to spent.

i think I could be wrong about ASENE WENGER.

he pushed for stadium there had to be a plan.

the stadium had to have the priority.

time will tell

malaga gooner {Ed027's Note - RVP would of stayed in the end, but Wenger and the board are stubborn. Jovetic is being looked at for a reason, so yeah Giroud will proabably be our back up striker, he would be perfect for that.

Agree5 Disagree2

07 Apr 2013 16:51:18
I get where you're coming from to a degree because some things he does almost make him look amateurish, that constant jumping for a header and missing the ball for one.

I do like the guy and he is an upgrade on our other two loaned out legends. He's scoring for one and his stats are good.

I posted earlier about squad players and he in his first year is a great squad player, I'm hoping he'll really find his feet next season but at the same time that we buy a clinical finisher to go with him.

Stoner

Agree4 Disagree1

He's also scored against bayern, liverpool, spurs and schalke forgot to mention that though didn't ya! 16 goals and 13 assists but he's crap you don't make any sense! We do probably need another striker but its his first season and he's that productive I really don't get what your moaning about!

SM1996

Agree15 Disagree0

One game vs bayern, remember the miss vs Chelsea, Liverpool, Sunderland, Schalke, the list goes on. Top post.

LegoBlock {Ed027's Note - Ok so how about RVP he misses countless sitters

Agree4 Disagree9

Yes the sitter he missed against Ac Milan 2nd leg last season that would had made it 4-0

Agree2 Disagree0

I don't understand the first season argument that well.

1. Its ok if we buy a striker who is young 21-22.
2. Or if we buy a striker in Jan.
3. Or pretty late in the transfer period.

Giroud was bought very early he attended all of pre-season training aswell with us I suppose. Ok I understand the defenders in EPL are more pacy than back in france but its not like he is going to develop more pace next season. Nor is he a skillful player who dribbles etc. And his link-up play is already very good so I don't understand how he is going to improve so much next year. One quality that he misses is how to miss the marker which RVP used to do well always had 2 runs in mind one for the marker and one for himself.

On the other hand other teams now know Giroud better so they know how to defend against him. And with less Pace/Individual brilliance thing can actually get even harder for him next year.

Agree1 Disagree3

Reference a few of our current 1st team players being questioned.

All season long there has been discussion on the amount of players who we need to move on, no need for names we all know them.

It's a squad thing and once we extracate the unwanted and fill those spaces with quality (I do have my fingers crossed)
then some of the current team will form very good squad players.

I accept we can't buy 7or 8 new players but there are a few looking capable of moving up from u21's, Eisfeld, Gnabry and maybe Bellerin. Also recently read that Joel Campbell had as of June 2012 played some 88 percent of the competitive national games required thus above the 75 percent required to get his permit.

So if we can add the 3 or hopefully 4 quality players, our squad will look like one that all the players can contribute and we won't be sh*****g it when some we currently have walk onto the pitch or we just don't see week in week out.

More importantly of course a team that can challenge for real.

Here's hoping and come on the toffees!

Hello fellow Gooners.

Didn't post for some time now. Does anyone of you know if there is some kind of rift between Wenger and Podolski?

I wonder why he is a non-starter the last couple of matches. He is one of our best players this season and barely gets playing time. I read something about an injury he might have but that's just a rumour making it's way through the internet. Maybe one of the Eds does have any info about it.

I cannot really imagine that there is a major injury forcing him out of games so often. He is always involved in international games.

Have a nice day!

Malaga I agree with you on giroud he has done brilliant in his first season re goals and assist's and I think he will come good I have said this many times on here.

But yesterday when we went down to ten men I thought he didn't do enough to help out his Midfield he walked back most times in the dying mins foster drifted past him with the ball like he wasn't there. When he had that shot in the end realistically he should not be shooting from there at that stage of the game when we were a man down why not bring into the corner and waste some time and give the midfield and defence a chance to push out. We were under unreal pressure and he just chose to basically give the ball back to them with a shot he should not have taken. I like giroud but you have to understand some fans frustration yesterday I feel when we went down to ten he did not step up.

Dave it was not his better game I agree.

when your down to 10 men I all ways believe your better of having speed up front.

he does not have speed we know that he's a target man and needs players playing of him.

no 1 mentioned how many times we got the ball wide and we could not get it past the 1st defender.

for me he had no service yesterday.

he has 16 goals this season if he gets 4-5 more goals he's over the 20 mark,, not bad for a 1st season.

i like a moan as much as the next person as you all know that BUT your picking on the wrong player.

But that's it Malaga I love giroud and think he has a brilliant future at our club chances that man creates are unreal look at Ramsey yesterday lovely back heel And the man can score.

It wasn't his chances or his general gameplay from yesterday I had a problem with but his effort when we went down to ten men. Now I could have strangled our back four the amount of time they pumped it up to him and he had no one to knock it down to as we were a man short I'm not blaming him for that but he just seemed to stroll around the place not helping anyone with any real conviction.

Something that the commentators said on setanta and I agreed with when he had his toe stood on the ref did not stop play when he was down and they kept on playing was his toe that bad that he could not get up and try win the ball back all of a sudden we're down to nine men over a sore toe. Now I'm not saying it wasn't that bad I don't know but a Vieira or Henry or Adams would have got up chased the ball and got treatment later.

Jesus I'm reading back now over my post it looks like I hate giroud I don't I just feel he deserves some criticism for his effort yesterday.

Oh by the way love reading the posts Malaga.

Hi dave,

wanted to watch the 2nd half again b4 I commented any further.

he got a couple of bad tackles especially when a wba trod on his foot.

he did not have a good 2nd half but if ramsey scores we would be all going on about giroud and what a great goal and would be 3-0 up at half time.

ifs and buts I suppose.

Obviously vermaelen is going to start the next game with mert out suspended. Who's going to captain the side, mikel or verm?

Tv5 he is the captain, mikel only has the band when tv5 is out.

I can't believe I ever supported Giroud or thought he would come good.

It would take a pair of something between the legs in order for that to happen.

The occasional one touch doesn't make up for one or two good touches. Olivier you should be playing for Norwich, except Holt would start over you

Unreal, watched the match again, what a joke Olivier. Foster is running looking to play a ball in and he is jogging. jogging with 1 min left. What, is he saving energy?

If you watched how much running he did all match, especially towards the end, he was destroyed, and he sustained a leg injury during game. Give the guy a break.

I personally think we can do better, however in his defence he did take a nasty knock yesterday and may have been feeling it towards the end, or it may have been that he could have been instructed to stay up top for the chance of a late break as they were throwing players forward.

If Foster had lost the ball he would have been clean through.

As I say though he is not a starter for me.

Is that the same Kuyt who scored countless important goals for Liverpool and is loved by Liverpool fans?

Giroud is a top class player. At times his link up play is sensational. He snatches at chances ATM but that's not helped by fans constantly getting on his back. I've never seen him give less than 100% which also goes a long way. His season reminds me a lot of Drogba's first in England. If he gets close to that level ill be happy.

Believable17 Unbelievable1

I love him to bits!

Giroud is a great squad player who though not world class gives it everything and doesn't hide when things are going wrong. Misses a few, scores a few, that can be said for all good strikers. He clearly loves playing for us and is obviously well liked by the majority of us supporters, espically by our fantastic away support.
Thanks for the site Ed

The good - 3 points, no injuries, Rosicky finds some form.
The bad - defence all over the place; a better team would have taken us.
