Good results for man city and pool in europe, wether they go through or not they have at least made sure the return leg is a contest and not a dead rubber.

Sy4 using your very nice table further down. We are supposed to be a big club, well if we are allowing the likes of villa Sunderland stoke and west ham to spend more money than us we are never going to win the league. We obviously are putting enough effort into spending. Its not about money. And if it is we are being duped. because we aren't spending it and board members keep telling us we can buy anyone. It not about whose got the biggest most expensive car in the garage its about how you drive it.

Steve mate nothing is going to change between now and atleast the summer of 2017, I didn't vote conservative in the last election and if there was a vote on who should be our manager I wouldn't vote Arsene but sometimes you've just got to accept when your beat.
The majority are far from always right but they usually win the day regardless.

Absolutely Steve.
The standout players this season have cost peanuts.
Dele Alli £5m.
Payet £10m.
Mahrez £400,000.

Big money doesn't guarantee you a big player.
City paid £72m for Mangala and Otemendi, and they are pants.

Dags if we fail to win the league this season it has nothing to do with how much man u chelski man city snd whoever have spent, it is squarely to do with our failings to address problems as in other years but the money other teams have or haven't spent has absolutely nothing to do with us. We can only look at our mistakes again and poor judgement.

Id love us to get Hummel's and aubameyan. Great start that would be. Hummel's should of moved years ago.

There has been quite a few rumours surrounding Granit Xhaka and they have been compounded after Wengers smile in the press conference. However, I would say for the summer our priority should be CB and CF. In the CM, we have Coquelin, Ramsey, Cazorla, Elneny and Wilshere. Granit Xhaka may improve our squad but if so was there any need for Elneny in the summer except for squad congestion? In the CB role, we need a real leader somebody who can take the workload of Kos and not make me nervous like Mertersacker and Gabriel. I'm no scout so I don't know any exact players but it is essential we should invest in a quality CB to challenge for the title next year. Onto the CF, we need a clinical finisher. Somebody to bury Özil's continous flow of chances. A player such as Dybala and Lacazette, would be a marquee signing. Also, Giroud seems to always perform better when under pressure and not the first choice.

Wilshere will give you 15 games per season at best.

Xhaka will play most of the season.

So apparently Xhaka (in desperate times) can cover for CB as well:
In defence we would have:
Kos
Gabriel
Mertz
Chambers
Monreal
Gibbs
Bellerin
Jenk.

I believe a forward will leave. Welbeck unlikely. Giroud or Walcott possible.

Now I see why Wenger was so keen on Draxler. what a player.

That said, we have quite a few options for wide players now:
Sanchez
Welbeck
Iwobi
Walcott
Oxlaide
Wilshere (occasionally)
Joel Campbell

So instead the big quiestion for me is if we can get a striker. I think it's time for Giroud to move on.

Potentials:
Morata
Michy Batshauyi
Lukaku (too expensive)
Icardi (too expensive)
Lacazette (a wide player for me)

Others?

Billybob - Up front, we have options in Giroud, Welbeck and Walcott. Yes, we could sell one of them, but I doubt Wenger will do so.
The gaps in our squad for next season look to be:
1) A back up keeper, if Ospina departs.
2) A RB, assuming Debuchy departs and we don't retain Jenkinson when fit.
3) An additional DM - although this looks unlikely, as we have many midfield players to fit into the team, when all are fit.
I believe that Wemger is happy with the squad when they are fit. Ramsey looks to be back for the West Ham match and Wilshere is almost back, leaving only Cazorla and Ox to follow. When all players are fit, the squad is very full and strong, The bench was looking decent against Watford, with Ramsey back and three top players to follow, Wenger will have a problem, albeit a nice one, when all are available.

Paolo Dybala, he's better than all the above mentioned.

You mention a DM, and Wenger's smile during the pre-match conference today suggests in may be Xhaka.

He is a class player, but I don't see how we can fit all of these players:
1 Ramsey
2 Cazorla (albiet old now)
3 Wilshere
4 Elneny
5 Coquelin
6 Xhaka

That seems like too much competition for limited spaces. Presumably, the preferred starting choice in that case would be:
Ramsey/ Xhaka (with Coquelin playing when we need more defensive cover) .

Personally, while I don't dislike giroud, I think Ozil/ Ramsey thrive on pace around them to open up spaces.

Hence, I would upgrade Giroud for a more lethal option.

I agree re Draxler, two footed, can play left or right, looks a great player, but I wonder if he only wants to play in Germany (or of course Spain if one of the big 2 come in for him) as he was linked with a lot of clubs in the EPL and europe last year but just ended up moving from Shalke to Wolfsburg.

disagree lacazette is a forward for me . draxler would of only made us stronger. we can move a few on.

Based on nothing else but bias will Ramsey start ahead of Elneny. I think in the few games that he has played, he has impressed me far more than Rambo has the whole season.

Our summer transfer dealings will be interesting, as I see it, we currently only appear to have space in the squad for a replacement RB, assuming Debuchy goes and Jenkinson (when fit) isn't considered cover for Bellerin.
In midfield, even without Arteta, Flamini and Rosicky, we have a wealth of options and Wenger will have a hard task keeping players happy, when all in the squad are fit.
Forward-wise we have 3 options.
Young players will come into the squad next season: Iwobi (already there) , Reine-Adelaide and Zelalem. That's without any others that may emerge. I make it 22 players in the squad plus the youngsters, even allowing for the three 'pensioners' departing. I can't recall Wenger having a full 25 'over-age' players ever and he will have a real selection problem if all are fit. Perhaps, the likes of Ospina, Campbell, Ox or Walcott may move on?
