If Gareth Bale was to return to the premier league I think he would return to the most attractive footballing challenge available, not 100% the best financially attractive.
Obviously wages and transfer fee would rule out most premier league teams including Spurs with having to fund their new stadium to be paid for.
My personal view is he wouldn't be excited by City or Chelsea's favourite tags but would be more excited by the challenge of helping Utd Arsenal or Liverpool great again.
United are front runners if he returns but I think we should get in there and sell ourselves all we can if he does become available.
Bale has it in him to make City Chelsea Utd Liverpool Spurs Arsenal and Everton all champions, I really think he's that good.

injuries are a worry if he returns its too utd.

08 Aug 2017 06:44:40
Don't know why but Bale doesn't do it for me, I really don't think he's been anything like the player he was as Spurs. Maybe stifled by the bronzed cod, sorry god.

Only played 17 times last season and is even an injury doubt for United's game against Madrid tonight.

Not sure if he'd really fancy United though, the new upper class Stoke City. Mourinho is going to try and kick his way to the title with all the big lumps he's purchased.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 09:10:41
You sound worried Stoner, I thought Spurs were your big rivals but you do have a ongoing obsession with United. Lukaku may be a big lump but he'll score a lot of goals. Pogba may be big but he's hardly a lump, Miki is anything but a lump. We've bought sensibly (so far) this summer addressing weak areas, you guys should try and do the same.

Not sure why Ox is playing left wing back but I really thing Ox needs to replace Bellerin and Kola needs to play on the left.

Think that gives us drive, work rate and strength to protect back 3 as well as get forward to deliver a decent cross. Ox cannot play left and Bellerin cannot cross the ball.

That leaves centre midfield as the problem area and the front 3

Front 3 = Sanchez Lacazette and Ozil.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Aug 2017 21:58:33
I like the ox. But for me bellerin is a lot better to have there's a reason Barcelona want him.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 22:14:19
I think that's why he wants to leave, left side isn't his position, it's him or bellarin for wing back on the right, while I don't rate him that high bellarin may start ahead of him. So he knows he ain't playing in the middle and he may think his best option is leave. I have a funny feeling he may go but out of the two, he's the better wing back.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 22:31:48
Belerin is a very good attacking right back and Ox is a very decent CMF player with the potenial to be more than that, Ox is ok in the wing and can put in a shift if required to but he isn't a defender and ultimately full backs are defenders.
Gibbs is a converted winger who never quite got to terms with the defensive side of the game we don't need to make another one of Ox.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 23:24:33
Gunner ox has more ability in his little finger than the Gibbs and actually came as a winger. I think he is a better more committed wing back than bellarin, who I predict will find it a bit tough this season because he isn't strong enough, physically.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 23:30:14
Ox is injured half of the season.

Bellerin for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 23:35:04
Yeah it's 50/ 50 I think weather he will go or stay. I think Wenger wants to keep him but knows he can't grant his wish to play regular in the CM position he graves. With the World cup squad places up for grabs this year he may feel it is better to stay this season in a set up and with teams mates he knows, and might be prepare to play in that RWB, providing assurances from Wenger that he will get game time. There is no nailed on guarantee he will get more game time at another top club. Maybe a guess of the better the devil you know.

Well done steve you were right ๐Ÿ™„ It's hardly the point and completely pathetic mate. Football is about blind faith and absolute devotion or at least it is to a true fan.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - hardly a 'true fan'. True fans with blind faith allowed clubs like Leeds United and Portsmouth to be destroyed. Questioning things is what intelligent people do, idiots follow blindly.}

08 Aug 2017 10:35:49
Agree ed on that. Some people don't like opinions if there is a grain of truth in them and not total football fantasy.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know if you are right or wrong ste, but you are entitled to have your opinion and share it, just as much as the next man. People these days seem to only want to read what backs up their already held beliefs, like they can on instatwitfacegrambook. That is why clickbait sites do so well, because people want to believe what they write.}

08 Aug 2017 11:03:08
while I understand your points of view and most Arsenal supporters could see we were finished at the what seems like the usual time in many of the past seasons February, but wenger has to prove himself this time around, he seems to be up for giving it a proper go, so let's just get behind the boy's nothing is decided yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2017 18:18:28
There is a point where the same record gets played and people don't want to hear it. I have no problem with steves opinins and agree with some but wish he would just jazz it up once in a while instead of hitting the same nail. And it's funny when it comes to opinions and sensorship when replys don't get posted . But hey ho.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - your reply was a personal attack on another poster, you were lucky not to just get blocked. If you disagree with someone's opinions say so, not make nasty little digs at them.}

08 Aug 2017 18:41:01
Sorry ed can't remember exactly what I said but didn't think it was bad it was just my opinion on another posters opinions that's all. Sorry if I have offended anyone. But I think there are a lot of arm chair critics out there and in my opinion I support arsenal. Moan and pick fault when it goes wrong and try and look at the positives in the time between and celebrate when your winning. That's why I don't understand someone that always looks for the negitives or has to comment about the goal you let in when you win 3-1 rather than the three goals you scored. It's Debbie downer stuff and I can't relate to it at all that's what makes me think that some people are fans of other clubs on a wind up . Just my opinion ed.

Have you guys seen the 'experts' analysis and predictions for the season ahead? Nobody rates us as top 4 material let alone title challengers. What do the fans, realistically, expect this season - current squad considered?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Aug 2017 16:43:32
You could argue spurs and Liverpool over achieved and could easily name 15 points that we dropped and were out of character. We are easily in the mix for top 4 but still probably well short of the tittle.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 16:44:31
We do better when we are under no pressure so I think it's good that no one is expecting anything from us.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 16:48:11
Haven't seen it yet but I'm not surprised by what you say, last in the BBC pundits predictions none had us down as top 3 while only a handful thought we'd do our usual 4th place simply because we always did.
Can't see the top 4 not being Chelsea Utd City Spurs in one order or another but if one of them do slip up I think we will be snapping at thier heels with Liverpool and Everton.
My prediction is 5th based on I don't see how the side is much if any stronger and the mentality question mark that's been there for years won't have suddenly resolved it's self.
The mentality running through the club would still be a huge hurdle who ever we signed, something just isn't right off the field somewhere for things to always end so far away from the champions each season.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 16:57:18
Top 3 an absolute certainty.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 17:30:58
battle for 4th but it really should be time to challenge but as it stands yet again expections are low. just how the board like it.

Agree1 Disagree2

07 Aug 2017 18:52:10
I think we will struggle for top four again. Spursday football and Sunday league is not going to help. We are not watertight and we have a spongy midfield. No change on the managerial front means just that.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 20:36:42
Bookies seem to think it's between City Chelsea Utd for the title and Spurs favorites for 4th with us and Liverpool just behind them.
It's tough to call the winner as no one knows how Chelsea players will respond this time round after thier awful title defence two seasons back, City under Pep I'm not sure about his premier league capabilities so my guess is United under Mourinho will pip City to the title simply because Jose always finds a way to win a title, he's never failed yet in his last 5 jobs and it's difficult to believe his record will end with united.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 21:01:15
Top 4 I reckon (4th Most likely) at present, although can obvs. change with the transfer window still open.

Spurs will struggle big time at Wembley, they are essentially playing all their games away this season, teams will love playing there and any home atmos. will be lost. They have a pretty poor record there. Added to that no new signings and having to deal with more games in the Champs league will strech their smaller squad. They will drop out of to 4 I reckon.

Liverpool have a dangerous attack with lost of speed and are always good on the counter but I donโ€™t think their defence is good enough to mount a serious long term title challenge and losing Coutinho would be massive blow.

I think Arsenal as it stands are ahead of Spurs and Liverpool so yeah 4th most likely I reckon. I see Man City and Utd fighting for the Title. Chelsea donโ€™t look on edge at the moment and Conte is not happy man. Matic was a big loss, but 3rd for them I think.

Yes if we keep Shanchez and Ox which looks more and more likely then yeah 4th for us. I think think Wenger will rotate a lot in the Europa league games especially early on and use it to bring fringe players like Nelson into the frame, until the later stages. Wenger is definitely focused on the league more this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 22:33:25
if liverpool ger van dijk its a huge step forward but let's see how window ends.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 23:28:59
If chelski or citeh get him it would be huge.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 11:53:33
If we keep Sanchez and add Lemar i would be very excited about our attacking prospects. They plus ร–zil, Giroud, Lacazette and Iwobi would provide a balanced mixture of different qualities. Welbeck and Walcott can go as far as i'm concerned.

My stance on Oxlade-Chamberlain has changed. I'm not convinced by Bellerin so Ox would be my first choice right wingback for the season. He can either embrace this position as his own or leave next season to play as a central midfielder but this is the position he is the most useful in.

Would also like to see Chambers, Gabriel, Wilshere and Elneny leave in order to free up space for a central defender and a central midfielder. Would also like to see Gibbs, Debuchy, Jenkinson and Campbell leave since they're already useless and wouldn't need replacing.

I'm not expecting all this to happen though and realize it could be difficult to move all those players on.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

07 Aug 2017 14:08:14
I just don't get all the negativity towards Elneny. People rightly talking about Kolasinac being a bargain, but Elneny is also bargain of the century; cost what ยฃ5m, and barely puts a foot wrong wherever he is asked to play. His passing is top notch and he tends to sit in the DM position more than the other CM's. Now if we are going to sell a CM to enable us to sign a new DM I would personally rather see Coquelin and Wilshire moved on. IMO Elneny has showed he is a more than capable squad member, and will do a job whenever called upon. Every squad needs players who won't throw their toys out the pram and disrupt the squad if they don't get picked regularly, but who when finally called upon always give 100%. Elneny is exactly that player. The problem has never been Elneny; its we just that we need a guaranteed starting DM who Elneny will back up.

Agree4 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 15:20:45
Next to Caz Le Coq looks every Inch the DM we have desperately needed for years but without Caz Le Coq struggles, so isn't the answer to replace Caz with a quality CMF player.
Any combination of Le Coq Elney Xhaka doesn't work and Ramsey only works in the Mesut role which he can't get on a regular basis.
Trying to forge partnerships that don't work never goes well no matter how much you like he individuals, Lampard and Gerrard is a great example of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 16:17:12
Gunner none of our midfield fill other teams with dread. It will be a major problem, they expose our dodgy defence and will again next season.

Agree0 Disagree2

07 Aug 2017 16:39:24
Fair point EppingGooner, i simply prefer Coquelin over Elneny but both are squads players at best and we don't need both of them.

The way i see it Xhaka is the replacement for Cazorla as a deep-lying playmaker. He however is more static and and needs a box-to-box midfielder alongside him rather than a sitting defensive midfielder.

And Ramsey happens to be that kind of a box-to-box midfielder who can compliment Xhaka. The problem they had was that this pairing didn't provide enough cover for the back four, which is why we now play three central defenders. But Ramsey's best period was when he played in the central midfield role alongside Arteta who in my opinion is very similar to Xhaka.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 06:42:11
Optimistic for the forthcoming season after yesterday's performance, particularly as we played without Sanchez, Ozil, Ramsey, Koscielny, Gabriel and Koscielny.
Very impressed with new signings Kolasinac and Lacazette.
We now need to trim the squad, by selling/ releasing or loaning: Debuchy, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Campbell, Lucas, Reine-Adelaide and Akpom. Wilshere is a tricky one, as I would love to see him stay and succeed, but I think we have seen his best days early on in his career and I am not at all sure he can recapture that form again.
Lemar is clearly an option if Sanchez or Ox depart, so I don't expect any further signings unless either of these two depart.
I hope we keep the three contract rebels and don't sell Welback or Giroud. We need a strong strong in order to compete in all competitions. Well done to Wenger and the team n winning the Community Shield, always a positive start to the season and a trophy in the cabinet.

Xhaka had 98 passes at 100% efficiency with 1 assist. He is going to be a gem this season i reckon. He can tackle and pick a pass, something our midfield has sorely needed. Took him a while to find his feet but it will be worth it.

he will turn out I fine signing I feel. but needs a world class partner but elneny did well I thought.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 07:22:35
The reason xhaka was average at the start of last season is he was playing in the wrong position. He is not a defensive midfielder (hence the yellow and red cards) he is a deep lying playmaker. A quality one at that. It is no coincidence that since we went 3 at the back he has played very well and he has improved his discipline. Its because this formation allows him to play to his strengths. Unfortunately as a defensive mid in a 4 3 2 1 it exposes his weaknesses.

Quality player, plays like a quarter back spreading play and rarely wasting a pass. Lovely touch and the weight of his passing is superb.

Xhaka is not a good tackler at all and he isn't the answer. What do people see in him or want to see in him. He's doesn't dominate anything except sideways passes. I think he will struggle again when we meet teams of quality, he is a passenger in top games. Sorry don't see it.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed025's Note - nor me steve..

07 Aug 2017 17:06:45
What apart from the chip to welbeck a long range shot which was just saved by courtois another long range pass to lacazette I think oh and the assist for the goal. Still at least he dominated the side ways pass. Also Chelsea are champions exactly which decent teams are we going to play? Just because we didn't sign Kante who wanted to go elsewhere the down on Xhaka is ridiculous. He ain't Stepanovs! With some of the abuse he gets did I miss his transfer to the Spuds ๐Ÿฅ”? And before anyone says it's just one game he was improving the last ten games of the season . COYG.

Can't help but agree Steve Xhaka is in the Charlie Nicholas situation where fans want him to be good enough so much they ignore his poor performance's and over hype his best ones.
My guess is we will still be debating his value much this time next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2017 18:57:30
Yesterday was a friendly and wasn't the league. We have won three pre season friendly cups and that means zip all. Xhaka is a show pony with a donkey kick. He will prove this season he isn't good enough.

Ed I don't know a neutral fan who rates him at all and that is more telling than your own fans who are desperate for him to be the player he isn't.

{Ed001's Note - I know I certainly do not rate him in the slightest. He is being carried by the rest of the team, it is only because he came up against someone even worse, in Fabregas, that he looked decent enough.}
