I know we are generally stuffed to the gunwales with Midfielders, but as M. Wenger says, we should only buy players who would improve the squad.
Kondogbia seems to be available and I'd love him in our squad.
Could sell Ramsey, Wilshere and (gulp, await avalanche of derision) Coquelin and still have Kondogbia, Xhaka, Elneny and Cazorla for the two "defensive" midfield positions.
Kondogbia was fantastic against us when he played for Monaco.

I'm not anti - Ramsey, it's just that we have too many other players that play best in the position he should fulfil.
Wilshere I am anti- The Emporers New Clothes.
Coquelin: has done pretty well, but is a walking yellow card and let's face it, not world class in his position.

Max - I agree that we should always be looking to improve the squad, but I would stick with Coquelin. Kondogbia did look good and I would have signed him in a shot, but I like the options we currently have and presumably things haven't worked out in Italy as they are prepared to sell him. I like Ramsey, but he doesn't seem to fit into our system. I think it is time to sell Wilshere and I would sign a quality LB, perhaps Ghoulam from Napoli. I would keep Gibbs as he is English so it helps the home grown contingent.
By next season we need to sell/ release; Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Monreal, Campbell, Chambers, Szczesny and Sanogo.

I agree RG, except I'd keep chambers. Him, holding and bielik as our future CB could be great, plus bielik can fill as emergency DM and chambers emergency RB.

Fair comments both RG and JimGoon.
All I'd say about "failures" in Italy is:
Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry. Not suggesting Kondogbia is anywhere near those two Gods, but.

Must keep Holding, Chambers and Bielik.

I'd like to keep Campbell and would like Ricardo rodreguez at LB.

Stoke at home and west brom at home for December, these games are a must win, and yes the opposition will setup to play to our weakness.

we also have everton away and man city away, not easy games and we need to go there with the same gusto we had in the champions league.

i guess now without any champions league till february, the players will be on a high from topping the group and we should try and ride the wave of luck and determination.

I found this funny from last nights game:

Lucas Perez has scored the same amount of goals in 47 minutes as Tottenham have scored in their entire Champions League campaign this season 😂.

Red Dog 81 - Love it! Where's Raver when you need him? Getting ready for Thursday's in the new year?

Questions for gooners;

1. Perez or Walcott on the right?
2. Gibbs or Monreal?
3. When fit, which 2 DM players?
4. Sanchez up top or left, with Giroud up top?
5. Cech or Ospina?

Right now. Based on form.
Perez
Gibbs
Coq and xhaka (wouldn't mind elneny in there for either though )
Striker depends on opposition
Cech.

Decisions, decisions:

1. Perez, it'll also ensure Walcott doesn't ease off
2. Gibbs
3. Cazorla and Coquelin as you said when fit.
4. Sanchez up top and again when fit Welbeck left.
5. Cech.

1. Perez or Walcott on the right?
Tough call. Based on opposition and form.
If all fit and playing well, and Sanchez up top, then Danny right and Perez left. Danny has always worked hard defending from the front. But right now I'd give the ox the nod over Theo as he's being direct and showing real desire and strength. Need to give Theo enough time to have an impact off the bench though and Theo and olly as double sub would be really strong.

2. Gibbs or Monreal?
Honestly don't know, but as Gibbs is playing well, been patient and might keep Monreal focussed that he's not a definite starter, maybe Gibbs.

3. When fit, which 2 DM players?
Coq as he's still the best DM.
Then alongside (as deep CM not DM) xhaka for traditional top 5/ 6 teams, Rambo for the others.
Cazorla off the bench for creativity.
Controversial, they may not be as good as caz, but xhaka/ ram are our future and should be good enough, so should get the nod.

4. Sanchez up top or left, with Giroud up top?
Depends on opposition, but generally
Plan a - Sanchez
Plan b - olly with Sanchez left

5. Cech or Ospina?
This season, as Aw is doing it.
next season, maybe the other way around if ospina is looking better than cech.

I prefer ospina, but happy with either.

Xhaka has to be 1 of the dm then coq for tough games and can for the games where teams will park the bus.

Sanchez has to be CF but would like to see Giroud up top with him in a 442 as a plan b.

I think ox needs a run LW if he can get some forms like he has shown lately he can be deadly and gives us important witdh.

Rw is tricky, walcott has been a revelation this season however with Perez playing there should give us more witdh also I think this is a position we could improve with a top class signing in to complete us.

Great result last night and big positive to get through in top place. 9 goals in the last two matches, both away from home. Xhaka was outstanding last night and it was great to see Perez score a hat trick. The summer signings have proved their worth; Mustafi has yet to on the losing side for us, Holding is looking better with each match he plays and Perez proved he has goals in him. Credit to Wemger who got the team selection spot on, able to give some players a rest, but still winning comfortably. We now have two tough matches within a few days of each other, wiith confidence high it would be great to win both. We have Bellerin coming back shortly and as we enter the new year Welbeck and Mertesacker will be added to the squad, I still believe we need quality cover at RB and a top notch LB. Although, I think this should done in the summer window, so as not to disrupt the team. Going into the New Year I would like to see Wenger, Ozil and Sanchez sign new deals, which would give us a boost.

The big benefit of winning the group is I guess having the 2nd leg at home. I'm genuinely not bothered who we get as we have beaten all the best teams in Europe in previous seasons and it's not called the Champions League because it's easy.

I thought Gibbs had a great game last night albeit they're not the strongest side, but with lack of to many minutes hopefully it's done his confidence the world of good.

Back to earth with a bang in the form of Stoke who are just starting to play well.

Red Dog 81 - Good post. I thought Gibbs had an excellent match and those that know me, know that I am not a fan of either of our LB's. The confidence throughout the team was evident last night. I will be at The Emirates on Saturday and would love to see us destroy Stoke.

I hope Arsene plays our strongest 11 Saturday RG but after the game personally takes you to the funfair and pays for you to have a go on the carousel so you get atleast some rotation from the day mate :-) Enjoy.

Gunner 62 - Great team selection last night, keeping almost all the main players in the team, with the exception of Mustafi. We have Stoke at home on Saturday, followed by a tricky trip to Everton on Tues. I agree that we should play our strongest side on Sat and possibly Tuesday as well, although we can tweak the team with a couple of changes. The interesting thing now is that there is strong competition in many positions; Gibbs or Monreal. Walcot or Perez. Iwobi or Ox. A choice of two from Coquelin, Elneny and Xhaka. Giroud or Sanchez up top. When Welbeck returns we will have yet another option. In effect with the exception of a core of undroppable players we have loads of options. The core is; Cech, Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Ozil and Sanchez. This is the type of system that SAF used so successfully for many successful seasons at United and why they could often fight on all fronts and won the treble back in the day.

To be fair to Arsene I would have gone much weaker than he did last night as I didn't see PSG dropping points but they did and Arsene got it spot on, I'd have still played Dags for the opening 90 seconds and then replaced him with Perez once he worn himself out:-) u.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Dec 2016 10:13:06
Yes Gunner62, I would have played a far weaker team, so all credit to Wenger. Presumably PSG put a weakened team out. Would Dags have lasted a whole 90 seconds?
