Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

Slightly off topic. and hopefully i'm not speaking too soon, but I am enjoying watching Utd struggle this season.
They've had their own way for far too long, finally they aren't getting decisions their way and if they keep this up they won't get champs league.
it would be interesting then to see what happens in the summer. RVP would be off I reckon, its obvious that fergie just bought him to help him win the league last season knowing he was going to retire.

Also. I honestly think with a couple of signings we can win this year!

COYG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would be hilarious to see them miss out on the top 4 and then Rvp to leave. Probably Rooney too! Can't see kagawa staying when he can get a champions league club easily too.

All the stick they have to us and now they can't take it back.

And what's even better is that Rvp could have had ozil, cazorla, Ramsey, Walcott and wilshere behind him. Now he has Valencia, young, cleverly, fellaini and giggs!

BRILLIANT! HAHHAHA

Just read on another site a gooner say he's quite embarrassed that we lost to united. I know how he feels.

Glen Johnson is always an accident waiting to happen. No thank you

Parisian friend is fairly convinced that Lavezzi will be moving on at some point. He thinks he'll go back to Italy but considering what we need, I'm just hoping I've put 2 and 2 together.

Any ideas ed?

Kalou, Berbatov, Defoe, Long? What has gotten into you all. Why bother buying a 2nd rate striker that will not improve our team?

Either we stick with what we have and allow Ox and Gbabry to play more and improve. Or if you buy a Striker buy someone who will actually improve the first team.

Off the top off my head there is very little talent available at this moment in time. Not at the right price anyway. Luuk De Jong maybe? Luis Muriel or Rodrigo could be cheapish? Personally think El Shaaraway in summer to play ST and LW/RW is the way to go. Exceptional talent.

Can we win the league with what we have now. Yes. We are top of the league and been through periods with Flamini, Walcott, Cazorla and Podolski all out and still churned out results. I think we will continue to pick up points based on the solidity of our back four. i'm not worried about us, i'm worried about the juggernaut that is Man City running away with the league. Chelsea and Liverpool aren't too impressive in my opinion.

Stop-gap striker that u gooner want Arsenal to sign:
a) Berba
b) Kalou
c) Defeo

Replacing Theo in this window will be really difficult and I think we should give Gnarby and the Ox their heads in Theo's absence.

They will show us between now and May how much we need to buy a big name for that position or hopefully how much we don't.

Signing a top striker will be near impossible so let's get a bit of short term cover up top and review our big spending needs at the end of the season rather than just by the best available at the moment and miss out on top class players come the summer.
Just my opinion

Just watched the youth cup game against Peterborough on arsenal player. I was impressed. Chuba Akpom looks promising and not too far away from being ready for the first team and scored a hatrick, Gedion Zelalem had a quiet game but looks very comfortable on the ball but a little light weight but Daniel Crowley is on another planet. In a 6-1 win, he scored two brilliant goals and got four assists. I don think he is too far away and could feature sometime this season if we have a good cup run

For me it's Diego Costa. The one realistic signing who can win us the league. He's up there with Aguero and Suarez, and he reminds me of Thierry.
My only fear would be if we bring in a striker of this style, we potentially lose the goals from midfield; Giroud (one of the most unappreciated players in the Prem) does so well holding the ball up, allowing our midfield to push on.
However, we need a plan B that could become our plan A next season: playing Ozil just behind Costa.
Wenger needs to convince him to join this project just as he did with Ozil, in a World Cup season he might not want to upset his game. Also, Costa might well want to stay in Madrid and, like Suarez, see if he can help get his current club some silverware.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes, if we want to buy a striker of this caliber, Costa is the most affordable considering the rest are all over 50m

And yes, he is that good

Anyone else think that arsenal should get draxler and convert him into a striker?
Similar to what wenger did with Henry and RVP. Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My first thought, he will be just like Robin

Will come in and play wed and as an AM and will eventually be a striker

Agree0 Disagree0

Professionals in the game who work with him have never played him as a striker as far as I know. This whole idea is getting ridiculous now, if he was a striker then that's where Schalke would be playing him.

Tell you what who else thinks Vermaelen should play in midfield?

Banter please Eds

Just being cheeky but another attacking winger option for some games is Gibbs with Monreal at left back and putting the main attack down the left, not the right.

Both Gibbs and Monreal have been getting behind defenders and crossing well.

Maybe these injuries will make Arsene change his team more game over game for different opponents - silver lining?

I don't post much, but a big shout out to DG, Goldboy and the rest who have really picked this banter site up this year. For us exiled Gooners it's good to see. And welcome back Lakerville.

Whatever happens from here on it's been the best season in long time.

PS Also a 62 vintage Gunner here if that's what the 62 in DG62 stands for.

YYC. That was very nice of you to say that mate. Thank you very much. Now I can show the wife that someone appreciates me! LOL 😊

I am sorry can we just have a little more faith in our team, I still see too many people not being optmistic here like DG and the rest.

Theo is injured and I feel we will miss him most in the CL games and espcially against Bayern, but in the PL I think Gnabry and the Ox can do the job between themselves on that wing. We need the other players to step up in terms of Carzola, Podloski, Ozil, Ramsey.

And I do not agree this is the same situation as Eduardo. When Eduardo got injured the players were too young, and the injury was caused because of an opposition player. Gallas was too emotional as captain to get the team running back, now we have the like Sagna, Rosicky, Mertasacker, Flamini, Arteta to pull the team through this bad patch.

And Liverpool ending up 4th is not going to happen, it is going to be united, Liverpool are just about Suarez he doesn't score liverpool happen to loose those games. United have better players and more experience to see them through.

I am still optmisitic on our chances because of city's and chelsea's away form, at which we are the best.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Is this the same Suarez who was banned for the first few games and we scored and won games just fine without him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ox will be returning from a long injury and will take time to refind his form, he is also not as prolific as Theo.

Gnabry looks great but only time will tell and that is too much pressure to rely on him to find our goals.

Wenger seems to hate Podolski.

Ozil is great but has never been a prolific goal scorer and he has games where he is non existant.

Ramsey has been great but the goals have dried up and when he a Wilshere play together it doesn't work.

We have been and will continue to play well but we NEED a world class striker to stay in and around the top. Giroud has lost form and he cannot create chances for himself.

We are so close to greatness but unless we spend big on 2 stars in January we will slip and be involved in the battle for 4th.

Just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

I still think we need 2 players minimum a wide player and a striker ox is not a winger and gnabry won't perform week in week out he's still young and learning if we're going to win the league we need reinforcements

Agree0 Disagree0

Aman021,

If we are going to sign a £40m+ striker in the summer why not bring him in now? Could help for a push to win trophies and will help next season.
Not many clubs will do business in the early summer (pre-world cup) and any good quality striker is going to be playing on the world stage, therefore having limited time to style in to the squad.
I think Wenger will be missing a trick by not getting that player in this month. Maybe inflated price but I'd say well worth it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree. Nothing is ever promised tomorrow today :)

Afternoon eds and readers. Does anyone know or think our transfer plans have changed with Walcott out for so long?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We defo need someone now if only on a loan ubntil end of season. I think wenger will try and get a loan striker in but who is available?. Ideally we need like for like in a sense we need a striker/forward with pace to replace Walcott while he is out.

A Bit leftfeild but what about Jermain Defoe as a loan from Spurs until season end.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im quite sure we are looking at some quality players with a possible move in the summer and even possibly some minor moves to keep us in the title hunt.

berbatov anyone?

Agree0 Disagree0

A lot of people down on Berbatov, but I think he'd be up for a 4 month title challenge. Watch him on the pitch, he's always demanding the ball and haranguing his team mates. He wants to play to perfection. But would he get back and defend from the front, like Ollie? We've built a lot of 1-0 victories on defending as unit.

07 Jan 2014 11:51:56
We have to be realistic in the replacement saga for poor old Theo.

I can't see AW going out and spending millions in this window as TW will return at some stage. There will also be more choice available in the summer.

In my humble opinion we need a player who has Premier league experience so we don't have to wait for him to settle and someone with a bit of pace.

I've been racking my brains as to who would fit this and be in the market for a move.

I'm ready to be shot down now but Shane Long fits the bill as a short term option.

Jordan Rhodes is a finisher but no PL experience so doubtful.

Berbatov is too old and lazy.

Would love to hear some of your suggestions, there could be a little gem that I have forgotten about.

Hernandez?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hernandez looked well out of his depth playing 90mins v. Swansea. He's like Solskjaer, a good idea with 10 to go but not a top 4 starter

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes we need soemone with pace to cover Walcott loss as his pace was a great asset up top. Thsi rules out Berbatov who I have never been fussed with anyway.

A cheeky loan for Jermain Defoe might do the trick short term. Not getting any action at Spurs and eager to prove a point and try and get in England squad.

Having watched the speed at times that we attacked the spurs from back to front through Rosicky, Gnabry, Cazorla and Walcott it's safe to say it was pretty awesome.

We created a lot of chances, not all taken I grant you, it was a different style to when we play with Giroud that's for sure.

So in his absence I'm hoping that the Ox can fill that void and come back with goals.

We still had Ramsey and Ozil in reserve for that game so we are not lacking in attacking dept, it's just the higher pace we played at with Walcott. I was actually thinking watching the spurs game that Bayern isn't such a daunting task and they are right to fear us.

We coped without Theo for a long period and we have to again if Gnabry and the Ox can do their thing with some added goals it's possible.

On the transfer front it's time Kroenke took a big step up to the plate and said Arsene tell me who you want, I'll make it happen.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't want to sound pessimistic, but we are not at the level bayern are, and we have to be realistic. sure in any given game we can take it to them, but over two legs? let's not get our hopes up and just support the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2014 14:07:28
I don't think that's pessimistic at all, I don't believe we are at their level but we have great ability which we tend to underestimate in this team and I genuinely believe it will be a lot closer over the two legs than I had hoped.

I'm of the opinion that pretty much everyone on this page has their feet firmly on the ground with what we might achieve this season.

I don't think anyone has hit the deluded button.

Liverpool fan here I come in peace. I enjoy the banter you bring to our page.
Big blow for you guys with Theo's injury he was in great form too. How do you see the top 4 at the end of the season. I would have to say

Man city
Chelsea
Arsenal
Liverpool

Liverpool v Arsenal FA cup final would be nice
obviously we would win that ;-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Irishred,

Thanks mate. I think you have called it pretty correct IMO.

See you in the cup final lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

At the beginning of the season I had it as
Chelsea
Man city
Arsenal
United
I now do see you getting fourth, the top two could easily be swapped, but I'll stick with Chelsea. Pray I'm wrong though.
Flybo

Agree0 Disagree0

I Don't know. I think we will win it or come second. Chelsea are getting the rub of the green regarding ref decisions but I do believe they are vulnerable away from home as is City. I'm going to go for an optimistic;

Arsenal
City
Chelsea
Liverpool

Obviously with us also winning the FA cup too :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see Liverpool getting top 4. There's a few clubs going for that 4th spot and you can't rely on Suarez all season. Sturridge got you through those first 5 games or so, I just can't see that luck continuing, especially given the poor back 5.
As for us, Gnabry and the Ox will fill in nicely for Theo, especially for Gnabry I think it's a blessing in disguise.
City will almost certainly win the league then it's down to whether Jose can get his team defending well enough to get them above us for 2nd place.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally disagree with you Paul, How was there LUCK involved. Poor back 5? Mignolet is having a great season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we must be talking about a different Mignolet, he's error prone and considering you've conceded only 2 goals less than Aston Villa, when Suarez stops scoring and confidence inevitably drops, you'll lose that 4th spot.
Unfortunately for Liverpool they don't have the attacking options to cope with the poor defense like Man City.
But chin up, as you and Spurs fans always say "next year is our year!"

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2014 15:30:28
At this moment in time I see us 2nd or 3rd, I can see the top four being City, Chelsea, Liverpool and us.

I could see liverpool 3rd or 4th, I don't see United in the top four but that is dependant on two things for me, RVP coming back fit and firing and an addition or two this month.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool fan here. can I just say, i'm not sure where you get this from Paul. Liverpool scorers in league this season
Suarez 20, sturridge 9, gerrard 3, sterling 3, coutinho 2, skrtel 2

Arsenal scorers in league this season
Ramsey 8, giroud 8, walcott 5, ozil 4, podolski 3, bendtner 2

We have the second best Goal difference behind City with the same goals conceded.

You have in total 13 scorers we have 11. Fairenough we probably have a goal or two less in our midfield but seeing as Walcott and Lord Bendtner are out for ages, should you not be worried about where your goals are going to come from? Suarez and Sturridge have consistently scored for fun for a whole calender year whereas Giroud and Ramsey and I mean no disrespect to anyone, somewhat on a breakthrough season. (They have both been beauts to watch on the many occasions I have this season I must say and that Ramsey goal against us still stings a little as I type this)

Sorry I went on for a bit there I get a little annoyed when people plaster uninformed statements with no back up.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2014 09:33:32
So we all want a signing - but what type of signing.

For me, while a player to cover for Giroud would be ideal, the biggest thing we lose now is PACE. Outside of Theo, there is not a lot of pace in our starting XI.

Rosicky, Ozil, Cazorla, Ramsey, Wilshere all have quick feet and great vision, but can not run at defenders or stretch the play.

Why is this important. Because pacey players force a team to defend deeper (as in less space to run in behind them) and a deeper defence means more room for our creative midfielders to operate.

Given this, rather than wanting Diego Costa or Martinez, I am trying to think of pacey players that can add something different. At the moment we only have Oxlaide (not really a wide player) and gnabry (who is still young).

The only name I have come up with so far. Cuadrado. No doubt he will be expensive, but this is effective Gervinho 2.0 (not sure that is a good thing!)

So for 20mln - would you want an unproven columbian player?

Is it that we only notice our own injury list or are our players really out a lot more often and for much longer periods than other teams?

Its easy to think its an us thing and that our training or what ever contributes to so many injuries so often but is it true?

If so we need to correct it yesterday if not sooner, any statto's out there with any figures one way or another?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree G62, but have no idea as to why, its a mystery mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

(Hi Anna!)

With Walcott out for the rest of the season, we really need to replace his 15-18 goals from midfield. I`m sure Podolski would weigh in with that many if he had a better all round game, but he won't start enough games imo. and that is assuming he isn't kept on the bench as a reserve striker. If we end up falling away and losing the title in the second half of the season, this injury and how AW deals with it will be analysed endlessly.

Gnarby is an excellent prospect and we have Chamberlain coming back, but its the lack of goals that I'm concerned about. I also think it puts too much strain on a thin squad, our bench has been very strong recently and given the amount of competitions we're involved in, we need depth more than ever.

Di Maria, Pedro, Draxler, Reus, all these players would capably replace Theos place in the team and also being us a dozen or so goals, maybe with the exception of Di Maria. But their employees know AFC are desperate to buy and the cost, even if they were willing to sell, would be way over the odds and I just don't see AW playing ball.

From being in a place where AW could pick and choose whether he brought in a striker this month, he needs to be very clever in what he does, this window could end up deciding our season fate.

Just what do we have to do to win the league? We get one back and lose another. I have to admit that in the past I was very critical of Theo but I have to eat my words as he has now shown just how good he is and he will be very sadly missed. Get well soon, Theo, no team can afford to lose players of your calibre. Surely this means AW MUST now buy a top, top striker and the cost should be irrelevant as we are in the best position for many years to succeed this year and the cost will easily be repaid if we lift the trophy. If we do, success breeds further success so please spend what is necessary AW and put us back at the top of British football.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jan 2014 06:43:20
Bearing in mind Walcott's season ending injury and Bendtner's injury & inevitable summer departure, I feel we must buy a top quality striker in the window. We have ample cover on the right in Walcott's position, with fast maturing Gnabry, almost fit Oxlade & Ozil all able to play in a wide right attacking role. Berbatov would be a good short term option. However, I would love to see us make a statement and try to sign Ballotelli or Diego Costa. The other signing I would make every effort to make would be Micah Richards, who would give excellent options at right back & centre back. If we can tie up Sagna, Rosicky, Cazorla & Wenger on new deals, we would go into the title run in with huge confidence and a superb squad.

Do you know what would impress me now? It would be to hear that Arsene had slipped in and secured Mohammed Salah to replace Theo at this moment in time. I've always rated Salah as a winger and a decent striker but mainly as a winger. Pipe dream I know but hey! at this point in the proceedings if it was me I would probably offer a chunk more than anyone else to nick him. Any thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Personally Salah will not cope in our league. At the very least he'll take time to settle in. Not good enough for Arsenal, we have a good set of 15 players, now we just need to sign players who will IMPROVE the first squad
