If Campbell doesn't leave, in the future do you think he could possibly fill in at left back? He can put a tackle in and does get back well so I would be interested to see how he would play there. Who knows, maybe he's the next Monreal.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think I could be the next Monreal, and I am 43, have knackered knees, and have not played for 10 years

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - is your real name jack wilshire?.. :)

No, my ankles are fine!

Have it on good authority he could be joining David Moyes at Real Sociedad.

Agree0 Disagree0

There should be an ellipsis after monreal

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - there should be a hit man after him imo NEG.. :)

I find it a bit weird that we slate wingers and strikers who do not track back in defence but take their chances when presented but praise those who work hard in defence and miss sitter after sitter when faced with the opposition goal.

Ed001 got a really ovely letter today from Alder Hay regarding the site charity of the year donations, brilliant choice there mate

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am really glad mate, they are a great hospital. It was thanks to them I met Angelina Jolie so I do owe them a debt of gratitude myself. I suppose I should thank them for being the only reason my little cousin is alive today, but as he is an Evertonian I am not sure they deserve gratitude for that!!!}

They've done you proud mate, very impressed

Mate I don't understand how we give to charity, I will contribute if someone can point out,
But please remember i'm a grafter not an office boy, so you need to explain it pretty clearly.
Im sure my spelling told most of you that

Go onto the Alder Hey website and it will guide you through how to donate.

Takes about 5 minutes.

Its so simple even Welsh people can do it lol.

(Only joking mate).

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Welsh mate just google Alder Hey and go on the main page you'll see donations and different ways to give.
Online is probably easiest or on the phone but a cheque is ok too mate.
Lovely people Welsh mate and wonderful charity the Eds chose as the site's charity of the year

Agree0 Disagree0

Do I tell them its of the arsenal banter page

Agree0 Disagree0

I did it online mate so didn't get the chance but if you do it on the phone you could mentioned the whole football rumours site as it is an across the pages effort from all clubs, but you could say your part of the best page and club on the site mate, she'll automatically know your a gooner from that :-)

Hi eds do you think looks more likely to sign for arsenal this jan Perrin or Reid thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to get in to "most likely" questions.}

07 Jan 2015 15:55:57
West Ham fan here, just letting you know Winston Reid isn't anywhere near good enough for a Champions League side, Don't know how he has kept Collins/Tomkins out the side to be honest

Hi Dave,

Most of my mates are Hammers (well, I am from Dagenham).

Some of them say he would be perfect for us, and some don't.

I think he would fit in nicely.
Sure, his distribution is not the best, but he is a big lump, is use to the pace of the Prem and does play on the left side ( perfect replacement for the injury prone Koscielny).

Granted, he's no Hummel's, but is a typical Wenger signing mate.

What about a straight swap, Reid for Sanogo? Lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks mate, while your here can you tell Jenks to get home immediately or he won't ever be allowed out on his own ever again

Agree0 Disagree0

Dave, thanks for the advice but he has played a big part in keeping you lot off the normal bottom 4 places and actually above us, so he can't be too bad

Agree0 Disagree0

Dave
Did Big Sam tell you to say that, lol
Dont worry about champions league we may not need him for that next year,
Do you know how when a player leaves, he is rubbish.
Dags do you mean cheep

Ive had a read through posts but could see anything recently,

whats the state of play with the arsenal ownership. Usmanov has been mooting a takeover for years now and generally, loitering in the background. Is there a longer term plan?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think that is exactly what he is doing, loitering in the background, until, maybe an opportunity arises he can purchase his required shares to fomally take over. But big stan isn't playing ball and doesn't want him anywhere near.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sooner stan goes the better. with usmanov in we can start buying bonys and not welbecks lol

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2015 23:47:09
He's said he'll buy up available shares but I don't think he's actually said he's going/trying to take it over.

I'd love to know what the story was with the asian/middle eastern consortium that was rumored a while ago.

Ed002 do you remember saying at one time that there would be major changes at arsenal in the next 18 months - about 18/20 months ago.

It was around the time of the consortium rumors. Did anything materlise in that regard or was that a reference to the puma/emirates renewal deals and increased revenue streams?

Thanks. Anyone else have a clue even?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It was the intended takeover last year by Usmanov. This was discussed a while back.}

You can't buy what isn't for sale. only a 5th place finish would push stan out right now. if stan sells I believe usmanov will buy the shares and we will look back at this baron spell with a lilttle lol

Agree0 Disagree0

You never know, if Stan needs to free up a bit of capital to help fund this new stadium he plans to build in LA he should know who to call. and it ain't Ghost busters.

Hey long time reader first time writer. Any info on the messi situation? ssn Spanish correspondent suggesting arsenal are dark horses for his signature?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No.}

What they meant to put was, his autograph.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dark horses? Ney I don't think so, that rumour is definately pony, you need to sort the wheat from the chaff as rumours go.

Sorry for the horse play.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hahah steve that right tickled me.

any transfer with Messi would be a long drawn out state i'd imagine whoever it was to due to the financial fair play rules.

I know super player transfers was discussed but I don't think they've made a solid set of guidelines for what should happen should someone like messi transfer.

in other words, I imagine a lot of golf course handshakes would have to go down first.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think the board play golf, so we are at another disadvantage there, as well.Oh well loic (reggie) perrin it is then.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unless Messi decides to pay for himself and play for free, it would never happen. Chelsea and City are the only possible english destinations for him, but considering barca can't buy players right now they're definitely not going to consider selling him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You are very wrong.}

Probably Ed, but that's my analysis and I'm sticking with it :P

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If you will search the site you will find an explanation that is correct.}

Would Chelski risk breaking FFP to sign him? A once in a career change to sign the greatest player in the world? Absolutely and in a heart beat. Abramovich could find the £200M and his wages from his spare change and if it comes to it any fine on top of that lot for the transgression. Only if the penalty were a massive points deduction or exclusion from European competition would they think twice.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2015 12:22:26
How likely is it that we buy a CB now and try and sign the likes of Reid/Schar for free in the summer?
In my opinion its one or the other. Should Wenger not sign anyone planning for the summer how would people feel?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jan 2015 11:35:11
Have refereeing standards really dropped that much or is it just that every decision is over analyzed?
I know there are some dreadful mistakes made each week but it's difficult to believe the standard is dropping below the days when they were part time hobbies

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jan 2015 12:48:02
IMHO they've dropped over the last 10 years. Admittedly the speed of the game has made it harder, but I think it's the instructions and the regulation of the referees that is mainly to blame. Too many know the rules but don't understand the nuances or realities of the game. It makes it hard for the fans and the players when you get inconsistent or overly officious refereeing; that's what there seems to be more of.

The newer, younger refs seem to be a bit better though, so maybe they are doing something right in ref training now. Watch Oliver have a clanger this week to disprove me, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would suggest fast tracking retiring players from the lower divisions, who would be fit and knowledgeable enough to referee. The salary of referees should be increased substantially, which encourage retiring ex-pros to consider the job.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would like to see a video ref like in rugby. ref doesn't spot something or makes a dodgy call, he's told to have another look and can make a better judgement. they can't get everything right in a high speed game and when a poor decision can cost a team millions

Agree0 Disagree0

I think ref's being able to ask for a second opinion from someone who's had the benefit of seeing it again on video has to be a good thing

MARTIN ODEGAARD, what a young talent. Looks like we missed out on him, Real Madrid seems the likely destination. I think this boy has a big future ahead of him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - This is nothing to do with Arsenal - he was never going to sign.}

07 Jan 2015 09:09:43
Having just had a look at our squad on the official site. It is clear that we need players in the following positions:
1) Assuming we use Chambers primarily as a centre back, we need one more centre back.
2) We need to replace both Arteta & Flamini. Arteta is one of the few current Arsenal players who has never played an international match. Whilst Flamini played 3 times for France 7 years ago. Neither of them are good enough for a team challenging for the PL or CL.

This window, I can only see Wenger signing a maximum of 2 first team players, a cb & a dm.

What concerns me is that we are looking at cut-price options, such as Reid & Perrin, when we should be making top quality signings to compete with the likes of Man City & Chelsea. I would like to see us try to sign Schneiderlin or/& Carvallho for the dm position, I also like Sissoko. At centre back Hummels & Subotic are my favourites. I like Nastasic as a younger option.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be fair Robbie Arteta's international chances were difficult to say the least even Cesc has been limited with Spain.
To get the players we need long term in order to challenge next season would be ideal this window in order to bed in for next season but will be difficult so we may well have to settle for players who can help put the breaks on our slide for now.
Relying on players getting and staying fit for the second half of the season would be madness IMO as why all of a sudden will whatever it is that causes us so many injuries just disappear and never be seen again.
I'd settle for stop gap CB and DM on loan or otherwise to get us through if that's all we could get this month apossed to doing nothing.
Spyder is not available until the summer apparently whether the right price can change that I don't know

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2015 10:34:19
Fabian Schar the 23yr old Swiss defender who plays for FC Basle would be another good shout, he's out of contract in June.

Not seen much of him but lots of good reports. Quick aggressive defender much like Koscielny.

Stop gaps are ok but if long term quality is available would be nice, but unexpected, if we went down that road.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would be happy with Reid and Perrin at CB, that would give us Kos and Reid as starters with two decent back up's plus Chambers if needed. I don't think there is any club in the world with 4 top class CB's, as they need to play every game and strike a partnership to be best in that position.

For me a powerful CM is where th big money should go, doesn't have to be a DM but a big strong CM who can play as well.

We have so many options up front with Theo and Ozil coming back that the departures of Podolski and Sanogo really don't concern me, can't wait to see a fully fit Theo up there with Sanchez.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we will see a CB and Dm of some description arrive and a strike wouldn't shock me either although I wouldn't personally bother with one.
It would be brilliant to get real quality in but I think we have to accept that's going to be tough (not impossible ) but tough all the same to do this month and see who ever arrives as a bonus and support them fully whether they cost 50 mil or 50p

Agree0 Disagree0

Schar is a must

Agree0 Disagree0

Schar? He's never been the same since the lion king, I really don't think that would help Derby

heard from good sources (myself) that we're only going to get a centerback this January and get the defensive midfielder--a top quality one--in the summer
