when I look at what players we have at the club I believe we are only 3 signings away from winning the title.

with a bit of luck on the injury front I do not believe we should fear any 1 next season.

we will be the dark horse.

very confident

i have never liked squad numbers.

it was another way of finding a way of taking more money out of the supporters pocket.

being in starting eleven should be an honour.

a gk should have a no1 top.

a rb should have the no2 top, and so on.

for me a player should look at being in starting 11 and when he has not got 1 of those numbers he should work harder.

bit banged does that make sense?

Football may specify a number with a position, however with modern day superstars they make their own.

thierry is one who comes to mind. he was our no 9. with bergkamp as 10.

but for him the number didn't matter. he has made the no 14 legendary with out club.

at the end its only a number, few make it standout like ronaldo, messi, but in modern football everyone wants to make their own mark.

aguero, dzeko, balotelli, and so on.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with Malaga on this shirt number on the day shows your position I mean number 52!

Higuain Higuain Higuain is Higuain the only player on the planet or something? Surely we must be looking at others. With supposedly £70 mill plus in the kitty you would think we were looking at other players. It's all I read about on here. If we do end up with Higuain some prople on here will have nothing else to talk about i'm sure. It's getting boring. Don't suppose this will get posted either

Higuain deal is off for the time being. (sadly) If any deal were to happen, it would happened by now surely! Common sense dictates this logic.

Realistically, Rooney is wanted by Arsenal but he will not be available for us as other clubs will outbid us (sadly)

However, the main striker who could and most likely join us will be Benteke from Aston Villa. He is young, premier league hardened and has pace and power. Wenger signing in the making. He is not our first choice but for approx. £15+ million is more likely for us!

After 8 years of not winning any silverware, we are finding it hard to draw top world class players! Wenger is trying this summer!

Keep the faith!

Inside Gooner

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Utter tosh!

The window has been open for a few days and suddenly you think Arsenal are panic buying?

Come on. Benteke?. as opposed to a true world class finisher in Higuain?

Higuain is coming! Just be patient!
Could see Alonso or Fab coming too. Would love to see how good Fab has got since his little vacation to Barca!

Don't panic. things will move soon!

Cammy out!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry mate, disagree completely!

There are a lot of transfers still waiting to happen. I know we've seen a lot of movement from a few clubs but there is much more to come.

Sanogo aside we haven't made a single one. Well not that many of our rumoured targets have gone elsewhere. Just as an example, for DM position, we have been rumoured to be chasing the following:

Gonalons
Capoue
Wanyama
Bender
Gustavo
McArthy
Fellaini

How many of those players have been signed by someone else? None. Of course there are rumours and maybe if there's been no progress by the end of the month then perhaps we can begin to get concerned, but not that much (Cazorla signed August 7th last summer).

Also, players do want to join us. Top players would walk into our team, we're an exciting project, we're a dormant club waiting to come alive again, we've got a point to prove, new money and a new approach to signings (Podolski first contract 100kpw - when did that ever happen?) which will be improved this summer.

Don't forget we're working on getting every single spare player out of the club, that takes some doing!

So far - Arshavin, Denilson, Squillaci, all the scrotes, Mannone. Coq and Djourou just landed loans, Bendtner will be off one way or another, there is interest from a few clubs for Chamakh and loads of clubs want Gervinho. Sagna is also in demand is as likely to move as he is to stay, and oil money clubs want him.

Things may not be happening that fast but they are happening! And as Gazidis said, we were dealing with managerless clubs for big players. Here's a summary of who those could be:

Higuain
Alonso
Ramos (I know, you don't need to say)
Begovic
Fellaini
Gustavo

I could go on but you get the point. We haven't struck a deal for anyone at Lyon because they're having a financial rethink. They have to sell, but they don't want to sell the two players we want - Gonalons and Grenier. If they sell the ones they want to sell, they won't be selling them for the money we offer. But it's not just us, they don't want to sell and until their finances are sorted we won't get answers. Some people believe Grenier would be Gerv's replacement so it's annoying for the fans.

Trust me we are not finding it hard to draw top players, but it would seem that top clubs hate selling to us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Disagree about higuain = sometimes deals take a long time, just the way it is.

Nothing more to add, a part from sit and wait.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well for one, we never pay market value.

Higuain not only has the potential to be better than rvp, but in his time at madrid he was better than benzema, unfortunately for him he was signed by calderon and not perez.

i would pay 25.5 mill with my eyes closed, but Wenger see's it differently. why pay 2 mill more? who else wants him? why outbid ourselves?

Xabi alonso for me is 2 years away from being a sub. He has lost pace, and the position he plays requires a lot of stamina. He is a world class player, but if you don't surround him with people to take up his defensive load, you will be left scrambling. He still tackles like a mad man thou.

Ramos I just don't know what to make of it. perhaps if mourinho was still there.

Begovic? I doubt it, stoke want too much and we won't pay over 5 mill for a GK.

fellaini, again depends on other targets, if they are cheaper and more technical we will get them, last ditch attempt maybe fellaini, if united have not signed him by then.

Gustavo? I really think Schweini and martinez make the others look good. I honestly don't see anything special. I would rather have a modern age DM like Ilkay Gundogan aka Xabi Alonso or Ilsier Illarmendi rather than the hardmen. like spurs have in the mould of paulinho, dembele, sandro.

for league games it makes sense, but in the Champions league? where every technical aspect is utilised?

we failed with our invincible team and viera, while others have succeeded with the modern holding midfielder.

an example would be yaya toure. how his forward runs just turn into counter attacks in the champions league, while in the EPL they are almost lethal.

as bale recently said : in the League the lower teams sit behind and contain your attack, while in europe, they are the best of the best, no one does exclusive defending. its all guns blazing.

Agree0 Disagree0

"who else wants him" seemingly nobody yet you go on about him like he is the best player on the planet. I think the reason you won't go the full 25.5 million is because aw is unsure and doesn't want to buy another flop. I don't understand why no one else wants him because he looks good to me, but doesn't it make you wonder

dave

Agree0 Disagree0

Dave, Juventus and Napoli both want him. Juventus just won the league without him, without even really using Bendtner - they don't need him but wanted him. Now they have Tevez in a very odd deal. Napoli want two forwards, one for the right and one for the centre. One is to add to what they've got, one is to replace Cavani. Plenty of clubs will be looking at Higuain but the truth is he will come with big wages coming from Madrid which will rule some clubs out.

Lakerville - I didn't know too much about Gustavo, apart from I knew he was class which is why Bayern bought him for the price they did. And he was class. But I wasn't that familiar with him. But did you see him in the Confeds? He and Oscar, jesus. They were militant and largely unsung. Gustavo's tackling was clean, technical and robust, he was often a 5th defender/3rd CB and all he did was protect the defence. He and Oscar were insane. I would gladly have him at AFC, he would be perfect. We were linked with him months ago so who knows. If we're talking to Bayern at all, I think it will be for Gustavo.

Also, I don't see Yaya as a defensive mid. He is only effective for City when he moves forward. That's why they signed Javi Garcia. Gustavo is a proper def mid.

I think we do pay market value, we just don't pay it if Wenger doesn't believe it. Arteta, Vermaelen, Santos, Koscielny, we paid market value for them, same with Park. With Podolski we paid something like 3m Euros more than we needed to! Yes it was half his market value in the end but he had a release clause and we paid well over it for some reason.

Am I missing something with squad numbers?

Everyone is suggesting Jenkinson for No. 2?

Er why about Gibbs surely that would make more sense?

Jenkinson would surely step into number 3 when sagna left?

Dandan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Traditionally the right back is number 2, that's why it was suggested.

Chimney sweep josh

Agree0 Disagree0

Nr 2 should be a right full-back, nr 3 should be a left full-back. It has been a lot of BS in Arsenal, when it comes to numbers recent years. Gallas, being a CB, playing with the nr 10 shirt. And with Santos now holding the nr 11 shirt. It is stupid.

Norwegian Gunner

Agree0 Disagree0

Traditionally a left back would have the no. 3 and a right back the no. 2 shirt so you're off base there.

Jenkinson, Bellerin or a new player will take that no. in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gallas as 10 was ridiculous. Wasn't he our first 10 after Bergkamp? What a joke.

Ed, with Real Madrid missing out on its main targets besides suarez, do you think they will be hesitate to sell higuain due to fear of not finding a replacement.
thanks {Ed027's Note - Which main targets?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Do you mean Cavani? {Ed027's Note - If so then Madrid really in for him after they saw his price tag, even they are aren't that stupid

Interesting piece of information, just checked the Arsenal website and there has been some switching of jersey numbers, the most important is Abou Diaby he has been with us for over 7 years and Arsenal do not needlessly chop and change squad numbers. But he is shirt number 2, an important squad number, generally. Now Diaby is out of action long term (again) and his long term future seems doomed at afc as Wenger has lost patience and with the new vacant number 2 jersey is AW preparing for future moves or current moves? I've not heard anything concrete about any DF being linked so this just makes me question why. Also Coquelin is number 22 but as he has been loaned out his squad number has already been given away to our new boy, this seems clear that his loan seems to be linked in with a permanent move if all is successful.

Tell me what you think but it seems AW is reorganising the squad quietly without being noticed, the way AW loves to operate in the transfer market, especially in his prime. Actually gives me goosebumps with anticipation for a change.

Any thought Ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wild guess.

My Arsenal Shirt No. Predictions:

Cesar - No. 33
Jenkinson - No. 2
Fellaini - No. 25
Grenier - No. 11 (when Santos leaves)
Higuain - No. 20

Agree0 Disagree0

Jenkinson loves number 25 due to his love for Kanu. Can't see him wanting 2.

OMFG

Don't you just love being a Gooner? I can not imagine following another football team, although I have to admit I nearly purchased a family season Ticket to watch Brentford FC last season.

Why Brentford FC, because I recently moved 10 mins from the ground. I wanted to introduce the family to football and why not support a grass roots team who have some passion.

So, who else has secret feelings for another team for what ever reason?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My second team is wolves as a few of my family members support them. As you probably know it has been tough for the last few years.

Agree0 Disagree0

I used to live in Northolt/Greenford area & we used to go to The Bees a lot, back in the early 60's. Used to pay to get in then just walk around the ground & stand where ever we wanted. Think we had an Uncle that played for them in the 30's as well. I still look for their results. Still got a soft spot for em

Agree0 Disagree0

Um, well my 'secret feelings' in, ahem, football terms, aren't so secret really! Arsenal has always been my club but Dortmund and Hamburg also as I grew up there.

So I don't really have any affiliation with English clubs in that sense. Shrewsbury Town is probably the one though as they're about 25 mins away from where I live now. My twin's best mate's Dad part owns them or something, his stand is the pro-Vision CCTV stand. Still the person has never invited me to a game but ym twin who isn't into football AT ALL has seen them about 30 times! In the box, with all the bens. Unbelievable.

Agree0 Disagree0

My second team has to be west brom as my family support them and been to the hawthorns to watch them a few times, all in all a good team, good ground and very passionate fans

Gooner red

Agree0 Disagree0

Have a mild affiliation to Brighton based on my dad and his side of the family all being fom there. Been to see them a couple of times, once at the old Goldsone Gound to see them knocked out the fa cup on penalties and the other a 3rd round cup game at old Trafford I around the early 90s.

Agree0 Disagree0

Exeter City are a fav for me. You aren't spoilt for choice here in Devon and they're the best run club of the three. £19 to watch them though, which is tough since they're a bit pants.

My other favourite teams are leeds and Nottingham forest as I was born in nottinghm and have fond memories of us winning the European cup and how the whole of the city filled market square, I also remember us playing celtic in one of the rounds and how the celtic supporters arrived from eight in the morning and drank the pubs dry mid afternoon they were happy days :)

Agree0 Disagree0

My second team is Braintree Town (Conference Prem), because as you can probably guess they are on my doorstep, give or take 100 yds. Arsenal are definitely still No1.

Agree0 Disagree0

Brighton for me. Moved here 15 years ago :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Crystal Palace would be my second team because of my dad went to see them and we have always talked about them but I'm glad he and my grandad chose to bring me up with the greatest team in the world!
