Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

This is my opinion on the arsenal situation;
Personally I don't believe wenger has the funds to sign top quality players. Yes the finances show cash reserves and profits. But surely if the board provided finance for transfers then there would be no need to sell our stars.
For example as mentioned by Metal 2 years wenger spent 50mil on transfers. But none of those signings were till after we sold nasri, clichy and cesc which generated closer to 70mil. what I'm thinking is if wenger was given that 50mil to spend then why not just use that towards the finances and jus keep the players. Surely we would of been better off keeping 3 quality players rather than buying new players who you are unsure of how they will settle and are nowhere near of the same quality.
You might say if wenger is being restricted then why don't he leave etc.
But what quality manager behaves in such a way? What manager comes out and criticises the board, policy lack of funds. Especially the ones who have been at the club for time, have passion for club, love the club.
I personally feel the board is to blame. They have no interest in winning, no interest in fans requests, only that the numbers on the accounts remain positive.
I also feel wenger is confused about his squad. He spent so many years building a squad around cesc, and the signs of top quality were there. But then he had a major set back, losing cesc and nasri at the same time. And then losing wilshere to injury. That's 3 world class midfielders depleted from a quality squad.
And then the setbacks in signings such as mata and hazard. Where the prices increased to a point they became unaffordable.
And now he has a squad where he tries to be as safe as possible, not playing many of the youngsters. Keeping the same tactics, playing the same players.
I can't see wenger signing a new deal, but I can't see him leaving this summer. I think he will see out his contract, but will try leave a squad with a good foundation.
I assume a lot of players will be sold, released this summer but don't think there will be any high profile departures other than possibly Sagna. I can see 4/5 key signings being made, all for the first xi. Gk, cb, rb, CDM, winger/st
I also see a new assistant manager coming in. Who may well be the next manager, he could be someone who will work, learn, shadow wenger for last season. Just my opinion. Personally would love it to be bergkamp.
This is all just what I think is going on.
I still think the good times are coming for arsenal, we will finish in top 4.
And if there are any takeover then it can only be positive. As we are the only club who is in a perfect set up.

Waq I know what you're saying about players like Nasri but all of those 3 are special cases - we could say why didn't we just keep them, but the thing is, Nasri wouldn't sign a new contract, he was causing issues and Clichy was not playing for the manager any more and making far too many mistakes (been miles better for city the last 2 seasons than he was in his last 2 for us) and cesc imo was the only one he got seriously wrong.
What I also question is he bought Santos as back up which is why he didn't go for Enrique - the point being he felt Gibbs was good enough. Lunacy. That was 2 seasons ago and even now people question whether he is truly the LB we need for a title and CL challenge. So back then it was a CRAZY decision. Selling Cesc. well, all you have to do is look at the Ronaldo and Modric sagas to know we could have stood our ground. I say Ronaldo because Madrid paid £80m for him even though he only wanted to go there (like Cesc) and we didn't hold out for as much money as we could. £30 to £35m was about a £20m discount on Fabgregas. I say Modric because he wanted to leave but was kept for another 2 season and it never affected his gameplay. Cesc should have been made to stay fr another year at least and then sold for the right amount.
So not Cesc but the other 2 I understand why they were sold.
I don't understand why Wenger sold Song and then decided to put faith in a guy who managed 10 games in a calender year last season, who has shown no signs of maintaining fitness and has missed more than half of this season through injury too.
Whilst the board may have said if you want money sell players, Wenger still spent horribly and took the most ridiculous risks.
I don't see the point of a new assistant manager coming in or being promoted if just like Rice they sit there with no input and just like Bould they aren't allowed to coach the defence.

Spot on Metal about Cesc - if we had made him wait another year or so, Guardiola would've moved on (Cesc's idol) and Tito comes into the role, who it is believed is not a great admirer of Cesc. might have been enough for him to stay a few more years, and enough to tempt Pep to Arsenal. guess it doesn't matter now, just another wenger eff up
Only other thing to add to OP is that Cllichy had one year left and wanted 100k+, so was sold undestandably yet annoyingly for a bargain 7m. Similar with Nasri, but we got our monies worth on him, we just didn't invest in a replacement straight away (2 years later we get Santi. ).

I think Song was sold because around the club and in the dressing room he was trouble, had a big mouth and liked to stir things up (apparently)

Let's be honest, if we stand a hope in hell of getting into the top four, wenger has to get it into his head that walcott and giroud aren't good enough strikers and only lukas podolski can fire us back there, as he is our only quality striker.

In reality Wenger has managed the club fairly poorly in recent seasons. His 'socialist' wage policy has rewarded lower quality players with inflated wages, making them unsaleable, whilst not paying market wages to the better players. It has been his choice to follow the notion of producing from within, when Dein advised the club years ago that we needed an oligarch, in order to compete with the likes of Chelsea & Man U. You can now include Man City. To think we still have the folowing players on the books: Mannone, Fabianski, Djourou, Santos, Denilson, Arshavin, Bendtner, Park!, Chamakh & Squilacci. Its desperate. Whilst we have sold the likes of Adebayor, Fabregas, RVP, Song, Toure, Eboue, Nasri, Clichy, etc. In the summer you will see Sagna & Vermaelen depart as they criticised Wenger. We will only spend what we receive in, making us no stronger. Its time for change, bring in Mourinho, Dein & Usmanov.

Hi ed, arsene has repeatedly stated year after year, that "this is the year", "judge me at the end of the season", "we need no one". Surely there has to be a concession he has got it terribly wrong. His signings have been terrible. Santi aside, he has bought a bunch of lightweights, physically and mentally. Does he really deserve the opportunity to turn things around. I would argue he has had way to long and we are worse than ever. Every decision has been his, every signing has been his. Watching spurs tonight, they have the physicality, skill and power we used to be famed for. Wenger's lost sight of what he created so successfully. Stewart robson is ridiculed for his rants about arsene, he is totally right. This dictatorship has to end. The rubbish he has signed, the embarrassing errors that occur game after game. We are a huge club but have been reduced to a laughing stock by him. If he is not big enough to admit he got it massively wrong, then he should go with dignity and let arsenal start a new chapter. No man is bigger than the club and therein lies the problem. He has been allowed total power with no accountability. It's his time to be judged. This shambolic situation has to end. Richie rich {Ed027's Note - Lightweights? Podolski and Giroud? he has bought well, just no where near enough, he also needs to play players in their prefered positions, we needed at least 2 more in the summer, now we need 5/6 players.
And yes wenger needs to come forward, and tell us what's gone wrong, he says this team has something special, well they have'nt shown it often enough, never perfromed in big games, he needs to get his act together and sort this mess out

Hey ed got some questions on a few players
Has UAE prodigy Omar Abdulrahman been linked with us? Looks like a great player if so.
Also Danish (Kobenhaven) striker Andreus Cornelius is being rumoured with us. What are the possibilities?
What is Wenger's most likely outcome by summer?
Thanks keep up the great work (all of the eds!) 😀 {Ed027's Note - if there is a upcoming talent you can bet your house on Arsenal being linked to them. I don't think we'll go for him, we have Joel Campbell who could really be our star, also the likes of Afobe and Akpom, he seems to be similar to Bendthner, hopefully he can be realistic and fullfil his potential

My expectation for the summer, as it stands to be, without a takeover:
Wenger will stay. He'll appoint a new assistant manager, someone at the club already. Boro Primorac in my opinion. Bould will leave.
In addition I think Wenger will beg for Dein to return. Doubt he will.
Coaching staff to be overhauled. Personally believe Henry, Bergkamp, Pires and maybe Adams/Keown will be brought in.
Over the year Wenger will assess Henry, Bergkamp and Pires as to who his successor should be. He'll make his recommendation and then be off on his merry way, 7.5m in the bank. Likely ending up at PSG as a director or some sort of liaison type role.
As for transfers:
Incoming -
I see another 'attempt' at Gtze, which if we miss fourth or don't get Dein back, will certainly fail. A CB, RB and CDM. That's the very most IMO.
Outgoing -
I see Vermaelen/Koscielny and Sagna being the big departures. Along with expiring contracts etc.
That's what I'm half expecting if there is no takeover.
It's impossible to guess what will happen if there is a takeover, which I doubt anyway. think it's an elaborate spin designed to boost Season Ticket sales.
Personally think we're stuck with Wenger for another season at least and the biggest 'on the pitch' changes will come in the summer of 2014.

Primorac has been with Wenger wherever he has managed and never been his official 'assistant manager' - altough he has always been that in a de facto sense; just prefers to stay in the backgorund. This won't change if Bouldy goes.

Arsenal London needs a big change in the summer.
the board & wenger need to show us fans that they want to fight for titels and not just packing cash into their pockets.
we need to get rid of the players that are sucking wages and are not playn high quality such as :
Squillaci 60K a week can leave 0m
Arshavin 70. 80K a week can leave 0m
Park 35-40K a week can leave 2-3m
Santos 40K a week can leave 2m
Chamakh 50-60K a week can leave 1, 5-3m
Bendtner 52K a week can leave 3-6m
Diaby 50-60K a week can leave 4-6m
Denilson 40-50K a week can leave 2-4m
Rosicky 60-70K a week can leave 1-2m
Fabianski 20-40K a week can leave 0m
Vermaelen 60-70K a week can leave 12-16m
Mertesacker 50-60K a week can leave 5-8m
Gervinho 50-60K a week can leave 8-11m
Sagna 50-70K a week can leave 8-13m
just by selling theese players we would make arround 60M not even the wages we are saving plus the 50-70M they promised us for the summer.
Players that we are linked with :
James mcCarthy 40-50K a week. 6-8m
Isco 50-70K a week. 20m
Remy Cabella 40-50K a week. 6-8m
Kevin Strootman 40-70K a week. 12-18m
Lucas Biglia 50-60K a week. 6-11m
Adam Szalai 40-50K a week. 6-10m
Adrian 50-60K a week. 12-15m
Mohammed Diame 40-60K a week.5m
Victor Wanyama 50-70K a week. 5-8m
Fernando Amrobieta 50-70K a week.5m
Asmir Begovic 40-60K a week. 5-10m
Maxime Gonalons 50K a week. 10-13m
Jaanmat 30-50K a week.5m
Sebastian Rode 30K a week. 5-8m
Simon Mignolet 40-50K a week. 5-7m
Ashley Williams 50-60K a week. 5-8m
Jovetic 70-90K a week. 30m
Capoue 50-70K a week. 15m
players I want to see at the emirates next season:
Mamadou Sakho 15M,
he is a big guy, strong in the air, good passing and seems to fitt in are team, since he is not playn at psg I think a deal with sagna could be possible to land him in the summer.
Younes Belhanda 15M,
great typ of player just the guy we need to take some presure off wilsheres back, he can score goals, has a magic touch and good eyes to make a deadly pass.
Maxime Gonalons 8-12M,
he is a typ arteta and a bit like marchisio,
just a mobile typ of player we need, who does a lot of def. work and ist stable he is cheaper then fellani or players like m'vila etc.
Pierre Emerick Aubameyang 8-13M
great first touch, playd well the last couple of seasons, and can score goals, he dribbles at the def meaning he challenges them to make mistakes, just the kind of striker we need at arsenal.
Yannick Ferreira Carrasco 3-5M,
good teq. the typ of middfield player that likes to keep the ball, dribble (maybe something to build on) not realy some1 for the first team but a realy nice squad player.
Kevin Strootman 15-20M,
he would be my first choice in bringn in a mid. player, he's really strong, goodpassing, good shooting can score goals but holds the mid. field together, a leader typ of player that also would take some waight of wilsheres shoulders.
Christian Eriksen 20-25M,
what do I have to say about this guy it would be a signal to all the big teams in europe if we sign him up, wich I just can say it will stay a dream :)
Keisuke Honda 18-20M,
awesome teq. great passing, great dead ball skills,
can score goals seems like a typ rosicky when he was at BvB.
Adam Maher 8-12M,
great guy, kinda like younes belhanda, I think wenger is looking to try to sign him up, it would be nice but not enough to challenge for the titels.
my #1 choice is sakho from PSG i'd be really happy :)

honda will much cheaper then that.

This is a big if, but if we were tobe in Europa league next year we should really try and win it. A trophy is a trophy and its more presitigous than the Capital one cup.
Swansea this weekend right? I think Giroud, Walcott, Ramsey and Mertersacker really need to be dropped. I cannot for the life of me see why Koscielny (our best CB) and Podolski (our best finisher) don't start as much as they should.
Szsezecny
Jenkinson - Kosciely - Vermaelen - Monreal
Ox - Diaby - Arteta - Wilshere - Cazorla
Podolski
Giroud and Walcott have been terrible and Mertersacker is getting destroyed by the highline we play, also he has been humbled everytime he's played against Michu. Diaby to bring more physical presence and Ox needs to regain form, desperatly.
With Swansea fresh of winning the cup it could go either way. I think if we match them up 3v3 in midfield and don't give their midfield or attackers time on the ball we can get at them. I think we will bounce back and win 2-1 or 3-1.
As for Bayern, i'm going to relish what could be our last CL game for the next few years. I reckon Arsenal will surprise them and get a good 2-2 draw or scrape a win. They're missing afew players like Ribery, Scheiwnsteiger, Badstuber. Miracles can happen. I will run through the streets of Detroit naked if we go through (will probably get shot but oh well)
COYG let's get 11 wins next 11 games

For anyone who's interested look for the video of Eboue's sending off against united a few years back in the FA cup, almost identical tackle as Nani's and there is a very different reaction from Fergie and the united players including Rio Ferdinand who are all calling for a red. I admit we were already a few goals down so not the same effect on the game as Nani's but still funny how which side of the red card you are on can change your view of it. Also I love how the media suck up to Fergie, and supported him for not coming out to give interviews etc because of how upset he must of been etc. Doubt they would treat Wenger or anyone else the same way and while I'm not his biggest fan at the moment, he gave an interview after the Bayern loss or after RVP's red against Barcelona which can be commended.

Rules is Rules!
UEFA states that if an act endangers another players welfare, intentional or not then this must be a straight red, also kicking the ball away after the whistle is a yellow, 2 yellows and you're off.
Nani's tackle was reckless, and what is worse is if you watch it in slow motion he extends his leg which is in contact with the player, at which point he knew exactly what he was doing.
Roy Keane, for once was right and he should know about red cards!

Hi all,
Just a thought, If Wenger goesin the summer, the new manager in will speak volumes for the real state of financial affairs at the club. If we employ a new manager used to working on shoestring budgets (Moyes and Martinez) I think it would confirm the thoughts that the boards pockets are higher on the adgenda than footballing success, if we go for a Jose etc they would only come if they had guarantees of substantial funds available, this would indicate that Wengers Transfer policy has been absolute rubbish for years.

Very wishful thinking here but if the rumours from Old Trafford are true and anyone at Arsenal has a brain they should go all out to persue Rooney.
Obviously finishing in the top 4 is a must this season but with a reported fee of around 30 million plus wages of a reported 300k a week that would total around 100 million+ and with 120 million burning a hole in the coffers we can afford that.
If Rooney does go his options are limited, he probably won't go abroad due to the language difficulties so that leaves Sh*tty & Chelski.
Sh*tty you would think is a no no but money talks, Chelski more likely but why not come to the Emirates, be the main man and link up with the future England stars of TW14, JW10, the Ox, Gibbs etc etc and the fans will be delighted as we are owed a huge signing
Obviously there would be many other obsticles should such a transfer ever happen to us but a nice thought none the less

fellow gooners on the wenger should go wenger should stay debate.
i am 50-50 on it so far.
a) yes wenger is loosing his mojo. and this is happening at a rapid rate. hence I think we should let him go and bring in new and fresh ideas. some one that can motivate his players and players play for the club and for him to.
b) the main negative thing about wenger leaving is the board. I personally think the board will replace him with a second rate manager. a yes man. a manager that is cheap to get from other clubs or isn't managing at this point in time. that's what they have shown with the players they buy. possible candidates STEVE BRUCE, PHIL BROWN lol. etc
anyway my point is we need change and lots of it but better the devil you know than the angel you dont.

I just fear the board will go for a cheap alternative. The desire from fans is for a big name. When the time comes and Wenger goes I worry the current board/owners true colours will be shown with a disappointing decision.

Yeah you may well be right Paul but I would still hope they chose managers who have done a great job in some capacity recently. Brucey's done nothing of note in the last few years. O'Neill's totally flopped at Sunderland this year. Surely even if we go low we can do way better than someone like them, Hughes etc?

I don't mean we will scrape the bottom of the barrel just I don't expect a Klopp type appointment as so many fans want.

1404 your right on all points bar one. Die Hard with a Vengeance is clearly the best of the series, followed then by the first film.

That post has just made my day here in rainy Madrid, waiting to collect my dog from the vets after his eye operation. Sorry a bit pointless mentioning this too

Pointless hiring anything larger than a Transit van to ferry Tottenham Hotspur league championship winners to any celebratory function as there are only 10 of them still alive.

don't know if anyone will agree but I wouldn't mind someone like carlo ancelotti as manager, I mean he won the league in his first season at chelsea and got sacked for finishing 2nd. I know he wouldn;t turn things around straight away but I always thought he was a good manager
thoughts?

Tony Pulis for me.

Do you mean Carlo Ancelotti himself, someone with the same/similar managerial qualities as Carlo Ancelotti or just someone who resembles Carlo Ancelotti ie similar hairstyle, jumper, grey/black mid-length coat?
The latter would probably be the cheapest option and may actually do a stupendous job!
