Not Arsenal related but >>

A) Yaya Toure, best all round midfielder in world football.

B) Surely the greatest ever escape.
One month ago, 7 points adrift with games against Man city away, Chelsea away and Manchester United away.

Thoughts?

I was thinking just that watching him last night Dags, I know it wasn't his greatest game over the whole 90 but he has so much talent.

That goal was something else, imagine if we had a striker that could do that.

For what he brings to a team he is up there with the Ronaldo's and Messi's of this world.

I'm betting City wish he was a few years younger, makes you wonder what Barcelona were thinking.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yaya is one almighty player and it's pain me that we missed out on him because of the visa & passport issues etc. instantly would have been the Viera replacement we have since never had. Fair play to Gus and SAFC worked hard and had the belief to get out of it. Cup final tickets for me and I'm counting down the days! COYG

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry, forgot to mention, I was talking about Sunderland in 2nd part of post.

Agree0 Disagree0

For what he gets paid, I don't think even barcelona could afford to keep him. also his forward forays work in a system where fernandinho sits back and covers while he goes ahead, they don't have that system at barcelona so its not like they are missing him a whole lot.

im happy with the way we are building, just hope we can keep ramsey, if he has another good year like he did this year, madrid and barcelona will come calling, and we know what's going to happen then.

Agree0 Disagree0

He will tell them to do one because the Arsenal fans have been so good to him?

I would be satisfied with Schneiderlein, Lukaku/Remi and Aurier (splitting time with Jeninson) - add that to the general improvement of Chambo, Gnabry, return of Walcott and we would be in the mix while retaining our identity. Let's do this!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Now Lukaku I do like, a quality player someone who Arsene needs to get

Agree0 Disagree0

My only issue with lukaku would be the fee being touted, there are surely better available for the rumoured 40 million

i hope its press talk as for me he ain't worth more than 25

Agree0 Disagree0

Lukaku isn't an upgrade to what we have. There s a reason why Jose hasn't preferred him.

Agree0 Disagree0

^^ Madness! Lukaku is superior to Giroud in every way. He would score over 20 goals in the premiership with Ozil supplying him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - dont bank on it chess..he has done well for everton this season, but he has got a terrible first touch, and does not compete very well in the air either, he is still learning his trade, but nowhere near the finished article yet mate..

He shouldn't have cut his locks like Samson that's where his power lay haha

can I post this here? found it great read and very interesting

can you add any detail into this pan European league expected in the future? {Ed002's Note - There was a recent meeting (three weeks ago) by many of the main protagonists, but the bif scheme is:

Without going in to too much detail: (a) A number of clubs take the opportunity a once or twice a year to discuss various issues including changes in rules, television rights, the power of UEFA, exploitation issues for new technology streams, etc. These discussions, the last of which were in late August, also always turn to the possibility and structure of a breakaway pan European league. Several are ex-G14 clubs, several are not, and some clubs decline involvement in such discussions. (b) The plan is that at some point a number of clubs would break away from their national leagues and UEFA. They accept that they would be banned from all existing club competition and the players would initially be banned from all FIFA competitions as well, but know that FIFA would be looking to negotiate in any case. It would be the end of UEFA in all probability and UEFA are very aware of this. It would also result in a restructuring of many of the national leagues. (c) The clubs would renegotiate their television rights, rights of distribution via other streams etc. (d) It remains the greatest fear of UEFA and all major national authorities that one day this will happen.

There is every likelihood that the big money from television, sponsorship etc. would go with a breakaway league. It would completely rupture the operations of UEFA and I would expect it would require national associations like the FA to restructure their leagues. Nobody wants this but it is the eventual consequence I would expect. If I had to speculate, I would think (1) you might eventually see something like five or six EPL teams leave for two-tier pan European league; (2) the Premier League would be disbanded as an organisation; (3) the FA would restructure in to two 20 team divisions with lower leagues regionalised as they were many years ago; (4) FIFA would ban all players from the breakaway teams from International football - perhaps rescinding that position to stop FIFA breaking up as well. I could also see many teams lose their professional status. I would think we are probably 10 years away from any significant move at this time.

I hold a reasonably strong view in terms of the need to restructure football in Europe in any case. For me an eventual a breakaway pan-European league would force the restructuring of many of the national leagues, possibly resulting in a British league with perhaps only a couple of professional tiers and then regionalised amateur leagues below that. Financially I do not see that so many pro sides can be sustained within the sport which, like it or not, will see more and more money going in to the highest levels of the game. Governments will ensure that grassroots sport get funding but everything in the middle (Southern, Northern, Conference, Division 2, Scottish Divisions 1-3, League of Wales will not get the funding needed to continue on any sort of professional basis).}

I assume, ladies and gentlemen, you've all seen Özil's post on FB?

Quoting Tony Adam's 'If you play for the name on the front of the shirt, they'll sing for the name on the back'?

Well, of anyone doubted his commitment, I suggest you take stock of that!

With the right forward in front of him, Mesut will be unplayable next season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd like to point out that I meant 'remember' not 'sing'

It's been one of those days people.

I believe Wenger will sign a 2 year deal, as he will wait until his daughter goes off to university and he is free to move on. He has started courting German clubs in anticipation.
I am slightly surprised that he wishes to continue in club management after he leaves us, as assuming he leaves in two years he will be in his 67th year, when I would have thought International management would have been more appealing.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wenger wouldn't be busy enough managing a national side, he likes the day to day business of football

Agree0 Disagree0

Banbury although agree with you, how many coaches would honestly turn down the chance to manage their national side?

Controversial yes, but should be good fun. Can we please have a poll for the fans favourite Ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - if you tell me what its pertaining to rue....i might be able to mate!..

I think we should do it after the last league game

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed of the year! It has to come surely.
May the best Ed win :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Ed025 will spoil it by offering drinks for all; Ed007 by offering "specialist" services for all.}

07 May 2014 19:57:33
Perhaps we could have a stroll off, all the Ed's stroll across the beach, favourite drink in hand wearing their budgie smugglers and quality pair of gentleman's shoes ;-)

Then pick your favourite, just a thought. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - only one winner there im afraid jenny...iv got form.. :)

Jenny I think its ok to ask to see their manifestoes before you vote but manhood's! Is that strictly necessary!

Agree0 Disagree0

07 May 2014 22:11:07
Ha Ha, sorry g62 it was a little inappropriate :-)

Ed025 still gets my vote though, I really liked his manifesto! :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Your not wrong Jenny, Butch 025 is a top Ed no question.
Its just his centre back knowledge that he needs to brush up on, Jagielka, I ask you :-)

With Sagna leaving along with Bendtner, Fabianski, Viviano, Kallstrom.

Possible departures of Podolski, Vermalen.

I wonder what is in store for Ryo Miyachi, Thomas Eisfeld, are they going to make the cut or are they going to be let go or sold?

Clearly we need a backup keeper, not sure if wenger will give the reserve keeper a chance, or if he will sign Viviano, as we have an option to buy the player, who has basically not played at all.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Martinez and iliev are both good keepers especially for there age

Agree0 Disagree0

Sczesny has had an amazing season, but when I saw courtouis play and the calm he has when he does, it just reminds me of casillas and buffon back in the day. even neuer can't compare at that age, he is going to be a phenomenal keeper. just wish we had him.

Let's make this interesting Excluding messi and ronaldo, if you could sign any 5 players for arsenal, who'd they be? Doesn't have to be realistic at all

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Courtois
Piszczek
Kompany
Hazard
Lewendowski

Holy fiddlesticks that would be a good team added to what we have got!

Agree0 Disagree0

For me it would be;

GK Cassiles (real madrid)
CB Varne (real madrid)
DM Yaya toure
LM Reus
CF saurez

IF we could but never happen WOW

Agree0 Disagree0

A tough one, no point in thinking it through so ill just say what's on top of my head:

Branislav Ivanovic
Arturo Vidal
Marco Reus
Sergio Aguero
Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Agree0 Disagree0

Courtois
Varane
Bender
Reus
Suarez

though i'd maybe change lukaku for someone like aguero (different play style to giroud)

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice Post!

Unfortunately, the Arsenal blood in me is forcing me to be somewhat realistic lol:

RB - Abate
CB - Caulker (as back up, keeping the Mert-Kos partnership)
DM - Schneiderlin
LW - Reus/ Draxler
ST - Benzema

Dam, now I'm depressed lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lahm ( any where he wants to play)
Agureo
Yaya Toure
Hummels
Reus

Amazed no one had gone for Lahm best player in the budeslige

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - cant agree BDG, an excellent full back, who has been turned into an average midfielder for me mate..

RB - Coleman
DM - Javi Martinez
LW - Draxler
ST - Suarez
CM - Cleverely ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Aguero

CDM - Gundogan
LW - Di Maria
ST - Suarez

Agree0 Disagree0

Yaya toure
pogba
Aguero
lahm
and either reus or di maria

pace out wide and upfront, with midfield punch. agreed lahm is the best full back about atm, and aguero would gift us the room in midfield as there's not many teams who would dare hold a high line against high/walcott/reus. ozils would be in his element

Agree0 Disagree0

GK - Hart
RB/CB - Richards
CM - Barkley
LW - Sterling or Lallana
ST - Sturridge

Trying to keep an English theme here and build our English/British base for future, any other ideas on good English/British players we could put in them positions

Would any of our tittle rivals take Kallstrom or Artetta from us on a free? Would they name them in their 25 man sqaud for next season?
Would utd even consider swapping Cleverly for either?

I think if we are to ever be be champions of PL and or CL we have to be brutally Honest about some of our players.
If they wouldn't make any of the Chelski city utd Liverpool or Everton 25 named sqaud why do we have them?
Maybe its time to less loyal and more competitive

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think united rate cleverly for the same reason Arsenal rate Arteta.

he was past his prime when we bought him, and he does a job, but he's not going to be more than a backup.

the only difference in this argument is cleverly is barely 24 and he is past his prime.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant really include Liverpool in that list they have some shockers in their squad haha

Agree0 Disagree0

No disrespect intended to the arsenal supporters - luv you all - but you are a bunch of sweeties for your lack of respect for Arteta.

He is a class act that sacrifices his game for the benefit of the team - he could be much more prolific if he played for himself.

And yes he could make the 25 man side of any of the top 4 with ease!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sweeties? thanks ed you are a sweetie ;-))

Possibly a question for the Eds.

With the recent FFP sanctions (if you can call it that) in regards to Man city and PSG.

1)Do you still see these clubs spending big in the summer?

2) are they able to spend big without selling big?

3) is the FFP penalty going to go the same way barca's transfer ban did, make it seem like a threat and a month later its as if it was a bad dream.

Im just curious to know if the big players (teams with more money than well they can count) are going to be going bananas trying to sign everything that moves and keep spending 100 odd million without flinching, or if they will for example.

Man city sells aguero to Madrid for 60 odd million and they buy a CB for 40 mill

PSG sells Cavani for 60 million

and they buy Pogba and sell veratti, well just trying to make the example make sense but clearly it sounds crazy even in theory.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - 1) Yes, UEFA have got themselves in to a bit of bother here, with clubs not being willing to roll over and accept their punishment. There is no limit placed on the sponsorship, other than a very vague wording, which would be impossible to assert in a court of law. I really do expect UEFA to back down or lose, especially as they have so stupidly put forward a fine as punishment for clubs losing money! No sensible person is going to see that as a good idea.

2) Yes, both have players available to move on, which they could include in part-ex deals.

3) In my opinion, yes. There are other European clubs very willing to back their fight, UEFA can't win.}

My fears have been realised.

your reply pretty much sums the impending doom clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool and maybe United to an extent will have to deal with ( although united's commercial deals enable them to compete with oil money.

Much appreciated for the response ED

Can I possibly ask if there is any truth in the Messi wants aguero at barca rumours, I do remember from some prior posts that what messi wants messi gets, is that a likely scenario with them having pedro, sanchez, neymar, tello, and who knows how many more players for those forward positions.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - One thing to clarify about the FFP rules is that it is not just transfer fees, it is growth in wages as well. As such the likes of Manchester United can be hit quite hard. Messi was asked about various targets that Barcelona and Real Madrid have this summer and his statement fell out of Real Madrid's interest in Aguero. So there is some truth in it.}

Im still stumped as to why Madrid want aguero more than suarez.

I think he has done brilliantly well having an injury ravaged season, was neck and neck with suarez at one time, and 12 goals shy of him is not bad considering the game time he has missed.

but if you buy players you buy them on form, and to think madrid want an injurt ravaged aguero over suarez makes no sense, unless aguero is 30 million cheaper.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me its easy the stats prove aguero is deadly he even beats the kings on goals per game

and he's not partially insane with a red card or further sanctions hanging over his head

football wise I think aguero is far more straight forward and an excellent touch too

Agree0 Disagree0

I guess aguero works in a system where they have 3 other strikers because he has been nothing but injury prone at city.

I don't see why city just sell him and strenghten at the back, its not like they lack firepower.

Agree0 Disagree0

Best news for us could be aguero heading to barcelona and suarez to madrid. and then we can play them without their x factor.

recently read an article about how wenger wants a 4 man creative midfield and how cesc would make it a core of ozil, wilshere, santi and cesc who can freely rotate positions and create a devastating midfield, then the first comment was class.

"so the idea is to have cesc, ozil, santi and wilshere, playing no10 when the no9 can't shoot in straight lines? so I assume we will be passing the ball for a long time before one of them realises that they need to take a shot, and before you know its 90 mins plus extra time and wenger has thrown the bottle in"

Hi Eds, I don´t know if this been asked before but is there any interest in Alexandre Lacazette from Arsenal?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Why not try the search function then?}

07 May 2014 00:02:05
Lars Bender has said he is not ready to leave Leverkusan yet. Does that mean we need to find another star now? I hope not!

Failing his arrival, who would you like to see come in? Kondogbia? That's my choice.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Morgan Schneiderlin! Proven in EPL, Home grown status, very disciplined, best fit for the way we play! :)

Agree0 Disagree0

When I first read Bender was staying I was disappointed then I realised which paper was reporting it, so there's more chance than ever he really will be an Arsenal player next season

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is it whenever we are linked with a player the press seem to love claiming they are happy where they are!

Agree0 Disagree0

If his twin was a viable option I wouldn't decline. Also a very good player IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

I have no idea why Khedira is not being touted.

although reading recently that chelsea want to make a 36mill deal for khedira was on the news round.

who comes up with that? 36 mill for a player on the last year of his contract? for a CDM that too?

anyway for the reason that he is on his last year, it would seem feasible for us to try and conjure a deal to get him to london, atleast would have thought so. guess not.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - if he signs for chelsea..he would still come to london lakes!!

Ah good ol chelsea, buy players on cheap, loan 2
