love the comment I heard earlier.
Jurgen Klopp loves heavy metal music. He thought it was going to be a "Stairway to Heaven" but it turned into "A Highway to Hell". Oh, don't you just love it?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I bet Alex Song is thinking "Well, they took Flamini back so maybe they will take me back?" No thank you Alex.

Notwithstanding last night's result, it's still quite possible all 3 teams in our CL group could finish on 12 points.
Has anyone the exact criteria that would come into play in such a situation.
Is it a) goal difference
then b) goals scored
then c) head to head performances.
Just thinking that the 2 matches between Arsenal and Dortmund finished in an aggregate score of 2-2, but Dortmund scored more away goals.
So many permutations still available, so it behoves Arsenal to beat Marseille by as many goals as possible to improve our goal difference.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think it comes down to head 2 head so you could be right about Dortmund scoring 2 away goals to our 1.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think its head to head that counts first then gd.
But won't affect us unless we get complacent against Marseille as we won't loose to Napoli

Agree0 Disagree0

If football manager is correct, then it is A. Head to head
B. goal difference
C. total goals.

Our games specifically against Dortmund do not matter now, since we tied our head to head performances. if We have a better goal difference than them at the end of the day, we would go through.

hope this helps.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets just hope we beat Marseille and Napoli get a point away to Dortmund.

Agree0 Disagree0

Napoli is not going to beat dortmund away. Dortmund will win that game. it is on us to win against marseille and not have the last game to fight for qualification

Agree0 Disagree0

But if Dortmund beat Napoli and we beat Marseille it will go down to the last game

Getting confused- Physio Room now shows Flamini coning back next week, Podolski now won't be back till end of November and Walcott 23rd November. Alex Ox has now been re-assigned as No return date given.

Couple of days ago we were goping to have Pod and Flamini back this weekend

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well, I would not read too much into it. we will know by sat the situation of the injured players.

if we put out the same team we did at dortmund is just fine. just that we need to have some cover when some of the starters eventually tire.

Ozil needs a break. he is just not built like ramsey to run for years.

but his presence on the ball when we need to alleviate pressure is amazing. let's hope we can go into international break smug.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post Laker, I totally concur

I bet Dortmund really knew it wasnt going to be their night when even in the last few minutes Niklas Bendtner came running on the pitch. Talk about rub salt into their wounds lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I heard after the game he was actually running around smelling the kind of shampoo the dortmund players use. he was uber excited about the scent especially after running for 80+ mins.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Nov 2013 18:20:09
What a difference Ozil has made to us, not just his own efforts but those around him have to raised their game totally.

With players coming back from injury knowing they have to try harder than ever to get a game and those in the team trying to hold on to their place, its not been like this since! Dare I say it the invincible's.

We must be careful who we buy to add to this fantastic squad because just as Ozil has pushed us on the wrong players ( people ) could soon pull us back.

I would rather see out the season with what we have than bring in disruption.
I'm not saying don't buy just that we need to get the right people as much as players

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think if walcott and or poldi can do well in spells when giroud is subbed off, it will give wenger the confidence to stick with his squad.

but if a truly amazing player or player of world class potential is available, I don't see why we should not improve our team.

i don't expect big teams to sell their players aka reus, gundogan, draxler, bender.

Madrid and barcelona are a different story, I think they may sell to buy a key position player, aka striker for madrid or CB for barcelona.

i read somewhere Barca are interested in Mata and Luiz, no idea who they would sell to fund moves in january mourinho won't sanction.

I feel we should utilize barcelona's position to our advantage. put in a 30 mill bid for alexis sanchez and see if they pull the trigger.

Agree0 Disagree0

We definitely need to bring in a striker,
and maybe a backup centre back in jan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not too sure who we can buy in jan transfer window who could improve our squad. As G62 said, we just got to get the best out of the squad we have and than improve during summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with JayGun6, we really need a striker. Poldi and Walcott will probably be used occasionally in that position but we are in big trouble if Giroud gets injured. And, although he is still performing very well, he does look pretty tired at the moment.

I think Benzema would improve our squad. People who watch La Liga say he looks poor. I have also seen his disappointing performances, but he is supposedly at an all-time low and still averaging over a goal every 2 games this season. He would be a great back-up for Giroud.

Anyway I reckon, given Wenger's last-gasp Ba efforts in summer, we will get a striker in January, with Bendtner going out. Even if both deals are just loans.

Agree0 Disagree0

Benzema would be a good signing. Be more than happy with that.

"We have today received confirmation from the Premier League that the following game involving Arsenal have been rescheduled as a result of TV selections:
Aston Villa v Arsenal
Monday, January 13 (originally Saturday, January 11)
Kick-off: 8.00pm
Live on: ssn

Please note that should either or both clubs be involved in an FA Cup 3rd Round Replay, this match will revert to Sunday, January 12, kick-off 12pm and will remain live on ssn Sports".

That was taken directly from arsenal.com, now edds I don't know if I am allowed to post this or not but surely this is a disgrace and the premier league should not allow games to be moved to suit a broadcasters needs, I don't know if this re-jig is better or worse for us break wise but its not on in my opinion.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you are complaining about - every year all games start being scheduled for the Saturday and then four or so get rescheduled for the broadcasting - This gave Arsenal £57M last season and will give the club around £75M from now on.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Unfortunately Trev its how we got Ozil and are able to pay the players millions of £s.
Its not nice but its the same for all successful teams and those they play against.

Guys I think we all need to calm down a bit. We haven't actually played anyone of any quality. And our defence is poor. Mertesackers too slow and Koscielny is rash. And our midfield of course can't compete when it comes to tough matches -we lack someone like lee cattermole or Ryan shawcross who just get stick in no-nonsence. And we've alse got no depth. What if Giroud gets injured? Everyone knows you need at least 4 wold class players who can go up front.

You guys need to listen to guys like Michael Owen - a true modern day legend whose career didn't end when he was 27 and who was definately the best striker of his generation. Who have you actually heard of in our team? Thryve all got, like 80ish stats on fifa - not 90+ like what Manchester United or city or Chelsea have. It's individuals that win games, not teamwork.

And listen to guys like Hansen. The games still exactly the same as it was in the 80s you know. He knows what he's talking about - it's not like he needs to dig out highlights from games 4 years ago to prove we defend too high up the pitch.

So please, take off the rose tinted glasses folks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah fair comment mate, guess we haver got over excited by things., but I just can't help it because even if though I know we just don't go to old Trafford and win I still think we will.

What we could do with is a Ashley Young then people would take us seriously, there's no place for football in football theses days.
11good con men against 11 good con men that's why people pay to watch and where the real pride of the game Lye's.
You win nothing with footballers

Agree0 Disagree0

You are kidding aren't you? No one who puts "we haven't played quality yet" could possibly be serious. They can dig up highlights from 4 years ago but that was 4 YEARS AGO lol if our defending was seriously that bad why are we top of the league lol? What team has 4 world class strikers anyway lol chelski don't and they've won the league, united don't and they've won the league, our invincibles team didn't and we were invincible lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Idk which pundit still believes Man United are better than dortmund!

Great post Original AG, I absolutely loved it lol.
G62, "Theres no place for football in football these days". lol love it mate

Can you imagine a world cup full of Ashley Young's that would cure the ticket and hotel price problems. Roll up roll up 3 week trip to Rio £1000, the money goes straight into your account the minute the final whistle blows. In order to receive your money you must watch the he full 90minutes. Sorry about that folks

Agree0 Disagree0

Great Joke, judging players by computer game stats. I suggest you actually watch the performances in real life.
Also have destroyed teams with plenty of quality.

I'm reading some very complimentary comments in the papers today but none more so than Jurgen Klopps. I have to say I've never read such praise from a team manager that has just lost a match talking about the opposition. Which brings me to my point. Is he paving his way to be the next Arsenal manager? I'm trying to read between the lines, obviously. He may have signed a contract where he is but in today's game it doesn't stand for much if someone want out and the money is right. If be interested to read people views on this.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When we played them a few years back his English wasn't as good as it is now so that maybe something.

Would like him as a Wenger replacement and I think we will find a lot more about who could be the replacement when/if Wenger signs a new contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is a top manager and was very complimentary about arsene and arsenal even before the match. If wenger retires he is the man to take over

Agree0 Disagree0

Klopp is a good guy but not the man to replace Wenger.

The only man for that job is Wenger, we must clone him now, you hold him I'll swab him

Agree0 Disagree0

When wenger does sign the dotted line ( can't believe he has changed my mind in a year but hey football fans are fickle sue me)

the list of managers who will want to take the arsenal mantle will not be short.

Pep has two and a half years so has klopp, and who knows which new revolutionary manager comes on the scene. the issue won't be selection, we will be turning people away.

until then wenger's job is to make arsenal a force again. and if all it took him was adding 42.5 million to a squad he kept adding players not worth over 16 million and turning them into title contenders, I can only imagine what we will be like with a world class forward and a CDM of a similar quality.

our midfield is very impressive. cazorla and ozil along with the likes of ramsey, wilshere is a amazing future.

lets hope we can keep playing well and winning when we don't and take a trophy home this year.

until then one game at a time. let's not get ahead of ourselves but its good to be in a confident mood too.

bring on utd. by no means an easy game but I think if we beat them we can end their title challenge. no team has lost 4 games soo early and come back to win a title. especially not a Manchester United team without fergie.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal played someone of quality last night, that is a mad statement.

Dortmund have beaten Bayern Munich this season, they beat Real Madrid to get to the final last year

Last night was the first time in 61 games they have failed to score at home.

Guys, guys, guys. What’s all this talk of us getting a draw at OT on Sunday? Where is the faith gentlemen (and ladies)? This is the Arsenal. We managed to beat BVB in their own backyard. We managed to silence the so called “SAS” last Saturday. So in the space of 4 days, we have managed to keep out arguably 2 of the best strikers in the world. The only thing that can stand in our way is mentality. I know the boys are going there to prove a point, and I have a feeling it’s going to be a drubbing. Man U are at their weakest now for the first time in a really long time. David Moyes doesn’t know what he is doing, the team has no real chemistry, their most recent signing has been a flop and they are coming off a very poor match against Real Sociedad on Tuesday.

Come on boys, this one should be in the bag as well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If last night showed us anything its that good defending can win you any game just cause man u are out of sorts does not mean, we will win! . as arsenal fans we should know better than most that being the better team on the day does not always mean you win the match! this will be a tricky one as always! saying that the whole team should be forced to watch that 8-2 game before sunday to rile them up cause I would just love it if we stuffed them!

Agree0 Disagree0

Good call rick- man u may be down a bit but they still have a few players who could turn the game ( and usually the three officials as well)

Fantastic from the boys last night, kept majority of that crowd quiet until we scored :) if klopp likes heavy metal so much why was he listening to westlife all night ;)

Props to the fans who travelled though, made your voices heard in a hostile venue, hats off to ya!

As for our defence, well There ain't a better one in the league as far as I'm concerned, per was just sublime! Kos was sublime (and not to mention a f&@#ing hard man, he got hit full force in the ribs but got back up after a minute and carried on!) Gibbs and sagna played fantastic as well, so organised were they that every time Dortmund had it in the net the player was 3-4 yards offside.

So bloody happy to be a gooner!

watched the game for a second time last night, after the goal the game opened up as Dortmund (spelling) pushed for an equalizer (Rueus miss) and we looked for a second (Rambo effort).

I noticed Santi waving his arms telling his team mates to clam down and get back to the game plan and we then settled back into rhythm and got a well deserved 1-0 win. Against one of the best teams in Europe, away! stunning!

Now for man u and rv. ! i'm reading that Falamini (spelling) is back for the game, IMO we should have the same starting XI. I don't want to see Rambo on the right, he is not as effective there and also that would Rosisky (spelling) would be benched. We are a much, much better team with Rambo in the middle and Rosisky on the pitch!

Buzzing for the game! any one know who is going to referee the game?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Referee should be Manchester United legend & official mascot & overall baldy howard webb.

Vital win last night. A draw in Naples and a 3 points against Marseille should give us 13 points. let's hope Dortmund donus a favour when they play Napoli because I desperatley want us to finish top of this group.
Of the teams we could potentially face in the next round, Juve are the only ones I would like to avoid.

I would fancy our chances against all the other 2nd placed teams including AC Milan.

By the way, is anyone else excited to see how dangerous our counter attacks will be once we have pace with Walcott and the Ox back? There were a couple of times where Ozil had Schmeltzer in his sight but not the pace to go beyond him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Dortmund will beat napoli.

we have to beat marseille

it will all come down to the last game with us playing away at napoli and dortmund away at marseille.

If we take 3 points from our next game we only need a point from the last one to top the group and its possible.

3 Down 1 to go DG, let's hope its freezing in Manchester on Sunday because it felt like -50 in Dortmund last night as we served up a gourmet delight.

Theo and Poldolski should be available too, any one with a ticket for Sunday best wrap up warm because there's real potential for a mini ice age.

hi all not posted on here for a while.
i am really pleased as everyone else is on how we are performing this season and long may it continue.
one thing that's really annoyed me lately is there's always a pundit somewhere that just don't want to give us the praise we deserve. there's that mug on the radio and hansen and shearer on motd. hansen said we can't win the title because we cannot defend but he chooses to bring up a video from 3 years ago and don't know if he knows our defence has been one of the best.
sorry for ranting on but it just seems like now we are doing well a lot of pundits just want us to fail.
anyway let's get the result on sunday and carry this good form on and stick 2 fingers up at the haters. (especially the 2 on motd)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I honestly believe the reason they doubt us all the time is because they feel to win the league you need to spend hundreds of millions on players so arsenal spending £42.5million on a player is not enough in their eyes. Put it this way, the spurs have spent near as makes no difference £110million on players this season and there 4th level on points with 3 other teams, by their logic they should be top of the league lol money can't buy you everything.
In regards to our performance last night I thought we played fantastic! Felt a little sorry for giroud being isolated so much upfront but when we needed him he didn't let us down. I guess there's only 5 words to say, There's Only One Aaron Ramsey!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we're all pretty fed up with the press we're getting. With the team playing so well, the club being so stable, the fans starting to believe; it's not the worst thing to have to complain about though!

Most of these pundits, that can't even tip a hat in politeness to our team this year, are pointless and pathetic at their jobs. Nearly all of them were top players, but have retired to play golf and chat on tele. I don't think a lot of them even care that much about football anymore. The MOTD mob are particularly awful. They don't know foreign teams, foreign players, young players, or whos in form or out of form. I swear they get their knowledge from reading the sunday papers.

Well we upset half the media world last weekend beating Liverpool, its time to upset the other half on Sunday! Can't wait for the kick-off!

Alright Guys, I don't post on here but I read it often and make for interesting reading so thanks. However, tonight I must break my silence. I posted this back in September.
04 Sep 2013 22:30:41
Right then Gunners- Think this one over - beating rubbish Spurs was satisfying on Sunday but. this will be nearly as good if not up there with Sunday. November 2nd. Vs Liverpool at the Emirates- Liverpool will be having delusions of challenging for the title and on that day we'll be in prime position to bring them crashing down to earth, trust me.,, I think they'll have dropped points by then and will be level-ish with Us if not behind and on a drawing or losing streak so wether we get them whilst they're down or whilst they're flying high it will still be equally as satisfying to put them in their place. what do you reckon?!?! I can't wait!

***********************

How happy I have been since Sunday and we put them in their place. Which is 2nd. at the moment. But it's not 1st and that's where we are. The best thing about this season besides some of the great football is the consistency and maturity starting to embed itself within the team. It's hard to single anyone out because the attitude and application thus far has been exemplary (it has been since we beat Munich away last Feb/March). I'm so proud of the team and the club just for doing thing the right way and being in this position through a lot of hard graft and self belief. Well done Rambo you have turned talent into goals and points through getting your head down and believing in yourself. Also, our club captain Tomas Vermaelen who has been a model pro and is fully behind the lads even tho' he has had to watch from the bench. You're all just as important as each other boys so keep going and fighting for the club. Sunday is massive and if we can get through that without dropping points we will have everyone running scared if we haven't already. Including RVP.

I'm not saying we're going to definitely bag a trophy but it's good to see is top and for the right reasons.
Long live Wenger and AFC!

From elbowing kos and his diving and looking for fouls over the two legs that I've lost a bit of respect for him, but then again if he were to play for us would you want him to cut that out or keep it up?

Agree0 Disagree0

TBH, I really hope Dortmund fail to make it out of the first round. I think it will be easier to make a bid for him then as they would not want to lose him for free. Of course he will be cup tied, but I think he would relish at the prospect of tearing defences apart in England

First home loss in 60+ games with Ramsey scoring the winner. Couldn't be a better two fingers up to our critics. We are up there with anyone at the moment.

If he stays fit what will Ramsey reach by end of the season?! I even heard a couple of fans whisper Something about a golden ball in french at the pub. Very Outlandish in a World Cup year, but for a silly punt I'm struggling to think of a better one ha ha : )
