A mate came round and watched the game with me on tuesday and at the final whistle my dog went and laid under the kitchen table and started whimpering.
My mate said "what's the matter with the dog"
I said " he does that every time we play badly"
" What's he do when we play well " my mate asked
' I don't know" I said " I've only had him since boxing day " :-)

I dred to think how he will be after we have finished with you mate ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

If that happens mate its a one way ticket to the vets for the dog, I'm sure if it gets that bad he'd be grateful too :-).
Strangely no matter how much I fear for our immediate future its the utd game that keeps me sane, a very sweet moment in a disappointing season that I plan to enjoy to the full extent

Hey eds I have been reading about the two tier pan european league, brief discussion which is/was being discussed on the liverpool banter page.

i do remember something along the lines of selection to the pan european league is by invitation only?

can I ask who decides this? Is there body that has been formed? or rather a collection of executives from the biggest clubs in terms of monetary revenue.

I also did read something along the lines of 2-3 clubs breakaway in the near future to join this league, which will end up restructuring the EPL.

1) does that mean these 2-3 clubs, are those that are invited and the remaining 3-4 clubs of the total 6 mentioned, will be joining at a later date of invitation?

2) can you mention the names of the clubs that will make the move? or am I to assume 6 being ( Man utd, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs?)

3) one last question in regards to the two tier pan european league. does the two tier league mean promotion and relagation between the two tiers? or rather two seperate entities of the league which run parallel for example Champions league and Europa league?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The league is some way off - the invitation only at this time relates to the group of clubs discussing it. (1) You did not understand what was written. (2/3) You need to go back and read what I wrote and it wpuld be better to ask questions there not here.}

Ok will have another read. cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

The euro league will kill football

Agree0 Disagree0

I think this lge is inevitable, but there will still be a national lge as well maybe similar to the old reserves lge but of a better standard

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Derby it will spell the beginning of the end of the game.
Those left behind will quickly go part time and the smaller break away clubs will find themselves used and surplus to requirements very soon after its launch.
The really big boys will go from strength to strength short term but when the Masses are priced out of the picture other sports will benefit from footballs greed and inevitable self destruction

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It would be clearer if someone were to cut and paste the thread from the Liverpool page.}

Happy Friday everyone,

Ed, heard a rumour that Joel Campbell will be heading to Newcastle with Tiote coming in the opposite direction this January. Apparently Pardew let slip on the weekend?

Do you think there's anything to this? Why the f#*k would Wenger hold onto JC and not play him when his stock was so high post World Cup?

Thanks as always,
Trinidad-Gooner

{Ed002's Note - Twitter is this?}

Poor Joel Campbell is waste at Arsenal, he will never get regular first team football, especially now that Walcott is back and Giroud will be back in afew weeks. He has great potential and I really hoper Wenger sells him abroad.

But for Tiote? No thanks, he's not the CDM we are looking for, if Alex Song wasnt deemed good enough then Tiote certainly isnt. I know AC Milan were interested in Campbell in the summer, maybe a straight swap for Nigel De Jong? (I know thatll never happen)

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha

I'm actually not sure, someone posted it on another blog but said "inside sources" confirmed there is interest.

*rolls eyes*

Just wondering if you had heard anything, or if you could provide insight on why Arsene kept Joel Campbell if he did not have plans to use him, while there were numerous clubs interested in him post World Cup?

It just doesn't make sense, Wenger loves to complain about Chelsea's and Citeh's financial doping, but we throw money away on our wage bill like it's going out of style!

Anyways, I value your opinion on things so I was just curious.

Thanks again,
Trinidad-Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

I feel sorry for JC, but to be honest with Walcott and Gnarby back we already have plenty of options. I can see a team like Sporting Lisbon being an ideal location for him to ply his trade and am perhaps 'falsely' hoping that we will use him as part of a deal to sign Carvhello in January. It would be extremely disappointing if he went to Newcastle in exchange for Tiote instead though, a bit like trading the Jag for a Fiat.

This is not ment as yet another go at Arsene but just an honest observation and question.
In May 3 managers looked 100% bullet proof
Pellegrini
Rogers
Arsene
Today the 3 safest look like
Mourinho
Koeman
Arsene
Has life become too safe for Arsene?
Would a bit of pressure from his bosses be a good thing and bring out the best in him again.
If our jobs were as safe as Arsene's we would probably become arrogant too its an easy trap to fall into I guess.
But should there be more expectation from the board of Arsene?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wouldnt want pelle or rodgers. i'd take wenger over them.

Who do you think would be winning the League if at the beginning Arsene was manager of City and Pellegrini was manager at Arsenal?

Just asking but for me City would be kicking ass right now! :-)

g62,

To answer you're question Wenger is safe for a reason, asked if he would stay through what was going to be a difficult period of the stadium move.

Asked to try and achieve what City and Chelsea are achieving but with a budget, not the £100's of millions, proper £100's of millions to build squads without a care in the world, buy a £50 million player on a whim, but a pathetic budget.

Asked to suffer the continued anihalation of a great reputation whilst building squad after squad because the best players showed no stomach for it and left.

Now coming out the other side he has to breach FFP to keep people happy and build a squad in an instant.

We went through a period of being littered with what was called deadwood, a gamble of buying players at the cheap end of the market which is more prone to failure.

Now we have a build up of players again that need to be replaced, Arteta, Flamini, Podolski, Rosicky, Diaby and Mertesacker, whilst still paying big money for the DM and CB as a minimum we all know we need.

Would another manager win the title with this team whilst trying to complete it, only now having the money to do so.

It's like saying Vettel, you're the world champion, I don't care if Rosberg and Hamilton have got the best cars, you get your arse out there and win the title.

We can beat him with what ever we want, like saying about Walcott going to the England squad, we want him back in the team, Arsene wants him back in the team and said he needs hard training and that's what he'll get with England.

I know faith has gone for a lot but it's so easy to say get him out get someone else in, he's lost it and so on and so on.

But hey what do I know :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Swap for Rogers? no way Gonzalez
Pelleegrini? Yeah I'd do that, I don't think Arsene and his out dated methods would last a season at city or chavs.
Asking the man with the 3rd best car to win the race is unrealistic Red I agree but I wouldn't expect him to take every corner as wide as he could or refuse to go in the pits dispite the tyres falling to bits and the fuel gage showing empty either.
The restrictions are a fair point of the past but do not explain refusal to take into account who we're playing and be prepared to change tactics to bridge the gap between us and those who have spent mega millions to create a side that is superior to our 11 players, to me that's madness .
If your unwilling to adapt then you'd better be right and Arsene ain't got it right for a very long time Red

Agree0 Disagree0

Can I remind you that we have won the Community Shield, are 4th in the Premier League & virtually through to the knockout stage of the Champions League. All this in a season when we have had to integrate 5 new players & cope with an unusually high amount of injuries, even for us!
I also tend to moan, but when taking it into perspective we are not doing that badle. Once we have our injured players back & if we make two signings (a central defender & a defensive midfield player), we can push on in the second half of the season. let's gets behind the team & Wenger. After all it could be far worse, look at Tottenham!

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair Robbie I missed the civic reception for the community shield, was it good :-)
We are 4th but more by luck than judgement and we're 8 pts worse off than last season at this stage.
We all want the same thing the team playing well and challenging ( not necessarily winning but seriously challenging for ) footballs big prizes again.
At the moment that looks further away than ever, this time last year I thought "we are back in the hunt" but sadly I was wrong

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunner62, I don't appreciate the sarcasm.
Bear in mind we have been without Giroud, Walcott & Debuchy for most of the season. In addition, we have had long term injuries to Ozil & Koscielny. That's without taking into account the usual crop of injuries we have suffered.
Walcott is back & Giroud should resume training shortly. The first eleven is extremely strong once the injured players return & a couple of signings will strenghthen the squad further.
The returning players should be fresh as they have hardly played, so as other teams enter the second half of the season fatigued, we can bring in 2 fresh top class defenders in Debuchy & Koscielny. Ozil in midfield, Giroud & Walcott in attack will also be well rested. We have to ensure qualification for the CL & stay in touch with the top of the PL, until the new year, when we should crack on.
The main criticism of Wenger has to be the lack of defenders & quality defensive midfield players, both of which hopefullu he can rectify in the January window.

I really like Pellegrini, I think tactically he isn't the best but I respect him as handles himself well and respect his fellow managers, somthing that cannot be said for Mourinhio.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair play Robbie I apologize if my light hearted sarcasm upset you.
But you do have to admit no one from city looked devastated at the loss of the community shield, for some it may be a real trophy but city didn't look like it ment anything to them afterwards

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Nov 2014 15:51:18
Because they lost g62, had they won they would have celebrated as we did irrespective of what the name of the trophy is.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok Red you believe that if it makes you feel good

Agree0 Disagree0

Gunner62, I reckon he will 'believe that if it makes him feel good' since Manchester City DID celebrate when they won the community shield in 2012. I understand that if we start seeing the trophy as a genuine hallmark of serious quality, we may have underwhelming goals but I don't believe that is the case and I certainly don't think we should look sad or want our players to look indifferent after a victory against the title holders. Infact, I don't fully understand your point; if this season had gone amazingly well and we were top of the table as well as the CL group, would you still feel so bitter about us winning and celebrating the community shield?

Agree0 Disagree0

Pelle is terrible. City wil get rid.

Agree0 Disagree0

The community shield is a pre season friendly and man city weren't up for it. Regardless it ain't worth a jot really. G62 i'm with you all the way. Last season we got motoring after villa and only really capitulated in april. This season we haven't got going and at the moment don't look like doing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Perfect I didn't say anyone should be sad about the community shield but I'm not going to pretend its a wonderful trophy that is cherished by any team as their greatest moment, its a preseason trophy one step up from the Emirates cup and that would be true if we swapped places with chavs in this seasons PL race or last seasons community shield runners up Wigan in the championship.
It is what it is

Agree0 Disagree0

I get your point and I would be livid if they genuinely think the community shield is of equal importance as some of the other trophies out there. However, I just don't think that us celebrating the victory is the root of our poor performances this season.

Just watched a documentary called Football: The beautiful game.

It was presented by Peter Beardsley and Ian Dowie.

Oh, how I laughed.

Lol Chris,

Keown was a handsome devil by comparison.

Agree0 Disagree0

There was no more beautiful sight than Martin Keown towering over Ruud Van nistleroy.
There should be a portrait of that moment put in the national gallery!

Agree0 Disagree0

All center backs should look like keown and bruce, the pretty boys are the strikers.

Agree0 Disagree0

With the exception of Costa. He's a central defender, if I ever saw one.

yes Rocky and all those players got away with that, that day. The bans handed out were silly and wrong, 6 months would of been right.

Steve I agree mate lol Bruce is a very handsome devil.

I do hold a soft spot for Hoddle clinging to his mullet like he has. Mind you Phil Nev still has frosted highlights like a 90's boy bang member.

Come on everybody, its like a bloody morgue on here.

G62 and Banbury, you two are normally 2 of the brightest lights on here, but you have both thrown in the towel.

OK, let's start from the beginning.

At start of season, we were crying out for defensive cover and a solid DM.
It didn't happen, bar Chambers and we have lost Debuchy.

Nobody knows why, only Wenger.

League wise, whilst playing mediocre at best, we are still 4th and a reachable 9 points behind Chelsea.

We have lost Debuchy, Ozil and Giroud early doors, as well as having to blood 5 new players in.

Walcott is back, which is a massive boost and the above mentioned players are also back very soon.

Once we get into our stride and hit a decent bit of form, we will be beating teams with ease, scoring goals and picking up points.

We need to stay on Chelsea's tail until January, and I'm positive we will, i'm also confident Wenger will defensively strengthen in January Window.

In terms of CL, whilst totally disappointed with the capitulation against Anderlecht, I'm extremely positive we will still qualify.

OK, we should have took the 3 points against Anderlecht, thus assuring qualification and resting players for Dortmund and Galatasaray games, we will still complete the job.

Looking on the plus side, I have a feeling that 3-3 draw is going to be the biggest kick up the backside possible.

I think it will make us stronger and its going to be a catalyst in the way we play from now on.

It will make the team sit up and take notice, and more importantly, Wenger might learn from it, thus making us a better team.

I'm Arsenal through and through, and I know you both are too, as is every poster on here.
Christ, I've seen a lot worse than this.
We have been in a lot worse positions than this.

Things are not as bad as it seems.

Like I said, once injured players are back, we will be a hard team to beat and will kick on.

Chelsea apart, no team scares me, including City, and I see no reason why we won't be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

Two things need to happen.

Wenger must strengthen defensively.
And the supporters need to believe in the team and keep the faith, and that includes you two.
