6 goals and an assist in 7 games.

The Number 14 Arsenal shirt is a massive shirt to fill, but Auba is doing a great job.

He is a quality player I think we and everyone else knew that before he arrived mate, obviously others had their reasons for not going for him financial or other but for us he's an excellent addition.
The thing I can't help but wonder is if he keeps scoring at this rate how long will it be before others come knocking and unless we improve dramatically as a team will he want to be here long?

Scoring is his job.

And he looks very good at doing his job. Can get in behind and is a fix in the box. His attitude seems very uplifting and the team appear to enjoy playing with him. His link up play is excellent and he isn’t ball gready. The problems in our team are plain and should be easy to sort out. New gk and back 4. Max Meyer and fekir would good . I’m sure they will be getting some top defenders . I do feel the job has started to progress and we will see some improvements in the summer I’m sure of it!

Despite all the doom and gloom when it comes to our forward line, you have to be very happy that we have both Auba and Lacca;that's top draw. Would love to see if they can play together.

Going forwards with Pea Lacasette Mesut Ramsey Miki it's all good in fact it's very good potentially.
But what's behind them really is extremely poor and not up to top 4 chasing never mind anything else.

Lacasette Pea with Mesut behind them sounds good but what do you do with Ramsey and Miki? Try and fit them in somewhere? That's where it all has always and continues to go wrong in my opinion, we don't pick a team we pick names in order to get all our best players on the field together.
In the words of the the full monty
" our mix is all to cock"

I like the fact that we could go into the transfer window with only focus on the defence (DM, CB and GK) . Any upgrad of the attack would be bonus! Laca, Aub, Özil og Miki all on new contracts is amazing (allthoug I must admit that Welbeck, Iwobe and unfinished Nelson are not my fav. backup, but it might work) .

Lets hope they also they could hire some new defence coach.

G62, i don't think they can all play together sadly. I have always seen Ramsey, Wilshire and now Miki competing for the same role in the team, as playing too many of these type of players together just a) leave us exposed at the back and B) Reduces the width of our play. All 3 prefer to play through the middle of the pitch where we already have Ozil. So hence i am happy for Wilshire to go, and perhaps look for a plan b type player who is happier playing wide left or right, with good competition between Ramsey and Miki for the box to box midfield role.

Wenger clearly judged today's team selection well. With a 6th win in the trot and having rested some players, we have a good chance of progressing into the Semi-final of the EL and hopefully negotiate a tricky match against a resurgent Newcastle.

I think he just about got away with it after pushing his luck a little. If it wasn’t for welbeck scoring I would have ranted and raved at auba coming off . But like you say RG the proof is in the pudding.

Decent win, but our defence is shocking.

Out of top 7 team's in Prem, we goals against column in a mare.

Even Burnley, in 7th, have conceded 15 less.

It is a massive embarrassment and handicap that is holding us back.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Apr 2018 19:11:09
Saints had more shots and more shots on target than us today, this trend has been nothing unusual for us at the emirates for a long time now, Watford Swansea Stoke Brighton you name it they all get lots of chances to score against us at the emirates now days which is awful, we just don't seem to ever be in control instead relying on our oppenents strikers to be less accurate than ours.
If you look at the teams above us the shots for and against on home soil they tend to be heavily dominant at home much more often than not where we tend to try and out score teams in an after you multi coloured shot swap :-)

It’s not just the goals conceded which is the true measure but the fact that we invite danger onto Cech all the time by a lack of any awareness and disciine. If Moscow has their shooting boots on then the score could have been completely different. A simple ball over the top and the opposition are clean thru with our defenders looking amateurish at best - sliding in or just not being their.

We have enough fire power to compete for the league but the type of defence associated the bottom half of the table.

That means at 1 or 2 up - we still look nervous.

Shocking - a new plan and a new spine is needed. Mustafi and Kos are a liability waiting to be crystallised. While the two CMs don’t help them nor do our wing backs who bomb forward. we still need to take a big decision and put two leaders in the middle of the back 4 and one in CDM

That will change the mentality over night

Clean sheet can’t get beat - start there and build upon

We don’t need a beast - a Gilberto will be perfect.

I totally agree SY our goals against record paints our defence better than it is mate, I know that's hard to think but it's true.
Shots against both on and off target over a season paints a more accurate picture of just how shocking we are.
If you are conceeding only one or two decent chances per game and the opposition keeps taking them both that's just unfortunate and near impossible to do anything about,
But if you are conceeding 7 to 10 really good chances every game then you have a huge problem with the defensive part of your team and it's always going to keep you out of the mix with teams that a better overall ballance.

Elneny you muppet, just put him in my fantasy team and he goes and gets himself sent off, what an Elniny. Otherwise he had a good game. I know everyone wants Chambers to go but on today's performance he is no worse than Mustafi. Not saying much I know!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Apr 2018 18:30:32
We desperately need a pair of CB's and a pair of DM's.
Chambers and Mustafi are pants. Mertersacker is/ has retired. Koscielny is fading due to age and his chronic achilles problem. Holding needs a season on loan at Burnley, where Dyche would coach him in the art of defending.
Elneny, I feel sorry for him. Against Stoke and Southampton he ran his legs off. Only useless Marriner would send him off in such circumstances.

I don’t feel sorry for him - stupidity got him a red and Jack was lucky also. Opposition had just been sent off for pushing - bloody wise up. Fine him 2 weeks wages and train with the reserves. No Prima Donnas just warriors

Leaders should stamp this crap out so we don’t risk playing with 10 men.

Hi ed01. Was watching the game today and got on to thinking about Southampton . Looking at the landscape of English players and players like mane and van dyke, the ox Walcott, bale and many more (bake welsh soz) but you get the jist! Which teams in the prem do you think have the best youth system and scouting network and which clubs have the most benefit to homegrown players. Spurs and saints scream out to me but what do you think. Looking forward to your reply .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - tough one. In terms of youth system Man Utd have probably put themselves back in the mix, Chelsea's is excellent, while Spurs and Saints are probably a step down from those two now. After that you would be looking at Liverpool and Everton, with Arsenal behind that.

If you were a parent wanting to know which academy I would recommend your child to go into though, I would say Southampton. That is where they have the most chance of getting a game in the Prem or, and this might be a surprise, Burnley. Burnley are investing heavily in their academy and a kid entering it now will be in good shape when they graduate.}

08 Apr 2018 18:26:14
Southampton have turned out some talent in the last decade. What ever they feed them is good gear.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they just coach them well and keep their feet on the ground so they don't coast through life not making improvements.}

Ed002, there's been a lot of empty seats at the Emirates lately (whether through protest or just we have little to play for, i don't know) . Do you know if this is having any effect and actually causing any concern within the club? Or is the boards view that they don't really care if the seats are filled as long as money's being paid for them? - Would be interesting to know the feeling from inside the club. Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - i would have to ask as I don’t know but I rather doubt it is a major concern. Some of the seats will be corporate seats not taken up, this is fairly common. Some will be supporters staying away for one irrational reason or other - and that is up to them,; if they don’t wish to go and watch the team they support then fine. I don’t know if season tickets can be loaned to others at Arsenal, but perhaps if they aren’t using them they could pass them to someone more fortunate (who doesn’t have a ticket).}

08 Apr 2018 16:39:35
Great win. Wow poor defending again i'm sure the board are really getting the message, red seats don't spend much money and they are sending a message. Time for change. Respect.

Well done, another 3 points and 6 wins on the trot. Interesting to see that Mark Hughes has turned Southamton into his usual rugby team. Marriner is an utterly useless ref and should be demoted, along with the equally woeful Atkinson, the pair are an absolute embarrassment.
More shame on Arsenal fans that paid for tickets and failed to turn up. Bet they still renew their season tickets!
Looking forward to Thursday when we can hopefully qualify for the semi-finals of the EL.

Hard to see us meeting any beach boys in this season's run in as all the teams we face have something left to play for.
At home we have Southampton and West ham and of course the head to head with arch rivals Burnley.

Then it's tricky tricky tricky all the way on the road Newcastle Utd Huddersfield none of who can afford to put their suntan lotion on just yet.

Arsenal 2 Southampton 1 today.
