Well lads liverpool fans here just thought I'd pop in and wish you luck for the season.

Exciting times for you with the new manager and new players.

You too Jimmy, most pressure on Liverpool this season than I can remember for years mate.
Jurgen has done a brilliant job in such a short space of time but you are this season's big spenders and that coupled with your champions league 2nd place last season expectations of Liverpool are very very high.
Almost everyone has Liverpool and City as runaway favourites so anything less than 2nd spot will have the critics rubbing their hands with glee and the pundits ripping liverpool apart looking for scapegoats as to why it didn't happen.
I really hope you come up to scratch and win this season's title mate, it's pretty unimaginable that we will so of the big boys if it's not to be us I really hope it's your boys.

There must be pressure on a Klopp this season to win something? Another big window.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 03:09:56
Pressure mounting on both Klopp and Pochettino to actually win a trophy. For all their promise neither manager has won a single trophy at their current teams, in Pochettino's case he has not won a single trophy in his decade as a manger, making him the perfect manager for trophyless Toot.

Would the league cup and 4th place in the prwmier league show Jurgen in a better light than a premier league runners up and champions league last 4?
I'm not sure fa and league cup wins out weight premier league and champions league achievements.

The domestic cups are still nice but in terms of importance in the modern game it's all about the big two competitions and how much you achieve or how close you get to achieving in them that matters.
For the big clubs a mid table finish is a disaster even if you win both League and Fa cup that season.

Ed's are we honestly entering the season within these centre backs? The lad from Freiburg Coyuncu looks to be going Leicester for £20m really? We have 3 fit center backs not one has a turn of pace. City are going to run riot.

Yeah The lack of real pace at the back at back concerns me also, that is why I though it was strange move letting Chambers go on loan yes not the best defender around but s he has decent recovery pace that could fit alongside the other two in a back 3, kind of like a sweeper.

Either Emery has a lot of faith in youngsters Holding and Mavapranos as backup or there is another incoming in the pipeline that the press have not picked up on maybe one on loan. Without Kos I still think we will be vulnerable at the back. Coyuncu was heavily linked with us, but I guess we spent out too early.

How much stick would Wenger get for the state of affairs at the back?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 21:17:34
Holding is to small to slow without any presence, I like Mavapranos but he can’t b a starter Mustafi is woeful and doesn’t want to b there what he did against Aguero last year was laughable. We’ll do well to finish 6th.

Emery can't fix this is one window will take time so much deadwood to move.

On a side name I need to change my avatar : (.

Oh sy mate, I appreciate your undying loyalty, but if you admit it's a sorry state of affairs at the back, why is it? He was left a complete mess.

Let's give Emery the opportunity to coach the back four and see how the two new defenders settle in. Albeit in pre-season matches, we conceded few goals.
Having worked with Chambers, Emery shipped him out, which didn't surprise me as in my opinion he is a very average defender.
We have signed Mavrapanos who looks full of promise, Holding has all the attributes to be a decent defender and will hopefully improve rapidly under the new manager and coaches.
Sokratis is a solid defender and hopfully Mustafi will regain the form that won him a World Cup winners medal.
The central defenders will now gain much needed protection from the system Emery will use and have Torreira to protect them and Leno a footballing goalkeeper who can sweep in behind them.
I was intrigued by the dual systems that Emery used in pre-season matches, where we defended in a 4-4-2, whilst attcking from a 4-2-3-1. I have always liked the defensive side of a 4-4-2. Where the two banks of 4 offere excellent protection, but has never thought of the switch to a more offensive formation when attacking. It will be interesting to see how things evolve during the season, although us fans must be patient as it will take time for the squad to get used to Emery's methods.

How can’t we afford centre backs? Liverpool have spent more on a keeper than we hav all window? How’s that work then?

I don't get it either Monkey, there only being £50 mil seems odd to me, we have massive sponsorship and kit deals, huge TV income like everyone else and the highest ticket prices in the world what are you doing they doing with it all?

We can only hope this season is all about Dick finding out who he needs to keep and who he doesn't and next summer we will go for it with Dick having had time to work things out for himself rather than simply guess.

SY the reason Arsene got so much stick is because he kept failing to make an impact on the title race for a decade, Dicks not failed once yet so no stick required just yet mate.

I think he wants to ask the st louis rams fans what they think about him. Apparently he lied through his teeth to them. i'm not sure that they would speak too highly of him, so i'm not sure why arsenal fans should be labelled by some radio hack.

Dear Ed02,

The language we speak in England, is rich and varied with an eclectic mix of accents and tones which are steeped in history and tradition. We have a knack of coining phrases which aptly and deftly describe in great detail, complexity and dexterity, exactly what we are aspiring to achieve with the fluent music of language. Our great nation has exposed to the English-speaking world such marvelous manipulators of the spoken and written word. I propose to you: Shakespeare, William Blake, John Milton, Jonathan Swift, Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling, Oscar Wilde, C. S. Lewis, George Orwell, H. G. Wells, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, J. R. R. Tolkien - and the list could go on and on. Men who were masters of their own craft, and on whose genius did we inherit in the ways of the spoken word and form our dialect for it to evolve into an immense, all encompassing language of divine measure that today is simply and humbly known as 'The English Language'.

And so, for the last time, it's not fecking soccer, it's football.

😀 I'm adding this smile emoji in the hopes that you'll take this in the spirit in which it was intended.

{Ed001's Note - there is just one problem. Soccer is an English word dating back to the days when there was confusion over which code was being referred to when the word 'football' was used. Hence the origins of 'rugger' to refer to rugby football and 'soccer' to refer to association football. It was soccer to the English long before football came to refer purely to association football.....}

08 Aug 2018 15:35:24
It’s a weird one that ed because I never use the word soccer, it’s always play footie or watch the footie.

I don’t really know anyone that refers to football as soccer, Americans aside.

I should add I have no problem with Americans or their use of the word soccer and love listening to the commentary on MLS games. I’d really like to go to a game when I’m over there next.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Europeans always use the word soccer. It went out of use in England in the 60s I believe but it is an English word. For me it is footie as well.}

08 Aug 2018 16:00:03
I never knew the Europeans used the word soccer as well, I have always understood the need for Americans to disnigish between American football and the real thing though :-)
It's football! Always should have been football too, if rugby is such a problem simply ban rugby completely and re-educate those who feel the need to pick the ball up with thier hands and run with it, I'm sure they've all mastered the use of knives and forks so I'm sure they could master real proper FOOTBALL too, if not there is always basketball or netball they could play.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0333's Note - I must admit mate I have to call it soccer as I live in the states and it’s the only way to distinguish it from American football over here.

08 Aug 2018 18:01:28
To be fair it needs to be changed to American rugbyball.

Didn't know that either Ed01. Googled it too because I thought you were fibbing.

First time I ever heard the word soccer was when it was uttered by this extremely nice American woman I worked with. I must have been 16-17.

I was taking to her and she, out of nowhere, says, "Oh you mean soccer! "

I mean WHAT now? I Altavista'd that word back then.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 17:17:50
Yes Ed0333 mate, it does make sense in the states to call it soccer, I don't suppose it really mate really matters what we call it because the football world cup isn't called the greatest show on earth for no reason.
The Olympics is no where near it, every country that holds the Olympics loses money while the world cup hosts always make a good profit from holding it.
Football soccer call it what you want it's simply the best sport in the world.

{Ed0333's Note - I honestly think ice hockey, snooker, tennis and cricket are up there also mate. But hey that’s just my humble opinion.

09 Aug 2018 05:13:13
Ice hockeys awesome! got to love a good high speed smash in to the wall and a wobbly punch up on ice! 😂 Mighty ducks was my favourite film growing up must of watched it daily! Parents took me to watch two of the Great hockey teams play: Slough vs Hull! 😂 They had really low walls! Nearly got hit in the face with the Puck! but got to keep it, well good day!

Ed’s I know 1 if not a few of you guys seemed to expect 1 more signing in the last few weeks of this window. I’m guessing it that’s gone out the window? 😞

Really disappointed tbh, I know we have fixed our gapping issues from previous seasons but I really thought a premium winger would have been the icing on the cake. Think that would have made us competable in every game especially against the top 4 which as we know has been our Achilles heel for about a decade at this stage 😂.
